This is the second one that I have had. The first one got knocked to the floor and damaged. I use it for photos and documents and it does a very good job.

I'm still working with this. but it is versatile in that it can scan so many different things, from print film negatives, slides, medium format film, etc.

I bought this scanner to scan old photo albums so I could upload them for safekeeping. After the first few photo's I notice the images were not sharp. I tried making several adjustments and they just got worse. So I took the same photo's and scanned them on my old HP "all in one" scanner. There was no comparison the HP scans were a 100% better. Sharper and more true as to color. Also, I could never get the Epson to scan a slide, which I have many. I sent the Epson back and have been using my old HP scanner which does a great job though probably slower.

Great scanner at a great price. Easy to set up and easy to use. Replaced a 1650 that wasn't compatible with Windows 7.So far - no complaints, no issues.

I purchased this scanner 10 months ago. I have scanned seveal thousand old pictures, 35mm slides, and photo negatives. I could not be more pleased with the results. The digital images are excellent. Buyers need to be aware that the scanning is manual - meaning 1 photo/negative at a time. For 35mm slides or 35mm uncut film, 4 can be scanned at a time. The process is slow, but the results are worth the time it takes!

It replaced an old scanner that I had and exceeded my expectation. It is very fast and did more than did more than my old one. It is also very easy to set up. Also you can't beat the price for what you get.

There's plenty of reviews on this, so I'll keep this brief and to the point. For the money, can't be beat. You'll trade speed for quality though. We bought it primarily for it's film scanning ability, and it shines in this area, as well as normal photos. There IS a but though. The software can be glitchy at times. That, and I see no way to use Photoshop directly to scan film. Not sure why that is. But like I said, for the price, it can't be beat, and the next step up is at least triple the price.

This is my 5th scanner and third Epson in a row. The last one was about 5 years old. Even though it still works mechanically, fungus has developed on the underside of the glass. The price of this Epson made it a no-brainer. Warm up time is very short compared to the previous one. Scan speed is fast.

Having trouble sendin negitives to my computer for printing. They do not go into my picture fileas they should. Still working on it . Also is larger than I wanted. doesn't hold the size negitives I have. Thought it would be a full screen that could be used not just a small space. Really not satisfied with this.

Don't know what the more expensive scanners offer that this one doesn't, but it seems to me that for a minimum price I found a winner. The only thing I was hesitant about were a few reviews that said the software directions were not particularly user friendly. I couldn't DISAGREE more. The cd that you download gives you a user manual that you can store on your computer - it's simple to read and understand. I've used this scanner to scan and store a number of old black and white prints, some that were in rather sad shape (rips, blotches, discoloration, etc.). They've scanned prefectly and I've used the software to clean them up make them look like the pics were taken yesterday. You can scan and store the file for printing later if you want, or can scan and print in one step (you must have a seperate printer). I can't imagine a $300 scanner doing much more than this one does. If I could give it a 6 rating, I would.

I just got this scanner earlier this afternoon and I have spent over an hour on the phone with Epson Tech Support with no positive results. The software and the scanner hangs after a single use (copy one page, scan one page, etc.) and I have to unplug the scanner to clear it.Also the software is extremely crude and doesn't even allow you to name the output file before saving (saves file as 001.jpg or 001.pdf... Then you have to go to the directory and rename it. Also it only allows you to save to your "My Pictures", "My Documents" or "Other" folder that you have to designate before scanning the image.In all I have to say that the hardware and software for this scanner are lacking... I will be sending this "pig" back to Amazon and hoping to make a better choice on my next order.

Replacing an old HP 2400 a big improvement with the V33. The scanner is fast and quiet. The software is the only short coming. I have not been able to scan directly to job files like the HP software, but that is minor issue compaired to reloading the HP software do to constant errors.

Although specifically designed for scanning slides and small film images, the unit fails horribly in slides unless Epson failed to make directions more understandable or convey their translation from Cantonese correctly. Like most US computer products, Epson just re-markets an already manufactured product from the Asian market. I feel Epson dropped the ball on making instruction and better information as to available features and how to optimize the unit's performance. If the unit can do the job, I haven't found it yet.

