I recieved My D2 Quadra, backed up about 500GB of data only to have the drive fail in less than two days. Being that the data was sensitive business related files and uncopyrighted images of my own creation, I was not inclined to send the drive anywhere I could not be certain my information would not be mishandled. I won't be purchasing anymore electronics from LaCie or Amazon. I am a repair tech for certain types of electronic circuitry, and I chose to open the enlosure. What I found was the interface circuit board within the drive was apparently refurbished or damaged- Sold as New! Lacie of course refused to replace only the printed circuit board. So I am potentially out 153.00If one thinks of all the items that get returned to Amazon and places like Lacie, one realizes a lot of this stuff is merely repacked and sold as new to someone else.

Everything is good. I am using it through a USB and these are my only complaints. I usually don't shutdown my computer, but rather have it sleep/standby, and the disks don't turn off, but keep spinning. I don't mind, other than wondering if that will lessen its life. The auto backup is good, it just takes a lot of time and resources to do. I'd rather just drag and drop the files I really want to save. Occasionally the disks inside start to vibrate and make noise, so I've just had to hold it for a second and it goes back to silent. Other than that, this has been great! I like how it is going to last me a long time and is very upgradable with all the different connection options in back. Great so far!

I was impressed that this was already formated for an Apple device so I didn't have to do anything but plug it in and begin using it with Time Machine. Nothing could be easier.

The LaCie d2 Quadra (1) Tera-Byte External drive is worth the extra money. You get a multiple of cables for any type interface including eSATA which all computers will have in the near future. The setup was easy even with my old 4 year old computer. The case was nicely finished and has 2 options to display the unit, either horizontal or vertical depending on your application. The aluminum case keeps the unit cool and will add to the life of the drive. If you are looking for disk space to store your family videos this is the drive to get.

If you like noisy hard drives then you will love this drive. I am seriously thinking about asking the person who got me the hd drive to return it. I can't believe the intermittent noises this drive makes. It runs fine but the other 1tb hard drive i have from seagate runs smooth with out noise. Why because the drive looks cool i have to listen to these clicks and crap all night long, I think not! This is a bad drive and is way to loud to be practical.

I bought this drive from Amazon on January 17th. Today's date is March 28th and it no longer works. Lost lots of important files.I know it says "Pro" in the description but not at this lifespan.

This hard drive died a month after use and i lost my entire animation final. Also it has to be plugged into a powersource, which is a big inconvenienc.

I bought this drive to replace a Maxtor 2-disk RAID drive that recently stopped working after one of the disks failed. The RAID did it's job though - I was able to recover all the data from the good disk after I had to take apart the enclosure to remove it. This new drive has quite a few advantages over my old Maxtor. In addition to more disk space, it has a fast eSATA interface, a cool "mixed" RAID mode that gives you one "safe" partition and one "big" partition if you don't want to use the whole drive in "safe" (mirrored) mode, and removable drives so I don't have to take the whole thing apart (and replace the unit) if one of the drives fails. The "auto" power on/off mode is also very nice if you use the USB connection. The enclosure itself looks very nice and is built very solid (in a good way). Both the fan and the drives themselves (Hitachi in mine) are definitely on the noisy side at times, but I'm hoping the extra airflow will help the drives last longer than the Maxtor. The printed "manual" is also extremely short and unhelpful, but I didn't have any problems setting up the drive on my PC (I am a computer professional).

For my imac: bought this to replace my LaCie that died. I use this hard drive for back up and when it runs, it is loud. We have this in our tv room, and we can hear it run while watching a movie. It has been reliable the last 6 months, but I believe it will be replaced soon.

My drive is remarkably quiet - very little fan noise, mostly a low hum. The included instructions for set-up and changing RAID settings are a bit obscure, but since the outside of the box describes the attributes of each RAID setting, it was pretty straightforward to figure out which setting was which. I changed the drive to RAID 1 (defined as Safe), reformatted using Disk Utility and had it starting a Time Machine backup in about 15 min. Overall I am very satisfied to-date.

This was a terrible purchase. Box was mislabeled by LaCie and the disk formatting program totally screwed my Mac G5. I will never purchase a LaCie product again, not even a thumb-drive if offered for free. The only good thing about this purchase was how polite and professional the folks were at Amazon who facilitated the return and refund. Amazon AAA+++

I've had this drive for about a month now, and so far it's performed perfectly. I have a Macbook, and I use this drive with Time Machine. When I bought it, it was definitely more expensive than other 1TB drives, but I wanted to spend the extra 30 bucks or so for 3 reasons:(1) It has all the different connection options (USB2, Firewire 400 & 800, eSATA).(2) I'm a sucker for the metal casing, which I find much more attractive than pretty much all the other options out there. Also worth noting is that the drive's feel matches its look -- it is heavy and very solid.(3) This hard drive's very similar predecessor, the LaCie 301827U d2 Quadra 1 TB eSATA/FireWire800/FireWire400/USB 2.0 External Hard Disk, had one of the best average star ratings of any hard drive (please note that when I bought this particular drive, there were only a few reviews up on this product page, so I trusted the 100+ positive reviews of the previous model).Since my purchase it looks like some 1-star reviews have been written about this drive (at the time f this writing, there are 4, 3 of which state that their drive has failed). The one-star reviews of this product make me nervous that my drive will crap out after a year -- but honestly, look at the reviews for ANY hard drive on the market, and you'll find those same 1-star reviews. I'll update this review if I do experience any problems in the future. For now, I couldn't be happier!

I own Seagate FreeAgent, WD Mybook (2x) and Lacie Quadra. all 1TB except for Freeagent 1.5TB. Out of all three brands I'm useing I would not recommand Lacie Quadra for couple reason:1) Slow as hell compare to Freeagent. I'm running on my Macbook Pro with Firewire800 and it takes so long to "get info". I thought Firewire 800 supposed to be twice the speed....2) It's very noisy. all the other ones, I do not even notice being on, but Quadra's vibration from the fan(?), HD itself, or something is quite loud.3) It's the only one that stays turned ON when my MBP is shut down. this no big deal, except that if it's in your bedroom, that blue light could be too bright. I usually switch off from the back; bit of hassle.4) Only external HD I've used so far that had corrupted files. I think I might have to send in for repair. :-/I've written all CONS however, There is one PROS and that is the looks, I think it the most sleekest and nicest casing out of all three ext. HD I have ;).FYI:I use 15.4 MACBook Pro laptop. I bought this drive in July 2008 and it worked flawlessly for 8 months until I confused my wife's laptop power supply with the drive's power supply, thereby showing the drive 19V instead of the correct 12V. Not good. The big blue light forever after slowly blinked on/off repeatedly and the drive wouldn't spin up. It was dead.The bright side to this is that when I e-mailed Lacie Tech Support - being very upfront about my boneheaded mistake and just wondering if the drive might be fixable - they still covered the unit under it's 3-year warranty! WOW!They initially sent me a new power supply free of charge, thinking it might possibly be that (I was sure it wasn't), then after that didn't do it, they gave me authorization to return it to be repaired free of charge. I paid to ship it to them, they replaced the internal drive (a 500GB Seagate Barracuda, I might add) and shipped it back to me within a couple days. So, for only the $12 I paid for shipping, I got a virtually new drive in under a week...which they didn't have to do, since it was obviously negligence on my part that fried the drive.So, I have to strongly recommend this Lacie drive both because it's a reliable and well-made product and it's backed up by above-and-beyond customer service!
