nice pair of speakers. the only con I can see if that when you plug this speaker into your cell phone for music and if you didn't turn up the volume on the phone the spk will shut itself off probably due to low volume input.. but once I increase the volume on the phone all is good again.

I needed some speakers to go with the old laptop I travel with and these are perfect. They are loud enough that I can listen to music and watch movies as well as TV shows. Works great for me.

The reason I got these were the brand is JBL & small footprint so fits on my computer deck. The speakers hook up to my Apple computer with just a coupe plugs so installation is easy. The sound is clear but the volume is not that high & there is not much bass. For this price I would expect a built in speaker amplifier or something. I can sit at my desk & turn the speakers to max & still not loud enough to bother me. The sound does not distort at all at full volume listening to Pandora which is good but should have controls for increased treble & bass. I WOULD NOT buy these at the regular retail price... I got these on Amazon for a discounted price of 40% off which is just about what these are worth. I think the price is sharply discounted because the product does not live up to its original steep price.

I purchased these speakers from Amazon back in October of 2010 for use with a boom box during product demonstrations. At first they seemed to work pretty well. However in this past month I noticed that I no longer could get sound out of one of the speakers. It seems to be a problem with the way the input jack connects the two speakers together. I have contacted the manufacturer to try to have the unit replaced as per the warranty. Trying to locate customer service and the correct return forms has been a nightmare and a time sink hole to say the least. A renowned quality expert defines Quality as the cost of a product after it has been shipped from the manufacturer... in other words the cost to the consumer who has to jump through hoops, use up time and postage to get a product replaced or repaired. This product and the manufacturer are not recommended on that basis. Next time I buy something like this it will definitely be a different brand.

Let me first say I love my JBL Duet speakers. They sound great and are very stylish. I have a netbook (Toshiba NB205 White) and the speakers look like they were made specifically for my system. I am VERY satisfied.I usually don't bother to review products, but I must say the JBL Duet speakers (white) are very good all around with only one flaw, though a significant one. I found that using them can be frustrationg as the sound/on/off button is hard to rotate. You need to rotate the button to turn the speakers on and then continue for the volume you desire. The caveat comes from a design flaw: the slickness/smoothness of the button. The button tapers in front as well, combined, that creates a frustrating situation though you can work around it. Such as powering them on the power strip to your system and then shut everything down from the strip itself--this is what I do.So how difficult are they to use? Well when using the speakers I usually have to hold the top of the speaker (the one that has the on/off control) with one hand and then turn the button with the other. Making it a two handed operation (rather than being able to use one hand easily). This gives me the leverage I need.So I wonder why such a decision was made, didn't the design department (at JBL) vet their own design? So you have a button that is slick/smooth AND tapered on the most used (if not the only used) part of the speakers. Though convoluted and frustrating to turn on/off the speakers, everything else is great! The sound is clear and vibrant and even the bass is well defined, which is a nice touch on a two speaker arrangement. I would recommend these to anyone looking for good sound--at a very good price point.

These are nice looking, low profile, white speakers. I bought them to plug into my Macbook so I could actually hear my movies and music. They put out quite a bit of quality sound. I would recommend these speakers to a friend on a budget.

I bought these speakers about five years ago. They have been working fine no strange noises or buzzing.The knob is slick, I solved that problem With a little supper glue brushed on the knob. Make sure to let it dry before you use the knob. You can also use some silicone glue also and let it dry over night.

I bought a pair of these at the local bricks 'n mortar MacMall. They never worked right. The extended speaker never gave the volume of the main speaker, and eventually the main speaker sound cut out completely. This was after a month of use. Complete trash.

There is a design flaw in the on/off volume switch. I attached very small stips of adhesive velcro loops surface in between the lines on the knob so it has grip. Anything you can do to give the knob some grip will work, it is tapered out so when you try to use it as is your fingers slip off. That is it, otherwise these speakers are a great value, no need for a subwoofer the sound is excellent for computer speakers.

These things are about 7.5" tall. They are...well, speakers have long been a subjective thing, but they're tolerable looking if not really my taste. I like beige, all right? The speakers are so small and light that they are easy to push around accidentally.That brings me to one of the major problems. The power knob is really small and slippery, so you will probably push the speaker around just to get enough traction to turn it on.Both speakers have L.E.Ds., in different locations. Really excessive and distracting.Sound quality - mediocre. I don't care about bass, and I think in the right situation (not being exposed to better sound) you could get used to the sound quality, but I am disappointed after reading all of the entusiastic reviews and spending all the money. I just needed some speakers, though, and I don't want weird ass 5.1 black speakers I can't mount...so my options were limited.I suggest you keep looking.

