Our company is working on a solution for our field techs to be able to print invoices and such from their iPhones and iPads. Apple listed this printer an AirPrint compatible device, so I purchased one since it was the cheapest I could find for a laser printer. When I got the printer up and running, the iPad could not detect the device. After some Internet research, I learned I needed to install the firmware update to allow that. That worked and we were off and printing in no time.I then realized that the device was working through my wifi router and that once I took it out to the vehicle and away from my wifi network, then we lose connectivity. Fortunately, the printer can be placed into Adhoc mode, creating it's own wifi network. After doing that and configuring my iPhone and iPad to connect to the printer's wifi connection, I was able to detect the printer and print to it. One side note, if you find yourself going with the adhoc mode and connecting to it from a iPhone/iPad, be sure and turn on the Auto-Join feature in the iPhone/Ipad wifi connection settings so that it auto-connects to the device each time you get back to it).So, after all of this, it works, but not as smoothly as I would like. After powering up the printer, it can take a while (minutes) for the iPhone/iPad to start seeing the printer again. We are still in the process of testing this solution so time will tell how well this printer will work in a vehicle. I can say that while it was in our office connected to our wifi network, it worked very well for printing from PC's and iDevices wirelessly. For an inverter to power this printer in a vehicle, we used the Duracell 813-0807 800 Watt DC to AC Digital Power Inverter, which provided more than enough watts to power this laser printer. I believe you will need to wire the inverter directly to your car battery though. The power output is diminished when you try and use a cigarette lighter adapter (which is not included with the inverter anyway). This inverter has a digital readout to show how much power is being used and we never see it go over 650 watts when the printer is printing. One final note, the printer is factory set to shutoff after 5 minutes of inactivity, which is great when the printer is connected to a car battery. Even though it's "off" it is still listening and will power up when a print job is sent to it. Pretty cool.I purchased both these products through Amazon.

Printing quality-wise, this is a great printer up to par to the rest of the products from HP. It's pretty fast for a home/small office setting and works great over the USB. When it comes to wireless, well... when it works it works great, but if this thing has any flaws it's in the wireless operation department. Once I set it up it works great for a while, but sometimes it just stops to co-operate so I have to set up the wireless function again (the working period can last from a couple of weeks to months). It also has trouble doing manual duplex wirelessly, at least with my configuration (32 bit Vista + Office 2007) in so much that in stead of waiting for me to put the printed out material back in the tray for manual duplex it just prints everything single sided at once. The manual duplex option works fine over USB though.

I don't really print that often lately. Since I am almost always by a computer and always by a handheld device, the need to print is not what it used to be. However, sometimes you really do need a hardcopy. For the last year or two, I have been winging it printing at work or at a friend's/family member's house. Despite how little I ever need a hardcopy, this is really suboptimal.I have an older HP laserjet that was donated to me. I haven't used it is quite some time, though I believe it still works. However, it needs a new toner cartridge and only has a centronics port. I have had "getting a network adapter for it soon" on my list forever now. Basically, each time I print something it gets re-added, but then forgotten.Recently, I had a something important to print, and discovered neither of my current computers actually has a Centronics port. A few weeks prior, I was also almost burned by not being able to print hockey tickets (at the last minute). Considering the cost of toner and the network adapter, I went down to a local retailer.I didn't do much research on this (rare). I surveyed what they had and picked it. I wanted something reliable (even with infrequent use), easy to set up and use, with no frills, but good output quality. Wireless is a big plus (although I think they all have that now). Inkjets are certainly out -- they are cheaper and since I don't print a lot you might think the lower capacity wouldn't matter, but this is not true. Ink dries out, toner does not. I don't really care about color (and if I need it, the "bumming off a friend's printer" model is fine for this).I get it home, and this is one of the easiest peripherals I have ever set up. No CD is needed, you just plug it in and go. All the drivers are stored IN the printer. On a side note, this is an idea I have had for a while, and I think it is great. There is a CD in case that doesn't work. I entered the wireless password, unplugged the USB cable, and it just worked, simple as that. I repeated the process with my laptop, and same results. It is INCREDIBLY fast. It must sit in hot standby or something; you hit print and it comes on and starts printing within 1-3 seconds. It prints at like 19 ppm or something, which IIRC was fast even for large office printers just a few short years ago. Really a good buy so far.

