I need a scanner to scan images from books for my history class. We have the V330 at work and they work well and stand up to serious student abuse. I decided I didn't need the slide holders and the other fancy extras and got the V33 and saved a nice chunk of change. I don't have the word's greatest eye, but co-workers who do tell me that the photo image quality is really good for the price.I also like that you can scan OCR because I do occasionally scan text I want to edit.Overall, nice little workhorse scanner at a good price.

Installation of software is non-intuitive. One is not sure of what is which. Same goes for the manual. I have Win 8 and had to reconnect my printer several times for the scanner to recognize the printer.Direct (Scaner to Printer) then worked very well.A bit perplexing as to what/where is up with it.

Obligatory story of my journey to find a decent scanner. Back in the late 90s-early 2000s I was in a highschool yearbook club. My job was to illustrate story submissions & scan them into the computer. God did that take a long time in those days; you could eat lunch while a single picture scanned. Many years latter my family bought a huge flatbed scanner, & I'd still be using it out of frugalness if I hadn't lost the plug when we moved. In 2003 I got a new computer & my first all-in-one scanner/printer; an HP PSC 2355. As a printer, it was better than any I'd used at the time, but the scanner was never that good; the software was a pain to install, it was slow, small, & it made a noise like trying to start up a dying car. Now I have another new computer & the old scanner isn't W7 compatible, so I finally had an excuse to buy a nice big flatbed scanner.Now the important part: Well, when you're upgrading from a small scanner purchased in 2003, ANYTHING will be 5 stars by comparison. But what made me choose this particular scanner? Why is this a good scanner for illustrators?*I want to buy a toner copier because coloring ink printouts ruins my expensive art markers. This means I have no use for an all-in-one scanner that comes with an inkjet printer.*Sometimes 8.5 by 11 is just not big enough, & on a small scanner, this means you have to either draw the image on different sheets of paper or scan a large sheet more than one, then stitch the pieces together in Photoshop. So large format is the way to go.*You could scan an artbook or a novel & it won't look runny near the book binding. I recommend this for scanlators who need quality scans from raw mangas.*It's sooooo much faster & quieter than the 8 year old Hewlett Packard I was using (really, anything would be).*That whole thing about converting scanned documents into editable text was something I could only dream of 8 years ago. I want to see if it will work with really nice handwriting.*My grama gave me $70 & said I could buy anything I wanted on Amazon. I only watch a movie once every 2 years, so I figured this was the way to go. Plus the shipping was free.*The PDF converter could be useful for anyone trying to become a Comicer, Mangaka, or Doujinshika.I'll add more after I play around with it for a little bit.*

I purchased this scanner to digitize my Mom's and a friend's photos. My friend had prints and slides and the slides came out very nice. I'm well past 1000 prints of my Mom's and am very pleased at how well everything has worked. The software does the job really well. The machine is not the fastest but for the price and how much I will use it after I finish my two projects I think it is certainly fast enough. I can recommend the purchase of this device.

For the price, this gives a good scan, but the software is not as good as Kodak. Even if you put the picture square on the glass, it will often give a scan that is skewed. The marquee can be sized up, down, right, left, but it can not be rotated. Also, I can not get the software to load onto one of my computers.

It's inexpensive, it's fast and it does what it says. I bought this to replace an ancient Vivitar that finally died, and WOW what a difference. Whether scanning docs or pics they are quick, easy and very good quality. No complaints yet!

I chose this rating because I haven't used my new scanner much yet, but it has fulfilled my needs wonderfully. I always use HP peripheral devices because, as the computer builders will tell you, they are the most compatible of all. My last HP scanner ($50 about 20 years ago) died, I went to HP for another one, and they don't have a simple document scanner under $200. Sorry, HP. You lose.

Had this a few months now - we connected it to a server and linked the scan software with a shared folder - just push the button and grab your files from the share! This scanner works great for basic tasks and for scanning in drawings. The software seems robust enough for most tasks. Can't beat the price!

Epson website says "Limited 1 year Warranty," so I didnt think it would be a problem to purchase this NEW from a non-Epson website. Had it for a few months, started seeing a green line down the side of scans. In the pamphlet with the scanner (BUT NOT ON THEIR WEBSITE), it says the warranty is not transferable. I thought this applied if someone tried to sell or give it away after using it. Nope, this means the original seller (or gift-giver) you get it from must find HIS receipt from his purchase (which he's not going to have at this point) and make a toll call to Epson to get a replacement. That's obviously not going to happen.Of course, their Sales department says all warranties are honored, and it's the One Year period which is not transferable (the clock is ticking after the first consumer purchase). Waste of money, and several hours of emailing and long-distance phoning.

