Reason for buying: I wanted a wi-drive so that I could share files with my friends and fellow students at college. I'm pretty sure Kingston is the first company to come up with this device in an efficient manner.Unpacking: It's efficient because when I got it in the mail, I thought it would be the size of a large computer hard drive. Boy was I wrong! This thing has the exact same width and height as my iPhone and is much lighter. The edges were smooth which allows it to slide in and out of my pocket with ease.Battery: It took about 3.5 hours to charge, which isn't really a bad thing (unless you plan on streaming movies with it). I haven't had to re-charge it yet and I've been using it on-and-off for a few days now. This works just fine for me since I just use it for frequent and quick data transfer.Use: As soon as I plugged it into my Windows PC, it pops up just like a flash drive. I can drag and drop files into it. Why is that so great? Because I don't have to worry about it syncing like iTunes does every time I plug my phone in. I'm literally able to back up all of my phones pictures onto this device. Say I lose my iPhone...big deal! All my phone data can be safely stored on my wi-drive in my bookbag or pocket. In order to use the device, you switch the on-switch on and you download the app for your apple device and fire it up. It's quick and there are no cables, and nothing has to be plugged in. THAT is the joy of this device!Downside: There isn't really a downside to this device other than the fact that you can't use it while it's charging. I'm sure Kingston may fix this eventually though. The reason I still gave it 5 stars is because you should be prepared for the device to run out of juice eventually. This isn't the fault of the device, it's the fault of the user for not scheduling a time to charge it up. But like I said, I haven't had an issue with battery life so far.Great device Kingston, keep 'em rolling out!

Wi-Drive has built-in WiFi. You can configure it using application (Wi-Drive) from App-store and access the drive through this WiFi (you don't need external router).App-store application allows you watch movies (some formats) and listen to music on Wi-Drive.You even can use Wi-Drive's IP address and access its content from other applications. I've tried with GoodPlayer and it worked.

I will have to admit that I should not have bought it based on others reviews. It does the job but it takes over a minute to reconize the wifi drive so you can select a movie or file to play. That is not the bad part.I bought this thinking that if you connect it to your tablet and then plug the charger in so it can charge while you are playing a movie that it will work. So I only get about 3.5 hours out of the drive before it needs to charge if this could charge while playing movies I would give it a 4. Not worth the money compared to how long the charge lasts and the time it takes to charge.

I'm on my second Wi-Drive. The first one crashed/froze after I went to Kingston's website to update the software on it. Emails with a very polite, very co-operative tech person at Kingston did not help, so I returned for a replacement. That worked fine until - don't ask me why - I decided to update the software on the replacement. Yup. Crash. I sort of got it going again and managed to use it to transfer files to my iPad so I am keeping it. But it is of limited value. It is slow and clunky but a marginally useful alternative to The Cloud if I am in an Internet free place.It is a pretty piece of technology to look at and hold, but to use? Meh. If you buy one of these and go to the mfgr's site do not upgrade the software as suggested, and don't have high hopes. Clever idea. Mediocre execution.

I read Steeler Nations detailed review which prompted me to buy the 64gb unit for $139.What an amazing device! After charging, I uploaded numerous videos from my macbook. Upload was very fast. I was then able to instantly connect to it with my Ipad 1 and my iphone 5. Streaming was perfect, range was great.I was able to regain space on my ipad which was consumed with the videos and restored numerous apps I had previously deleted to save space.The device is vey slick in appearance, about the size of an iphone.Shipping was much quicker than advertised-I received the device within a week of ordering and seven days earlier than predicted.Simply a great experience-the device "just works".