Great little powerhouse with small office footprint and cheap generic catridges. I've been using this for about a year and works great on all computers around the house ranging from Windows 7, Vista, and XP. I do eBay as a side hobby printing tons of labels the stats sheet show I've printed over 4,000 sheets already with 2 paper jams due to the sticky label paper (that I easily fixed). I had a Samsung laser previously but the Samsungs are larger and the ink isn't as cheap. If you can do a web search, you'll easily find generic HP cartridges just a little more than ten bucks each.Just got a Macbook Air with OS X Lion recently and initially had problems connecting to the printer. The fix is to upgrade the printer firmware. Any firmware version September 2011 (or later) should resolve the problem. After googling the name of this printer and FIRMWARE, I was able to locate the printer firmware from HP's site and perform a wireless update. Don't be intimidated by "firmware" and "wireless update" because this is a very simple process requiring just a few clicks of the mouse. After that, I was able to connect to the printer with no fancy hoops as explained previously for Leopard users.Edit: August 24, 2012. Stats page now reads 7,593 pages printed. Recently, the printer was having problems pulling in thicker label paper into the feeder. Looked on HP.COM and found that I just needed to wipe down the rubber piece (that pulls paper) with a swab of alcohol. That fixed it and now it's back to printing again like usual.Edit: January 6, 2013. Stats page now reads 8,614 pages printed. In August, got a Brother Ink Jet MFC-J435W for my workhorse, for the cheap ink refill cartridges that I can return to the office stores for credit & nearly free printing. The Brother is a false economy though, lots of clogging and cleaning of the ink jet heads, lots of jams, most importantly lots of time wasted. Wish I never got it, but I guess it's a learning experience. The HP P1102w just keeps chugging along ever so reliably for no-nonsense printing.

I ordered the HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer (CE657A#BGJ) for our office. The primary users of this are our company owner and the employee who assists him with billing. The purpose of this printer was to be able to have one closer to her desk so she doesn't have to walk across the building every time she prints an invoice, and also to prevent both of their print jobs from being held up by print jobs by the rest of the team upstairs. This little printer does just the trick. It is nice an small, so it fits well in the limited space we have in the reception area, but it is powerful enough it prints all of their documents quickly and well.Set up was easy. The software walks you through configuring it for your wireless network, and I had no issues installing it on the Windows PCs we needed it on. After the printer is configured, users can easily install the printer on their desktops by pointing their web browser to the IP address for the printer, and using the install wizard there. The boss also has a MAC computer and an iPad and has been able to configure both to print to this printer using Airprint. The Airprint functionality required a firmware update for the printer after I received it, but the firmware was easy and quick to install. Airprint was an unexpected bonus - we didn't even realize the printer did this until it arrived and I read the manual. The boss was so tickled by this feature that he had me find him a good multifunction HP printer that also had this functionality and he bought that for his home. The HP LaserJet Pro P1102w printer has been a good purchase for our office, and prints documents very well. I highly recommend it.

Got this in January 2011 and have used it so lightly that the original starter toner cartridge is still in it. It worked great and was the perfect wireless printer, until 2 months ago when HP pushed out a firmware update. I installed it, and ever since then the printer is toast. It won't stay connected to the wireless, even when I assigned it a static address, and will not connect to the computer with any reliability except when hooked up via USB (and thereby defeating the purpose of a wireless printer). It will also no longer wake from sleep mode. The best I've had is about 2 weeks of printing between having to uninstall and reinstall it - and if I shut the computer down, I have to start from scratch again.I finally broke down and called HP support and they told me that because it was out of warranty, I'd have to pay $24.99 for service. I'm not about to sink that much more money into a $90 printer that doesn't work right because of their firmware update - and I'm convinced this is the problem, since it worked find before the update, to the day. A Google search shows that plenty of other people are having similar problems with connections and faulty wireless radios. I've trusted HP for 15 years of printing, but after today I'm done with them.Buy this printer at your own risk - seems it generally works well for the first year or so, but then craps out.

After reading a lot of comparison reviews, mostly on Amazon.com, I finally settled on this HP. Previously I had been using an HP 1012 which suddenly failed. The price was very good and delivery was quick, as usual. My problems began almost immediately. My computer is running Windows 7 64bit and I have a wireless router to which my computer is connected via a USB cable. I did not want to run the printer as a wireless unit. The installation is a bit too automatic. I like to be involved in the decisions the installation software is making. At any rate, after printing a couple of test pages satisfactorily it stopped printing but began looking for a wireless connection until it timed out. At last I gave up trying things and called tech support. This part is good. I reached a live person immediately. The young man was on top his his game and was very courteous. I allowed him to run my computer remotely and together we worked on the problem for perhaps an hour and a half. In the end he had to delete all traces of the previous installation and begin new. This time we got the printer to work and it has worked flawlessly ever since. I give customer support high marks but the installation should not have been this difficult. It cost HP a lot of money to get me up and running. The remaining question is durability. I don't detect that it is cheaply made. It is much faster than the HP 1012 and I like being able to set the print density using software. However, other users report early problems so I am hoping that I don't run into that.

