You may be wondering what this device is and what it's used for. In short, it is a portable solid-state drive (SSD) that lets you share files over WiFi. Solid-state means it has no hard drive inside, reliability and durability are greatly increased. Sharing is via 802.11 g/n. You can configure it with WEP/WPA security. (It ships as an open hotspot.) Each device connecting to it must download and install the Wi-Drive app (4 MB for iOS).The drive itself is very thin and light, about the same size as a slim smartphone or iPhone 5, with a very attractive shiny piano black finish. It's battery powered and comes with a USB mini wall charger that folds flat, ideal for traveling. The bonus is that you can use it to charge other devices like the Kindle and iPhone/iPad with a suitable cable, eliminating the need for multiple chargers. The box is entirely paper, with only a bubble-wrapper bag for the adapter and another bag for the drive, so most of it's recyclable. As for the potential uses of this device:For users in a multi-user environment needing to set up a personal area network, the Wi-Drive works quite well. Say, you're at a meeting and need to access files that you and your colleagues are collaborating on. You can place them all on this drive. Or you're on a road trip with your family and each person wants to listen to his/her own music or watch a movie. You can do it all from this little drive. To load files onto it, just connect it via a USB mini cable (included) and manage files like any regular folder. Make a new folder called "Music" for mp3s, "Photos" for images, "Movies" for movies. You don't have to go through iTunes. Setup is very easy and it took only a few minutes to get files on and start using the device. I tested with some photos, music, and PDF's on an iPhone 4S. Viewing my photos (each around 3 MB) was fast. I noticed no delay as I flicked through my gallery from one photo to the next. Up to 3 users can access the device simultaneously. And now for the caveats:Once you're on the Wi-Drive network, you won't be able to access the internet at all. You'll only be able to use the Wi-Drive app. Maybe in the future, Kingston can make it so you can access the device and the internet at the same time. I'm not sure how, but I bet there's a way.The app itself is serviceable, but I wouldn't say it's great. You can view/interact with files, but functionality is limited. For example, with the music player, there's no playlist feature. It's pretty barebones. Some screens are downright ugly, like the photo thumbnails. They appear blurry. However, there is one feature that I find of great use. You can save the files onto the iPhone/iPad photo library. But it's an all or nothing proposition, or one-by-one. You can't pick and choose from the gallery by tapping to select/unselect individual photos, though with some forethought, you could separate out photos into folders ahead of time when copying to the Wi-Drive. This could save you hours managing photos because iTunes is really a pain. I had to help my parents sort through 2,000 photos of their recent trip abroad, loaded onto an iPad for them to wrote down the ones they wanted to print at Walgreens. The iPad doesn't you the filenames, only "51 of 2000". With the Wi-Drive, I could've had them look through it and write down the file names.Lastly, a very superficial comment, but I don't like the super small On/Off toggle button. It is the same size as the globe icon.

