This is a great scanner for converting slides to a digital picture. I have scanned over 2,600 slides since I purchased this scanner. You have to setup a naming convention to keep all your slides in order. I use yyyy mm description. The software will number each slide in sequence using your naming convention. The scanner software will do some minor editing of the slide. Make sure you clean the slide bed periodically.

I was looking for a scanner for pictures and documents. There are several features about this scanner that I had not thought about and now I find I use them all the time. I have yet to try to scan slides, but it does not appear to be difficult. In the past, we found it expensive to take slides elsewhere to be scanned. From what I see it is a simple process and I am looking forward to getting started. For the price, this is an excellant product.

I have boxes and boxes of black & white negatives, color negatives, and color slides. Many of them are challenging to deal with, e.g. concert shots, pushed film, wrong color temperature, etc. I didn't want to spend lots of $ for a scanner. I looked at both types of film scanners, like this Epson V330, and the dedicated camera element type. The latter generally got poor reviews until you spend hundreds of $. The V330 seemed to be the optimum cheap-o choice so I bought it.It's actually quite impressive, if slow. If it were only a photo/slide/negative scanner that would probably be a great improvement but this is also designed to scan documents - a function I don't need (already adequately covered by another all-in-one). What makes it "slow" is that you can only have one strip of film or 4 slides scanned at once. Were it designed specifically for scanning negatives or slides it would hopefully be able to use the entire platen, enabling scanning of 3 to 4 strips of 35mm film, or a dozen slides, at once. This would probably make it a bit more expensive too.Be that as it may, it - and the software that comes with it - does the job. The Epson scan tool is a bit odd, as has been noted elsewhere in these reviews; it has four modes: auto, home, office, and professional. These are fundamentally meaningless though you can figure out what they're for. I just use professional because it's for scanning images/slides/film and gives broad control over the process. One nice feature is that it will try to create separate image files from a strip of film. When this works it's a great labor-saver. However it doesn't always get the image right, and I can't understand this. A 35mm film field is always the same size, yet sometimes the scan tool preview shows only a partial image. Actual scans end up with only the partial image. In this case you have to scan the image of the entire strip of film and use other tools (e.g. GIMP) to cut/paste the separate images.I use the ArcSoft MediaImpression tool to "de-noise" the image (and it does quite a nice job most of the time), then dump it in to GIMP (Gnu Image Manipulation Program) for further processing.Despite these issues, which I see as relatively minor, for under $100 this is a great tool for the job.

I purchased this scanner from Amazon on November 17, 2011. Since then, I had scanned three photos. The scans turned out well. Yesterday I tried to scan a contract I had signed so that I could email it to a company that is going to install a patio door. The scanner would not turn on. I tried plugging its ac adapter into several outlets with no result. Finally I checked the adapter with a multimeter and found no output voltage. I went to the Epson support website, but the only way to get help there is with a long distance call and (I suspect) a long wait on the line. I'm not willing to put up with that. I will get a new other-than-Epson scanner, and I will avoid all other Epson products.

I have been using scanners dating back to the days of SCSI ports. In fact, my first scanner was a motorized hand scanner that also included the ability to travel on a board with a track. I've used all sorts of brands of flatbeds ever since, so I'm in a good position to give a non-professional assessment of the scanner. However, as a reader of many, many reviews myself, I'll keep it brief.To begin with, the installation was not that complicated (Windows 7) and the scanner fired up perfectly and did several scan jobs for me without a hitch.WHY DID I BUY IT? We already had scanning capability in our All-In-One Canon MP series printer/scanner/copier. Truthfully, scanning pictures is not all that great with the Canon, which is more focused on document scanning. Last week my wife mentioned that we should digitally scan the several decades of pictures we have. In addition to that project, it came up that she would like to scan pictures at her sisters. Of course, I would would like to scan my 87 year old Dad's pictures as well. Both of them live in excess of 100 miles away, pretty much negating the use of the rather large and very slow Canon. Thus began my search for a decent quality flatbed scanner that I could travel with and use with my notebook computer.I spent considerable time researching on the internet and came very close to buying an Epson V-600 (about as close as you can get to the venerable V-700, without the excessive cost). However, the more I check it out the more I realized that I would not be requiring any of the more advanced, high resolution scanning it offered. That is what led me to the Epson Perfection V-33. The price was really good and I was positive that it would fill the bill for scanning and restoring old photos and news clippings.If you're looking for a smaller profile, flatbed scanner that can scan and restore your home photos, this is the machine. Epson's included software is not overly sophisticated, but very good at handling the job. Would I recommend the V-33? Most certainly!!!

