The sound quality is excellent, exceptional compared to speakers in the same price range. The have long wires which allow for setting them up on opposite side of most computer desks. The only thing I dislike about them is the volume control nob, it is very pretty, but VERY stiff and slick, so you pretty much have to use two hands to adjust the volume. But that's it. Great value.

I was looking for a 2.0 audio system with superior sound and eventually decided to get the JBL Duet. Being a composer myself, I know what kind of bass I can expect from such small speakers, but was still disappointed a great deal. I listen mostly to symphonic works - classical as well as contemporary film scores - and unfortunately, I can barely recognize them with these speakers. They make bass instruments (most commonly bass drums, but also tubas) sound overly loud, leading to unpleasant bass-booms, while orchestrational detail, whether coming out of strings, brasses, woodwinds, percussion or chorus - is sadly lost in its entirety.Being a contemporary classical and film music composer and orchestrator myself, I find that while these speakers are excellent (for their price!) for songs in many genres, they do no justice to symphonic music, with the only exception of the simpler works from the baroque era and fully-solo works from all eras (e.g. solo piano). The true beauty of such music comes from its musical detail, and for their low price, the JBL Duet are unable to satisfy the ears (and mind!) of true lovers of such beautiful music.To my welcome surprise, the speakers produce no unwanted noise (e.g. buzzing, clicks, humming, etc) even if both my sound card and speakers are pushed into the maximal volume. Complete silence. However, bear in mind that this may - or may not - change depending on the sound card you use.Wi-fi antennas placed in a range of about 8 inch from each speaker may naturally cause unwanted funny noise (the baby monitor from the movie Signs comes to mind), which I believe applies to most non-studio speakers. Keep that 8 inch distance from each speaker and the noise is completely gone.In conclusion, if you listen to pop, rock and other rather simple songs and look for 2.0 desktop speakers, these ones may be a good option with their good sound and low price. The high notes are indeed crisp and sound nicely, which I believe is going to appeal to lovers of such music!However, if you intend to use the JBL Duet for: symphonic music, music that relies on deep basses (e.g. most electronic and dance music, as well as chillout music) or for films, I certainly do not recommend the JBL Duet.(For the purpose of this review, I plugged the speakers into my state-of-the-art professional sound card in my studio. I believe the sound would be even more unsatisfactory if I plugged them into my computer's on-board sound card, as I believe most users would do for these 2.0 desktop speakers. This is the second pair of JBL Duet Speakers I have owned. I purchased the first pair approximately five years ago (probably longer) for music playback/rehearsal. Unfortunately, I fried one of those speakers a few months ago with loud and intense bass (probably not the best choice for these speakers but I didn't realize how intense it would be).I consider myself fortunate that these same speakers are available at Amazon, at an even cheaper price. For the cost, the sound is great and, with most levels of music, they will last forever.

Bought these to use with a small HDTV with poor sound. Sound quality is wonderful, but volume control is nearly impossible to turn, so end up leaving them on all the time, which is an incredible waste of energy. Because of this, I've actually unplugged them and only use when watching something that needs high-quality sound (concerts, movies, etc.).

I am a bit of an audiophile and have had tons of different home, car and theater speakers over the past 10 years. This pair was not meant to be anything special. It was only meant for occasional use with my laptop (which has an X-fi soundcard and sounded fine with my old speakers).Unfortunately, the speakers sound awful. I would be upset if I paid 10 dollars. There is no depth to the sound and I have heard better sound quality from speakers that come free bundled with desktops. I wish I wasn't too lazy to return them, but alas, I am.

This is actually the second pair of Duet speakers I've purchased. I was so impressed with the sound quality for the price the first time around that I decided to invest in a pair for my office computer. Well worth the price.

Never hesitate to buy JBL no matter whatever is the price. The price of these speakers are lower than the headphone and I was not expecting such a nice quality of sound from 28 dollars speakers but after I pluged it to my HP DV7 I was amazed of such a high quality sound for 28 dollars. In year 2003 I heard the sound of these speaker which came with a compaq desktop computer since then I decided if i would want speakers in future I will only buy JBL. Creative sound card and JBL speakers = Super Quality Sound. Both companies are the doctors of sound making devices.

