I bought this to replace an HP 1012 printer that I have had for a few years. Prior to that I used the previous generation of HP inexpensive laser jets. I have always been a fan of their small printers - they cost about $100, they print all day long, and in a word they just "work!". I bought this one thinking it would do the same thing. My advice: buy something else - you will hate this printer.Let me preface this by saying that I work in IT. When this thing feels like working, it works. The problem is the wireless feature doesn't work properly, and you constantly have to reinstall the stupid thing in order for it to be locate-able on the network. I won't bore you with all the details, but if you're looking for a printer that just works reliably and doesn't act up every third time you try to print, this isn't that printer.

The wireless feature will not work and if your Mac is 10.7 or above you're probably going to have to return this printer. The instruction manual is very limited and online information is scattered and ineffective. May perform differently with PCs but I do not know. Two stars because it works fine with USB connection. No sense in paying for a wireless feature if it does not work.

This printer has been all it claimed plus more. I purchased for the wireless function and I am not at all diappointed.The printer was so easy to install and use. Thank you Amazon and HP.

I bought this printer because I needed a laser printer for my iPad & iPhone and the price was right. As soon as I opened the box I discovered that you MUST have a desktop computer to set up the printer. Can't be done from iPad even though the printer is marketed for that device.Tried for HOURS to set it up with my Mac but could not get the printer to connect to the router. The software was EXTREMELY buggy, crashed constantly, and often the HTML (setup) button just wasn't there. Does not work at all with Lion unless you download the new driver from HP. Brought in a Winderz computer from work and it completely set up perfectly within a couple of minutes. Obviously, this printer is only designed for Microsoft products.Having said that, now that it is set up, the printer is very quiet, fast, and does a good job -- otherwise I would have given it a one-star. It works well with both my iPad and iPhone and I like the automatic shut off after a specified time. BUT! if ANY other vendor made an inexpensive laser printer for AirPrint, I would go with that instead of HP.

I just bought this to replace an old Laserjet 1012, which was dropping toner. It seemed like the addition of WiFi would be convenient, but truth be told, I ended up just plugging it into my airport express.The main problem with the wireless is that it is only compatible with 802.11b/g which is not stated anywhere in the tech specs. This is a problem if you limit your router to 802.11n connections.The second issue with the wireless setup is that it seems like your SSID and password can't have spaces in them.The last issue with this printer is using it via Bonjour for Windows with my Airport Express. It simply won't stop printing. The document stays in the print queue and continues to print infinite copies of itself until you go in and manually delete. This is pretty annoying.Lastly, and unrelated to the annoying network connectivity issues, is that it puts off a pretty strong smell when it prints, much stronger than only laser printers I have had in the past.Other than that, it prints fast, crisp documents as you would expect a laser to.

On paper these little HP printers looked great. They had everything we needed! However, my happiness soon turned to disappointment. Once I got these to my clients office and set them up I could NOT configure them to a static IP or a static host name. So what use is it to have three printers all with the same name (cannot differentiate which is which) and all with dynamic IP addresses? I will be returning these and questioning the sanity of the engineers at HP, again.

This is my third wireless printer, and I have had it for about one month. The first I still own (photosmart), the second was an inkjet wireless airprint that I loved, but refused to continue to pay the cost for the amount of ink it used. This one I plan on keeping.I am overall very pleased with this laser; the print quality is good, price of cartridges and the number of sheets that print with each cartridge is excellent. It also prints now from both my computer and iPad, which was a main reason for buying this model. Installation was very easy, however the printer would print wirelessly only from the ipad. I had to use a cable to get it to print from the computer, then it wouldn't print from the ipad. Frustrating. I finally discovered that if the printer is deleted, after software and driver installation, then added from the printer/device location in the control panel, the printer prints from both computer and ipad. I did not experience this situation with either of my other wireless printers. The only quirk is that I print lots of mailing labels and the labels are warm after printing. Caution has to be used to let them cool for a minute before using, or they curl onto themselves. I am very happy with this purchase and would give it 5 stars if it had printed from both computer and ipad immediately.

This printer has its faults. I takes it too long to start to print, sometime as long as 5 minutes. Once it prints it is OK and does a good job.I would not purchase another one like this one.Eldon Bullington

I bought this printer about a year ago and it works fine - no problems installing the driver, getting it to work and such.However, beware about the double sided printing. The way the paper tray is designed gives a lot of leeway for crooked double sided printing (as the paper gets "curled" after the first side gets printed).

