The JBL speaker sounds good but they automatically shut off after 2 minutes if there is no signal detected to save power. These shut off while I'm playing a computer game that has constant sounds so they are useless. Also, the volume control knob is cheap and difficult to adjust the volume. A poorly designed product that doesn't work.

The sound was good, even decent bass which is unusual for small speakers. But the construction was poor. The wiring connections were weak, and the power supply died after just a couple days of use. We were in the mountains at the time and I just recycled them, not even worth returning for replacement as I wouldn't want another set of these. Bought them on the name. Looking for better.

Just got these speakers today, and I have them hooked up to my Droid for streaming Pandora and stored music from my personal library. These are great little speakers with unreal range! I'm able to turn these speakers up enough to hear every detail without disturbing any neighbors/co-workers, granted our office has sound masking and noise canceling, but what sounds loud to me can't even be heard from 6 feet away in our office setting. I love the bass that these speakers can produce, they sound like they should be 2 or 3 times larger than they are. I wouldn't categorize these as a portable speaker, but more of a small desk top speaker. They measure about 3.5 by 7.5 inches and the connection cables are about 6' long. For the price it would be very hard to beat these speakers. Worth every penny.

I was given a pair of the white speakers as a gift and absolutely loved them. Then unfortunately one day my roommate tripped over the chord and shattered the internal components so i ordered the aluminum ones in order to continue to listen to music. They have been nothing but trouble. First pair, they sent me and they didn't work even straight out of the box. I was given a prompt exchange. They worked for about 2 months. Then the left speakers (the one that actually receives feed from the computer directly) no longer produces any sound. Maybe its an issue of the aluminum ones being different. But I was highly disappointed

I bought these to go with my new IMac, which has not arrived yet but I am using them with my old Toshiba Mini (NB205) and I must say, these computer speakers have incredible sound. I like it that they will turn themselves on and off to save on my power bill. Thats a nice feature. The main reason why I bought them is to "go" with the style of the Imac. I was not expecting the overall quality though and is NOT JUNKI give these JBL speakers an A+++Few things I buy make me happy, for just computer speakers and considering the deal and the quality, This buy made me happy.They arrived fast too!

We bought a new TV for our kitchen and was about to send it back because of its tinny sound that made it totally unacceptable. When we learned that a small speaker system would rectify the problem, we opted for this pair of JBL speakers. They take little space in our kitchen and the metallic finish works well with all the stainless steel appliances; it also comes in white. Problem solved.

Impressive sound quality from these little speakers. Was a little skeptical at first...but just bought me second pair. Love the full sound it provides from my computer (my other set was for my husband who works on music from his computer...still provides a decent enough sound for him also).

I've had this speaker pair for a little over a year now for my laptop. Although I was pretty neutral on the concept of a small pair of speakers when I got it, I've grown to love them. They offer great sound quality (for their size) throughout the range, if only a little bass-lacking, as can be expected in these types of units. Although not as sleek as some of the units you'll find in Apple Stores, they don't look bad at all on a desktop, and the materials quality is good.I can't pass any judgements on their longevity at this point, but based on what I've observed in my year+ of daily usage, I think they'll be with me for quite a while to come. I'd recommend this product to anyone in search of a good, compact, pair of computer speakers.

These are great speakers for the price and this is the second pair I bought. One of the old ones stopped working several years after I bought them. But that's not the problem. The new ones have a feature that shuts them off every time there is no sound running through them. Unfortunately, that also includes low sound and message alarms and a delay turning back on whenever they do "hear" something. Although these speakers have good sound quality for the price, they have a "green" feature that powers them off when they are idle. Conceptually good, but not well-executed. They do not always automatically power back on after being legitimately idle. Also, they go into sleep mode when they should not - for instance, when listening to low-volume music. I have a support call into JBL, but have not yet heard back.

These speakers are pretty nice for the price. Easy to set up, somewhat large but not too bad on a cluttered desk. Sound quality is pretty good for such small speakers and a big improvement over my laptop speakers. Even tho it is just a plug in, the jack connection is not always that great, sometimes you have to rotate it, push it around or pull it out and reinsert it to get it to take... which seems wrong somehow. I am not a techie, I just love listening to Irish music and these speakers work well for me.