Epson Perfection V330 Photo Scanner (B11B200211)Good scanner hardware at appropriate value for price, as usual with Amazon. Software problem occurred when installing on Vista OS desktop (HP Pavilion, Home Premium 32 bit OS, up to date). Level 2 tech at Epson Customer Support unable to help. I discovered software installs OK on System 7 laptop (HP Pavilion, Home Premium, 64 bit OS, up to date). This obviously restricts scanner placement in office and is inconvenient. Otherwise it would get a 5-star rating.

Purchased because model included feature to scan slides and negatives. 600 dpi is not adequate for tiny negatives or enlargements on photos. Interface is clunky & generic, multiple steps for photos & lacks choices for enlargements and photo formats. Price not justified.

Great little product. Worked seamlessly on Windows 7. Does what it is supposed to do with no problems. Used it to complete the copying for USCIS form I-130 which is about 100+ sheets of documentation.

Have had the product a month, and have scanned in about 400 photos and 100 slides. Both work well, using pretty much the default settings. Slide scanning is slow, but since I have my kids doing the work that is no problem! Setup was very easy and straightforward, and figuring out how to use the slide holder took a few minutes but was not a problem. Dust removal/correction seems to work well, and the quality of the scans is excellent. I have not tried the color correction stuff yet, but will on some old photos from 30 years ago. For the price, I am very pleased with the product and would recommend it without reservation.

I did a moderate amount of research and saw that the product description of the V330 specified for use in scanning photos. However upon using the machine I found the dpi was not high enough to produce clear sharp images that would be printable in a 5x7 print.

I have bad luck with Epson products. Their longevity sucks. This worked well in the beginning, although it felt like each scan took forever. The software and choosing what and how to use to scan wasn't easy to use. I'm not the top of tech savvy, but i'm not at the bottom either. It stopped scanning after very few uses (months later, but total uses was maybe 100 tops). I've tried downloading a driver upgrade...it just won't work. It won't load onto my computer. It's too deep to store easily and too big. I bought it to scan family photos, but it takes too long (took too long) and i gave up. It really, for me, was a waste of money. My other Epson printer died after a few months. I truly cannot recommend Epson products and won't ever purchase them again. Guaranteed.

I don't like the extra programs this comes with, including the "event manager" that I guess I need to keep installed? The scanner works very well. I've used it to scan pencil drawings, paper documents, and textbooks. The files can be either black/white or color. The pencil drawings show detail well with a few adjustments using a photo editor program. I only wish this was able to convert several files to a single pdf document. It isn't too big. I do think the power cable could be changed to a different site on the scanner, but it isn't a big deal. Great buy for the money.

It's fine, I had to get a new scanner because mine was old and won't load into my new computer. I've only used this new one twice so I can't give it a great or bad review yet. I wanted an HP like my old one but they didn't have a simple scanner so I bought this one, the price was right.

I needed to create multi-page pdf's to send via emails. It took me some an hour or so to learn how to do that by exploring all the options in the software. (The online help is a bit limited when you need a quick answer.) After I figured that out things went well and I am using the scanner easily to create my multi-page pdf's.

Flat faded images, my 5 year old "Epson perfection 2480" smoked it in image quality. I also had a common problem that many others in searching have complained about. It would stop working randomly during scanning. The fix was to unplug the power restart the software and it was back but very frustrating (and yes I tried all drivers available). That was what my "Epson perfection 2480" was doing as well and the only fix for it was to lower the resolution below 300dpi. Hardly a fix I know but that's why I bought this one to replace it, so when it did the same thing i think its fair to say Epson hardware and windows software just don't get along right now (03/16/2011)! To verify I tested this on three WIN XP PRO machines, they all had the same problem after about the fourth scan on all three! My guess is Epson is trying to squeeze to much info through the USB port to increase scanning times and it is hanging with read/write errors or could be cheap memory chips that are failing, or just bad driver support! Either way you have been warned!!! Please comment if you have had a different experience running a different OS (WIN 7 etc). or if you know a fix or workaround for the above issues.UPDATE 10-08-2011:I did find a work around for Windows XP users for the Epson scanner freeze issues but have not verified it with the V330. With my Epson 2480 If I simply change the file number up one number when saving a scan it will not freeze. It must be a write issue with the Epson Win XP drivers where the preview scan and final scan are probably trying to write to the same file without an exception to overwrite. Just a guess but by just upping the save number from say "01.jpg" to "02.jpg" every time you save - again like "34.jpg to 35.jpg" and so forth fixed the freeze issue for me. Hope that helps in resolving this frustration for the rest of you out there. My Epson 2480 is working flawlessly now and I love it, great scanner! Wish I could have test this on the Epson V330 before returning. Please post if any of you have had this issue with Windows XP and an the Epson V330 and have tested with the above workaround. Thanks