I just love this little guy. Small foot print, prints super fast, works flawlessly with my Ipad and PC too. The hpeprint has a lot of potential. This printer "wakes" very quickly, and its already printed 4 or 5 pages before my inkjet has even started printing its first page. Setup was almost fool proof, I did hit a little snag while setting up at the HP ePrintCenter feature. I'm going to post my solution that I used on my PC in hopes that it will help the next person. This was on a Windows PC w/ XP.HP asks you: "When you set up your Web-connected printer, you will print out instructions that will include a printer code".I found NO printer code on my print out.HP then asks you to: "Enter Printer Code" and gives instructions on how to find it. Since I had originally done a USB install and not a wireless install those instructions couldnt apply to my printer.I had printed out the SELF TEST / DEVICE CONFIGURATION as instructed by HP. Since there was NOTHING called PRODUCT IP ADDRESS on that sheet of paper. Instead, what you can do is: Find the line called IPv4 Address on the Self Test/Device Configuration Paper. Open a new Internet Explorer (or browser window of your choice) and type in the IPv4 address. Mine looked similar to this 123.456.7.89 once that browser window has opened. You'll see a group of tabs at the top. Click the one that says "Networking". HOST NAME is what you're looking for. The next tab is called HP Web Services, and it will allow you to "turn on" the Remote Web Services. You'll then take that HOST NAME back to the HP ePrintCenter and register with it.Copy and Paste that into the "Enter Printer Code" line back on the HP ePrintCenter, and it gets a little easier from there.

HP LaserJet Pro P1102 This printer printed very well until I installed Mountain Lion on my Mac. Since then, the wireless has ceased to function and there is no website, that I can find, that will give me any assistance, certainly not HP. I've had an expert download new updates; reinstalled soft wear; and basically done everything we can find to do. Still will not connect to the router. The ethernet cord hookup works well and i've given up on trying to fix it.

I bought this as our main black and white printer for home as a I am sick to death of the expense of the Lexmark inkjet color all-in-one that we currently use, mainly for text. That can now be relegated (optimized?) for color printing only.I have a similar wired HP1006 printer at work, so I already suspected that this would be a great printer with the advantage of wifi connectivity. I was not disappointed.Set-up was very easy. Simply unpack the printer, plug into the AC supply and then use the USB cable supplied to connect to your PC for a one-time installation. Choose the custom install options if you don't want to have the usual HP "customer bloatware" installed too (just uncheck the box on the next screen, it's teh only "custom" option HP allows!). Follow the prompts and select the "wireless" connectivity options. Unplug the USB cable and store it away. Enter your WEP/WPA key for your home network when prompted and hey presto, you're good to go. Whole set up took under 10 minutes on a WinXP machine.Adding other laptops was easy - just use the install disk. No need to use the USB cable at this point, again use custom install to disable the HP bloatware being added, and select the option that states "I want to print from a printer already configured on wifi". Takes under 10 minutes on a Vista machine.I will try adding a Win7 laptop tomorrow, but do not anticipate any issues. The wifi signal seems pretty good and easily able to send files quickly from the ground floor of the house to the second floor, with no drop.Summary of features:* Printing is fairly fast and the machine wakes up from its eco-sleep mode pretty rapidly.* Duplex printing is manual, but I am used to that with the HP1006.* There is a manual feed tray above the main tray.* Maximum paper width is 8.5 inches.A highly recommended printer.