This set is very nice, both from an aesthetics and audio point of view.Compact yet clear in the treble and deep in the mediums, this set really fits the bill for my desktop.If you are going to listen more than just casually, I would advise to look elsewhere, but for the day-in-day-out use, it is the best compact 2.0 I have listened to as of yet.It doesn't squeel or rattle, quality assembly ensures they are solid and sound flawless.They allow quality listening to my favorite music while I work without being tiring over time.That's all I have to say.good stuff.??????°

I was looking for compact speakers with a built-in amplifier to take the place of the poor quality little speakers on a 20" TV. The spoken voice was just not reproduced clearly with the TV speakers and it had become an increasing problem as I have gotten older. I wasn't looking for music quality speakers. These speakers are inexpensive, compact and match the gray cabinet if the TV. They are a big improvement over the TV speakers and I can hear what people are saying with the volume at a normal level. They take their power from a normal 120V outlet so there is no batteries to fool with. The TV connection is the 3.5 mm front jack meant for head phones. The speakers have their own volume control but are also controlled by the TV remote. I haven't tried them with music since that isn't what they were purchased for. They do what I wanted them to do and do it well. I am very satisfied with the product.

JBL=high end speakers.These are okay, i use them for my bathroom while taking a shower but the sound quality is good not great. I thought JBL would deliver something astonishing thats all.

I may have had these JBLs for longer than 5 years.. I was using a cheap pair of hand-me-down computer speakers and the sound quality was terrible, grating. I read up on these speakers and bought them from Amazon. While I don't expect them to perform like my stereo system speakers, these are excellent for the price range and type (without that extra box for subwoofers).Sometimes I do hear static and buzzing from interference when I have these speakers sitting too close to the problem appliance. I resolve this by moving things around on my desk. Very satisfied with these speakers; great price and durability.

These are attractive, compact, silver-colored speakers that can complement your brushed aluminum computer, like the Mac. They are very reasonably priced and, more importantly, they sound great! They don't have a bulky subwoofer to take up space. This is a great buy.

These compact speakers are far better than my expectation. Sound quality is great and better than other compact speakers (of the similar price). These are perfect for simple desktop or laptop-side sound system, though power adaptor is quite bulky.

These worked really well for the first 6 months or so, but now they make annoying pop! crack! sounds ALL the time, even when I'm not playing music, and it's incredibly annoying. I will be buying a different brand.

It's tough to beat these speakers' sound quality for the price.However, there are a few caveats that make me wish I had spent a little more money.I had the Creative Labs GigaWorks T20 2.0 Multimedia Speaker System with BasXPort Technology. They were terrific speakers and had no cell-phone buzz at all. They were weighty so you didn't have to hold the speakers with one hand while turning the volume know with the other.Unfortunately after a few years they went out on me so I had to pitch them. I got these JBL's because of good reviews and that I'm a fan of JBL's speakers.These speakers are VERY light. That sounds like a good thing, but it's not. You can't turn them on and off one-handed. You have to use one hand to hold the speaker down and the other to twist the volume knob.That leads me to my other critique of these speakers. The only reason I would even want to turn them off is because of the horrible cell-phone buzz you get with the speakers on. I never had this problem with my Creative T20's.At this point, I'm ready to give up on these speakers and go back to Creative.

Beautiful rich sound quality - far better than others in the same price range. Plenty loud enough for blasting, good bass without an annoying subwoofer to thump the neighbors; fine detail at lower volumes too. I've had these over a year now and could not be happier. Great big sound in a compact package at a nice price.

I read reviews here and elsewhere and decided on JBL Duet Speakers for my iMac. I could not be more pleased. Clear full sound. I have experienced no buzz as mentioned in some reviews. Highly recommend. I was willing to pay several hundred dollars for a good sound. This system cost me $38.00

I bought these for my room in college for freshman year. I'm now a junior and I still have them. They work great, sound great, and best of all is the portability they have. Unless you want a big soun d system with the bass and everything this is the way to go.

The Duet IIIs look elegant. They also look as though they might be top-heavy and tend to capsize but they do not. Their bases are big enough to keep them standing. The sound the Duets produce has a nice balance between clarity and richness. Both music and spoken voice are heard clearly with reasonable richness and without the booming false bass that spoils the sound of many cheap speakers. These speakers obviously cannot produce the high volume of larger audiophile speakers that cost 20 times as much but, for use with a computer they are close to ideal. Nice work, JBL.

As might be expected from a computer speaker made out of plastic parts, these are lightweight and sound like a good quality mini computer speaker. They have pretty good voice placement, clear sound but lack mid-range separation and "warmth".I like to listen to blues, classical, pop and metal. I usually like to test speakers out with Bonnie Raitt's Nick of Time CD...don't know if it is audiophile quality recording compared to some other CD's since there is a lot of mixing done on the CD. But, I know when I've heard "Cry on My Shoulder" on a great pair of B&W speakers and even budget B&W's my hair stands on end...the sound effects and vocals really have "feeling" to them.With these computer speakers, some of the effects on the beginning of Cry on My Shoulder(rainsticks) are almost lost. "Nobody's Girl" electric acoustic guitar sounds good with these speakers, but again Bonnie's voice is a little hidden with the lack of midrange.I will try some creative mixing with my soundcard, but compared to my headphones with the same soundcard settings, the lack of midrange is pretty noticeable with these speakers.I am debating whether or not to keep these because I am dissappointed after reading the accolades from audiophiles. Yes, they are good for the size...for the price...for being computer speakers...for being plastic, etc. Every item of praise needs to be qualified - "good...for a (fill in the blank)".If you have a limited budget and want something to give you good (not excellent, blow you away) stereo sound that can go plenty loud (assuming you are sitting the typical 3 feet from these speakers), then I'd say go for these speakers.If you are listening for hours on end while working at your computer and want something worthy of true praise, that brings out the best in your favorite music you better bump up your budget and get true audiophile quality speakers.