I read the pre-release Engadget reviews of this device and pre-ordered the 32 GB Wi-Drive when available. It took 2 hours for a first-time complete battery charge via USB and mini-USB adapter. When I first connected to the computer, I saw that the drive was named KINGSTON, not WI-DRIVE, but it was easy to rename under either OS X or Windows 7. It took only 10 minutes to get things running. First, I loaded 10 full-movie video and 50 audio song files to test the device with 3 different iPads and turned the unit on by simply pushing the side button which has a green indicator light. Then go to your iPad/iPhone and download the free Apple Wi-Drive app, go to Network settings and select the WI-DRIVE network which is broadcast from the unit with blue indicator lights. There are no security settings by default so anyone nearby can connect to the drive. Open the Wi-Drive app and go to the setting button icon which you can set security WEP/WPA/WPA2 settings and complete your WiFi access point setup. The app interface is just like using Dropbox or GoodReader and the menus are nicely designed. The audio and video files are listed on the left menu and simple to select. Now comes the great part, I used 3 different iPads to connect at the same time to the Wi-Drive and selected 3 different movies for each iPad and the movies ran perfectly without a single buffer hiccup. This problem plagues the Seagate GoFlex Satellite. I read comments by others who appear to be overly impressed by the 500GB storage which is functionally limited. The GoFlex menu is slow and does not permit sorting, drops connections and streaming video are choppy at times. The worst feature of the GoFlex is that it does not truly stream media, but rather sends a copy of the media file to your iDevice unlike the WiDrive which truly streams files allowing the user to maximize storage capacity. I just wanted a simple portable network device that will keep everyone in the car happy watching their own movies or listening to their own music. I was pleased to see that 3 different devices can access this portable WiFi network drive without any degradation of media streaming quality. Of course I wish we could have 64 GB or more storage, but 32 GB is fine for day trips and can still hold more than enough media files to satisfy everyone's preferences. The next nice feature is the ability of the drive to connect to another WiFi network which you also configure in the setting button icon. For example, you're with the family at Starbucks and connect the Wi-Drive to the free Starbucks WiFi using the iOS app. The Wi-Drive reboots, connects to Starbucks network and now every one of your 3 other devices can access streaming media files on the Wi-Drive and also access the Internet using the Starbucks connection. Remember, you have to connect your device to the Wi-Drive network to use your files, but this network setting still allows you to retain internet access at the same time. The drive is just a bit smaller than my iPhone 4 and very light. Unfortunately, the unit doesn't appear to work while plugged in to recharge. I was hoping that I could connect the device to a car outlet to continuously power the device on long trips since it is advertised to last only 4-5 hours on a single charge. Looks like you'll have to perform a complete recharge when it runs out which will take several hours using the provided adapter.Summary - this is the best available portable media streaming network device for the iPad/iPhone which works well and simple to use with excellent streaming speeds. Definitely happy with my pre-order decision and suspect these units will sellout fast. Enjoy.****** update 2 days later ******I downgraded it to 4 stars after 2 days of use. File transfers are problem-free and easy to do remmebering that you can only use media files recognized by iOS (eg. mp4, m4v). Programs like Air Video Server are better for local networks allowing live conversion of all other media file types like avi and flv. So if you use other file types, you're stuck with having to use a conversion program which there are plenty available for free. Media streaming to multiple iOS devices works perfectly without any stutters. The main problem I see is the battery life which runs closer to 3 hours rather than 4 hours with constant streaming to more than one device. Contrary to other recent online reviews which makes me question whether some reviewers actually use their products, you CANNOT recharge this device with the miniUSB adapter while using the device. For example, if you have a long car trip, you will only have a little over 3 hours of use and then you'll have to recharge for a few hours using a USB car adpater or whatever else. The access point does not work while recharging. Some reviewers talk about using a plane adapter, but it still won't work while plugged in and I think it's a bad idea and just wrong to use this on a plane since this creates an unauthorize

Have you ever found yourself wishing you could extend the storage of your smartphone or tablet? If so, Kingston has stepped up to provide you with a solution. The Wi-Drive is a wireless storage solution for your device--and it's a good one.PROS:- Easy to set up- Supports all native iOS file types- Android support coming in November '11- Acts as a bridge to extend Wi-Fi connection- Connectivity for up to three devices- Small and sleek designCONS:- Bridge mode currently doesn't support unadvertised Wi-Fi networks- Can get pretty warmIN THE BOXThe Wi-Drive comes with a Getting Started guide, a wall plug for charging, and a USB cableDESIGNThe Wi-Drive is basically a flash-based USB storage device that comes in 16GB and 32GB sizes. Since it uses flash memory, rather than a mechanical drive, the Wi-Drive is incredibly slim and light. The exterior is made out of a glossy plastic that looks great, but attracts a fair amount of dust and fingerprints. At the top of the Wi-Drive is a standard mini-USB port for connecting it to a computer and for charging. On the right side is a small power button and a pinhole reset button.Despite the thin plastic material for the housing, the Wi-Drive feels pretty well-made. It does creak a bit though, if you put pressure on the plastic housing. I also wish it had non-skid feet on the backside to keep it from sliding around.SETUPSetting up the Wi-Drive is pretty simple and involves just three steps: 1. Connect the Wi-Drive to a computer and transfer files over 2. Install the free Wi-Drive app 3. Connect your device to the Wi-Drive over Wi-Fi.The Wi-Drive can be connected to a Windows XP computer and higher, Mac OS 10.5 and higher, and Linux 2.6 and higher. No drivers are needed as the Wi-Drive just shows up as an external USB drive. For maximum compatibility, the drive is formatted in FAT32. When I connected the 16GB model, it showed a formatted capacity of 14.3GB. Once connected, I transferred over some music, photos, video files and documents to the Wi-Drive.After transferring the files over, I downloaded the free Wi-Drive app from the App Store. The Wi-Drive only supports iOS devices currently, but I'm told that Android support is coming in November. Out of the box, the Wi-Drive is configured as an open Wi-Fi network. I went into the iPad's network settings and the drive showed up in the network list as "Wi-Drive."If you want to keep the contents of your Wi-Drive private, you can change the device name (SSID), disable advertising (visibility), and set a password using WPA2. You can also set up bridge mode so that you can connect to the Wi-Drive and a Wi-Fi network at the same time. Without configuring bridge mode, you'll only be connect to the Wi-Drive itself, but not the Internet. Unfortunately, the firmware in the Wi-Drive doesn't support unadvertised networks yet, but I'm told that it's in the works.USAGEThe Wi-Drive is very easy to use. First, you connect to the Wi-Drive over your device's Wi-Fi connection, then launch the Wi-Drive app and browse the drive for media. Tap on the media you want to view or hear and that's pretty much it. You can even transfer files from the Wi-Drive to your device, if you feel like keeping something locally.I had no problems with music, videos, photos, or documents. All the streaming content was smooth and free from lag or stuttering. If you want something that just works, the Wi-Drive is it. The only issue I had was that the drive does get a little warm so you might not want to store it in your pants pocket while it's in use.Battery life is rated at 4 hours and the power button doubles as a battery indicator. A green LED indicates 51-100% battery life remaining. An orange LED indicates 25-50% remaining and a red LED indicates less than 25% charge remaining.CONCLUSIONThe Kingston Wi-Drive is dead simple to set up and even easier to use. The form factor keeps the drive conveniently portable for use on the go and with an Android app coming soon, the popularity of the Wi-Drive is bound to go up. If you're looking to add storage to your smartphone or tablet, the Wi-Drive is one of the easiest and coolest ways to do it.* Review unit provided by Kingston