Arrived boxed, styrofoamed, taped, etc. Once i got down to printer, there was a two page drawing of how to insert the printer cartridge. No explanation, no copy, nothing, just hard to view illustrations (sixteen in all.) Inside, instruction book was not much better with one line sentences and more drawings. Guess this is to cover all their world-wide customers! Well, I would have appreciated more in English rather than drawings. I still have not got this printer working as the light keeps flashing saying paper is jammed, door is not shut, etc. I haven't even printed yet. There is a CD included and once again it reiterates everything above with pictures and one line sentences. I tried calling at 3:30pm Monday, PDT. They were in mid-west and closed at 5pm their time. What the heck? HP is a big company and their products are expensive. They are cutting every angle. Too late for me to return item. Guess it goes on Craigslist....sigh. There is an Office Depot 6 blocks from me. Would have been easier with customer service for product that I don't get from Amazon.HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer (CE657A#BGJ)

It seems that today when you want a nice simple printer to run off a document or two in old fashioned black and white, but with laser sharpness, your choices include every possible multi-function that man can devise. Goodness me! I didn't need a FAX machine -- I already have one. I didn't need a scanner, I have one of those too -- and a really good one. I didn't need a copier, my scanner takes care of that. All I wanted was a simple, reliable, affordable laser printer. HP has been making laser printers for quite a while, and seems to have got the hang of that pretty well by now. This little jewel is the main work-horse in my home office, but the quality doesn't waver, and the reliability doesn'e fail. Highly reccommended.

EDIT 05.03.12I finally found the time to sit down and try to get this thing to work with OSX Lion. It took some tinkering, but it is now properly installed on one of my Lion machines, prints via wireless and Airprint, and is capable of printing via HP iPhone app, eprintcenter.com (email) and Google Cloud Print. Considering it's been a glorified paperweight for 6 months now I'd say that's pretty good. My review is again granted 4 star status.---EDIT 11.29.11I CANNOT recommend this printer to Mac owners - it is not compatible with OSX Lion. See my comment on this review. The printer itself is fine (if you use nothing newer than Leopard/Snow Leopard or a PC). Original review is below.---Full credit goes to the uber-helpful R. Ruiz for the detailed instructions on how to install for Snow Leopard (10.6). I wanted to clarify a couple steps that seem to be different for Leopard users, then I figured I might as well just re-post the whole dang thing. Also it doesn't mention the actual installation CD, which is actually the first step.1) Open box and separate printer from accessories, styrofoam, plastic, tape, plastic, more tape, more styrofoam, more plastic, etc.2) Plug printer in and turn on.3) Connect USB/Fireware cable from printer to computer.4) Insert Installation CD and install. When finished it will pop up with a window asking you to choose Network or USB printer. Obviously, click the radio button for USB, since that's the only option.5) Go to the Apple icon in top left corner of your desktop - then System Preferences - Print & Fax.6) Double-click the HP LaserJet Professional P1102w in the sidebar on left.7) Click the Utility icon in the top right of the window that appears (printer must be connected via USB for this to work).8) Click HTML Config at bottom left.9) Click the Networking tab at top.10) Click Wireless in left sidebar.11) Under Communication Mode select Infrastructure.12) Type in your wireless network name under Current Network Name (SSID).13) Under Authentication choose your Security Mode. If WEP, choose the correct Input Key and enter the password under WEP Key 1. If WPA, just enter password.14) Click Apply at bottom right. It will confirm - then close out of this window.15) Go back to the System Preferences Print & Fax window. Select the HP LaserJet Professional P1102w in the sidebar at left. Click the minus button underneath to delete.16) Click the plus button. Under the Default tab select HP LaserJet Professional P1102w - Bonjour (Kind).17) Unplug USB/Firewire cable and print a test page (double-click printer name in sidebar then at top - Printer - Print Test Page).---I don't know how you would figure this out otherwise... This is why I love Amazon.I will post an update with my actual review of the product after I've had time to use it. At 139.00, I expected more. Put the pros are this... Easy installation both USB and wireless. Set up was a breeze. After I installed it, I could then move it anywhere in the house and print to it. The latest update includes ePrint drivers and I was able to print from my android phone... But my iPad devices don't see it. But apple is horrible anyways. Just remember, this is not a color printer, so you can't print pics. Replacement toners by HP are 60 bucks... But you can find generic ones for 20. I'm still considering returning it for a color laser... Just not sure yet. So basically, my rating was based on ease of operation and product expectations. Now that I got it, I might just be looking for more.