I already have a good HP scanner/printer combo, back at home in Europe where I normally live. It's three years old and I was happy with it. But I badly needed a scanner here for the time being in the US. I wanted to invest the minimum for that, yet it had to have added value over the scanner in Europe, as I was going to take it back home after my stay. Plus I hate to have things that do exactly the same, double. Finding and selecting a scanner that meets both criteria, was not an easy task. After searching, reading and comparing on the net for quite a while, I found that the Epson V330 stood out from the rest. Still I wasn't sure. I felt I could only justify the purchase by telling myself that if the image quality would be the same than my 'old' scanner/printer combo, it would still be much better suited for scanning old photos and slides, later on. Something I have always been wanting to do. And so I considered it worth the try. After I had received the box and was opening it, again I felt this scanner would probably do exactly the same than my combo in Europe and would be a waste of money. But, boy, what a difference with the combo! The V330 is much faster and very silent. And what's most important : the image quality and resolution are so much better. I am very happy with my purchase and consider the money well spend. The scanner/printer combo in Europe has become a printer only and the V330 will get a prominent place next to it.The only thing I don't like about the V330, as others have noted, is the location of the USB port on the side of the unit. Plugging a USB cable in, makes the setup look odd and ugly, and requires more bench space. I know Epson designed it this way for cost savings, but I find it unacceptable. Would the manager and engineers that decided to implement the port this way, buy a car with its gas inlet on the front side? I don't think so.

I bought this scanner to replace my old Epson 1640su scanner. The 1640 has served me well and is still working after umteen years. I just wanted to come up to date with a USB2 port and a slimmer design. I'm running Linux Mint 13 so I went to the AVASYS web site and downloaded the necessary drivers for linux. I run the scanner on Linux, WinXP and Windows7. Works great everywhere.

I love the scanner, really great and made my work allot faster. But the light started to drag against the bottom of the scanner about 6 months into the warranty. So I must take it to a repair center that will ship it back to Epson for a replacement. The repair center is 130 miles from here. So two round trips totaling 620 miles, EPSON: WHY NOT MAKE IT EASY ON THE CUSTOMER AND LET ME SHIP IT BACK TO EPSON AND CUT OUT THE MIDDLEMAN ?

Purchased this scanner primarily to save the thousands of 35mm slides and film I have of family and basiically my whole life. With the software and controls you can virtually bring them back to where they were originally and with scratch and dust removal sometimes better. You can just set it on auto and lock in features you want or do it totally manually. Also does a great job on photos and old black and whits shots. You will not be disappointed with this scanner!

This is a great scanner however the manual is useless. There are many features on the machine, however the manual has links to other links, to still other links. You are never sure if you are getting optimal performance. Definition of histogram is "professional only". Resolution is selected many ways, "believe us we know the best way for your application". How many hours would it take to have an English speaking technical writer create a usable manual for download. Below is the professional response from the third person after 25 minutes on the non 800 phone call for assistance.I have been asked to contact you regarding your request for a written user's guide for your Perfection V330 scanner. I am sorry, but we do not have that document in hard copy form. The electronic document is in HTML format that include multiple links to different areas of the information so that you can navigate to each part of the subject independently of other subjects. This electronic reference manualis installed on your desktop at the time the scanner is installed andif you want to print a portion as you need it, you can do that rightfrom the desktop.I apologize that I cannot provide a printed copy for you.