I bought this both to replace an obsolete Windows 98 era Visioneer scanner with outdated drivers and for the slide scanning capabilities of the V330. I gave it four stars instead of five because of the placement of the cables. They are mounted on the side near the front next to the buttons. This is not a problem if you can position the scanner sideways to the PC but it makes placing it front wise near impossible.The slide adapter is for 35MM slides which have a rectangular image. Many of our slides have square images. Scanning these creates large black areas to the left and right of the image. Using a photo editor program I cropped out the black sections, then cropped and resized the somewhat square image into a 4X6 rectangle. I also successfully scanned some tiny 110 slides which come mounted in a slide adapter and edited them the same way.Our square slides come in three different image sizes. I wasn't always able to get people fully in the scan, their heads would be cut off, ect. I solved this by placing the slide UNDER the slide adapter instead of snapping it in the holder, then positioning it where the person would be fully scanned.Some Ektachrome slides had taken on a reddish cast. The included color restoration software did an excellent job of correcting this.I used 400 resolution for all the slides scanning them into 4X6 size. These forty and fifty year old family slides, which no one has seen for years, are now colorful prints. They look amazing.

I literally just set this scanner up. It was super easy! Scans things quickly, 3-D objects (like a sketchbook) scan really nicely, no noticeable blurring at the spine. I'll update this review in a bit after I've used the scanner more but so far so good! Scans look nice in Home Auto mode.

I bought this scanner back in July of 2011 after my first scanner of five years died on me. It installed great and it was easy to place in a very small space I had it for. It scanned really fast and the scan came out great. I really loved it. I used this for the next two weeks before stopping using it as I didn't need to scan anything more till last night, when this scanner refused to scan. A reinstallation of the disk did nothing to fix the refusal. I tried all the tips that my friends gave to me for the next five hours and none of the tips worked.Pro: Scans really fast and gave really crisp scans, lightweight and ease of use.Cons: Dies within six months after the first use and the price is steep.I would recommend this item if you need to scan something every single day, but if you don't need to for a few days, you may end up with a dead scanner and you would have wasted your money on this product.

I am very happy with this scanner. I have scanned about 700 slides in the last two weeks & am pleased with the general quality. Colors seem true to the original pix. I did have some problems early on though. The Epson scan program would lock up & then not communicate with the scanner. After a few calls to tech support I realized my computer was too slow so I then connected it to the new media computer I had recently built & it has been flawless since.

My purpose was looking for A3 photo scanner with ADF. But it was not success because I could not afford the price of A3 scanner and its specification which some of it does not meet my expectation.So I have to look for another scanner which meet my below expectation:1. Scan photo which give the best result.2. Scan photo from negative film.3. Could be able to scan A3 document.4. Fast scanning speed.5. Low power consumption.With the above purpose, i have research each scanner specification and price from HP, Epson, Canon... and finally choose this one, EPSON PERFECTION V330.I used it around 4 days after the date that I purchase. I feel very please with it. It was very easy to setup with windows xp pro. but it just a little bit take time to install additional software that come with its CD.The scanning speed is very fast (no warm up time) and both text and photo provide a good result. I am doing printing business and sometime my client asked me to produce the same color output as their original document. As I know each device has a difference color gamut, the color won't give accurate 100% but this printer could help me to archive the result around 90%. I understand about this.Scanning from the negative film also clear and beautiful. Plus, the the additional software is very helpful especially arcsoft scan-n-stitch. This could help me to save a lot of $ for A3 scanner while sometime I need to scan A3 document for my customer. It just a little bit take time compare to A3 scanner. The OCR software also a plus but I rarely to use it.There are only two point that I found difficult using this scanner, it related to the layout of the scanner. First it is a little bit difficult to open the scanner cover. There is a little space for our finger to catch the cover to open for scan a document. Second if I open the cover for 180 degree to scan a book, the cover of the scanner would sit on the USB and power cable. That would be inconvenient for position of the scanner cover. Epson to change this designed port. This is the reason that I gave it only 4 stars.Finally, this is the best scanner on the market for photo, document and film scanner with the affordable price.thank,

