I haven't been happy with a pair of desktop speakers since I had to give up the Harmon Kardon eyeballs that went with my old G4. But these sound terrific.I opened the box, cabled them together according to the nice clear pictures, turned them on, configured the computer, and was hearing rich, clear music in about two minutes. (Bonus points: all the cables are long enough for the somewhat awkward requirements of my nonstandard desk.)I can't believe two small speakers on a desktop can sound so good, especially at this price.

I bought these speakers so I could play my guitar along with the music on the media player on my computer. They sound great. Supprisingly deep lows, crisp but not brittle high end and smooth in the middle. They look good too. Too bad there are still so many wires.

These are great sounding speakers for moderate volume music listening. In my opinion you're better off w/o a subwoofer which only muddies up the sound and takes up space. I own a very expensive stereo. For my computer I like getting by with cheap.

Problem #1: As others have stated, there is a horrible cracking/buzzing noise coming from both speakers when the music is soft or is not playing. This is not acceptable.Problem #2: I'm surprised at how many people say the speakers sound so great--very mediocre in my books. It sounds like a cheap ghetto blaster from the 80's. You definitely get what you pay for with these light, tiny speakers.Problem #3: I agree with others--the knob is not just slightly annoying becasue it's so slippery, you actually can't operate it unless you have both hands free so that you can brace the speaker with one hand (for leverage) and use the other hand to control the knob.My recommendation: I recommend trying different speakers. I'm not one to give many bad reviews, I usually have very good luck with most everything I buy, but I thought I'd put in my two cents here so that others can avoid this product, not worth it.

I have been searching for a good 2:2 system because my 5:1 surround sound just took up to much space, I was very straight forward on what i wanted in sound clarity, a high dB capability in a small foot print, and style. This device fit everyone of those credentials, and the fact its made by JBL makes it all the better. I have trusted this company for years for their sound performance and they have yet to let me down.If your looking for a good 2:2 and a descent price this is it.

I bought a pair of these for my mom a while back. I must have heard them in a store because I already knew they had the most bang for the buck. I got a new laptop I use on my desk a lot and wanted to enhance the sound. I knew just where to turn. The silver speakers match all my apple gear and sound great. I live with a sound engineer and he was amazed at the sound that comes out of these little speakers.

These speakers arrived yesterday. When I hooked them up, they only produced a shrill whine. I called customer service. He sounded like an idiot. Told me to try plugging into the earphone outlet. Then told me to ship them back and he would ship a replacement. I need them now to study online lectures with, so I told him to forget it. If you want something that works out of the box, don't buy these.

I have owned these for awhile now and really love the way they sound, great quality of sound for the price, it has a full range of tones that sound natural and I will be keeping them. They have a nice looking style, bose and jbl are my preference for speakers and these are quality all the way

I bought these for my PC at home and they work perfectly, Maybe some of these other reviewers have problems specific to their applications. Mine were slightly used, I could tell the way the cords were bundled, but they stated they may be " slightly" used when I bought them. They work great and I am very happy with my purchase.

I agree with reviews I read prior to buying these speakers. The knob is hard to turn (you basically have to use both hands). And the speakers will pick up some sort of feedback or static from nearby electrical items including my desk lamp. But, the static is hard to hear when you have music on above a quiet level. All in all, I am happy with these speakers. The sound is pretty good and the price is right.FYI, they plug into any headphone jack, which is also a big plus. So I can play my old iPod shuffle on them. I can also plug them into my Walkman. But primarily I have them plugged into my MacBook.

For the price, these speakers are great. I find the sound quality to be excellent...these were a wonderful option for my Macbook, as the speakers on it can be hard to hear.As others have mentioned, the power/volume knob is somewhat slippery and thus hard to turn. However, I simply leave my speakers on and use the computer's volume controls.

I absolutely love these speakers. Great, clear, full sound and pretty compact too. If you're not a picky music geek and just want a nice pair of speakers for your computer or iPod that plays out music nicely, at a reasonable price, look no further. I'm so happy about these. I can't get enough of them. I could just sit here and listen to my music all day.

So there I was in Best Buy, agonizing over the choice between these speakers and the Bose Companion 2 speakers. The Bose ones had a great display and sounded great, too. The JBL ones were not even out on display. But I had read good reviews about these on this site, and given the $40 price difference between these and the Bose, I figured I'd give these a try.I'm really enjoying them. The sound is warm and the mids are crisp. They have a surprisingly good lower end considering how small and light the speakers are - I was expecting them to be on the high-and-tinny side.It's of course hard to compare them directly, as I didn't buy the Bose, but so far I'm very happy with these - and I'm pretty particular about sound quality. They're half the size and half the price, but they certainly don't sound like a compromise.I give them 4-stars not because they have any obvious faults, but only because I think 5-stars should be reserved for the truly exceptional.

These speakers were easy to set up, they sound great and look good as well.I use them for music and general web surfing. My only complaint isthey must be turned off manually using the volume knob. I would have liked them to go off automatically when I shutdown my computer.Overall I would recommend them as an excellent value, quality built with a reasonable price.