I got stuck but went to the setup guide and found out I just needed to go to computer (win 7) and click on the drive from the printer. I usually don't write reviews but this printer has me so irrigated that it definitely deserved a horrible review. To start off the printer is advertized with E-Print and AirPrint capabilities. These are not active out of the box. After some short research I found that you must complete a firmware upgrade to use these functions. This sounds simple enough but instructions are horrible. About mid way through the firmware upgrade (over wireless) the printer looses wireless connection. I would recommend trying the update over USB maybe you will have a better outcome. Because of the loss of connection your computer assumes the firmware upgrade never completed. This is my experience maybe others had a different experience. During the update the printer assumes a different IP address. Not wanting to change the IP of the router and my laptop I figured I would just delete the printer from Printers and reset the printer to factory settings. This seems like a good idea but the printer does not start its auto configuration when you plug it in for the second time. After time consuming research I found that the printer needs to be deleted form add remove programs and then you can run the install and set up the printer again. Then next problem appears when you turn the power off on the printer the wireless never reconnects. After more extensive research I found that the only way to get the printer back is to power cycle the router after the printer is power cycled. The printer wireless light is always solid blue but it will not communicate unless you power cycle the router. This appears to be a glitch in the software update. Just figured I would let you all know and maybe save you some time trouble shooting.

This is a great printer for the cost. The wireless function works flawlessly, and it doesn't need to be turned on (sleep mode is fine) for a computer to print to it. I found it easiest to set up using a USB cable (HP instructions were very clear) and it works great on my wireless network. I have owned it for about two months so can't speak to toner cartridge longevity (comes with a "starter cartridge" that supposedly will print about 700 pages). One disappointment. Being a new printer (released by HP in the fall 2010), I expected it would work on my new IPad using IPad's "airprint feature." But no, it does not work. That I think is Apple's fault; hopefully, next time Apple updates its operating system they will fix that. The ability to print from an IPad was new with Apple's latest operating system (version 4.2.1) so let's hope Apple will talk with the HP people to fix this.Periodically, HP and retailers (including Amazon) have this on sale at [...] or so. I was going to buy it directly from HP for that price, which included free shipping, but I waited too long and the price went up. Then I bought it at a computer store for [...].In short, no regrets other than the IPad issue noted above--but surely a patch will fix that; hopefully not too far in the future.March 12, 2011 Update--Still love this printer. Latest OS version for the IPad is 4.3 released March 11, 2011. This OS was released at the same time as the new IPad2 and it still does not enable printing to this printer from an IPad.July 15, 2011 Update--As a result of a comment sent to me, I learned that by downloading a recent firmware update to this printer, my Ipad now is able to print to this printer using its airprint feature! Thanks Apple and (or) HP for making this fix!July 24, 2011 Update--HP fixed one thing and apparently messed up another. Well yes I can print from my IPad after the firmware update, but a new and troublesome issue arose. On the other computers on my home wireless network, if I print from one of them to this printer--it does not stop--page after page after page and I only wanted a single page! I went to the HP website and it actually noted this as an issue and had a fix for it. You have to change a setting (uncheck bidirectional support on the port page of printer properties) on each computer (not necessary for the IPad--it still works fine) for this issue to get resolved. It worked, but I had to buy a new cartridge since all the toner was used up! I have now lowered my evaluation to four stars.January 25, 2013 Update--Still like this printer. One thing that bothered me has now been corrected. As a result of a recent firmware update from HP, the printer periodically flashes a green light letting you know it is ready to go. Previously, when in the "sleep mode" there was no indication whether the printer would be working when a person sends a print job to it. A nice touch HP!

I needed an inexpensive laser printer for college. I chose the HP because refill cartridges are less expensive and easier to get than Samsung. I've had this printer for about 10 months now, and have yet to replace the toner cartridge. It has yet to break or not perform.I especially like that this printer will print on both sides of a sheet of paper. Yes, you have to manually move the sheets back into the tray, but at this price point, that's to be expected, and is not a problem. Printing on both sides reduces the amount of paper I use and carry. This was overall a great buy.

Got this printer so I could print out my homework. I wanted:- A laser printer. Inkjets, in my experience, are all scams that never work right.- Something that can print on both sides of the paper (some of my case studies are quite long!).- Something wireless because hey, who wants more wires?- Something that the iPad/iPhones could print toThis printer serves these roles quite well, printing much faster than the old HP 4MP that it replaced. It doesn't have all the fancy bells and whistles that the more expensive models do, but for what I use it for it works great. My only real annoyance with this printer is when you do the manual duplex printing you have to go back to your computer and hit "okay" after putting the paper back in the input tray. You can't just put the paper back into the input tray and hit some button on the printer. That said, this thing is far and away better than any ink jet you could get. Yes it is B&W but who cares, if you want to print color photos go to your local WalMart or something... If you need a color document, use the fancy expensive color printer I'm sure your work has, it is probably much nicer than anything you could get at home.