I got these speakers in 2006 and I'm still enjoying them today. I read some of the reviews here and decided to leave one myself. These are computer speakers, you are only going to get out of them what you put in. If you are using the sound card built into your motherboard you may not have great sound quality. I'm using a SB Audigy and the sound is superb. The bass is awesome for a set of computer speakers. The bass isn't going to shake the walls or rattle the windows, if you want that buy a sub woofer and a good sound card.

I read a bunch of other reviews for speakers for computers and stumbled across the JBL. I have had it now for about a month and so far so good! They sound pretty good to me and the price was right! I looked at some of the others but they did not get all good reviews and were much pricier than the JBL's. I am happy with my purchase.

Bought these 3 months ago. I listen to them pretty loud (Katy Perry and such). Only 1 speaker works now, not good quality. I smelled electric smoke a few weeks ago and they have always had static in them. Not a good speaker.

If you are just looking for some good speakers to listen to music, you tube videos or casual gaming these are great. I'm sure they don't compete with the ones twice as much but you get what you pay for. Remember that.

I have been using these speakers now for about two months and the sound quality is GREAT!!! I had a pair of Infinity speakers before this and these blow those away, easily! I listen to all types of music and the sound quality is terriffic, regardless of the genre, the only problem I can think of has to do with the volume control. I read a lot of reviews before buying these and some people mentioned this, I thought it would not be that big of a deal, but it is a little annoying. Adjusting the volume is difficult because the volume control is pretty small and it is a little hard to adjust. This is the only complaint I have, they sound great, the setup was easy, but adjusting the sound is a little more difficult then I thought it would be. Otherwise, for the price I am very happy that I bought these and I would still recommend them to anyone!

These speakers are extremely easy to setup. Just plug them into your headphone jack and you're ready to start listening to music. Volume is controlled from a swivel on top of the right speaker. They are also very pleasing to the eyes and match my Macbook Pro perfectly. Now, the big question I'm sure you're wondering is how do they sound? They are certainly not the best speakers I've ever heard, but I guess they get the job done. If you really want to crank them up you'll get distortion and an audio hum. I've been running them at roughly 3/4 volume then control the audio volume through my laptop.I wouldn't recommend these for an audiophile that wants extreme clarity and a really loud speaker system.I would recommend these for a person that just wants to hook a laptop up for increased sound when watching you-tube, listening to iTunes and watching videos. These speakers also hook right up to my iPhone which is a nice little bonus.Bottom line is these are a nice speaker system for a cheap price. Don't expect these to be your main sound system though. Their simply a cheap solution to get a better sound from your audio devices. I was only going to rate this 3 stars but decided to give it 4 because the diversity in electronics that you can connect to it as well as looks. If I was rating sound only I'd have given it 3/5 stars.Please refer to the pictures for a reference on there size. In the screen that's a 22" display their sitting next to. So they are a fairly large speaker.

I've had the speakers for less than a month and one of the speakers just stopped working. I believe that the volume was always at a reasonable level, so I don't understand why the speaker doesn't work anymore. Highly disappointed.

I wanted some external speakers to use with my iMac 24" computer. These speakers had good reviews, the price was right (under $40), and the aluminum trim was a nice match for the iMac. The hookup was trivial, and they sound perfectly fine when used with the equalizer controls in iTunes. Without an equalizer, you might not be as satisfied. I wasn't expecting audiophile level sound with this setup, but I'm very well pleased with these speakers for computer and iTunes use. No regrets, I'd buy them again.UPDATE: I'm using these speakers with an Apple iMac 24" computer. After connecting these speakers, iTunes began to randomly open and play music or podcasts from my iTunes library. I researched in on the web and sure enough, connecting external speakers to an iMac can cause iTunes to randomly startup. I believe this is caused by a poor connection to the headphone jack on the rear of the iMac. On closer observation, the plug from the JBL speakers wasn't making a solid connection to the jack on the iMac due to interference with the plastic on the plug. I was able to trim this plastic with a pocket knife so that the plug would fully seat in the jack. No more problem. I think the iMac also uses this jack for earbuds with a remote control, and a poor connection to the remote interface maybe at fault.BOTTOM LINE: If you are using external speakers with an iMac and iTunes begins to misbehave, look closely at the plug on the external speakers.

