I got this hard drive few months back. After 1 and a half months it died with all my data on it. All I could do it was to reformat and use it from scratch. The technical support very rudely declined to do anything about it, since it was "technically" out of 30 day replacement period. After much negotiation, they had me put another $100 and send another one in what they call as doing a "swap". After about 2 months, it died. This time I was careful and already made a backup so no data was lost. I formatted it and start from scratch. This now happens every week and I am thinking why the hell I am keeping it in use. Every time the computer restarts, the disk may or may not come back. There is nothing technical support will do, they are giving me a hundred possible reasons that could have happened and nothing they can rectify.The truth is they already know about the manufacturing defect so hired the rudest possible person in support to discourage people from contacting them. I see that they are still selling lot of drives because of these fake positive reviews here. This is the reason I got it in the first place. All I can say is learn from my experience and do some research before deciding on a hard disk of this large capacity.

Small and light enough not to weigh down your satchel (or work bag). Metal housing equates to durability in the field (or on the road). Perfect for missions (or travel). LaCie, in my opinion, makes the best in external, portable hard drives solutions.

Works like it should, and there's lots of space. Looks nice and if you keep it in a case it stays nice and works forever.

I'm in no way shape or form a high end user. I simply purchased this drive to backup art files on my laptop using Apple's time machine. It was simple and intuitive (I think that's Apple though, not the drive). Everything seems to work fine with no problems. It's exactly what I expected - a simple, easy, way to back up files without having to think about it.

External USB' cord is so loose. It didnt say it in the description but it is loos that i have to keep the cord to transfer my stuff. Not recommended

2nd LaCie. Awesome just like the first. Also, the plug n play and interface us easy peasy. Just know that 500gb goes down to 470 before 1st use. Unclear why.

In my opinion these drives are a P.O.S. They have remarkably poor file structure stability. After just one simple reformat into FAT 32 format the drive soon crashed and took all my data with it, never to be seen or heard from again. This very same thing happened to a friend of mine in college with his Lacie drive so beware about reformatting them. The USB housing was also poorly built which resulted in the drive dropping in and out due to a hot joint connection. I noticed from reading other reviews about this drive that others have encountered this fault in workmanship as well. Im just glad that I was given this drive free from a sales rep and didn't pay anything for it otherwise I'd be feeling pretty cheesed off about now. In short, spend your money on a higher quality drive like a toshiba or seagate and avoid this piece of junk entirely.

I bought one of these in Feb. 2010 to use with my DVR. So the box has hadheavy use for over 2 years (the DVR is always on).It's setup for Raid5. One drive failed while still in warranty fromLaCie. The box correctly flagged the drive with the error. I was ableto hot-pull the bad drive, and contact LaCie for replacement.While the bad drive was missing the box continued to work with no issues.New drive arrived from LaCie in the mail = slid it into the slot (hot).No interruption in use, the new drive populated itself and everything'sgood to go. Just as Raid should be.Annoyed at the infant mortality of the first drive failure, but it happens.LaCie was quick to replace, and I was never down.I'm probably going to buy another for my desktop computer soon.

No more need for a million flash drives! One of these handles all my backups. I am a graphic designer with enormous files that need a lot of memory. This portable hard drive is small enough to even be carried around from place to place. Super!

I don't keep the hard drive plugged in the computer on all the time, I mostly use it for monthly backups. The Minimus is quiet, loads the folder contents fast, and has a decent transfer rate (I only have USB 2.0 for now).My only complaint so far: I had to format the drive myself with Windows 7 as the LaCie Setup software it comes with fails to launch. A minor issue-- but still, not cool.I've only had it for two months now, so if I have any future problems, I'll edit this post.