Unless you have AirPrint, there are several sets of instructions. If you Google for instructions, you will get instructions for prior setup. Stick to it, and it works. Reboot often. I do not recommend this printer at all. We have it for a small home office and I set it up totally right. At first, I was very pleased: it printed, I got it on wifi without too much effort and simply by following the instructions. Now, it's day 3, and there are blank runs through all kinds of spots in the toner. I have to shake the cartridge between uses. If I print more than 5 pages at a time, this nonsense starts up. In addition, for no reason at all, the wifi stopped working. I did all of the troubleshooting on HP's website, and nothing worked (I'm pretty good at these things, and believe that if it could be done by an intermediate user, it would have gotten done - that's what makes this a bad printer, because most people can't do so much more). There are other options at this price point. I can't speak for their quality, but I can tell you to avoid this one if you have the option.

I bought this for the limited task of wireless printing via the iPhone/iPad/tablets (I already have other laser printers). While it works initially, you have to reset the router and printer constantly, so the printer can be recognized by your device. What that means is before you print (almost) every time, you will have to go to your router and printer and unplug them, and then plug them back in (router first), to get it to work. As another reviewer stated: it defeats the very purpose of wireless printing. Very annoying.

I own a computer repair business. We have sold nearly 50 of these in the last year. They are incredibly easy to install. Simply plug in the included usb cord and the onboard mass storage device is automatically installed and the driver installation begins immediately. It can easily be configured on your wireless network during the installation. This is even easier if you install first to a computer that is already connected wirelessly to your network. The printing is lightening fast and very economical. The toner is reasonably priced, and produces crisp printing that you generally only see on much higher end machines.Even though it comes with a so-called starter toner cartridge, it lasted forever. The spool up when printing wireless is nearly instantaneous.I can not say enough great things about these very compact, excellently priced units.Out of the 48 we have purchased - we had one that was producing a fuser type artifact on the page. Solid dark vertical line on the middle-left of the page. I received a replacement within 24 hours. Other than this one issue, they have been flawless, and had not one issue. Several of these are in Doctors and Dentists' office, where they are printing 50-200 pages/day.

I bought this to (largely) replace a Canon i860 that I love, it has excellent b&w text quality and and prints amazing color photos. However, when it is not being used, the ink apparently just dries up and blows away to the tune of $40 or more for a set of cartridges. This happens when there is no printing whatsoever (as most of you know, this is common to inkjet printers). The laser concept has huge appeal in this respect and I was not disappointed. It just sits there using no consumables until I actually use it. Imagine that! It prints almost instantly. Text quality is excellent and it even prints very good photos. It appears that several suppliers offer replacement cartridges at a fraction of the price of OEM units and they are mostly reviewed very well. I'm still on my starter toner, so can't comment on them.Advantages:Easy to network via wirelessInitial setup runs from ROM in the printer, so no disk needed (needed for other network devices like laptops)Relatively quiteVery small footprint (it's almost tiny)Cheap consumables, if not using OEM brandDisadvantages:Does not start up automatically when printing via wireless (this may be due to fact that I have missed something, but I don't think so)No others, unless you print large amounts, then input tray may be too smallEnvelope printing can be tricky, but works well when figured out (the special media input tray does not like #10 envelopes, use the main tray narrowed down to hold the envelope)

Just got this printer - we needed a simple printer - nothing fancy. Considered InkJet but for only 30$ more we were able to get the LaserJet which is a huge bonus, imo, because I tend to set coffee mugs down on my papers and the LaserJet toner won't smear. Additionally, if you print envelopes for mailing and it's raining (or they get dropped in a puddle) your printing will stay intact. It claims to be 19/ppm but I think it's faster. I am extremely impatient and I do not find myself waiting for the page to print. The auto-off function is really nice, since I tend to forget I turned it on.I have been involved in running/maintaining office networks for over 20 years and I have to say this was, hands down, the simplest intall EVER. Literally remove the packing materials, plug it into power, attach the usb cable to your printer & after a few clicks (seriously, like 4) you're up & running. LOVE the wireless capability. We are renovating and our office is in a temporary location which means a less than ideal set up for our items and wireless just means 2 less cables for us (2 computers). Love that!!! Less mess!!I have sworn by HP printers since the late 80's (yes, that long) and I've never been disappointed. We have a color HP laser printer that we'll be bringing out when the renovations are done but for now this is perfect!!!! Just want it to print b&w, fairly quickly & not smear. Perfect! It truly took me longer to remove the packaging than it did for me to get it installed & running on our network. Crazy good!!