The film tray on this product is light and flimsy. It does not allow film to be fed directly through and requires you to cut the roll into strips. The film tray does not stay in place and makes scanning film a terribly frustrating process. After all was said and done, the film tray eventually snapped on me and now the scanner will not allow me to scan film.If I didn't throw out the box when this product came in, I would return it. Now I will give it to my neighbor and buy a decent scanner from another brand like Canon.

The scanner performs great, and does really well with 35mm film (a big selling point for me). My only issue with it is the location of the wires (near the front). Doesn't seem ideal on a desk for this reason.

This product could use more detailed insructions. Is there an order to which you download the 3 applications? Does the menu come up on your computer screen when you start the scanner? Does scanning require the use of a connected computer? What do you check if it doesn't work? I can't get any of these questions answered on Epson's website. I have to assume that the unit is faulty, so I will be sending it back. I guess for $84 you can't expect it to work very well anyway.

WOW, what a great scanner. Our daughter wanted a copy of a studio photo of us take several years ago. The first scan was at 1200 dpi – it was too large for Photoshop Elements to process readily. The second scan was at 600 dpi and I used the facial enhancement app – Boy, we really looked good! To say the least the scan was better than the original. This scanner far exceeded our expectations

I've only used it a few times sor far, but it provides a good clear scan of documents and is a whole lot faster than my old scanner.

the product is good and works well. One point is that to turn it off you must hold the power key down for 3 seconds, but if you have hit the power key while the product was on previously, it won't turn off when it is held down for 3 seconds later. You have to disconnect the device. Also, the software isn't as user friendly as the previous software was. I had a 1200U and the software that came with it was much more user friendly.

The Epson V330 scanner I purchased about a month ago came as exactly as described in the company descriptions and in the Amazon reviews I read. I have been using it merrily to start scanning a lifetime full of print photos and slides. The photos have come out beautifully. I have only done a slide or two so I can't comment much on that. I've heard it's a bit more complicated, but not a problem to master. I only have two mild disappointments, and one of those has nothing to do with the product: 1. It would really cool if the scans went just a bit faster (though I'm sure I would say this in any case unless the scan was instantaneous). 2. I scan my images into Picasa and that has been difficult to master. It's not very user-friendly. If any readers have any suggestions about how to use Picasa more effectively, or about some alternative to Picasa, I'd love to hear them.

The scanner is a nice unit. I chose it for its hinged top that allows me to lay the top flat and the film/slide scanner.Out of the box, it was a sleek, lightweight design. It has four buttons to make scanning easier. The software comes on a CD and installs easily as I would expect an Epson product to do. Scanning of photographs and slides is easy, and the resolution is excellent. Color restoration works and works well with some but not all old, discolored photographs.I only give the unit three stars because of two issues/problems. The written instructions that come with the unit are poor and incomplete. I nearly broke the hinge trying to figure out how to open it 180 degrees. The unit does not appear to scan to the edge of the glass. As a result, you chop off some of the pictures. The last is a critical issue to me and resulted in most of the two star cut in my rating.

Installed scanner in an Acer TravelMate 5742, Intel Core I3, 3 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, Windows 7 Home Premium. My PC is almost new, no games, very light use, no unauthorized software, etc. After just 8 or 10 photo scannings the scanner stopped working and displayed the message "The scanner has stopped working, etc." Uninstalled driver and reinstalled it which was eventually the same recommendation given when calling Epson support with several calls, which did not corrected the problem. Took the scanner to authorized service center. Scanner worked well in other machines but was impossible to make it work with mine. Searched for solution in Internet and found that this a rather common error. Tried all recommendations with no results. One solution may be reinstalling Windows but I am not willing to do it after every 8 or 10 scans or whenever the scanner decides to stop working. Should have bought one of the specialty slide scanners instead. Under this circumstances this product is completely useless. Better luck to you.Epson Perfection V330 Photo Scanner (B11B200211)

Works. Easy. Much faster than my old Epson scanner. Due to the new led technology I am sure. I have using beenit for a year. The only problem was not due to the scanner hardware. I was scanning old family documents, and after about forty five or fifty, I tried to save as a pdf. It crashed. An hours work. Up in smoke.