I'm an artist and require a lot of scanning and uploading my art work. I was stuck with a basic all-in-one printer with a scanner that was so bad that I had stopped uploading any of my works for the longest time.I looked up reviews on this scanner and it was rated #2 in a list of scanner reviews, so I went ahead and bought it online hoping it would work out.I did have some initial problems getting it to work after installing the drivers from the CD provided with the scanner. So I looked for a driver available online and after installing that, it finally worked. Remember to install drivers before connecting the scanner.Apart from the initial hiccup, I've been using it a lot and loving the results. Yes, it's a little noisy but I'm happy as long as the quality is amazing.Oh, and did I mention the lid can flip completely open in case you want to scan huge canvases that don't fold mid-way? :)

Nice product, particularly considering that it's priced about the same as the toys out there.It is quality construction and the frame for scanning multiple slides is handy. Scan quality is very good and my only complaint is scan speed is a little slow.Highly recommended.

I bought this for my wife to use on all of her old photos. She used it to put a video disk together for her parents. It was reasonable in price and a piece of cake to set up. She uses it without any issues and without my help. It is large but it is a scanner. Glad I ordered it.

This Epson scanner is a fine optical instrument. It is fast, accurate and produces true colors. It does slides an fims.... You can read all about the technical features elsewhere. I am always a stickler for software. The basic software (drivers and Espons Scanner program) are adequate, but could be just a bit easier to use and more intuitive. The previous versions of Epson scanner software were actually better (easier to use, more intuitive) than this new version... It has the features you need to scan, but it's hard to guess how to use it. Also, the Doc that comes with scanner is not the greatest. I guess I will be able to figure it out, but it was a disappointment to find that anything except a vanilla scan is harder to figure out than previously.... Don't get me wrong -- the scanner is great and the software works without a hitch -- it's just that the human engineering on the software is somewhat lacking. 4 stars.

Plug and play for me with Windows 7!!I chose, for now, not to install the Arcsoft software.I downloaded what I needed and performs scans of what I need.The scans are accurate for my email needs and photos.I do not need a slide scanner.I got this item for $20 by signing up for Amazon's credit card, using their $50 credit.I know I think I got a great deal!I do not think you'll be disapponted with this scanner for everyday use!

I bought this scanner with the hopes of scanning a lot of old photos. - - Bad mistake - - . When scanning semi-gloss photos I get vertical light lines in the scans and when I called Epson support ( which was an interesting experience) I was told that I could not scan semi-gloss photos because they reflect the light. I sent it back quickly and got an all in one HP machine that does not seem to have that problem.

It is a sleek looking scanner which does the job. I will update as I use it more. Photos scanned in look very good. Comes with some software that stitches together odd sized pages though I haven't had a chance to experiment with that.I just scanned in a couple of pages using the PDF button on the scanner. It worked wonderfully in that I could also highlight all the text in the pdf and paste it into other documents or emails - what a great feature!I initially was disappointing because after installing the drivers with the latest updates I tried to do an OCR test and quickly discovered that the bundled software ABBYY Finereader wouldn't do any scans giving the message "Failed to initialize scanner". I downloaded the free Microsoft Office Document Imaging software to try it instead but received a similar error (funnily enough, some freeware OCR software I found online called freeOCR worked fine). In the end I managed to overcome the problem on my own and things are looking a lot better (if you get this message, look to see if you have any processes that may be accessing the scanner and blocking ABBYY).

I am sorry I bought this. There is no manual, not even a hint at instructions. All the glowing reviews in the world can't teach me how to use this thing -- they only tantalize with hints of what might be. No manual loaded up with the CD -- at least several computer searches haven't found it on my machine, and I followed every instruction in the install. There is no manual on the CD either. How all those other reviewers figured out how use this thing is beyond me. They are obviously much smarter than me, I guess. Unless you are a computer genius, run away from this machine and find a company that respects people enough to assume they will read instructions.

Scanner does an excellent job. However, there are many features that we haven't tried yet. My only concern is that is hard to figure out the instructions. I wish they were easier to understand. The manual is on the installation CD. So far it has been trial and error. If we don't like the scan, we try it again with other settings until we are get it right.