5 / 10 The speakers sound just about ok. The base sounds better when you are facing them from the side. Overall sound is even on the ear. at medium level they are not "screechy" They do start to distort when you crank them.10 / 10 They look great. That is their only saving grace.2 / 10 They are poorly made. The base of the speakers should be heavier so that they can't be knocked over. The cabling stinks too. It is unnecessarily complicated. The ports into the speakers, where the cables are attached are shoddy workmanship.2 / 10 They are way overpriced. I payed $99 plus shipping. In my opinion they are worth about $15 to $20 at the most.I do not recommend them. JBL should be ashamed of themselves! This used to be a top notch recording studio monitor company. I know, I own one. I loved my JBL 4411's when they were the wild thing in the 80's.

I recently moved into an apt. complex with "thin walls" so I hear my neighbors' TVs rumbling. Not wanting to blast them with heavy bass, I researched and opted for the JBL Duet III Speakers to attach to my iMac. Very easy to set up, but had to return to reviews to be sure the right speaker was the one with the controls. This wan't real clear in the diagramed instructions. I listen to a lot of acoustic music these days and Traffic's "John Barrleycorn..." and Shelby Lynn's "Gotta Get Back" sounded great. Crisp and clear with enough bass, Hot Tuna with Jack are next. I'm satisfied.

The JBL Duet III speakers are the latest from the JBL Duet series of two-piece systems. They produce fair but not great sound.The Duet III excels at treble audio with remarkable clarity. Music sounds fine as long as no bass is required. JBL has not addressed bass in the Duet III. In fact, there is no bass/treble controls on the Duet III, just a unique volume control with an off setting on the top of the right speaker.Installation is quite simple: just connect the attached cables of each speaker and then hook up the AC adapter and connect to your audio jack on your PC or Mac. JBL has permanently attached all cables. You just need to plug them into where they go. The negative of this configuration is that it makes is difficult to move the speakers to another location without removable cabling.My biggest complaint is the pricing of the Duet III. At a list of $149 and a street price around $115, you would expect better sounding speakers. Yes, the high end is very clean, but there is little low-end audio.If you want to impress your friends, show them the great look of the Duet III speakers with their champagne design. Just don't let them listen very closely as they might be disappointed. For $149, I would expect better sounding audio than what the JBL Duet III provides.

Although JBL is known for quality speakers, I didn't expect much from low cost computer speakers. Surprise, surprise, what a sweet sound. Fills the room with a full range, crystal clear sound and I'm kind of fussy about this stuff. Highly recommend!

I am a borderline audiophile- but not with my desktop computer system. These reasonably priced speakers fit the bill for my incidental desktop music listening and video watching. If I am going to rock out, I go to my home stereo system anyway. These speakers have excellent range and a surprising amount of bass for such small & light speakers. If your computer is your primary music producer, these likely wouldn't cut it, but are really nice speakers for the price and quality of sound produced.

So for $50 speakers, what do you expect. Plug them in and they play sound. Kind of hard to mess that up, right? My gripes are twofold, however:1) The volume knob is the ONLY thing on the speaker that you ever need to touch, and yet they've made it incredibly difficult to turn. It's tiny, slippery, and basically requires two hands to turn (one to hold the speaker and the other to grip the knob *really* hard and turn). Maybe I just got a bad pair, but you'd think they would make that ONE single thing easy to use.2) There's definitely a buzz coming from the speakers. I can hear it right now. It's not loud, but loud enough to hear in a quiet room. bzzzzzz....They seem minor, but I find both of those problems to be increasingly annoying. In fact, after a few months of using these speakers, I think I want to replace them. I'm surprised that others liked them so much.

I've had these speakers for a few weeks. They have a clean look. The white ones match my ipad keyboard dock really well. The bass is surprisingly good for a 2.0 speaker system. I have two complaints that would keep these from being perfect. The shiny, silver knobs are slippery for how hard they are to turn. Sometimes I have to hold the speaker down with one hand and turn the knob with the other. Also, I would like a notch or marking on the knob to let me know how far I have the speakers turned up. These complaints are VERY minor. I gave them a 4 star in 'Ease of use' because I am being picky. These speakers are worth the $50 that they sell for at other places.