I got this printer at a great price and absolutely love it so far.* What's good:- Great price.- Laser printer means you don't have to worry about drying cartridge if you are an occasional user.- Relatively easy to install.- Compact size that can fit anywhere.- Printing speed is better than I expected.- Wireless support. You can hide it and print from anywhere.- Mac compatible, mine is running great on latest Lion OS.X.- Recent firmware upgrade makes it even better for Apple's users. Airprint supported - which means you can directly and easily (zero configuration) print from your iPhone, iPad, Mac...- Printer goes to sleep mode after 5 mins (configurable) and wake up immediately when receiving a print job, environment friendly AND user friendly.* Cons:- Toner costs about $60 but it runs you up to 1600 pages.* Installation tips: I plan to use this printer, wireless only, for PC, Mac, iPhone and iPad. So here is what I did:- USB connection is needed (one time only) to configure and initialize the printer.- Install printer on a Win7 laptop (with provided CD and USB cable), select wireless printing to configure the wireless settings and join the printer into WIFI network.- Update latest drivers/software (download from HP's web site)- Update latest firmware (download from HP's web site, which supports Airprint). Firmware is updated wirelessly, very impressive.- After firmware update, the printer is now ready to print on Mac, iPhone, iPad without any configuration needed. Thanks AirPrint.- For other Win7 PC/laptops, using latest software/driver downloading from HP's website or just use provided CD, install the driver by selecting the option saying that there is a wireless printer, just add it.

I bought this about 6 to 9 months ago to replace an expensive to maintain color inkjet printer. This was a good choice. One of the best features is the ability to "hook" this up to your Wi-Fi network. The second great feature is it's affordable cost.On Feb 14, 2012 HP posted a new version of this printer's firmware on the HP website. This version of the firmware allows you to use this printer with Apple's "AirPrint" feature. So now I can print over the WiFi with my iPhone 4S and iPad. This is a great feature if you have Apple products.As others have said in reviews, the docs do a poor job of explaining how to get this to work with Macs. However, once you get it configured correctly it works very well.I knocked a star off and give this a 4-Star rating as I occasionally have to reboot this printer as it seems to lose connection with the network. It's possible that the new firmware corrects this problem but I haven't been running the new firmware long enough to see if it fixes that problem.

Setup was very simple using my windows pc got it up and running on my wireless network in less than 5 minutes.Thought I would have to do something additional to get it working for my iPad and iPhone but I did not! It automatically was already available to print on all my idevices.Bought 2 additional toners on amazon for 20 dollars! And its a laser printer so these should last a very long time!

While the printing capabilities of this printer may be good, I bought it for its wireless capabilities and those were sadly defective. There were no instructions for hooking up to my wireless, but I went to the HP website, which said that all I need to do to convert this printer to AirPrint was to download firmware, which I did. Unfortunately, it still did not work. After digging around online a bit more, it appears that it does not work with the latest Mac OS X 10.7. This is simply inexcusable since nowhere in the description does it mention this.I'm returning it and will find a newer printer that does work with my Mac.

HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer (CE657A#BGJ)I have easily set up wireless HP printers on my Mac network in the past so when I purchased this product I assumed my experience would be similar. I was sorely disappointed and would recommend if you do not own a computer with a windows operating system to set it up wirelessly you avoid this printer like the plague.

I had an old (10 or 12 years) HP laser printer, forget the model number. Its feeder got worse and worse. The paper tray was the kind you have to pull out, load the paper, slide the tray back in. First it wouldn't feed adhesive labels, finally it wouldn't feed even plain paper, so I decided to replace it.This is one of the best buys I ever made. You feed the sheets in from the front, no tray to hassle with. It warms up immediately, and speed is very impressive for a home machine. Most of the time I'm only printing two or three or four pages at a time, and they're out in a few seconds. It also does great with the adhesive mailing labels. I recently did a job with 246 sheets of labels, no problems. I could only put in about 60 at a time, but that was not a problem, since experience has taught that as soon as you load up a printer and walk away, something goes wrong. By the way, the tray holds quite a bit more than 60 sheets of plain paper.My only complaint is that the toner and temporary cartridge it supposedly shipped with didn't print at all. Fortunately, I had ordered a regular cartridge at the same time, and once I put that in, the printer has been cranking the pages out (it's about four months old now).

It simply is impossible to connect wirelessly if you have a Mac with 10.7 OS. I've been through two printers, nine hours with tech support, incredible frustration, and no success. Having sold a major company to HP in 2002, it makes this review even more painful for me to write. I ended up throwing my last HP LaserJet Pro P1102w into the trash, writing off the experience, and buying a Canon wireless printer -- one that installed simply and has worked perfectly.