Bought brand new due to good ratings after finding out my old scanner won't work on Windoz 7. Couldn't get the software to work tried everything. Finally sent a note to Epson tech support. Took over a day to get a reply and of course it was SOP start at the beginning. In the mean time I swapped USB cables. They sent a bad cable works great now! Fortunatly I had a spare. It's faster than my old one and the software is easy to use once you get it working. All in all I'm satisfied and the price was right! Also like the PDF function!

This is by far the best scanner I have even owned. It was set up and fully working in less than 5 minutes. Operation is incredibly simple and fast. Software has a great auto function that makes scanning prints as easy as the push of a button. Or you can switch to professional mode and twiddle with scanning parameters. My previous scanner was a Cannon LIDE 90 and it was a total pain to use, both the hardware and software were quirky and cumbersome. This is such a relief! Image quality is great. As noted, cables are in an awkward place, but no big deal.

When the scanning function failed on my Canon multi-function printer, I began looking for another scanner. Based on a variety of reviews I decided to purchase the Epson Perfection V330. I've owned the scanner approximately a month and have scanned documents and 35mm slides. It does a great job and is particularly impressive with slides. I have more than 1000 slides (20-30 years old), many of which I plan to convert to digital photos. The software is very effective at re-touching and restoring color. My only minor complaint is that it scans only 4 slides at a time, but that seems to be consistent with many scanners. My Canon printer scanned 6 at a time. Overall, I am happy with this scanner and don't regret my purchase at all.

This scanner is perfect for my needs. We lost my parents over the last couple of years and they had a lot of photos on 35mm slides and film strip. This scanner copies them all in to our computer perfectly and has helped us save some very precious times from our past. I highly recommend this product should you need to scan anything in.I've found nothing to complain about it and everything to be happy about.

The software is easy to use and not really that powerful but that's not important.The main thing is, this scanner cannot scan slides or film. Get the V330 for that. I have roughly 400-500 old slides that my parents have collected over the years and thrown in a box. Some of them are in pretty bad shape. You really have 3 options if money is tight. Have them sent off and pay somebody .20-.50 per copy, buy one of those cheap knock-off slide scanners that are sold everywhere and all look alike or get this quality scanner with superb software. Keep in mind, a scanners only as good as the software. Once I've adjusted some of the settings like restore picture quality and remove grain you're ready to go. The default DPI is 300 but I highly recommend going with at least 600 or even 800 DPI. 1200 DPI is overkill and I don't have 30 minutes per 4 slides to wait. I was stunned by the quality of the scans, even the water damaged slides came out looking better than the original. The film tray is a little tricky to figure out at first. You must read the documentation so as to get the orientation of the slides and negatives correct. When your done using the film tray, it stores very neatly inside the top lid. The best part about a flatbed scanner is that it has many more uses than a dedicated 35mm scanner. I might also mention, I use Mac OS X and it is OS X friendly with rock-solid software. Good job Epson and thanks for making my life a little bit easier and better!

A good scanner that has worked well for my b&w negatives but color negatives are another matter. 9 times out of ten,I get a fushcia colored line across the image after scanning color negatives. It seems like I am stuck with shooting b&w film or get a higher end scanner. I am leaning towards the latter.

I have about a hundred slides from the 50s and 60s that have survived the humidity of Florida, but many had turned red with age. I was very happy with the results of my V330 Photo scanner. It was very easy to load and, when it scanned the photos, brought some or most of the color back. I have shared the photos with my sisters who can't believe the way they look now. It did take some time to perform the scan, but I just found other things to do during that time. Now to copy my notebooks of slides from the 80s when I lived in Arizona. Thanks Epson. Great job.

I won't waste your time by citing specifications that you can read on the web page. Suffice it to say that this is an inexpensive, lightweight, light duty color scanner that captures excellent images at a respectable resolution. For the individual who needs only occasional scanning, it should work well. However, be aware that the construction is of very lightweight plastic and such of the innards as you can see are also lightweight. It isn't going to make lots of scans day in and day out without falling apart, either electronically or mechanically.This is a machine for the home user, a fact reflected in the software. It opens automatically when you begin a scan (or you can open it manually) and does a good job of guiding the inexperienced user through the scanning process. There are some rudimentary editing features but for any kind of serious image manipulation you will need Photoshop or some less expensive alternative. Installation was quick and painless on my Windows 7/64 computer.If you scan only occasionally, this is a machine that will meet your needs. If you are a power user, you probably want to spend a bit more for a scanner with better build quality.

