This printer is constantly forgetting that it is on a network. When connected to a pc via USB it does not get recognized even though all the drivers are installed. troubleshooting does not correct the problem. It often says error printing due to print job blocking the que but there are no print jobs in the que. This printer is without a doubt the worst printer I have used in many years. I do not believe that a printers drivers should need to be reinstalled on a weekly basis. I feel like throwing this thing off a cliff. Oh yeah the HP videos on how to install are also worthless because they do not account for any complications especially those that are constantly happening with this thing. There solution: reinstall every time youi want to use it. THIS PRINTER SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have Lion do not buy.Their ire is no downloadable driver from HP. You only find the printer doesn't work for this reason after wasting an hour trying to get it to work.

HP seems to make the best laser printers. I have tried other brands at the office but it is HP that seems to last a long time with the least amount of jambs.

Just as I said, it's a nice little printer. Quality of printing is very good, the ink cartridge lasted about 9 months (that's printing up 5-10 sheets of paper a day, 5 days a week). Every once in awhile it will not turn in with the rest of the computer, which is weird, but easily fixed.

This is generally a good product at a good price. The installation for a wireless connection was not possible on the first printer that I received and cost me a number of hours and headaches. After shipping it back and very promptly receiving a replacement, the replacement model had a very pain free installation as it should. So the first printer must have had some type of defect. Return and shipping of replacement were excellent.The description indicating printing on both sides refers to a manual switching of the paper and is not automatic. This was a disappointment.

Others have reviewed the printer itself (which is fantastic--incredibly lightweight and small, taking up minimal space on the desk and with good graphics as well), but I wanted to specifically help those Mac users who may be having trouble setting up the wireless printer. To set up the printer, use the CD while the USB cable is connected. Once the printer is installed, you then have to set up the printer to print wirelessly. I have been using HP printers forever. So when my HP LaserJet 1012 finally died then I had to replace it with another black and white laser printer. Luckily, technology has advanced greatly since then and this product has wireless capability for other computers to print connected via your internet router. That is such a neat technology.

I've owned several HP printers over the years (and still do), and this one met my expectations.My only complaint would be the difficulty in figuring out how to do the wifi install on my Apple Mac network.I had to go to the HP support site and do some research to figure it out.The manual seemed to be more focused on Windows installations.

This printer works great-- when it's connected to the computer by a USB cable. I have a macintosh and I don't believe I have enough technological savvy to get it working wirelessly-- which is why I really wanted it to begin with. Oh, and it doesn't come with any hard copy directions of how to get it operational. So, in reality, it is just a nice, personal cable printer with wires.

I have been most pleased with this product. It is fast and virtually installs itself. Plugged it in...ran the software and began using it with no problems ever since. It does exactly what I need it to do. Perfect solution if you need a printer that uses MICR toner for checks at a great price. It also works great on shipping labels.

My last printer was an HP 1018. When I bought a new computer I couldn't get the printer recognized and HP wouldn't provide a driver as they no longer support it. Bummer and sick on the part of HP. I paid $250+ for that printer and that was on Amazon. When I saw this printer for $99 (now $89), I grabbed it as I really needed a printer quickly. The only difference between this printer and the 1018, is that this one is black and the case is made out of a lighter material. Other than that it works the same and gives results as good as the 1018. As a matter of fact this one is WiFi capable and has more features. I love it. It also saves power and puts itself in sleep mode like a monitor.

No wireless connection most of the time!Pros: small, fast when it prints, good quality printsCons: absolutely unreliable wireless printing, low page count on toner cartridgesThe majority of the time it will not connect via wireless, despite being 3 feet away, having the correct drivers, latest software, following connection directions to the letter, etc. (Mac, OS 10.6) This makes it a USELESS WIRELESS printer, IMHO. If you plan to connect it directly, it works well, has sharp clean text, and is fast. RECOMMENDATION: Consider another printer if you want RELIABLE wireless printing.Second problem: you'll only get ~800-1000 good prints out of a cartridge, despite rating at 1600 pages. Full price toner cartridge is $60+ although you can find refills at $35. RECOMMENDATION: check cartridge prices online before you buy, and factor in the reduced page count in the total cost.