I've seen many reviews on this printer and they run the range from very low to very high. Since many reviewers don't state what platform they are using, saying the printer doesn't work is useless. In addition, skills vary widely when it comes to setting up computer devices and equipment.I have a dual-boot Windows 7/Mint Linux box that I have attached this printer to via USB. It already has an HP all-in-one attached also via USB. I tried to use this printer wirelessly with the Linux OS, but I couldn't get it done (I think this was because of my lack of skills mostly). Once I attached it via USB it was installed automagically by Linux (times have changed). After some tweaking through Gnome and Samba, my wife's Linux box was able to communicate with the printer wirelessly and print documents. Once I have more time I may fiddle with it some more and try to get it work wirelessly with my computer. For now I am satisfied with the setup. The printer will come out of sleep mode from either computer. It prints fast, it prints well, and I like the idea of the number of sheets per cartridge, which is much better (cost-wise) than the small HP all-in-one. I am very happy with my purchase, and recommend this printer to any individual (not necessarily business) who needs to occasionally print black-only copy. Used as per its intended purpose, it is a great printer.

I was thankful for the earlier reviewer that pointed out HP's youtube video that shows the final step you do on a Mac, after installing the drivers from the CD, to get the computer to print wirelessly to the printer.Since I was prepared with that video ahead of time, I had zero problems following the steps, and I was printing wirelessly within 20 minutes of taking the printer out of the box. It is true that HP should put a URL to that youtube video right in the instructions. So, again, Mac users, do this:(1) First you carry out the normal instructions in the manual to plug the printer into the mac using the USB cable, install the drivers from the CD-ROM, and so forth.(2) when that is done, you go to the quite simple video of instructions at the youtube video, at [...] ... which tell you how to do some configuring to get the wireless working and then to actually remove the first printer icon that had been created with the install and replace it with the one that handles the wireless printing through "bonjour."(3) However, NOTE that in the video instructions, the video shows them choosing "WEP" as the type of network, and choosing the name of their network, etc. The video should make it more clear that at that point you choose the type of wireless network you have (maybe you have WPA or WPA2, like I have) and, of course, you choose the name of YOUR network, don't look for the exact phrase they chose in that step. And Windows Users do this:It is much easier for Windows users, you don't even have to take the CD-ROM out of its case, because the printer has this "Smart Install" feature so that when you connect the printer (turned on) to the computer using USB, it automatically downloads the driver installation from the printer to the computer. And, that installer process directly asks you if you want to configure it to be a wireless printer or a wired printer. Even tells you when to unplug the USB and you're all done.Other thoughts on the printer (relevant to both mac and windows users)-- a previous reviewer complained that the printer turned itself off after five minutes. Actually it is going into a sleep mode, and it will wake itself totally the next time you print something! That is not something to complain about, it is totally cool.-- I view this as a fast printer. pages come right on out. I guess it's "only" 18-19 PPM but that is fast.-- there is a normal paper supply tray, and then there is a separate place to feel paper manually, in case you want to feed an envelope, or some kind of letterhead, or something.-- external design is sharp and professional, I love that boxy "just a laser printer" look compared to the kooky appearance of all-in-ones and inkjets.

We needed a basic laser printer which also supported AirPrint so we could print from "i" devices. The fact that this also supports "Google Cloud Print" and HP printing via email are side bonuses.Output is fast and pretty clean. If I had any negatives, it's that if it flips into power save mode, then it will ignore attempts to print from Google Cloud and AirPrint; it's necessary to turn the printer on and then re-submit the job.

This is a great printer. It is fast and delivers the resolution you need. Also, it does not have ink that dries out like a desk jet printer will. Refill cartridges are expensive just like all printers, but if this printer breaks, you can just order a new one for not much more money than a refill cartridge.

We sell a lot of HP printers. It works pretty well and the wireless is easy to set up and a really nice feature. The unit emits a LOT of heat when printing though and the pages come out curled. I can actually see steam coming out of the top on each print as we are in a humid climate. Maybe its a bad toner cartridge, but its the one included with it and we've seen this issue although not as bad with this model's predecessors. For the money though ($100 is a good price, dont pay much more) if you aren't printing a ton but want better cost per page than an inkjet, its a decent choice.