The pair of JBL Speakers we purchased are great! I like their appearance. They're white, & modern looking, & they are weighted in the base, so they're more stable, less tippy, than some I've had. And most importantly they do the job of being speakers for the computer. I'm not an expert at sound equipment, but they seem to work fine for our needs. Thank you.

NOT PLEASED WITH THE SOUND FROM MY LAPTOP, I STARTED MY SEARCH FOR SOME EXTERNAL SPEAKERS. AFTER READING VARIOUS REVIEWS, I CHOSE THE JBL DUET PC SPEAKERS. I AM VERY PLEASED WITH ITS SOUND OUTPUT, LOOKS, AND EASE OF HOOK-UP. WHETHER IT IS LISTENING TO INTERNET RADIO OR THE CHILDREN PLAYING DVD GAMES, THE SOUND PRODUCED IS AMAZING (NO NEED FOR AN EXTERNAL SUBWOOFER)! I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THESE TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR A SET OF PC SPEAKERS. THEY ARE REASONABLY PRICED AND SOUND WONDERFUL. GREAT JOB JBL!

I bought these speakers to replace the Harmon Kardon speakers that I had previously used with my PC. They sound fine for everyday listening but I was disappointed that they lacked two key features that my previous speakers had (No tone control and no headphone input.) But that was my fault for not checking more thoroughly before I bought. Still they are good quality sounding speakers and they were not expensive.

These speakers are pretty good for what you pay for. They don't offer much for bass, but there's obviously no subwoofer. When turned up loud, there is an obnoxious hissing noise, but that can be reduced by adjusting the volume on the computer and the music player. Other than that, the sound quality is pretty good after I played around with the equalizer a little more too. Over all, they are pretty good and they get the job done.

These are replacing a set of Klipsch desktop speakers that went to a new HDTV in another room so they are getting compared to a very good set of speakers that cost around $200. First of all the sound is very impressive for a set of speakers at this price range. Other speakers around this price have been very deficient in my opinion. The bass is weak compared to the Klipsch (those speakers have 3 cones each, high , mid, bass) but not bad. You get a reasonable rounded sound that is fine for most web viewing and relaxed music listening. I can recommend these for a anyone who wants decent sound for their computer but isn't looking for powerful audio dynamics. The design of the set leaves a lot to be desired but I can get used to it.

After reading so many good reviews of these speakers, I was convinced to buy them. Wow! They are indeed amazing! I have spent the last hour absolutely transfixed, going through all my albums, when I actually meant to get other things done. It's as though I am rediscovering my music library. I am hearing all kinds of things in the songs (any song, any album, any genre) that I never noticed before. Thanks JBL and reviewers.

I bought these speakers because they looked cool. I figured all small PC speakers would sound pretty much the same anyway, so they won me over in the cool department. And they did sound pretty nice until I turned up the volume to 3/4.These speakers fail in the most basic areas.1. When the volume is turned up they squeal, regardless of the orientation of the speakers. This must be an internal flaw with the circuitry.2. You cannot adjust the volume with one hand. The knob is too smooth and too tight to grip so you have to hold the speaker with one hand to get a good grip on the knob to turn it.OK, so I told myself I must have gotten a dud, it happens. These speakers could never have passed JBL quality control and actually been mass produced this way, could they? Then one day I came across a co-worker who had a set of these at her workstation. I asked how she liked them and she told me the same things I just told you.As I am reading all these glowing reviews I am thinking "OMG people are going to buy these speakers" so I felt compelled to share my experiences to warn potential buyers as I wish I had been warned. My speakers did not make it back from vacation, they are somewhere in a Mexico landfill.

Speakers have good sound for the money. They add a lot to the built-in speakers on my iMac, which left much to be desired. For you audiophiles, you are going to get what you pay for... The speakers have rich sound at a moderate volume level, but they will never make your head explode. The speakers look good, but the volume knob is slippery. I cannot seem to get them to sleep with my computer, so I have to turn them on and off quite a bit. Four-stars for emphasis on price in regards to sound.

All the great reviews here had me hoping for something that was at least better than its peers in its price range. Nope. They perform just like other $30 speakers. The clarity the folks speak of simply isn't there; these sound just like cheap full-range PC speakers except they have slightly better-than-average treble extension. There is very little bass extension, even less than I expected from a small full-range speaker.Overall, I'm not unhappy with these speakers, but they are surely nothing special either.

For the price I paid, these speakers are awesome! The only thing I don't like is the size. They're a bit bigger than I thought, which makes them difficult to transport, but the sound quality is great. I have no regrets and would recommend to anyone looking for BIG sound at a little price.

I had bought a different brand of similarly priced speakers before and was perfectly happy with them until they broke. These speakers have an annoying buzzing sound that will not go away. If anyone knows how to get rid of this sound please help me! If not for the buzzing sound they would be just fine.

