The 7200 rpm allows me to work off of the drive with little decrease in performance and I am working from a solid state internal hard drive. The aesthetics, the thinner design, and the rugged capabilities that we've all learned to love from LaCie make this an incredible product.

But definitely big enough. And boy is it fast enough as well. Can't speak to price because I focus almost solely on quality and features. I really like the idea that drives can be swapped if needed. Too many alternatives either had no option to replace or placed too many restrictions. I didn't need the drive set up the way it came to me so I jumped into the disk utilities provided in OSX. As a long time windows user/developer/fan this experience left me preaching the gospel of St. Steve/Apple as well as LaCie. Perfect. Seamless. Pain-free.It does make its presence known with a blue light that could light up a small room reasonably well, and that isn't something I need or want. It also keeps reminding you of its presence with knocks that, at times, scare the dog. I have mitigated both of these with a 6 ft TB cable allowing me to store it in a ventilated cabinet under my desk.

Just what I was looking for. I can now carry my thousands of pictures wherever I go. I have one slight problem however; The space on the drive was divided during configeration. There is a space for storage, and a much larger space for backup. I don't want to use the drive for backup, I want to use all I TB for storage. I'm sure i'll figure it out. Overall, this is a great product.

I love the speed of this drive, it transfers data very fast average 100MBs read and write speed max write was 157MBs read max was 120MBs. I keep this drive in my bag at all times and it some times takes a beating but the drive has not failed one me yet and seems to be holding strong. Prior to this I had the Western Digital Passport Studio and it was a good drive but deffinitly not as durable. Its a little pricey but I would say its worth it. Only complaint is that I could not get it in 1tb 7200 rpm usb3. I may be upgrading the the thunderbolt drive next.

I have had four of these drives. Three of them have crashed over the course of a year and a half. Maybe bad luck, not sure. My Passport is still going strong. I really liked the cord function on it, which drove me to it in the first place. But, as you can see in the picture the cord has to basically bend at 90 degrees if you want to plug it into something. Over time (not long at all) the rubber will begin to wear out. You can easily just by another firewire/USB cord, but I think the big selling point is the cord, so go figure.

Was so excited to finally have USB 3.0 for Mac. But as you'll see their are some issues. Now you can download a driver from Lacie so that you can attach these along with their PCI-E usb 3.0 cards or their usb 3.0 expresscard/34 to your Mac ... It's all a fairly good idea. Be warned ahead of time a few things!!! One, to be fair I did know this before I bought mine, is that their USB 3.0 devices are propietary in other words you have to use Lacie products and download their Mac driver from their website not compatible with non Lacie PCI-E cards or ExpressCards/34... no big deal just buy Lacie, their most of the time good products and fairly competitive in price. However the bigger problem for me is issue number two, when I plugged in this new Lacie Rikki USB 3.0 hard drive to my mac via Lacie's USB 3.0 ExpressCard/34 it just beeped and no drive showed up. I then tried uninstalling and reinstalling their driver. Same thing it just beeped and no drive showed up, I did know the drive worked ok because it plugged into my desktop just fine but I was really bummed about it not working on my Laptop as this was the main reason I bought it! So I sent in a ticket for support via Lacie's online web support and so far what we have deduced is that there is not enough 'buspower' for my brand new Macbook pro to power this little drive and I now supposedly have to buy an additional "usb power sharing" cable from Lacie. The Lacie rep said they include it with every drive... but be warned this cable is not included with this drive. And now I'm forced into another purchase if I want to use it on my Macbook pro. I've requested that Lacie send me this cable since I had no idea I needed it, and since their rep said it was included with every drive... but we'll see. It does mention inside the box on the back of a card, "Note: Mobile drives may require additional power. Visit [...] to purchase a USB power cable for improved power." Lacie should Note: This is not visible from the outside of the box! and for their rep this cable is not included. This should also be something that Amazon makes a note of since they do not list this possible requirement anywhere in their description either. If I do get a usb power sharing cable sent to me by Lacie then I would probably throw in another star or 2 but this has been a little frustrating and I'd just like for people to know what they're getting. Other than that it seems to work fine although it is still brand new. We'll see if the usb power sharing cable allows me to use it on my laptop...Ok I'm am updating this 2 days later Lacie has been very nice and they suprised me and said that they would be happy to ship me a USB power sharing cable. If your in a huge pressing need to buy this and use it on your Mac Laptop do yourself a favor and buy a USB power sharing cable from Lacie unless you can verify that it's included in the box. The product is exactly what i sked for, it came prmptly, and i love the look of it. only thing i am not a fan of is the sharpness of the edges. I may attempt to file them so i won't get scratched by it anymore :P