I've had this tiny drive stream movies to my Kindle Fire HD 8.9", Dolby Audio, Dual-Band Wi-Fi, 16 GB - Includes Special Offers, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1-Inch, Wi-Fi), and iPhone... all at the same time. Maybe it could support more but that would be silly. :)Here are some observations, undocumented features, and tips. - You can access the drive from a PC/laptop by connecting it to the Wi-Drive wireless network and entering the URL 192.168.200.254/config (wonder if Amazon will filter that out. - From there (or from the free Kingston app you download) you can set up network pass-through. You need to connect your device to the drive's WiFi network so you can talk to it. Network pass-through connects the drive to your "real" wireless network so you can reach the Internet while you're connected to the drive. It's a much slower connection than if you connect directly to the external network but much slower is still faster than nothing. - From the config web page or app you can also set up a wireless security key. As it comes configured the drive is unprotected. Oddly, I consider that a benefit, at least for initial use. I've already received a couple of these from different manufacturers where they are pre-configured with a wireless key and it is omitted from the documentation. (and in those cases a reset goes back to *that* key, not "no key". - If you forget the WiFi key it can be easily reset by inserting a paperclip or similar small object into the undocumented reset hole just above the power switch. - A nice feature about the "paperclip reset" is that it resets your security key without deleting any of the drive contents. - It gets a bit warm after a few minutes. - If you use a USB cable and connect the drive to a computer its WiFi will shut down. However, it will continue to run if you connect it to a charger. - For flash memory this thing is downright pokey. It took 1:59... let's call it two minutes to transfer a 1 GB folder filled with image and video files. (I can understand why this feature may have gone undocumented.) - The battery is advertized as lasting 4 hours and for me it's closer to 3.5. By itself, that's still not bad and I always travel with an external battery , for example a New Trent 9900mAh External Battery Pack, which can keep this going almost forever.