It took too long to scan! I just need general resolution fast scan for some of my textbook pages or class handouts. The average time for one page is 5 min and sometimes up to 23min!!! Are you kidding, Epson??!!I know part of the reason may be my poor netbook but my previous Canon all-in-one printer worked well and was able to response and scan one page in about 30 sec.Also, I sometimes use a kindle to read so I tried to scan as grey color. But I can hardly see the words on my handout. I don't know if I made the wrong setting or something else??I thought a pro scanner may be faster or at least have better images. However, I disappointed in both ways.

I have used the scanner to scan my 30 year old slides and photographs. For the slides I used automatic without changes. For the photographs I use automatic, but changed the resolution to 600 dpi. I typically put 3 or 4 pictures on the glass with a spacing of 1/2 inch. Each pictures creates its own JPG file. I am very impressed with the quality. Installation is somewhat long and I doubt that I will use the extra tools that come with the scanner.

I'm really impressed by this scanner, far superior than the best Canon (which I bought and returned), the photos look exactly identical, works perfectly with windows 7, I usually use 300 dpi for fast and good quality scanning, but you can scan up to 9600 dpi, for gigantic images. Also, you can scann with 48 bits, amazing!

This product is easy to setup and use and produces high quality scans! I had it working in very little time. To use it, just place your item you want to scan on the screen laying flat on it, make sure the lid is shut and scan.

I started researching scanners after my old Epson scanner went south. I say old because I had it for probably a decade and it worked really well. Since i don't need to scan everyday, I wanted to find a reasonably priced scanner. I came upon the V330 and after reading reviews I thought I'd give it a try. The thing that sold me was the added ability to Scan old negatives and film slides... more on that later.I found it works really well with my Mac and Image Capture, the utility app that comes with all Macs. That way I bypassed the Epson scanner app that came with the scanner. By using Image Capture I can adjust resolution and select whatever area I choose to scan. It works flawlessly! BUT, be sure to go to the Epson website and download the "fix-it" update for Image Capture.Now to the scanning of old negatives and film slides. WOW! it works great with film slides (I don't have any negatives to try scanning those). I used the Epson scanning software for this. It scans 4 slides at once. Some other reviewers complained about the the resolution being not so good. Apparently they didn't figure out that resolution can be ADJUSTED! Epson offers 3 modes with their software: Home, Business, and Pro. When scanning slides I used the Home set. Here are my settings:Document type: Positive Film (Slides are usually NOT negative picture)Image Type: Color:Destination: Other (allows you to set resolution)Resolution: 400 dpi (Any more takes too long to scan, any less the picture looks fuzzy)Target size: 4x6Do NOT use color restoration. The pics can be adjusted much easier in other applications.I've already scanned hundreds of pics. Once you do a few, you will get into a groove.DOWNSIDE: The scanning of 4 pictures using the above method takes about 6 minutes. Find a good book to read while you wait and if you have hundreds of slides, be prepared to spend your evenings scanning:)UPSIDE: Totally worth the money. I highly recommend the Epson V330 scanner!

The scanner got through 30 film negatives before the AC adaptor blew. My bad I guess for not checking the power input, I just assumed it would work since Amazon sold it to me (I live in Australia).No idea what to do now, trying to beg Epson Australia to sell me an Aussie adaptor...Apart from that, I was happy with the first 30 scans! Didn't get a chance to test on scanning photos though.

I agree with most of the reviews already posted. This is an excellent scanner, and does everything I have asked it to do, but it does have a couple of things that could be improved. I bought this as a replacement for a 10 year old Canon scanner that finally died. I chose this one because of the ability to do color slides and 35mm negatives. Over the past couple weeks, I have scanned hundreds of pictures and negatives, and am very happy with the quality of the results.One of the handy features of this scanner is that it does a great job of automatic color correction with color negatives, no matter who manufactured the film. There is a difference between say, Fuji and Kodak film, but the scanner seems to be able to compensate for either one. Like others have said, scanning slides and film can take some time, since you will need a higher resolution scan to capture the detail. I settled on 800 dpi for film, and 400 dpi for prints.I also have it sitting on a shelf, arranged so the buttons are closes to me...like in the Amazon image shown for this product. That is necessary, if you plan to lay the lid flat, and scan oversize documents. Occasionally, while reaching over the buttons to place pictures or negatives, I will accidentally hit one of the buttons and the scanner will start scanning. It would be nice to be able to disable those buttons, but it can't be done.Bottom line, I am very happy with mine.