There are more iPod speaker solutions out on the market than the entire Mymac.com staff could ever cover in a reasonable time period. Obviously, there is a market out there, otherwise there wouldn't be so many solutions. So what does JBL have to offer with the Duet II Desktop Speaker System? Well, I've spent about 6 weeks trying to find that out.So let's get the errata out of the way. Testing for the Duet II was conducted using a 1st generation iPod Touch, a 1st generation iPod Shuffle, a 1st generation Sony PSP, and a 13" Macbook. I tested the Duet II in an open room (both the bedroom and office) and in an enclosed space (bookshelf).So first impressions: the Duet II is easy to set up and easy to use. Basically, there are only three pieces to the unit; the adaptor, the left speaker, and the right speaker.Everything pretty much plugs into the left speaker and the system connects to the sound source with a 3.5 mm mini stereo jack compatible with just about every electronic audio device out on the market. There is only one control, also located on the left speaker. This is the power/volume dial located on the top of the left speaker. This control is well-integrated into the overall design of the unit, which is very sleek and modern. There is one LED power indicator light at the base of the speaker, in case you're like me and forget to turn off the speaker power after you've unplugged your device. The speakers are about 4" in diameter and 10" high, and while not heavy, they could double as bookends if space is at a premium.So how's does it sound? For it's size, I was very happy with the overall performance of the Duet II. I felt that the system delivered good performance over the entire sound spectrum, and I ran it through it's paces using podcasts for normal speech, a couple of fiddle and violin concertos for the high end, and some trip hop for testing the low end base performance. In all cases the system delivered sound comparable to a good pair of headphones. More importantly, there was no distortion when the speakers were set to higher volumes, which is sometimes an issue with smaller speaker systems.My wife, on the other hand, felt that the sound was kind of "tinny", and at lower volumes (and depending on the equalizer setting on the sound source), I can't deny that there was some of that "tinny" sound that you would normally associate with small/portable speaker systems. It was also more noticeable when the speakers were in an open environment. I found that I got the best sound performance when I had the speaker volume above mid-level, the equalizer on the sound source set to "bass boost", and the speakers placed in a bookcase where I could get a little sound reflected from the bass output located on the back of each speaker.So what are the drawbacks? Well, the main one is the cabling - there's just enough for about an 8 foot separation between the left and right speakers. This is not a problem if you're planning on putting them in a bookcase or on a desk, but you won't be able to put one in each corner of a room (unless it's a small room). The other issue may be price. While I feel the JBL Duet II delivers good performance for the price, there are other speaker options out there for iPod users that are cheaper and will also double as a charger while you listen to your music. Of course, the systems I'm referring to are limited to iPods only, and the Duet II offers more flexibility for those looking for a small speaker system they can use with almost any audio device.Mymac rating: 3.5 out of 5

Great speakers, very good sound for the size.I'm using these speakers to replace the built in speakers for a 24in TV in my kitchen.These speakers provide more volume and better base...a much fuller sound overall. Very happy with this purchase. I would recommend them, just remember they are small speakers, so don't expect them to sound like big speakers...obviously.

These speakers had fine sound quality - almost as good as the internal speakers that came with my Mac desktop computer anyway. I bought them because I needed something louder than the internal speakers, and they were a little louder, but not much. Then, about a week after I bought them, they stopped working. There was a soft "pop" and then no more sound ever. The best thing I have to say was just the Amazon was great about refunding me my money and making it easy to ship them back.

For the price and the quality that comes from these small speakers you won't believe the sound quality, just the right amount of bass and if you want to go loud it can do that too. I was amazed by the quality and sound. I rate these speakers 5 Stars all the way. You won't be sorry and very happy with the price and thank-you Amazon for free shipping. REVIEW: After having this system for a few weeks now I must say, this is the PC speakers you need to buy, and Amazon has the best price, I'm glad I got these and they look good on my desk.

What makes these speakers even better is the price I got them for on Amazon.com! If you want a great set of computer speakers with ridiculous sound quality, these are the speakers you want.

I was still using some old speakers that came with a handed-down computer. They finally died & I found these on Amazon. I got them really quickly (with the free shipping). Put them on my home PC and they sound great! Nice and loud, very clear. Can hear them throughout the whole apartment! Would definitely recommend.

The internal speakers of an iMac do a better job of simulating the low end of the sound range than these piddly speakers do. For what they put out the quality is all right, but the performance is utterly disappointing compared to the previous generation Duets. With these you really feel the need for a subwoofer--that wasn't the case before, and I was under the impression that this was the Duet's primary function: to save you from needing one.I suspect that the bright sound I hear from the upper mid-range is attempting to compensate for the lack of the low range, but it ends up feeling like a badly mismatched pair. For the price premium I was expecting an advance in technology, but what I got was an expensive paperweight. These are going back to Amazon once I can find the time to repackage all the wiring (I was hoping the fact that it still relied on an external power source for sound would be its saving grace, but alas, no).Also worth noting: the black on the back of the speakers is very glossy plastic, cheap-looking--not something more classy and matte as I was expecting.

I ordered these speakers to replace an old set that had started not to work. I use these at work, and sit in a cubicle environment, so must be cognizant about noise. These have a nice, crisp, full sound for the size and are not intrusive in my workspace. They were easy to setup - just plug in and they're ready to go. I wish they were black instead of aluminum, but I knew what color they were when I bought them so really can't complain about that. Overall I'm satisfied both with Amazon's shipping, speed, and the quality of the item.

It is the best computer speaker I've ever used, sound quality is great for the price and the low frequency is surprisingly good for this small speaker!I wish it has a remote so I can easily use it for my Samsung TV, which does not have a earphone outlet ,just a line out which volume is not controlled by TV remote.

I am quite happy with the small JBL Duet Speaker pair. I was a little concerned that they would not have sufficient bass but they sound quite nice when playing. I have always had a good experience with JBL speakers and these deliver. Its really nice that they enter a standby mode when no signal is being received from the computer and turn back on when a signal is again detected.