Got the 32GB version a couple of months ago. At the time, I had a 16GB iPad2 with very limited storage capacity and could only load 1 or 2 movies at the most.I found out about and bought it by chance since this product (in my opinion) has close to zero marketing behind it.Out of the box, it is very easy to use: plug it in to a PC or to an outlet to charge (2 hours) until the LED light at the side turns gren, load up your movies (also music and documents) into it (USB cable), download the free Wi-Drive app from the App Store, connect your iPad (also tested with iPhone 4S) via Wi-Fi, and that's it.The Wi-Drive's battery lasts 4 hours or so, and one thing I like the most is that you can bridge the device to your home's Wi-Fi router so that you can browse the internet or mail, while connected to the Wi-Drive (this is done on the app installed on your iDevice).Have not tried connecting more than one iPad at a time, but the brochure states that it can handle up to 3 simultaneously.Tips Learned along the way:1.The only way to access content while it is charging is to turn it on first, then plug it to the AC outlet second.2.Since this is a FAT32 drive, you won't be able to load files larger than 4GB (this is an old format standard) so you will need to convert/compress the movie using a PC or MAC program (do a Google search for video converter- there are lots of alternatives). Also, the smaller the file size, the faster it will stream over Wi-Fi.3.If the video is on other non-Apple formats (MKV, AVI...) you must have an app that can read those files in your iPad/iPhone. When you press to select the movie, an option will pop up prompting you to "Open file in..." and you just select the app you want the movie to load. For music, it will default to Apple's Music app. If you need subtitles, you will also need to select the SRT file. For the price, this is a very affordable way of getting extra storage for your iPad/iPhone. You don't need to be a tech guru to configure it, and it works as advertised. The only thing I would have liked Kingston to provide is a faster charge time, but other than that I'm very satisfied, and have even referred this product to other people at my workplace (free marketing, Kingston!)

Crazy how three years ago there were no wireless storage devices, and now we suddenly have multiple options. Thanks to devices that lack external storage (think iPad and Nexus 10), having access to extra storage is more important than ever.Storage:The Wi-Drive comes in a variety of options, and the option you buy is the option you get. The Airstash has an SD card slot, so you can go from 2GB up to 128GB with a new SD card purchase. The Goflex is 500GB (or 1TB in the new Plus), so expansion is not an issue.Connections:The Wi-Drive has MiniUSB, and comes with an AC charger and cable. The GoFlex connects over USB 3.0 and the AirStash has a USB plug built in - you just plug it right into an open port. Despite its large size, the GoFlex has the best connectivity options.Software:This is where things get tricky - all three devices offer Web based connections, the AirStash is the most limited as it requires WebDAV software, which is not very well developed on Android. GoFlex has a decent sync app. The Wi-Drive has iOS and Android apps, and very easy to access files.Playback:The Wi-Drive has some issues with various file formats, in some cases you may need to rename a video file. It also requires you to format in Fat32, but that Windows users won't run into any problems there. The only issue there is file size as FAT32 has some limitations, but to be honest, for mobile playback, you shouldn't be playing massive 6GB files anyway.Battery:I have all three, and the Wi-Drive seems to be the winner here too. The Airstash has a tiny battery and the Goflex suffers the most because of its spinning platters.Price: AirStash wins here assuming you buy it in the smallest size and add your own larger SD card. $170 for 128GB Wi-Drive makes it more expensive than the 500GB GoFlex, but it is of course much more portable.End results: As an owner of all three popular wireless storage devices, the Wi-Drive is the one I carry the most - it is small, has speedy transfers (wish it was USB 3.0) and it has good Android support.

It's impressive, very impressive. It's ready for Mac users to use immediately after charging. No device drivers, no prerequisite steps, it shows up as a drive, just copy to it.Wi-Drive iPad app. Wait until you get both blue lights on the WiDrive before launching the Wi-Drive iPad app. You will have already navigated to it under WiFi, so no big deal.It is not for use during flight; confer with airline authorities, the FAA, ICAO, or civil aviation authorities in your country if you are considering using it during flight. It is a transceiver and the short answer is don't. The device is ideal for use on the ground during a plane change, select your desired movies and transfer them to your iPad before your flight boards. The GoodReader software is supposed to make this possible.Another strategy, which I'll test and bring back to this website, is to use the Wi-Drive as an external hard-wired usb hard drive (via the Apple Camera Connector and dongle) with your jail-broken iPad, during the flight (given that the Wi-Drive won't be transmitting during such a connection).Yes, it heats up while functioning as a transceiver, but not while tethered to your Mac for uploading movies, etc.I have ordered the iphone Shaped USB Mini Air Conditioner (unfortunately, not yet available from Amazon). Further information can be found at this YouTube video which does not mention resellers. [...]To find a reseller, if you don't wish to wait for Amazon (hint hint) to start selling it, using a search engine enter, "iPhone USB Mini Air Conditioner" as your search argument, and resellers will appear. It's about USD 7.00.Yes, it will stream movies while drawing USB power. Have your WiFi connection established, and start the video stream before connecting usb power. Then it will continue to stream the video. If you have the wi-fi connection going, and you're not doing anything with it, the wifi connection may drop even while drawing USB power. Hope this clarifies what others posted on this. Start the video stream, connect USB, you're good to go.