I was using this as a wireless printer close to my notebook. It did not have much use, and stood around getting dusty. I developed a more important need, for a small footprint printer to put by a workstation in a tight location. I squeezed this diminutive p1102w in a cramped spot, and found I could then easily put labels in the front tray, and run laser labels through it more than once. We use thousand of labels each week, and anything that would save us time making them by having the printer closer to the workstation would be great. Laser labels curl under heat, but the deep wide paper feeder and feeding mechanism of the p1102w handled that better than any of it's bigger color laser printers or multi function inkjets. It has become a big time saver. The speed of printing is very impressive, and quality first rate. I've put the dust cover on the color inkjet, as it's now only used for color photos, backup and faxing. The much bigger beloved hp cp1520w is best use to add some color to labels. Now all of the computers on my office network use the p1102w as default printer because it is fast, cheap on ink, turns off automatically, turns on instantly when it gets a job, convenient, tiny, and a joy to own.

I bought this specifically for all the little things you end up printing for your wedding. I checked to make sure the printer could handle envelopes and it does come with a tray for envelopes. For some reason the toner didn't fuse to my normal, paper envelopes so that some envelopes printed with the letters oddly spaced or looking cracked like an old rub-on transfer letter that wasn't applied right. Like the little tail of the letter "y" would be missing on some envelopes. When I rubbed the envelope to see if the toner had fused, it was clear that the addresses would just rub off in transit. This was a huge headache. I would not trust it with any envelopes again unless I was going to put clear tape over the address to keep it from rubbing away. This printer also can't seem to handle any paper thicker than all purpose printer paper or label pages.UPDATEI've had this printer for about 8 months now and I truly regret buying it. It is a fast printer that doesn't jam but it is not truly a wireless printer and is hard to make work with some routers. It worked ok with our apple router when we connected it to the router with a USB plug. Our new router has ethernet ports only and the printer does not offer that option. So far, I've only gotten one out of three of our computers connected to the printer. Just the one computer took ages to connect and I had to use some magic secret combo of actions that I found through desperate Google searching. Despite my best efforts, I can't get the other two to connect to the printer. I don't know why they call this a wireless printer, this function is useless on this printer.

Bought the HP P1102w for my son as a gift after reading many of the reviews here. He used to have a HP Color Deskjet 4260, which was a *horrible* printer in my opinion--ink would need to replaced constantly due to drying up. The P1102w is amazingly fast, and is just so superior to those inkjet/deskjets with regard to reliability and ink/toner usage. Even though its just black and white, that's all he really needs. This machine prints immediately, none of that printer head gyration nonsense that occurs with the inkjets when you first start printing. And it is very fast-- 19 pages per minute! Print quality looks great. The best part of all, I don't have to replace printer ink every other time we want to print (my son uses it heavily for school projects maybe twice a month). This printer comes with a starter toner cartridge (a little smaller than the normal cartridges). I also bought 2 refurb cartridges from Amazon for around $12 each -- can't beat that price, and haven't needed them yet. The starter cartridge is still going strong after 4 months (probably equivalent to 200 pages being printed due to infrequent usage) and I don't need to worry about the ink drying out, and it always prints immediately, and is very quiet. I started printing to my son's printer because I loved how I didn't need to wait for the pages, now I've ordered my own.HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer (CE657A#BGJ)

The seller and service was excellent. The product, however, has some flaws. First of all, the automatic WiFi connection did not work and the instructions that accompanied the product did not solve the problem. I had to resort to Google and there I found other users who had had the same issue with the corresponding solution. Also, apart from the print quality being crisp and dark, I had to take out the toner cartridge and shake it so that I would have consistent coverage on the page. All-in-all a pretty good printer for the price.

I was looking for a relatively inexpensive laser printer to replace an old HP I had. The reviews on this model were great. On trying to get the installation done, it just would not print. The print dialog box says printing page 1,2,3, ... 20. But no print action, no lights, etc.Tried a whole bunch of installation variations, from the CD, web, "easy install", etc. no joy.The box has the Mac logo. But inside in the fine print it says it support OS 10.5 and OS 10.6. The HP website, in a round about way (you have to do a lot of digging) seems to confirm it by omission. Also, the Apple website that lists the drivers they have received does not list the HP Laserjet P1102. I think putting the Apple logo on the box, when the printer doesn't support the Mac's primary operating system is deceptive.I will have return this to the big box store from which it came and find a printer that will work with Mac OS X Lion.