I'm not a big Amazon review writer, but I just had to come on here and set things straight. These speakers are just not that great. They are slightly better than "standard" computer speakers, sure, but not by much. I wanted something with a big sound - these things become distorted (especially the bass) at medium volumes. If you listen to heavy rock or bass-heavy r&b, you better plan to listen quietly.These speakers are not a bad deal for the price, but I think they have been hyped up way too much in the reviews here.

Pros- Inexpensive (at least at Amazon)- Stylish looking (especially if you have an aluminum Mac)- Decent soundCons- The volume knob. Sweet mother of pearl, that thing is HARD to turn! It isn't that it's stiff, it's that it's slippery and doesn't provide enough grip. You can't turn it off without using both hands, and even turning it up and down isn't as simple as it should be. Very poor design on JBL's part.- I was not familiar with the concept of shielding, but I get what people are talking about now. These speakers snap crackle and pop any time my cellphone is near it. I didn't have this problem when I was on Sprint, but it sure as has heck does it now that I'm on AT&T.I got these speakers because I wanted them to match my desktop setup (I know, I know, but I'm a designer so it was important to me) and because they supposedly sounded good. They sound good enough for the money, but when you factor in that they aren't shielded, yikes. Not a good thing. If you aren't on AT&T and you can find these speakers on the cheap, then I'd suggest putting them in your short list. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

I own a computer in which the speakers are built in the monitor, and they are completely awful as most people know. I found these JBL's at best buy but then later returned them because amazon had them for almost $10 cheaper. I am extremely satisfied w/ the sound quality these produce. I love that I can hear them perfectly clear in my bathroom (from my bedroom) which is a good 15 feet away. They were extremely easy to hook up to my computer as well. if I had to complain about anything it would be that the volume control knob is odd, it's too smooth, not grooved enough so I mainly use my computer control to adjust volume. overall i love these speakers and would recommend them to anyone looking for speakers for their computer looking for great sound without spending a ton!

I bought these speakers when I left for college, and they were the perfect size to fit on a desk, fill the room with music when I'm working out, etc. The sound quality is great, and its easy to set-up, and as important, disable: just plug them into and out of the headphone jack.However, if you want to throw a loud party, get something bigger: After having them on full blast a few times, they started to get a static-sound at high volume (fine when lower though)Still, I don't think there's anything better out there. I'd buy again.

I updated my wife's computer and needed a set of speakers for the old system and these speakers was just what I was looking for. They look nice, sound good and the price was great!The only thing I don't like is the on-off/volume control knob is too small for my big clumsy fingers. I do like having the option to turn them off, but volume control is tough. Other than that they are just what I needed!

These speakers are great. They're uncomplicated and simple to use. Definitely helps that you don't have to lug a subwoofer around with your laptop if you decide to take these on the road.They travel well, just make sure to wrap them in some clothes for protection. The cords are a bit long, but as long as you're good with cord management they won't be all over the place.

For someone who listens almost exclusively to classical music, I would recommend these reasonably priced speakers to listeners who do not need the exaggerated base response one hears in rock and rap music. {That may not be entirely fair to these musical genres but it sounds that way to me as cars broadcasting this music pass my way}. The speakers have very good stereo separation, especially when one is sitting at a desk. But even when one is elsewhere in the room, the sound is quite convincing. For someone like myself who is mechanically and technically challenged, setting the speakers up was without frustration and despair. The speakers have the added advantage of taking up relatively little space and are, at least for my aesthetic sensibilities, rather attractive.Gary Schwartz

JBL Duet Speaker System for Portable Music and PC - Aluminum (Pair)All I have to is thatJBL has come up with the perfect speakers for the PC & labtop, I don't see the need for boombox type speakers for your PC the Duets sound perfect at any sound level for the price which I was pleasently surprised I did not expect such great sound, By the way I did not encounter any buzzing or humming from the Duets I should have gotten these sooner!