After reading the reviews, I decided to purchase these speakers. I was blown away at the sound quality. You cannot beat this quality for the price. I have them hooked up to my HD TV for surround sound and they sound great.

Wow. I just got the JBL Duet speakers and they're phenomenal. I have them hooked up to my iMac at work (took about 2 seconds to connect them), and I listen to music all day. The sound is full, rich, clear and vibrant. Exactly what I was looking for. I'm not a sound engineer by any stretch, but I do test the speakers in different ways. Every way the sound is terrific. I pull in XM radio online most of the day and the sound is superior. I switch to my iTunes if there is something specific I feel like listening to, and its terrific as well. But where I get the most out of them is listening to TV/radio commercial mixes. I'm in the ad business and we're constantly working on audio for new spots. I can decipher all the different tracks our engineer puts down, from music, voice to sound effects, and I'm able to evaluate them right at my desk. And at $37 for the pair, they are an incredible value.5 stars on all counts for the JBL duet speakers. I highly recommend them.

I read a lot of reviews on various speakers before finally settling on these JBL duet IIIs. I must say I am very impressed. Some reviewers seamed critical of their sound quality, but perhaps their expectations are too high for a pair of desktop speakers. I won't say that these sound as good as my 6.1 dolby set up, but in general they produce great sound for music and movies. The bass could be a little deeper, but it is very clear and the mid-treble range is flawless. If you order these expecting the sound of a full stereo system you will be disappointed. However; if you just want good sounding speakers that are easy to set up and don't take up a lot of space, you will be very pleased. I paid $107 w/ free super saver shipping and it was worth every penny. Nice job JBL!!!

Sound is ok unless you want it louder (about 60-70% of the volume control range) , then you can clearly hear a distortion on the middle and high frequency. It holds the lower range pretty good. The volume control knob is small, tight and slippery. It's hard to turn or rotate it without holding the speaker. Price/quality ratio is good, that's why 3 stars.There's no output for headphones.

I chose these because they had been well reviewed. Maybe because I have old ears, but I couldn't hear the base very well. That is a disappointment. Everything else is great. Clarity is fine.

The sound from these JBL Pro speakers is good. I use them with a MacPro, and they are better than the built-in speaker. The only annoying part is the on/off/volume knob, which is an odd shape and not easy to turn with one hand.

See a lot of other reviews about buzzing sound - this is terrible. In addition, I'd like to mention that there's nothing fancy about sound quality - it's normal, which is below my expectation for the price (I'd expect quality to be noticeably above average). Buy $5-10 speakers on ebay and get similar result with no buzz.I'll try to check if manufacturer will accept a return.

was looking for some powered speakers for work. these fit my bill great! small, affordable, sound good for the size. listen to them with my sony mp3 player all day at work. have gotten lots of compliments on how they sound. have recomended others to buy them. so far so good, we'll see how long they last, i work 50 hours a week, they are on full blast all day. they get a real workout. hopefully nobody will steal them!

I am very pleased with my new speakers. I knew they had good quality sound before I ordered them as a friend of mine owns a set. I am sure there must be higher quality speakers in the market - and a lot more expensive too - but as far as I am concerned, this set exceeds my expectations and I am very happy with this product.

I bought these speakers in 2005. 5 years, multiple Macs, and multiple moves later, they're still going strong and sound great! I tried to switch them out with an iLuv Portable Stereo Speaker Bar for Mac/ PC and Laptops (iSP150BLK) to get rid of the bulky (though standard-size) AC adapter they use, but after a couple minutes of that speaker bar's thin sound, I plugged these JBLs back in and packed the bar up to return it. Also, my cat loves audio cords and chewed through the cord connecting the left and right speakers...twice...but after looping the cut wires together and taping over the exposed wire with electrical tape, they still sound just as good as new. I am completely sold on these speakers. They produce a really nice sound, and are a great value.

This is the second set I've owned. I had the first pair for over a year and only had to replace them because I accidentally damaged the plug. The speakers still work GREAT!I originally bought these speakers because they fit within my budget and was pleasantly overwhelmed and surprised by how great they sound. Even when it come to low end and bass they pull it off very nicely. I use them not only for music but while watching movies and have not been disappointed.I would pay twice the price and still say: For the cost you CAN NOT BEAT THESE SPEAKERS!