UPDATE - After just four months of infrequent use, the Wi-Drive Wifi signal has stopped working. The device powers up, and is fine as a wired 32GB Hard Drive - but the Wifi Signal (and the Blue lights showing that it's on and active) no longer works (which of course makes it unusable for an iPad.This is advertised as having a 1 year warranty - now we get to see what that's worth, and how much time and expense it takes for shipping on something that might be re-purchased new. I'm keeping this at 2 stars for now and will be happy to go back up to 5 if Kingston stands behind their products and doesn't charge shipping and handling costs comparable with re-purchasing this or a similar product new, now that the price has dropped.UPDATE 2 - so far so good - although I have to pay for shipping back ($3 with confirmation delivery - not a big deal) Kingston seems willing to stand by their warranty and I assume I'll be getting a working unit back shortly-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you're like me you don't feel like wasting a lot of time syncing your iPad or being "tethered" to your home wireless network for music and videos. Constant syncing is a waste of time and energy, and with most iPads and iPhones having limited memory there's little space for loading music or videos onto it anyway.Enter the Wi-Drive which gives you quick and easy wireless access to a 16-32 GB hard drive to add or change music, videos or other files. I didn't even need to bother to read the directions. Plug it in to your computer via USB and transfer music or video files (make sure the video files are compatible with the iPad - i.e. Mp4. There's even free and simple conversion programs you can download to make any video file compatible.)Download the free Wi-Drive App, then turn on the Wi-Drive, make sure you've "connected" with the WiDrive in your Settings/Wifi, open the Wi-Drive application and you should see the hard drive there. There seems to be a range of at least 30 feet between the hard drive and the iPad or iPhone too!Unlike your home wireless network you can take the iPhone size Wi-Drive with you wherever you go. Great for plane trips, car trips with kids - and multiple people can watch multiple movies at the same time. And you CAN keep this powered while using it - but the battery seems to easily last 4 hours which is plenty for my needs. My only lament is that the price of wireless hard drives are still on the high side, but that may come down. I'd also prefer a MUCH bigger hard drive, but while there is one on the market it's much more expensive and doesn't seem to work as simply as this one.For now 32 GB is fine for me, and hopefully by the time that's inadequate the price of other larger hard drives comes down - but for the small size, portability, simplicity and lower price, this one made the most sense for me.

I would have been disappointed with this at the original price, but at the new sales price it's a bargain for those who travel or who want to have a central source of data that multiple users can access. I've used this on a new iPad, a Google Nexus GSM phone and a Samsung Tab 7 Plus and it has worked flawlessly with each of them. With players that don't have expandable storage like Apple or some newer tablets like the Fire and Nexus the need for this is obvious. You either use something like this or you will constantly be shuffling content on the unit itself. This is even handy for products that have expandable storage because if you have multiple gadgets like I do you can just keep music and movies here and not mess with keeping them organized in multiple units. The ability to have the data such as movies or tv shows accessed simultaneously by 2 or 3 persons who can each be watching different shows stored on it makes it perfect for, for example, having kids able to watch what they want in the back of the car during a drive. Like anything else it does have a few drawbacks:1. It runs a bit warm. Doesn't seem to be harming anything, but I just hate to see electronic items running warm.2. The case is an absolute fingerprint magnet. If you even look at it you'll have prints on it. Glossy black looks nice, but is impossible to keep clean.3. The instructions are so-so, a bit hard to understand.4. This is a one way transfer, you can't download content from your unit to the drive for, for example, downloading pictures from your phone to the drive. This should not be the fault of the unit, but It seems to be what people expect so it's a good idea to stress that it won't do this.5. Although the instructions on how to do this are not clear, it is actually quite easy to use this aAlong with another external wifi network and to secure it. Again, not the fault of he unit but many people seemed to not be aware that it can be done.I'm sure that this item is being discontinued since the price is so low, and maybe the new version will allow you to add additional storage with microSD cards, but at the current price the WiDrive is a great deal and a great tool to have.