For anyone who might want to add additional wireless storage for your Kindle Fire, the Kingston Wi-drive is a great option. It' tiny, about the size of a cell phone, super thin and light, and works great with the Wi-Drive app for the Kindle Fire.I purchased the 32GB version. Would have liked a larger drive, but 32GB is much better than 8GB (more like 5.5GB for media) of onboard storage.I hear that Kingston has a 64GB on the horizon in the near future. But $90 for a 32GB WIFI drive is very inexpensive, so it's easy to buy a few if you desire.To use it's as simple as this...1. Download the FREE Wi_Drive app from the Amazon app store2. Connect WiDrive via USB from your computer and create folders, transfer files etc. on WiDrive3. Find Wi-Drive on your WIFI network and connect4. Watch or listen to media seamlessly. Works greatBy default the Wi-Drive is set to be named Wi_drive and set to encryption to None.If you desire you can launch the Wi_Drive app and go into the settings and name your drive whatever you like, as well as set security and encryption for added security.BTW you can also transfer files from your Kindle Fire to Wi_Drive wirelessly if you desire.I love my Kindle Fire, and with a few limitations, such as only 8GB of onboard storage with no additional storage options (no SD card slot or USB porting). But I'm finding more and more workarounds such as wireless hard drives like the Kingston Wi-Drive and networking apps such as Splashtop, ES File Explorer and the like are making the Kindle Fire much more serviceable and expandable without the need to root the tablet.

Does what it's designed to do but....the iOS app could be better and would be great if the wi-drive offered the choice to use Bluetooth. When connected to the wi-drive you can forget receiving anything like iMessages or email. Text messages are fine to receive but the data part is a real let down.

Techinical support is a joke, does not work at all! Plug it in and nothing! Didn't realize that Amamzons return policy had changed now I have a brick. A very expensive brick. That is useless. Just look for another solution, because this isn't it.

The Kingston Wi-Drive 32Gb worked as I thought it would and I had no troubles at all.Unboxed, charged 16 hours, turned on.On the iPad I could "see" the new wifi network and connect straight away.Connected to PC with USB cabled and copied files onto it (simple copy/paste or drag & drop).Played .mp4 movies on iPad no problem at all.A/C adapter not included but charging can be through PC or Mac USB port. Or just use your iPad / iPhone A/C adapter with supplied USB cable.Charge seems to last well as described.Watching movies, listening to .mp3's, or viewing photos on iPad / iPhone is all done within the freely downloadable Kingston Wifi app. Or USB cable if plugging into PC or Mac.No hesitation recommending this product.Note: your iPad / iPhone can only be connected to EITHER your Kingston Wi-Drive OR your home wifi, NOT BOTH at the same time. Shouldn't be a problem because why would you want to surf the web while watching a movie.Note: follow instructions and connect to kingston wifi BEFORE opening Kingston wifi app... This will save you grief.

OK, I like to take products to the limit and find all they can do. Besides using the unit as it is intended as a wireless storage, it work also as a multimedia router. There's no need to be connected to the Internet to be able to stream hd videos from your computer, phone or any dlna device. Install a dnla server or app on your computer or phone and stream music, movies, and photos to your tv or sony smp200 media player or to your computer with xbmc!!As a wireless drive it works great. Do not place it on a carpet, bed or any material that would work as insulator and it will not get so hot. A glass surface works best :-)Raymond Lohengrin

Item arrived well packaged, on time and as described in the item description. Good quality and can easily recommend to others if needing to share or use non Apple movie files. Built in software could not play Apple purchased movies . It will stream other non-DRM content and worked quite well in that regard.

Recently purchased this to use with my IPad. Works great. No problems setting up. The product does have a restriction on the amount of data you can download at one time (4 gigabytes). Great for expanding your data storage.i have downloaded files and movies and have no problems accessing them.

Compact, solid state. Works nearly perfect. I occasionally need to reset after loading movies. A simple paper clip in reset and your off. Battery life is impressive. I've got about 30 movies between 600-1.2GB and drive is a little bit over 1/3 full. (64GB unit)I had the Seagate. I found it bulky and troublesome, beyond my ability to preform a quick easy fix.

The description goes on and on about how you can "transfer" and "share" files using the Wi-Drive, making it easy to think that you can transfer files FROM your iDevice TO the Wi-Drive. Unfortunately, that is not the case.I shoot a lot of videos on my iPhone, which makes it run out of memory pretty quickly. When I'm on the road, I need a way to unload videos from my iPhone without hauling a laptop with me, allowing me to empty some space in my iPhone and keep shooting. I thought I found my answer in the Wi-Drive, but I was wrong. The Wi-Drive will stream files to your iDevice, but not vice versa. This makes it of no use to me.Maxell's Airstash does allow you to transfer videos and photos to an SD card. I think it only takes a firmware fix to give the Wi-Drive that capability.