I am very happy with these speakers which I purchased to amplify the sound of my SONY VAIO laptop. They produce crisp highs, solid lows and a quality midrange on all types of programming both of music and of voice. I purchased the white ones for my kitchen where they match nicely with the other white decor: a toaster, microwave, clock radio, and flour and sugar cannisters.My former set of speakers were cheaper but came with a bass floor unit. I do miss that floor unit a little as it added a warm and rich vibration to certain musical and vocal passages, but the bass response of these speakers seems to also resonnate well on the countertop where I have them positioned.I really like the styling including the silvery sheen of the speaker cloth. The shape is also very artistic- like having a sculpted piece of art to enjoy as I go about working in my kitchen. Everything about these speakers makes me pleased with my choice. I wouldn't expect to do any better in the $40. range than this.

I tried to use these with my laptop (Dell Inspiron 1720) but couldn't get rid of the buzzing noise others have mentioned, no matter how far I moved them from the computer or where I plugged them in. I took them to a different room and tested them with my mp3 player, where they worked fine and sounded pretty good. So -- before ordering, consider what you will use them for.

For the money, these are great speakers. I am running them from a 2005 Toshiba laptop, and after configuring the equalizers they sound clear and full. There is not tremendous bass, but that works well for me. Most computer speakers have used have too much bass that leaves you with a headache and ringing ears.I wish the on/off knob turned more easliy. I have to hold the speaker while twisting the knob.

I read some of the other reviews of these particular speakers before I decided to order them. There are many 5 star. I thought, if this many people are happy with the speakers then they must be OK. I was pleasantly surprised at the sound quality of these rather inexpensive speakers. They are perfect for a small room. I listen to a lot of music online and I am really enjoying them. The only reason I rated 4 stars instead of 5 is because I had to pay more for the silver color? Not fair. White would not have matched my computer.

I've owned many many speakers over the years. Small speakers like the Duets can easily be hit or miss. Obviously with a name like JBL, you would expect that they are more "hit" than "miss", and this is true. These speakers are crisp and provide a reasonable amount of lower-end response considering their size.My two biggest complaints: Lack of a headphone jack on the front (which isn't a problem for me with a laptop, but on a desktop machine it could be an annoyance). The speakers aren't labeled right and left (and even the instructions aren't labeled). The ONLY way to figure verify that you have the correct setup is to plug them in and use the attached device to test (it happens that they follow the "standard" of volume control on the right speaker). Neither are deal breakers, but certainly would have made these speakers worth "5 stars".

As many other users have stated, the speakers sound great. Voices and music sound clear, and have noticeable bass.Caveats:- The knob is slippery, so you probably don't want to adjust them that often. Use audio controls on your computers instead.- The speakers absolutely will not turn on without the power cord. On my old Sony SRS A37s, I could run them without power at the cost of bass and lower volume, but no sound comes out the JBL's at all.

I wanted some simple, decent speaks for a laptop I set up in the family room for the kids to play games on, listen to itunes, watch dvd's etc as the built in speakers were pretty puny. I found these here, already highly reviewed and they are as advertised. I rarely give 5 stars but these speakers earned it. They are elegant to look at, not too big, a breeze to set up and the sound quality is startling. I expected ok but these speakers go way beyond that - I was really blown away. Well worth the money. I guess other speakers may look cooler with lights and such but these are truly the best quality in the price range.

These JBL Duet speakers truly sound great! I use them hooked up to my Ipod Shuffle and they sound awesome, for such a small 2 channel speaker set up. Do not expect major bass, because they do not have sub-woofer. They do clearly bring to the table, quality sound that more expensive speakers bring, for a fraction of the cost. I would recommend these to anyone in the market, looking for a two channel speaker system for there computer, portable audio devices or gaming.

I bought these because they are white and match well with a Mac desktop. However I too had buzz problems but not as others described. I can't put my AT&T GSM/GPRS/Edge and 3G phones in the same room. This is no good because I want to make and receive calls while using the Mac. I had a charging station 8 feet from the computer and still had problems. Shame on JBL for not designing a shield in the speaker circuit. They sound good and look nice, but I sent them back for a refund.

These speakers are perfect for the audiophile on a budget. JBL long known as a top name in stereo floor speakers is now a great addition to your computer audio needs. Perfect for quality sound when listening to your iTunes collection or satellite radio. Definately worth the cost.

These speakers have reasonable sound. The speakers are more than the average. however they are very light-weight and, the volume control is hard to turn in proportion to the weight of the speaker. You will have to hold down the speaker in order to turn up the volume.

These speakers crackle when plugged into my laptop. If I unplug my laptop the crackling is reduced, but still perceptible when playing soft music. For loud music, these deliver a nice sound quality; but the crackling drives me nuts when I'm playing soft piano, acoustic, classical guitar, or really anything without enough "wall of sound" to drown out the crackle. I would have bought other speakers if I'd known.

These are the third set of computer speakers, I have owned and they are the best so far. If you like clear and succint high pitched sound these speakers can give it to you. The sound is clean. My kitchen is large than the average and the sound produce by these speakers is more than enough to fill it up.

I bought these speakers for my wife to use with our MP3 player in our kitchen. It is a smaller kitchen, and a under cabinet CD Player wouldn't fit, but these work perfectly. The sound quality is great (although I don't have much to compare it to), and they look really sleek. Excellent buy!

These are a great pair of speakers. I have them hooked up to an Apple Airport Express to stream music to my living room. The sound is beautiful. There nothing more to say. Great speakers, at a great price.