I had downloaded one movie onto my iPad and noticed that my available memory had really diminished. A little research turned up this device, and it looked to be a better solution than Apple's "Buy the bigger iPad"! When it arrived, i took some pictures and some music videos from my desktop computer and moved them to the Wi drive. This is easy, I said to myself. Then I tried to access the Wi drive from the iPad. Not so easy... The instructions that came with the unit were pretty meager. Fortunately, Google came to the rescue. Kingston has a fair amount of video tutorials that are somewhat helpful, but locating a much more detailed users manual did the trick. After following a sequence of instructions which included a reboot of the iPad, I got connected and was able to view the pictures and the videos. No issues at all with playback. Then I got brave and tried to transfer a movie file from my computer to the Wi drive. No luck - it said the file was too large for the Wi drive. Odd, as it said it was a 4 Gig file and the Wi drive is 32 Gig. So, the jury is still out. When I have a bit more time I will try to work past that issue, as having a couple of movies to take with me on trips was one of the main reasons for buying this device. This certainly was a better choice than getting a new iPad just for the added memory though!Update - another reviewer commented that if you reduce the file size on the movie so it is less than 4 MB it can be transferred. I did that and it copied nicely to the Wi drive and played great on the iPad. Move the rating up to 4 stars!

The Kindle Fire HD7 is a great machine, but there is limited storage if you want to watch a lot of your own converted DVDs on the Fire. This drive solves that problem nicely. First you have to convert each DVD to .mp4 format using a conversion program on your PC; I used DVD Catalyst 4 and it was terrific and easy to use. Next, you need to connect the Wi-Drive to your PC with the provided cable and drag-and-drop the .mp4 files from your PC to the Wi-Drive; piece of cake. Next, you need to power on the Wi-Drive, wait for the blue light (maybe 20 seconds), then on the Fire under the Wireless settings, connect to the Wi-Drive; another piece of cake. Then, again on the Fire, you need to launch the Wi-Drive app (that you previously downloaded, it's free), click on the line representing the Wi-Drive, navigate to where you stored the .mp4 files, and select one to play. It will then start streaming and after maybe 10 or 15 seconds, your movie begins and flows without interruption. Use the Personal Videos app to view the movie. This Wi-Drive and the Kindle Fire HD7 are the perfect travel companions if you'd like to view your purchased DVDs on the road, without worrying about Internet connections. I got the 64GB version of the Wi-Drive, and that amount of storage would probably handle about 40 movies (assuming about 1.5GB per movie). The download speed from your PC to the Wi-Drive via USB is not bad; maybe a couple of minutes per movie. In addition to streaming video, you can also copy files from the Wi-Drive to folders in the Fire, and that would be good for .mp3 songs. All in all, a great little device to take on the road.

In short, the Wi-Drive is a portable, wireless, memory extension for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad but the full reality of it is MUCH more exciting.Kingston developed the Wi-Drive to solve the problem of data storage on Apple's i-devices.There is no way to add memory to your iPhone, iPod or iPad, so when you've filled it up, you either have to delete some data or you're stuck. At least, you were until the Wi-Drive came along.Wi-drive is a self-contained Wi-Fi router with either 16Gb or 32 Gb of storage built in. It's designed specifically to only link up with Apple iOS devices and they can then browse through its memory using a free app available on the app store. It comes with all the usual Wi-Fi security and even includes what is called a bridge, allowing it to connect to your home or office wireless lan and thus share its internet connection.Up to three devices can connect to it at any one time and all three can stream data from it concurrently. That means you can store movies or music on your Wi-drive and up to three devices can stream them off all at the same time. That's not just the manufacturer's propoganda, it works. I've tried it.You may not understand quite why I think this is so amazing, so let me explain how my family is going to use it.Our family has between us one iPhone, two iPods and one iPad.We all have our own music, apps and photo's on our devices and most of the devices are getting close to full. That causes a problem when we go on long journeys because the kids all want to watch movies but none of the devices has enough spare storage space to store more than a movie or two.We can load sixteen or more movies onto our 16Gb Wi-Drive though, throw it into the glove box and enjoy peace and quiet in the car whilst the kids all watch the movies they want on their own devices (through their headphones). No more "I want to watch that movie but it's on the other iPod and she won't let me have it!", no more "I've watched the only movie on the iPad like a thousand times already, I don't want to watch it again."Instead, we can have more movies available and they can all access them at the same time.Wonderful! The Wi-drive has a battery life of four hours, supposedly. I can't confirm that because I always forget to keep track, but I do know that three devices can watch an entire movie and start, or even finish a second one on a single charge. It can charge from a wall outlet or a USB port, so if you have one of those built in to your car, you can keep it running indefinitely whilst out and about.I love this thing, I truly do. It's light, it's styled like an iPhone and even comes in a cool box that is very reminiscent of an iPhone box.Kingston have hit the jackpot with this product. In my opinion, everyone should have one!