I set it up, plugged it in, put a printer cartridge in it, and it started printing immediately. I have had no problem with it, and was pleaed with the performance and easiness fo the unit.

I only use this printer occasionally at home, for convenience. The quality of the print is excellent. The printer set up quickly (used the same power cord and USB cable as the last printer) and the software loaded easily from the CD. The printer is fairly new so I don't have a long history with HP (hence 4 of 5 stars) however the combo of drum and ink cartridge was highly recommended by several techs I know.

We were looking to save on ink jet cartridges since we mainly print black and white. This printer was extremely easy to set up, even the wireless printing function. Being able to print from anywhere in the house is a great feature. We print from two laptops. It shuts itself down to save energy but fires right up when we want to print. We are very happy with it so far.

As a disclaimer, I am not very tech savvy.I have owned this machine for a day, so my review will be based from that very short amount of time. I purchased this from a stand alone retailer, Amazon is slightly less expensive price wise.This machine was very easy to set up, and a very short (~1ft) USB cable was included for the set up. All that was required was plugging the machine into the computer and let it do its thing. I personally thought the set up rather slow because of the load time but probably speedier than using the included set up disc. I have it set up to print wirelessly and its very easy, and much quicker than I had anticipated. The machine has a very small footprint when the paper tray is folded back, and is an attractive glossy black.I deducted one star because I ran into problems trying to hook up another computer to print wirelessly, directions were not included on the quick start guide and I couldn't get it to work with the included disc without having the lug the thing over to the other computer and plugging it in with the USB cable. Luckily my roommate had read the manual... and got it to print off the needed instructions from the machine to set it up on both. Another problem I seem to be having with it is that once it goes into is "energy saving" mode and I try to print it seems that I have to go walk over to the machine to turn it back on, its not a huge deal but I'm hoping there is a setting somewhere on it so I can change that.Overall, I like it. Its small, easy to use, and I have gotten out of the inkjet printer ink racket (for now), all good things.

I bought this printer on sale at Best Buy for $99, which I think was a good deal. The printer works quickly and is good quality - very precise. I was very happy with the wireless network capability, and it was very easy to set up. I do regret, however, not buying a printer with color capabilities.I was very satisfied with this printer until I needed to purchase a replacement cartridge, which I found out costs $75. I was shocked that a cartridge (which doesn't last very long) costs nearly as much as the printer itself. My old cartridges, although not for a laser printer, were only $30 so this was a disappointment. Keep this in mind when purchasing this printer!

I'm currently a college student, and I've had the printer for about 1.5 years now. I have absolutely no problems with it, except for the fact that I can't seem to set up the wireless printing. I use a PC, and my roommate, who shares the printer with me, uses a Mac -- I had the easier set up, but the printer came with an installation CD for Macs, so after a bit of struggling, she also got it to print from her laptop. The print quality is great, the pages print really quickly, and the printer does not take up much space at all. It makes some noise while printing, though, so I try not to print when my roommate is sleeping. I'd definitely recommend this product -- it's a great buy for a reasonable price, a deal most college students are looking for!

I bought a refurbished one for $32 and it only took a day to get to my home. Since it didn't come with a print cartridge, I ordered a compatible cartridge which worked perfectly. Total price for both was $60.00 delivered. It has the auto set up which made the installation easy. It is very fast and not too noisy. I love this printer and recommend it to anyone.

On Macs: It's a know issue with the driver that manual duplex does not work. Once you print out the first side, the computer asks you to put it back in and says press 'go' for the second side. You press the 'go' button and nothing happens. Since the actual printer doesn't have a go button (!) it just won't work.Like wise, if you run out of paper, you have to begin your job from the beginning. It will not continue where you left off.This is a big problem if you want to print booklets or want to manual duplex. Mac users, look for a better alternative.

