I just recently purchased this hard drive through another company, upon unboxing I notice it has multiple plug ends depending on what county your in this is a plus. It's 6"L 4"W 3/4"D and is housed by an aluminum casing, which is great for heat dispersion, the ports in the back for plugging this thing in seem kind of cheaply made, one false move will snap them off, another thing that's annoying is the power on button is on the back, which means you have to place is where your gonnna have access to it at all times, other then that it's a great little harddrive, until ssd hard drives go down in price, this is a must with plenty of space....

I am a light Time Machine user and bought this because I thought having a RAID attached would at least protect my backup data. No Luck. My 2Big Quadra threw the towel after less than 6 months of use (and very intermittent use at that). It started when i noticed that sometimes, the Drive seemed to somewhat start spinning non-stop (i could tell by the loud fan noise from the other room). Not quite sure why, as this was mostly only hosting my itunes and iphoto libraries. This went on for about a month, until last week when it suddenly refused to mount. Now All I have is a bunch of red flashing light. i am not sure if the Disk themselves failed or whether the problem is in the enclosure. I am taking the disks to work tomorrow to check it out; but it's the last thing i expected from this purchase :/

After I did a great deal of searching for a hard drive that could be used between a Mac and a PC, I decided this was the one even though it had gotton not so great reviews. People warned me about the edges being sharp which they are, and the fact that the USB cord was too short which it was. How any company can supply a 7.75 inch cord is beyond me.I will be writing the company about it because using the supplied cord would mean that the hard drive would be hanging from the computer. It is way too short to reach the table the computer is on.The hard drive did allow me to copy files in the exchange portion only to go from a Mac to a PC which has maximum space of 32 GB. This is true with all of them. I have asked many people including IT guys and they say that's the way it is. I was using it for video files and used that space up pretty quickly. There must be a better product out there somewhere. I am somewhat disappointed with the product.

I gotta say I've had my Lacie hard drive for over 2 years now and absolutely LOVED IT! Until the other day when I accidentally bumped into my desk and the unstable stand fell over, and now it makes a loud beep and it's a goner. My recommendation would be to LAY THIS DRIVE DOWN! If somehow it topples over, it's gone and there's nothing you can do about it. I'm investing in a Rugged XL next. LOVE Lacie drives, but they need to be a little more durable than that!

First let me say that the USB boost driver on windows AND mac does help as claimed.And the drive *IS* very cool to the touch.Second, I haven't owned this drive long enough to really give it a fair review either good or bad, SO i will just updated this more as time goes on.For now let me just say I would give this 4 or even 5 stars however ...****My only gripe with it is Ubuntu support seems very unstable and unreliable.****UPDATE:I also wouldn't put 100% trust the hybernate and log functions completely JUST yet.

I'm a professional photographer who works with a lot of heavy files and demanding tasks on my drives and I'm really pleased with the performance of this d2 drive. I have two of them, the first is used as an external storage drive for my Mac, the second as a backup drive. I've been really happy with everything: speed, quality, quiet operation, and overall reliability. No issues at all.

I don't normally take the time to write reviews. I kind of feel guilty about that. Anyway, my new LaCie d2 Quadra hard drive works exactly as advertised. Its fast and reliable. Actually this is my 4th purchase of a LaCie drive over the past 8 years. I keep on buying them because they work. All four are quietly spinning right now.Technical support is excellent. I once had a problem with an older drive and when I called support the rep took the time to listen and accurately analyze my issue. I was quite glad that all I needed was a $20 power supply which arrived in two days.When it comes to storage, there are a lot of options. My positive experience with LaCie makes the choice for me an easy one.

Quiet drive, though you can hear the click when it starts and an occasional slight rumbling sound while Time Machine is running. Fast (Firewire 800). Previously bought a d2 1TB LaCie one year ago which has not failed yet. Thus, despite the 1 star reviews of power supply and disc failures, i bought the 2TB Quadra, which is doing fine for 2 months and storing photos, videos, and is the scratch disc for FinalCutPro. Have noticed that no one has mentioned that units have not booted upon initial setup. Mine would not boot. After an hour of suppressing rage and the urge to immediately return the drive to Amazon, i emailed LaCie customer support and within 12 hours received instructions on reformating the disc using Disc Utility (iMac, 10.6.6). It was easy but took 5 hours to complete. I still give it a 5 star cuz it is working fine since.

I've only had the La Cie d2 Quadra 1 TB drive for two days, so these are just initial impressions. I'll update the review after I've had it for a while.The drive looks great sitting on my desk, behind the monitor. With the included base, it is slightly tippy, so I put it in a place where it's unlikely to get bumped. I followed the instructions in the "Quick Install Guide", connecting the power supply and included eSATA cable to my Windows 7 Pro 64 bit computer. The drive appeared in 'Computer' immediately, and I launched the Setup Assistant, which quickly formatted the drive with absolutely no drama. To my less-than-perfect ears, the Quadra is very quiet. I have to put my ear right on the drive to hear anything, even when the computer is writing to it.Next, I disconnected the Quadra from the Windows 7 box and used the included USB cable to connect it to a box running XP Pro SP2. It took several minutes for the Quadra to appear in My Computer, but there were no issues at all.I transferred a folder with 44.6 GB of MP3 files from the hard drive on my old computer (Windows XP Pro SP2) to the Quadra via USB. Time required: 8 hr 15 min. I then transferred the same folder from the Quadra to my new computer (Windows 7 Pro 64 bit) via eSATA. Time: 12 min. Holy mackerel!I made another transfer with a folder of 40.3 GB and had similar results.I'm only going to use the Quadra in 'drag-and-drop' mode, so I'm not using the LaCie backup software and can't comment on that.Why not 5 stars? Because the Quadra has to live a long, trouble-free life before it gets the fifth star.UPDATE: I've now had the LaCie Quadra for 6 months with absolutely no problems. I continue to be amazed at the ESATA performance.UPTATE 2: It's been over a year and still no problems.

It is a great desktop model and it's small size and durable case make it easy to pack up and carry from site to site. There are much better portable hard drives on the market and since it requires a power source, is not feasable for someone on the go. If you're planning to plug it into your laptop while you're waiting at the airport or sitting at a coffee shop, this is not the model you want.I upload raw video footage to the LaCie d2 Quadra Hard Disk 1 TB and am able to edit with Final Cut with ease. It has great speed and works great with a Mac. You can access files quickly and easily with the same speed that you could expect if the file was on your computer's hard drive.The drive comes with a 3 year warranty and I've noticed that's about the life span of it; however, I tend to have the drive running constantly with my laptop which surely adds to wear and tear on it. As a precaution, I keep two drives and have a backup ready when either drive starts acting funny.

Drive works normally only until PC restart or entering a sleep mode!When this happens, It fails to reconnect to windows 7 after wake-up.Tried at different laptops (Lenovo, Sony) with different USB 2.0/3.0 under Win 7 Ultimate - the issue persists.To fix this I need to replug USB cable at PC port, then it identifies and starts working again.I mean, you cannot work with this HDD (Hitachi inside) if you plan to reboot your PC at anytime.So.. no any trust to the device as RAID 1 storage for any sensitive data if it fails on such primitive operations.Do not buy it at least I write a positive resolution feedback from Lacie support (ticket #101530429)-- Artem