PROS: Small, large storage capacity, easy to use, can play the files on different devices (in my case Iphone and Kindle fire), reasonably priced at $49.00 for 32 GB driveCONS: IPHONE APP REQUIRED TO USE THE DRIVE WITH IPHONE IS HORRIBLE!!! Crashes a lot, randomly skips to next song while previous song is still playing, often requires rebooting my Iphone to get the app to work again -- it is really terrible & Kingston hasn't done any updates since 4 months ago despite many negative reviews of the app in Apple Appstore -- apparently they don't think it's important for them to support the app with more frequent updates, so beware if you buy this. The drive itself is a great little device. The battery power lasts about 4 hours and it has roughly a 50 foot range. It streams just fine when plugged in IF you start it on battery first & let it go into wi-fi mode before plugging it in (takes about 45 seconds for that to happen after starting it up).If Kingston decides to fix the problems with the app I will upate & improve my review.

Very easy to use and set up. I like the looks of the drive as well as how small it is. It is about the same size as my Iphone 5. I have quite a few movies stored on the device and it is very easy to delete and add movies to it. I like how 3 different devices can be using it at the same time and watching 3 different things. I get between 3.5 hours nad 4.0 hours out of it before I have to charge it again. I have found that if the device is on, I can connect the charger and it will charge while I am using it. I am not sure if having more than one device utilizing it at the same time would reduce the amount of time that I get out of a single charge. I would give it 5 stars, but I find the device gets fairly hot after being on for awhile. I contacted Kingston by e-mail and recieved a reply back in less than 24 hours. They indicated the device will get hot, but if I felt it was a danger I could contact their tech department. I am not worried about a fire hazard, but it is hot to the touch after being on for a bit. All in all I love it and it allows me to keep my Ipad 2 with a 16GB free of media files to use for other applications.

Took the wife on vacation for a week where we knew there would be no television. Also, took two iPads. We both like different programs and movies so we loaded this up with about sixty hours of various stuff. With the simple setting of the WiFi source to access this, we could both watch our own shows simultaneously with perfect playback. We were approximately 5 feet from the Wi-Drive and had not interruptions of signal at all. No video stuttering. The app available to play video from this is simple and easy to use (and free to download and use).In using this, we were mindful of the listed usable time per charge. We routinely got better than 50% more time than listed even when two iPads were accessing it. And, the little hint one or two reviewers posted about turning it on before you plug in the power charger works. It powers the unit and recharges it all at once. This is about the size of an iPod Touch and about 1/3 the weight. If you travel and want to take music and/or video along, I don't think you can do any better for the price. Even the wall charger unit is flat and light weight and easy to pack.

The product description talks about this unit being able to expand your kindle fires storage capacity. I purchased this unit to be able to store movies that i had purchased from amazon. i have to download away from home due to poor connection speeds etc at my home. In the details it talks about download the app for your kindle and then start saving movies, music and all sorts of things. NOTHING CAN BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH, anything purchased from amazon cannot be saved to this drive, amazon will only allow you to save on the fire or in their cloud which requires a internet connection to access. So in the end you are still stuck with the Fires non expandable tea cup for a memory, no ability to watch your purchased movies without an internet connection or having to delete and download this movie for that movie. If you are planning to use this device with your kindle Fire dont waste your money.later that day, in speaking with kingston, its not their fault - its amazon who does not allow you to do anything with what you buy from them other than park it in their yard and only their yard - its time for amazon to do some rethinking of this - they could allow you to identify that wi drive as a device and allow its use to add memory for the kindle fire - that would be nice - ah well -i am going to return my wi drive as what i had thought it could do it cant -a note to amazon, you already allow for 2 places to download content to, why not allow the wi drive to be one of the 2, one could then use the wi drive as storage and the kindle fire as play back...........it might be worth a look

This is a very nice product. The drive is very compact and looks great. Setup was a breeze and it functions exactly as expected. The only slight disappointment was that I don't believe that one can access the drive as it is charging. Not a deal breaker at all, but it would have been nice. It took me awhile to convince myself to try this drive as I had read some mixed reviews, but for me it has worked flawlessly. When the drive is active it is easily accessible via the WiDrive app on both iPods and Android devices. I will try it via the computer next. I have to say that I much, much, much prefer loading content to this drive over syncing iPod to iTunes. One simply connects the WiDrive via USB to the computer where it is seen as any external storage drive would be. Drag content to it. Then disconnect from computer and you're good to go.UPDATE: Apparently I was doing something wrong when I tested initially. This drive DOES allow access while charging. Everything else still working great.

