This drive does work as intended, but the battery only lasts maybe 1/4 as long as they say and it runs so hot you can hardly hold it and if you leave it in a pouch while on, it will overheat and shutdown. Great idea, but needs a new make over to deal with some of these problems.

I've only had this a few days, but my initial impressions are very positive.Basically it does everything you would expect it to do. Power it on, connect to your computer, load it with content, download the app, set your device's wi-fi connection to connect to the wi-drive, start the app...and that's it.Within the first hour - the USB connection for pushing content to it is sloooooow - I had an iphone, ipod touch and my Kindle Fire streaming 3 different movies perfectly well.What I especially liked on the Kindle is you get a list of the movies!! No more guessing with that stupid, idiotic Gallery view in the Kindle App that only shows you thumbnails and forces you to guess the movie!It's not a full, true, wi-fi connection - so I couldn't get it to stream well from 50 feet away - but since you'll likely be sitting right next to it, you should be fine.Battery life is actually going to be the limitation at around 4 hours (I believe), but checkout other reviews as people have discovered a workaround to get it to charge whilst streaming (which it doesn't want to do natively).

As a mobile user i always crave having storage space. This device is very easy to setup and use, keeps my extra data handy and small enough to be out of the way.

Work when fever after severe burn your hand in your pocket seems to not know how hot what'll work, then you are charged, such as anxiety.Work a long time so try failed.

I love the idea. This little unit will serve info wirelessly on its own wireless network and will also bridge to another wireless network. (In theory) I have not had the ability to test it as the unit failed 30 seconds after I attempted to configure it. I am not kidding. 30 seconds after trying to configure it, the links on the "CD" image that the unit utilizes to configure are corrupted. After talking to Kingston Tech support, there is no way to reimage the unit and it had to be sent back to Kingston for service. Hopefully I get a new unit and not a refurbished pone. I have received several different answers to that question. One stating that the this unit will be out of production soon. I would wait for the next Gen.

I got this for my son to be able to watch videos with his Kindle Fire when no WiFi was available. It took many, many hours for me to first figure out how to copy DVDs to it and then to actually copy them over. While not a fault of this product, I was very disappointed that so many videos that my son has bought cannot be put on here. About half his DVDs are blocked and cannot be copied, even though he bought the physical disc. Also, videos from Amazon and iTunes (and other services, I imagine) are not allowed on here--again even though he purchased them. I wish this had been more clearly stated on the Wi Drive's description, as my son spent over $100 on videos that he may never be able to watch (we have a very limited data plan on our MiFi at home).

We have been using this for a year and love it. We have our girls' movies loaded on it and they can watch them when they want. Software is easy to install and use. We need a larger one!

What good is this item if all the videos still have to be in mp4 format to play on iPad? It's so slow trying get anything to openThis thing is useless, I sold it 2 weeks after purchase

The device works well as external storage for my iPad. Connection between the devices is easy using wi-fi. I haven't fully tested battery life.

I really only have a few things to say about this device Kingston Wi-Drive 32 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive WID/32GBZ:PROS1) easy to use*2) portable3) decent amount of space versus utility (wifi was my driving requirement)POTENTIAL-CONS-FOR-SOME1) *I misunderstood several reviews I read. I thought they indicated that the media stored on the device could also be accessed via a browser WITHOUT need of the Wi-Drive application. The reality is that the you can only access the device's CONFIG via the browser (if you know the path).2) *The media can be "browsed" via a browser, technically, if you create an index of the contents and build an HTML document with the storage links. Otherwise, you access media directly via USB when attacked to computer (i.e. for maintenance) or while using it mobile via the application Wi-Drive which is only available for the iOS at the present time.3) The navigation in the Wi-Drive application for iPad is awkward. It would be better if we could have a icon/folder view using the whole screen rather than just a tiny fraction of the real-estate used.

Received a Wi-Drive as a gift. Works great in the car with the kids. Can display their movies individually on my iPad, our iPhones or their iPod touches. Each child can watch their own movie. Package states up to 3 devices at once. I am very happy with the product. Plus, it's a flash based product so it is durable like a USB drive with no moving parts, not like a hard drive. I like the fact that it is small, portable and actually looks pretty decent.