Overall, this was a very good printer. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the factory sent us only a 1/4 full toner cartridge with this printer, so after already paying out a bunch of money for it, we now have to order another cartridge and we've only used it 5 times. Maybe that's a standard thing, but it's pretty annoying. the printer works great and is user friendly.

I bought this printer to replace a similar HP 1012, which HP apparently made obsolete by not upgrading the drivers to Windows 7, thus forcing me and everyone else who owns a 1010 series and upgraded to Win 7 to buy a new printer. That's Corporate America for you. This is a good black-and-white printer overall. The WiFi capability makes it convenient for a home network. I must load the paper firmly into the tray, however, or it occasionally doesn't pick up cleanly and thus prints pages at a slight angle. In hindsight I wish I had spent a bit more for a color laser printer made by a less greedy corporation.

I bought this to replace an old HPLJ1100. The '1102 produces good quality print and is very fast over a WiFi connection. Setup is easy. Web based config and maintenance is well designed. Although the stated life of the toner cartridges is rather modest, the replacements aren't that expensive. Overall, a very good value for the money.

I just purchased this printer for my dorm room and my family also purchased one for our house. It was very easy to set up! All you have to do is take everything out of the box, plug it in, and then install the driver. I was surprised at how easy it was to connect multiple laptops via the wireless connection. I would highly recommend this printer to anyone! It comes with a starter ink cartridge and I have printed about 75 pages and it still has ink!

I've owned almost more Hewlett-Packard personal laser printers than I can remember, at least three or four in the past twenty years, and the print quality has always been excellent. Same holds true with the HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer (CE657A#BGJ). It also features the same small footprint as the 4L and its progeny, and the same simple operation. But this P1102w adds a revolutionary twist: It's wireless. No wires between your computer and the printer, none at all. This shook me up a bit, didn't seem right ... but one print job and I was convinced. We decided to place the printer across the room on a bookshelf, works great. And at this price, you can't argue.The software was a tad complicated to install, I would recommend the simple driver installation as opposed to the full suite of features. Of course HP laser printers use Canon engines, always have. That's not something they advertise ... and remember this is a B & W printer, so it's limited in that respect. But for what it is, this P1102w upholds and expands on the HP tradition of personal laser printers.

I have purchased quite a few HP printers in the past because of HP's reputation of good quality. This printer is no exception either. Although, this is the first time that I am dealing with a wireless printer. It has a quick response when I ask to print a document. I am not sorry in the least for purchasing it and would recommend it to my friends.

The wireless set-up worked only briefly and then stopped at which point I had to attach it to my lap top via USB to print. Before the starter cartridge even ran out the printer stopped working properly. It kept telling me it was the printer and wasted a $60 cartridge too. If I could give it no stars I would. HP is junk and their customer service is pretty much non-existent.

When I pulled this printer from the box I realized that I was going to have to configure the wireless through some sort of configuration program. This seemed like a hassle, but the HP setup program was super slick. I was amazed and somewhat disturbed when the printer was connected to my wireless network even though I had provided no network encryption information. I sat confused for a minute or so before realizing that the software had pulled all the necessary information from the Windows registry and automatically configured the printer. I have no idea if it is this slick in other operation systems, but the HP engineers have taken advantage of the security weaknesses in Windows XP to great effect. I'm sure in the newer Windows versions or Mac OS X it can do the same thing with your permission.Non-techinical users shouldn't be concerned about the setup process for the wireless networking, it was shockingly easy.

When ordering this printer, just go ahead and order a longer USB cable. It comes with a puny 2' cable and I've had to shuffle the layout on my desk while I order a longer cable. Set up was easy once I deciphered the goofy instructions. Seems to be a fine little printer that will meet my limited needs and get me out of the ink cartridge nightmare I had with my Canon Inkjet printer. Again...go ahead and order additional cable...you'll need it.

I am very happy with my HP Laser printer. The price makes it so affordable that it is perfect for a family printer. We switched from an ink jet printer because we were buying at least one new cartridge every month. I have found HP to be a reliable printer that lasts over the long haul.