I love this little item here. It is exactly what I need to have expandable memory for my Kindle Fire HD. Apple iPad owners, you could benefit from this as well. The Kingston Wi-Drive uses a USB cord to plug into your computer or laptop. Then add what ever documents, music, pics, movies or what ever data you want to have accessible to you for your tablet when ever an internet signal may not be present. When you need the data on your Wi-Drive just press the power button and wait about 10 seconds for the blue lights on the Wi-Drive to start blinking. Now KFHD users will look in the WIFI option for the Wi-Drive and connect to it. iPad uses need to look in the BLUETOOTH area for the Wi-Drive to connect to it. Now you can see all the files you have on the Wi-Drive.You only get about 4 hours continuous use out of the Wi-Drive, so make sure to keep it charged. Over all a fantastic must have for anyone using any tablet that do not have an expansion port and may be in areas where an internet connection may not be present.

I bought the WiDrive to take it on vacation. I downloaded a free DVD Ripper (HandBrake) from the internet, watched a You Tube video on how to copy my DVD's (only ones I own, I don't support the idea of ripping people off) and transfer them to the WiDrive. It worked perfectly. The WiDrive is very intuitive, it is like having any other external drive on your computer. I have a Mac so I just plugged the WiDrive into the computer. The computer recognized the WiDrive like it would a thumb drive. After I ripped the DVD's I wanted I just dragged them onto the WiDrive. After downloading the App for my IPad, I turned on the WiDrive let it boot up and the IPad recognized it in the network settings, I changed it to use the WiDrive and off I went. One caviate, if you drag a movie that you downloaded from ITunes it will not play on the WiDrive App, however it will play in an Internet window. I entered the IP address of the WiDrive in the address line and then was able to play the movies from ITunes flawlessly. If you bookmark the address which I did it takes no time to watch a movie saved on the WiDrive from your ITunes movies. It is all explained in the instruction better than I just did, but it was very easy. The battery life was perfect for my use, movie on the plane, music by the pool. It went a full 4 hours for me before I recharged it.You will be satisfied with the WiDrive and it is the best alternative because you still can get on the internet, which some others would not let you do.Very happy and I highly recommend the WiDrive as a solution for extra storage for your IPad or IPhone.

Received this item in good working condition.I found this item easy to set up and use. Down loaded the Android app and installed. Plugged the unit into the computer by the supplied USB cable and added media to it just like a flash drive.I have used this unit on two trips and found the overall experience easy and painless.I found the battery life to be about 3 1/2 hours of continues use streaming video to one device.I had no problems charging it while in use as long as you follow the instructions.I have streamed movies to two devices and streamed audio to a third device with no problems. With this device I am able to expand the storage of my Nexus 7 as well as share my media with others.I would recommend enabling the security so you don't broadcast your media to everyone. This is very easy to do. Just follow the the instructions on kingstons web site or follow the menu in the app.I removed one star because the unit does get hot during use and i wonder if that will affect the lifespan of the device.

I just got my 16GB WI Drive. Within in 20 minutes of having a charged battery I loaded two folders each with about 130 videos and 7 GB(golf instruction videos.) You can do this in Windows Explorer by just dragging the folders you want. A tiny blinking light indicates the transfer is in progress. For me, one folder is for Kindle Fire (MP4) and one is for Iphone/Ipad. You change the wifi setting on your phone/tablet to to receive the Wi Drive. Go to the WI Drive app and the videos are all there. It handled the multiple level sets of folders just fine. This is how you could set up separate play lists. They play quite well without any interruptions or distortions. .The WI drive is small (about the size of a smart phone but much thinner and lighter) with a slick, black top and easily fits into a shirt pocket. Push the wifi button and shortly the small blue lights indicate the wifi is working. Remember that a Kindle will not play a movie larger than 2 GB. When done change the wifi setting back to your regular wifi network. On the Fire, you need to hold the Kindle vertically, so you can see the save button on making a change otherwise it is hiding under the keyboard. I don't know how long the battery lasts. See what you want to load to determine what size drive you need. Right now two 16 GB drives are $10 less than one 32 GB drive.update 9-4-12. I have watched videos for more than 1 1/2 hours with lots of battery left. The drive gets warm afer extended use. It is a bit slow to turn on and to start wifi.