I have spent some time playing around with my Wi-Drive and I'm very impressed! I found it very easy to set up securely, which only took me a minute following the included instructions. I was able to load files onto the drive with ease and playback/viewing on my idevices was quick to do. There wasn't any lag or quality reduction when using with my iPod Touch 3rd Gen or my iPad 2. I loaded videos, pictures, music and a few books in .pdf format on to the Wi-Drive and all were accessible from my devices through the built in wi-fi on the Wi-Drive, so I could use it even if I wasn't connected through my home network. Since iOS devices can only be connected to one wi-fi network at a time, it was useful being able to connect the Wi-Drive to my home wi-fi network, so I could stay connected to the world while viewing my Wi-Drive files. It basically works as a router in that instance. I also thought it was great that both my iPod and my iPad could simultaneously access the files on the Wi-Drive. I could listen to music on my iPod while my daughter watched a movie on the iPad. However, the videos do have to be converted to an iOS format before being loaded on the W-iDrive in order to play them on your iDevices, which is the only downside.. but that's a downside from Apple's end. There are many free converting programs available on the internet to do this.I highly recommend getting a Wi-Drive if you need more storage for your files!!

I've only had this for a couple days so I can't give an authoritative assessment yet. I charged this right after opening it which took a couple of hours. Getting it to pick up my wireless signal took a little doing but finally got it to recognize it. I then hooked it up to my laptop and transferred a mixed bag of docs, music, photos and smaller video clips. The music files play fine as long as they are .mp3's, .wma's won't work. Photos are readily accessible and look great. Word docs & .pdf's open and display fine. Videos are a mixed bag so far, a couple youtube .mp4's played fine, .mov files no go and haven't tried any full length films. The biggest drawback so far is I haven't been able to bridge the connections between the wi-drive and the Fire itself although I followed the instructions in doing so to a T. I either have to connect to the Fire or connect to the wi-drive separately. If you want to listen to music while looking up something on the internet, you're kind of stuck. All in all though, it gives me an extra 16GB of storage at a fairly reasonable price. I think it was in the $129 ballpark not too long ago. Once I get it to bridge the connections, it will be a solid 4.

Item was just as described. Very portable. Easy to set up on my iphone 4. I can either stream movies to my iphone or transfer them. Since I only have about 2.5 gig of available space on my iphone, I can only put 1 movie on my phone at a time. With wi-device streaming I don't use up that space, but streaming can't be used on airplanes and streaming uses up a lot of battery life on the wi-device. So for airplanes (or times where I don't want to run the wi-drive in streaming mode for a 1.5 hour movie), I use the transfer function to store it locally. Playing the movie locally does not require wifi so it can be used on an airplane. I can hold about 8 to 10 movies on the wi-drive and after watching the transferred movie localy on my iphone, I simply delete it and transfer another movie over from the wi-drive. Only downside is that since a transfer requires wifi, I can only do that in between flight legs. Also, the transfer takes about 10-15 minutes for a 2 gig movie. But that uses a lot less battery power than streaming a whole movie. So I figure I could transfer about 6 movies before I had to recharge th wi-drive (haven't proven this out yet though).

This is great. If you have a ipad or a Kindle Fire and you want some back up or stored data or media on the go, this is the product for you. I have transfered movies, pictures and work docs to this so that I will only take my ipad on vacation. It is easy to hook up. Just hook it up to your computer like you would a flash drive. Download whatever you want. Download the app from the app store (free) and hook up to that as your "wi-fi" and you have 32GB of docs, media....whatever. Great device. I am going to order several more. This is what everyone will probably get for Christmas. Especially if the price drops anymore! No question, if you want to store 20 DVD movies or just want extra storage for you Kindle Fire or ipad this is the way to go!Have a good one.

Once you download the software for use on your phone (I have Android phone), it connects easily enough but battery life was woefully missing. It held plenty of video files, which was the primary reason I bought it, but I could get through maybe a couple of movies and then had to recharge it. It was just okay. Ended up returning it.

I paid $49.99 for this little device because it is actually cheaper to buy this than to buy an extra 16GB for the iPad. This device is so simple to use. Just:1. Copy the songs or photos to it.2. Charge it up.3. Download the Wi-Drive App for your iPhone or iPad.4. Turn on the device.5. Turn on the wireless in you iPhone or iPad.6. Once connected, launch the Wi-Drive App.7. Select to play songs or just browse for photos.8. Green indicator- has plenty of power. Orange indicator- still has good amount of power. Red indicator- has very little power; needs to be charged soon.Based on personal testing, it works with iPhone4, iPad 1, 2, and 3rd generation. My only concern is how long the battery will last in this device. Other than that, it is a great device to add additional memory for cheap.