It is a little on the slow side but we are having so much fun looking at old slides. Still don't know anything about editing so need to read up on that. Assembly was fairly quick and it is easy to use. Can't wait to get more of those slides scanned. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is the speed. Quality of the scans so far has been nice. Not sure how to fix the darkness on some of them. Great product.

I love this scanner it is fast, takes less space. One touch to make a pdf file. I scan almost all my bills and important document using this scanner. Works with Mac, Linux and Windows.

I bought this scanner to use for scanning slides. I have many thousands of slides that I want to edit down and digitize. I investigated some of the stand alone slide scanners, but realized that they really just took a picture of the slide immage. The Perfection V330 actually scanns the slide image. I do not have a scanner-printer, so havings a scanner for photos and documents was also more beneficial. The Perfection V330 has exceeded my expectations for resolution and quality. I have also used it to scan old photos and it likewise worked perfectly. My only minor issue is that the software provided with it is pretty elemental, but it does provide a lot of options for scanning documents, photos and slides. It just seems a little clumsy to use. I am very happy I purchased this scanner, and it cost about the same as the stand alone slide scanner.

The main purpose for buying a scanner was to help me preserve several hundred family pictures that were taken between 1920 and 1970. Many of these were the size of a credit card and had started to fade. The Epson V330 did an excellent job. I was able to enlarge the and color correct them. Epson Perfection V330 Photo Scanner (B11B200211)Additionally, I had read reviews indicating that this scanner does not work with Windows XP, false, I used XP and the V330 worked flawlessly.

after spending over an hour with three different customer service people i still could not get the scanner to work with my system (windows 7). the last person said it probably was my operating system. i returned the scanner to amazon and was given credit. i will not deal with epson again. i intend to buy a canon scanner instead.

Linux users looking for a great, cheap film scanner need look no further. Colors look great from negative film, and the scanning utility is stable.There are a few "cons":-Some noise and banding is visible when scanning severely overexposed negatives or in some very bright highlights at 2400 DPI or higher. I shot a whole role of 400 speed film with my meter set at 100 - oops!-It is not a fast scanner at 2400 DPI, where I scan negatives.-The Linux driver works great, but needs to be downloaded and installed according to the directions found here:Overall, it is a wonderful scanner - the perfect choice for the broke photo-hobbyist, especially if that person happens to run Linux. I don't know if any other film-capapble scanner is Linux friendly, but the Epson brand is very well supported!

I bought this two weeks ago, great price, free and fast delivery from Beach Camera through Amazon. I got this to replace my old Epson 636U, which I loved but which was not compatible with my new Windows 7 computer.Well, this one could not have been easier to setup. In less than 10 minutes I was scanning. And the only reason it took that long was because I had to decide which photograph was going to be the first one I scanned. I tried the auto mode and the Professional (Photographer) mode and they both came out great: fast, great colors, and sharp. I can see that using the auto mode will probably be more than sufficient for most scans and most people. But, if you like to tweak with histograms and gamma and all that other PhotoShop-type stuff, you have plenty of flexibility. I haven't had a chance yet to try out the rest of the software and features but they look promising.Now, for the asterisk: it's not enough of a complaint to ding it one star down from five, but it is slightly annoying. I don't care for the placement of the power cable and USB connectors on the unit; I think they'd be better in the "back" of the unit, but maybe they are right next to the power/control buttons to save money and space. And maybe it's just a problem for me because I have the unit on the right side of my desk and the computer tower is on the floor on the left side. (I can't reconfigure it any better). So, since the unit is so compact, I turned it "sideways" and it worked out just fine. The cover flips open perfectly, the power/USB cable are out of my way, and the little extra reach to the buttons is no big deal. So: still five stars.Highly recommended, not only for the price, but for the features, and results. Now, on to the thousands of photos I want to scan in. Maybe I'll update this review after a few hundred....