I figured given these are made by JBL they'd have absolutely perfect sound. Well, the bass isn't as great as some reviewers on the site I purchased it from had said. Also, the on/off/volume control knob isn't as easy to turn as one would think. I had trouble for a while doing it one-handed without holding the top of it down. The phrase "You get what you pay for" doesn't quite apply to this - the price should be much lower.Unless the speakers I received have some manufacturer defects, I would recommend looking into a different set of speakers.

Attractive and easy to install. I expected at least some base from the speakers. With no low end they sound very tinny. All and all I am dissappointed with the product and would not recommend it.

These speakers provide better sound than built-in speakers, just be sure you have a decent sound card, since that is sometimes the difference between good/bad sound. These speakers don't provide much punch, but for the money they provide decent sound quality. I purchased these for my mom, who kept complaining about the sound of her Toshiba laptop speakers. These have helped her enjoy much better sound for You-Tubes and other audio bites/recordings on her computer.

So many have given the details on these speakers, so I won't repeat it....I'm really glad I read the reviews and decided to spend just a bit more than planned, they perform as the 5 star reviews state. I have a new Mac Mini, and they are perfect for that. Only little nit pick is the on off vol knob is pretty slippery and hard to use, a piece of scotch tape fixed it fine. The sound is as good as my Bose wave set up.

JBL Duet PC Speakers (2-SpeakerS, Aluminum)I bought this speaker from Amazon. I thought about buying the logitech x-140 2.0 Speaker Logitech X-140 2.0 Speakers. I will review the JBL duet and compare it against the Logitech one.The JBL speaker sounds great. No question about it. Even though I am only a casual gamer and listen only to online classical music, I can tell the sound quality is pretty good on this speaker.However, this speaker has 3 things I find that made it lose 3 stars.1. The speaker comes with a power converter that require extra space on my extension cord. It is the biggest one among all my PC components now. On the other hand, Logitech X-140 combines the converter into the speaker itself so no extra bulky converter.2. Speaker is light and feels like cheap plastic. The front knob that adjusts the volume is very hard to turn with just two fingers. Oftentimes, I need to use both hands to get enough grip on it to turn it on and off. It is a bad design.3. There is nothing besides the volume know that doubles as power switch on the speakers. On Logitech X-140. There are two easy to use knobs for volume and treble (if i remember correctly). And 1 audio out for headphones and one in for microphones.Overall, X-140 is definitely a better buy at 29.99 than JBL Duet at 41.99.

I have very acute hearing--my tests go off the charts. When I bought a new TV recently the speaker inside the TV was grossly inadequate. I had heard these speakers in the home of a hearing impaired family--the Dad had bought a set for his daughters who are able to hear. So, I ordered a set to connect to my bedroom TV. I've been very pleased with the audio quality. Easy set up; simple operation. The most difficult part was plugging them into the TV set.

For the price these speakers work fine. My wife does not listen to music very loud on her computer. If you are looking for something you can really turn up these are not the ones. But for everyday listening they are good.

I purchased these JBL speakers to replace my iMac's stock poor sounding speakers. The JBL's do put out excellent sound quality for the most part. They have buzzed once - When I checked the line - their was some dust on the male contact prong. I used some can air and blew the dust off. It then returned to normal. I have played all types of music through them from classical to rap and it all sounds good and clear and when turned up quite loud for a little set. Does not get distorted when turned up. I do have a few gripes. The duet plug has this huge box on the outlet is that really necessary? Why can't it have a normal size plug? I had to get a whole new outlet tree to support this plug! The speakers also have this REALLY annoying GREEN power light on each speaker. I used a piece of tape to cover them up. Also, the volume/power switch on the right speaker is difficult to grab. I have to pick the whole speaker up every time and use two hands to turn it on or off. Otherwise my computer looks like a xmas tree with all the colored lights on it.

When they work they work great. Full sound, way way better than the build in speakers. After about 6 months I started to have to tweak with the audio cable because only 1 speaker was working. The tweaking started to be needed more often until it stopped working and I could hear sound only from 1 speaker. So I bought a new pair of speakers hoping that I just got a defective pair (and also because they are so inexpensive). After the first 6 months when they worked great now I have to tweak again with the cable because they stop working (this time both of them, even more annoying, especially when I am far from the laptop cooking and sentences get cut in the middle of my listening). It is not a problem with my laptop because when I use headset I never have issues.Now I am shopping for a new pair, no I will not buy these for the third time.

Bottom line, the sound is so bad my wife told me to return them. They sound like the free speakers included with a PC.I bought these based on the reviews here, but unfortunately they sounds awful. They aren't good for the price, which is very high for the quality.It isn't the lack of bass, I expected that. I wasn't expecting these to sound as good as my big JBL speakers (L100T). I was expected them to have undistorted sound, and to be better than an intercom.I ended up spending $100 on better speakers, not wanting to get sucked into a succession of not-good-enoughs