This is my second HP printer I have purchased this year. The other purchase was an HP 8500e All in One printer. And now, this one. I have to say that wireless technology is an absolute wonderful thing.The printer was so easy to set up that I was more surprised than anything. Took me about 5 minutes to unpack, get toner/drum unpacked and ready, put it on my desk, and get it ready to print! The software installation was easy as well. But I learned that although you don't need the CD for install, I strongly recommend you install the software from the CD so you won't have any issues. I did try it without the CD and it found the printer but the wireless part was not so good. I unloaded the software, reloaded the software, only this time using the CD, and bingo! It worked. I was up and running in less than 15 minutes.The wireless part is by far the best thing I could have ever imagined. I have a laptop that I work from almost anywhere in my home and print. It is so cool. I tried printing from the internet (simulating being elsewhere in the city) and it worked like a charm. Wow. No issues to report, as yet.The starter toner it comes with expects to print a few hundred pages and so far I have printed about 140 with no problems and crystal clear print. This is a great printer!I recommend it only if you don't mind not having to print color and only need b&w. I use it mostly for Word and Excel documents where I don't need (or care for) color. This is great for students as well, small foot print that takes little space on a desk and will probably cost far less in the long run. Thumbs up!

I own it. exactly what I want. small, simple, nicely designed device. I print over WiFi with my mac. no bizarre scanners or photo this and that tacked onto the thing.The only thing that took a while for me to understand: When you have some kind of process that stops this printer (either an out-of-paper alert OR the stop that happens when you tell it to print two-sided and therefore it halts to ask you to take what's been printed already and insert into the feeder again) -- then you don't have a button that tells it to get started again after you've done your step. INSTEAD, you just open the top of the printer and close it again. That gets the whole printer going again seamlessly. It's a bit odd. and maybe that odd step is specific to my Mac and not typical for other users. But there is is. Open the top, shut the top. and it resumes its thing.

This is a great printer. I did not want any color since I don't print much so this being a laser put an end to the never ending purchase of ink. The printer is fast & no smudges. Not very big either so I can put it on top of my desk. I bought an HP product because I like their durability.

This is a great little printer with excellent print quality and a small size. Since it's wireless and tiny you can place it in many places you might not have considered for a printer. Ours is inside an end table in our living room. The onboard embedded web server is great for monitoring the printer and checking toner life, and drivers are available for most platforms. If you use Windows, HP actually embeds the drivers into an onboard memory chip, making them immediately available as soon as you connect a USB cable. Very slick, and it works.For the Mac however, it's not so simple. For some reason HP couldn't find room in the onboard memory for a Mac driver, so you have to download it or install from the CD. The real issue with this printer however is the wireless network setup. Since you can't just connect an ethernet cable to it, and since the Mac driver cannot configure the network print server over USB, you are left with the dubious option of connecting to the printer in ad-hoc mode, connecting to the embedded web server, configuring the printer for use on your wireless network, restart the printer, and pray it works. If not you have to reset it to defaults and start over. Took me a couple of tries, and I do this stuff for a living. To be fair once it is configured it works great.While I understand HP's desire to keep this printer at a low price point with Wi-Fi functionality, I would gladly have paid a bit more for Ethernet and WiFi, or a more full-featured driver.Edit 8-21-2011:HP has released a firmware update for this printer that seems to address many of the wireless installation issues under Mac OS, particularly OS X 10.7 Lion. I couldn't get Lion to even see this printer on my network. After the firmware update, OS X finds the printer via Bonjour and offers to find and install drivers. The firmware is dated 2011-06-09 and is version 20110512, and even has a Mac OS installer. Bravo to HP for resolving these issues.

I purchased this for the mac so the set up was not so automatic but I found the HP customer service to be the best. It does make a difference who you get on the other end. as far as there customer service but when I got the right person setup was about ten to fifteen minutes. And support is there for ninety days.I purchased one for my daughters pc and the setup was quick and easy. My wife sends from her pc and I have two macs and an ipad they all work seamlessly with this printer after it is set up. I might mention that the resolution is not the best for photographs but for the money it is great.

We bought this printer last year since my daughter is in college and we needed something better than a deskjet. This has been an awesome printer, works everytime, was easy to set up with our network and all three laptops in the house can print to it!! I am just buying my first refill of ink for it after many pages have been printed for school and other things, I am very pleased with this printer and would say you can't go wrong purchasing this model.