Easily access iTunes files copied (dragged and dropped) to the Wi Drive (visit the Kingston site for details and explanatory videos) - you will able to take multiple movies/series with you on a trip without having to pack the laptop - ditto photos and documents. True that there is a 4GB file size limit but iTunes gives you an option to download a SD copy of HD videos you have purchased - so any movie can be carried on the Wi-Drive.

Hackable, but easy to use out of the box. I love to open things. First thing I did was pry this sucker open. It's not an easy item to open....The flash drive is just USB connected easy to swap out. Still attempting to get telnet access on the device. Have moved some other busybox items over..still no shh love..hackaday has some posts on this device.Took a star off because of not so great batt life, seems it should be more smart about sleeping if not sending files. Also this device can be turned on easy in your bag just moving around. It could use a "hold" to keep the power from turning on. Hold could even put the device to sleep. It takes a good 20secs for the device boot.

I have a 32Gig version and a 16Gig version. Both work great. I have not had the issues others have had. I found the set up to be easy with no issues. The internet passthrough works, although, I rarely use it. Movies for the grandkids and for long flights work great. Ok so the rest of the reviews talk about the device, I'm going to let you in on a couple of things I've found out that will make this device even better.First, if you want to use the wi drive and charge at the same time, just start up the wi drive and wait for it to boot up (wait for the blue lights) and then plug it in. The device will charge and you can continue using it wirelessly. It works on the charger and it works on macbook pro and air usb ports. So you can charge and use at the same time.Second, you can use for other storage too. This device will work with webdav. Access using webdav and you can wirelessly access all aspects of the drive (yes you can read and write files) and would not be restricted by file types. Accessing with using webdav makes this a better device than it already is.

I was looking for something to offload pictures and video to from my iPhone so I would never have to worry about running out of space. The Wi-Drive is working great for me. The interface is dead simple and I'm able to secure the wifi connection. I probably didn't need this much storage space but at the price it's nice to have in case I ever need it.

I'm having trouble getting movies to play on my Fire. I thought this device was the problem, so I returned it. Turns out, it's either the Fire, or the movies I'm downloading. So, this thing worked well, just have no need to store movies I can't play anyway.

I recently bought a Android Tablet that didn't have an USB connection in order to be able to use a flash drive for watching movies. This product fits the bill.I am able to connect to this drive using a wireless connection and a app that you can get off the Android Market and Amazon Market.The pros are as follows:No problems connecting the wireless to my tablet.Plays most video and audio files (doesn't play MKV format)Can bridge my wireless internet connection through the WI Drive.Can have up to three connections at a time.Can use the USB connection to be coonected to a computer without using the wireless.The cons are as follows:Battery life is about three hours.Lots of pauses playing a movie with using bluetooth speakers.Had troubles using wireless with a laptop computer. (need to use the web address to access to get to WI Drive root directory. My laptop wants to download the files rather than streaming the video.)Case is prone to fingerprints.Overall, I reccommend the Wi Drive. It is a good unit to use for road trips to entertain the children and others to watch movie or listen to music to pass the time for the paasengers. I plan to use it for my camping trips in order to watch a movie before I go to bed. The connection is reliable and works. Just be sure to have the correct file format so that the tablet is able to play.

For Android users, it's still a great product but since a lot of Android devices have removable storage, it's a little bit less of a "must have" accesssory.It should be noted that while the battery life isn't as great as I would have hoped, it can be used while charging. This means you can plug it into your cigarette lighter via an adapter (not included) and charge while using. Just make sure you have it already on and your device locked onto it's wi-fi signal before plugging it in otherwise it will turn the device off when it begins charging.

The product is just what I need,But I cant use it because I live in Australia and the apps for the Kindle Fire are not available to this region.This realty is annoying!The other concern I have is that music and movies are also not available to this region.I can download movie previews which seems strange.SO WHEN IS AMAZON GOING TO LIFT ITS GAME AND MAKE THE KINDLE FIRE WITH ALL ITS ADDITIONAL APPS,MUSIC AND MOVIE DOWNLOADS AVAILABLE IN AUSTRALIA.I AM SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING BUYING A SMALL APPLE IPAD AND DITCH THE KINDLE FIRE.