I am very pleased with this printer. It is so small that it fits into a book shelf near my PC, it looks okay, it was cheap, and the print quality and speed are at least as good as the much bigger und much more expensive older-generation HP Laserjet I have in my office. The setup for wireless printing from my Windows 7 system was easy: Turn the printer on and connect it to the PC using the included USB cable. The PC will identify it and launch an HP setup program automatically and search for your wireless router. You will be asked to enter the network password, then you have to disconnect the USB cable, and after a total time of two minutes or so you are ready to go. The printer goes into standby mode after a short time, but it wakes up automatically when you print something (and begins to print after just a few seconds), and this is still working without problems after unplugging the printer from the power outlet for a few minutes (when I put it to its final location) and after rebooting the PC a few times. So far I am 100% satisfied.

I bought this yesterday and have already used it to print well over 100 pages of double sided text. Thus far, I'm satisfied.Positives:- Easy installation; very few steps and very clearly explained in brief instruction manual- Product is well packaged and it seems to be a fairly study design- It runs quietly and prints quickly- I haven't had any significant problems connecting to my wireless network or printingI wouldn't give it any negatives, but be aware of one quirk with the software...When you do double-sided printing, it is manual. This means that you print the even numbered pages, then remove the stack and place it back into the tray. At this point, you are supposed to press a "continue" button in a dialogue box that pops up on your screen. The problem is that if you attempt to do any work in another window, then that dialogue box disappears and you cannot press the continue button. There is no way to get it to reappear that I am aware of. It just disappears and you are left with a stack of even-numbered pages. The dialogue box will also disappear whether you do anything or not if the printer is on standby when you send the print job. So, if you want to print double-sided, make sure to turn it on (not standby) first. Otherwise, you'll again have a stack of even-numbered pages.

I like this printer for the built in wirless networking capability. However the toner cartridge it uses has less print capacity than my old HP Laserjet 1100 (92A) which was rated at 2500 pages. The current one 85A is rated only at 1600 pages. Problem is the cartridges cost about the same, therefor the cost per page is going up.Overall I still like the small foot print and the fact that it is not that noisy. Quiet for home use.

This printer was easy to set up & has worked great for me so far. It prints quickly & everything works fine. One problem I have encountered if purchasing a replacement printer cartridge. Our two regular office supply companies have said they were out or backordered. One place told me "They are on allocation from HP and have been trickling in to us". That was a month ago & I still have not been able to get a replacement printer catridge for this printer. You might want to make sure you will be able to get a replacement cartridge before you purchase.

This was delivered within a couple of days. I bought it to use on a computer that is not connected to the internet so installed it using the CD that was included. It was very easy -- everything you need is included. Makes great copies and if you don't need color copies this would be a great alternative to ink jet printers. Couldn't be more pleased.

I picked this printer up at Staples today for $99, a good amount less than Amazon's selling it for.The printer is pleasing to the eye, sleek and black, low profile, and very attractive.As far as printing power goes, the performance is comparable to any other low cost laser jet on the market. I like that it shuts off and turns back on automatically when you print to conserve energy (plus no annoying blinking lights when you're not using it). Honestly, I stick with laser jets because I do a lot of printing for school and I like to highlight. Try doing that with an ink jet and see how quickly your letters smudge and your highlighters turn black...Setting up printers to work wirelessly on a Mac is usually a pretty involved process and this printer is no exception. The instructions included explain wireless setup for a PC but do NOT go into any useful detail about Macs.Luckily, I found a YouTube video that detailed step-by-step how to set the printer up wirelessly on a Mac. If it wasn't for the video, setup would have taken me a lot longer. I use a laptop, so wireless printing for me is a must.You can find the video here:[...]

Love the little printer. Hope to get a lot of use out of it and not have ink drying up like that of an inkjet printer. Hook up was easy. I use the usb hook up and not wireless. Will attempt wireless at a later date.

I had an HP laserjet before - it was a reliable printer for 12 years. I am very pleased with the 1102 - it is fast, good print quality and easy to use. I am extremely satisfied with it's print qualities, however I have difficulties setting up the wireless part, especially with my Mac. But still, I am very satisfied with the printer.