4/5 Because 'I' did not know what FAT32 or NTFS is.If it explained what they meant in "simpler wordings" before you configured it; would have been helpful.Otherwise I had to do research on how to reverse my mistake.Aside from my problems. Shock Absorb cover is great since I use it for school; Frequent Traveling/Data Transfer. Mac-to-PC/Vice Versa.Volume/Mass isn't Bad; I thought it'd be a bit smaller.Easy to Set Up.I don't think price was too bad either; about $20 more to go from 500GB to 1TB i believe.I'd recommend this Product.

I have two of these that I have used for over a year to keep backups only of my Windows 7 computer. It holds all the stuff needed for multiple backups and it works. I have had to restore my compuers at least twice from system images and this never failed me. It runs 24/7 and has done so for over a year with no problems. Only thing, it is connected by firwire, but when I restore I have to connect it by USB because the firewire doesn't load right if my operating system cannot be accessed. USB always works, but is a little slower thatn Firewire.

After my Seagate crashed and I lost all my backed up information, I spent a long time researching for a new, reliable brand. So far it has lived up to it's reviews. The orange color is a bit much, but it is rugged, don't hesitate to carry it with you on trips . I haven't had it long enough to know if it is reliable, but it is working using Time Machine on my Mac. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a rugged portable hard drive.

This is my frist USB 3 hard drive. I was looking for a solid state drive but for the price this unit is great.Its pretty damn fast, I use it as a time machine to back up my harddrive along with large HD video files. this is great

I bought a 1TB portable hard drive but somehow it can only store 717MB! MEGABYTES!!! For $129! My micro-SD card stores more than this! Obviously this item I received is defective. I have always used WD or Seagate and this is the first time for me to buy LaCie. I shouldn't have switched. I'm e-mailing LaCie now to see if they'll remedy this.

This is easy to format and the directions on how to format it and install it are very easy to read. I have not had a problem with it at all thus far. My instructors have been using this product since it first came out and they have not had any problems with it.

We purchased this hard drive as an affordable scratch drive for media projects. It worked ok for about a year and a half and then crashed one day. We had it configured in mixed mode which is supposed to add some redundancy for data protection. The error was supposedly caused by the raid controller, not an actual hard drive failure. We lost a years worth of irreplaceable footage. THE MIXED MODE SUCKS, IT IS NOTHING LIKE RAID 1. Do not buy this drive unless you plan on using it in Raid 1 mode only! I will not be buying another Lacie enclosure :(

This little hard drive works exactly as expected.It's formatted for both MAC and PC, which was my main concern as I use PC and my music producer uses Mac. I gave it to him to upload the files and he said he had absolutely no problem.When I got it back from him, the box was open, however. As I was walking to the subway, fumbling to put the hard drive in the case I bought for it, the bottom of the box came open and the drive flew out in slow motion, landing hard on the pavement.I totally freaked, as this would destroy most hard drives, but true to it's name, this RUGGED MINI was completely intact after the fall, and I was able to access all files.It's awesome, and small enough to carry in my purse.

Works most of the time on PCs, desktops & laptops, I still have to fidget with everytime I plug it in to stop the beeping; been a problem since I got it, but I lost my receipt and couldn't return it. Works on Mac desktop, not on laptop... anymore. It use to... Formatted for Mac & PC. I want my files! Worse xhd ever!!! Stop beeping :(