They look great and the sounds isn't bad when the volume controls worked. Unfortunately now, the volume knob doesn't work anymore and I can only get sound if I push on the knob REALLY hard. The worst thing is that it won't incrementally increase or decrease the volume, it is either off or on EXTREMLY loud. I recommend getting something that is rated a little better! Keep doing your research before you buy.

I bought these speakers to use them for my one year stay in the US, so i didn't buy the most expensive ones. These speakes are better than I expected them to be. You will probably not find any other speakers this good for that price. JBL did what they stand for - great Sound!

I purchased these speakers for my new computer and practically as soon as I got them out of the box, they were working. The only delay was that I didn't realize I had to turn the knob to turn them on! Plenty of volume and very clear. I don't hear any extraneous noise.

Bought these speakers to give my laptop sound a little more oomph. The bass on them sounds great for listening to music, but they do have a tendency to give you some background buzzing. I think the other reviews overrate them, and suggest you shop around before buying.

Very good base and incredible sound. Does not have that "funny computer speaker sound" where you feel the sound is coming from a hollow tiny box. very well tuned and powerful. I have 2 sets of these. :)

The only reason i don't give these 5 stars is because they are computer speakers. But the sound you get for the price is truly amazing. These are a good deal, I may be buying another set for my work PC. If you're looking for low profile speakers with good sound quality, but these without hesitation.

Do not buy. It worked fine the first two weeks. Then it stopped. The power save mode kills this product. I would avoid any JBL product that uses this feature.

I have them on a glass top coffee table plugged into a cd player and it's the shocks seemed to to get stronger it's enough of a jolt to scare a person and it's not funny anymore so quite laughing...!

Overall a nice product with very good sound clarity. Does better with treble (which is my preference anyway) than base and lacks the ability to adjust the preset levels but produces a good overall balanced sound. They are a little large for a desktop system (about 10 inches tall) but otherwise have an unobtrusive design. Good quality from JBL at this price point. Recommended.

I ordered these speakers because I wanted some portable speakers that needed no receiver/amp to play adequately music from my MP3 player. I use them when on my treadmill and I haul them out to the back deck for cookouts. They won't replace your family room sound system for permanent play but for what I believe is their intended purpose, they are great.

These speakers were purchased for use in my office. They look stylish, but most importantly they have great sound, great bass and treble and no feed back. I listen to a variety of music, but mostly hip-hop and R&B where bass is key. These speakers outperformed my expectation with the sound quality. I would highly reccomend these speakers for purchase.

These speakers have a LOT of bass response. I generally like this, though I guess some people would find them too bass-y. The price also seems very reasonable for such a set of speakers. I have only one problem with them, related to the design: The volume knob is rounded at the front, presumably for aesthetic reasons. The problem is that when you try to adjust the volume you have to push against the knob to get enough grip to turn it, but the speaker isn't heavy enough so that you end up pushing the speaker back or holding it in place with your other hand. If you adjust the volume frequently, as I do, this becomes very annoying. It's a surprising engineering flaw.

I compared the JBL Duets to similarly priced Altec Lansing VS2620 speakers. Neither have subwoofers so the bass was limited but not unexpectedly so. Why no sub? Generally speaking, they take up to much space and I find them to be boomy and overwhelming. My main criteria for speakers like this is decent clarity in the mid range and a generally non-fatiguing listen experience. I mainly use these to listen to music streams which are pretty low res to begin with.Neither speaker was "audiophile" quality by a long shot though both had okay sound quality fo the money. I'd give a slight nod to the Altec's which have a bigger sound, more stereo separation, and a generally "nicer" sound.Conclusion: both are better than the teeny speakers on my MacBook Pro 13" and okay for casual listening. I will be stepping up eventually to the M-Audio A40, the AudioEngine A2, or, if I get really ambitious, the very pricey offerings from B&W and Focal.

I've check out a lot of small speaker setups (both with and without built in amplification), and I have to say that the designers at JBL who made these did a stupendous job. The sound is full and robust with both clarity and a decent amount of bass response. I have them turned up to almost max volume to fill a fairly big room with sound, and the've bee sounding great for the last five years. I believe that some products on the market are so well designed that they become classics, and these deserve that sort of status. I hope JBL keeps these speakers in production for a long time.

I'm no expert on speakers by any means but I am amazed at the big sound these speakers put out. And by big I don't mean just loud but big range, from deep bass to high treble. Maybe "full" is a better word to describe the quality of the sound from these speakers. I enjoy them everyday at my computer but I have also used them for video presentations in a large room to an audience of more than 30 people where they had plenty of power to fill the room.

These speakers are a great buy, I bought them for my laptop but have decided to move them to my desk top. JBL speakers are plenty loud enough for any room, and have awesome quality. It was a great buy for the money.

In my life I have owned speakers and headphones of all levels of expense and quality. These were the worst. For this price, one is simply paying for the JBL brand name and the weird non-functional design. I actually paid $50 for a pair of these back in 2005 from the Apple "store," and the horribly traumatic experience of having to listen to anything eminating from them has basically scarred me for life.