This is the fourth review I have written regarding this scanner. The first three were submitted to Epson, but none were accepted by them. In the first two, I gave the scanner 1 star because I was unable, even with their tech support, to get it working with Mac Lion. After many, many hours, even days back and forth with email Tech Support, he asked if I was running the scanner through a USB hub (which I was). When I went directly to the computer, the scanner worked as promised. However, the process was painful in the extreme and I spent literally hours and hours downloading, installing, uninstalling, downloading and ..... well, you get the picture. All of this would have been avoided if Epson would just put the software needed on the disc that came with the computer (rather than instructions that say not to use it if you are running Lion), or a simple place to download the needed files and warned me up front about the hub issue.The scanner works just fine. It turns out you use the Snow Leopard software. Go figureI would like a manual that I can download, not a pointer to an HTML file. That just isn't the way I want to have my manual available to me.Despite my giving it a very good rating the last time I submitted a review to Epson, I still did not meet the terms and conditions for them to accept my review. I guess because I didn't like the process for getting the appropriate software.I decided to write a review where I bought the scanner; Amazon.com.

I have negatives from pictures taken at Brownie camp 50 some years ago -- I never hoped to see the photos again but with this scanner I have been able to produce digital images from these ancient negatives that are better than the original photos. My late father took beautiful slides which I can now scan and share with my siblings. The Epson scanner is easy to set up and use and the included software helps to produce very good results. I would recommend it to anyone trying to sort through that box of old negatives and slides that you've been meaning to do something about.

The scanner constantly locks up! It does not work as advertised and is basically stealing your money. The slide scanner feature constantly locks up.

Right from the start I suspected problems. The unit would not turn off. Had trouble getting it to work at all. Downloaded current driver from Epson, no improvement. I have two Dell 380 computers and neither would recconize the scanner. Did work sometime but never when I needed it. Sent it back and have not heard anything yet for about 2 weeks. I don't know what is happening with my return.

i use it for work.scanning receipts for expenses,service orders. the sharpness of the scans is excellent!i dont care where the usb and power plugs are, being on the sides didnt really matter.

I have found the EpsonV33 scanner to be very simple to operate. I've scanned to a file and also send a copy to my printer without a problem. The installation instructions are very straight forward so even this 65 yr old had no problem.

Works great, but slow if your doing slides. This was the reason I bought this scanner, got a lot of slides to download on computer. Got to be careful putting slides in holder, they can fall out if you touch them after they are in place.

When I first got the scanner I had trouble creating a multipage PDF file because the online user manual wasn't very helpful. I called Epson and was very pleased that they answered almost immediately. (There was no long wait on hold.) The Epson person walked me thorough the solution and since then the scanner has worked fine. I have created color and black and white files and prints with no problem.

Item would not work. Gave it to my husband for Christmas. Spent Dec 26 connecting it and trying to get it to work. Finally gave up. Back it goes. Caution do not order Christmas presents before Nov 1 or you must pay for return of defective items.

I'm not a 'techno' geek, so I always look for things that are easy to set up and operate. This scanner fits the bill. It scans slides 4 at a time as well as 3 standard photos at a time. I'm using it with an ACER Aspire running Windows 7 and it works as it should. I would highly recommend this scanner.

I purchased primarily because of its ability to scan slides; however, I haven't scanned slides yet. I have scanned documents and found the set up and use to be easy and the quality is excellent. I would recommend this scanner.

I have had this a couple of weeks and scanned about 200 slides with absolutely no problem.I haven't really played with too many settings but at 1200 dpi I get a great image and the jpeg file size isn't too big. I think most are about 200k +/- and the image quality seems very good both viewed and when I had prints made at Walgreens.I use Adobe Photoshop elements import feature which opens the Epson scan. It seems to take about 3-4 minutes for the preview and the actual scan and I typically use the scan time to decide on a file name to save under.I am not Mr. Photographer and realize that my slides are snapshots not what you would call a true photograph. I have played with editing in Photoshop mainly just a little lightening and am happy with the results. The color and contrast seem to match the image as I remember it so I am pleased.I did scan one black and white negative and very impressed by the results.I also had a few 2 1/4 X 2 1/4 slides that will not fit in the holder. I found that if I layed one slide over the number 4 position, I could capture the 35mm portion of the slide with good results. I tried using position 1 and the scan software seemed to get confused "thinking" there was no image just the empty holder. If you do this, there is no thumbnail view but there is another tab for normal view or something like that. It is basically for a marquee where I guess you combine multiple images into one. The on-line manual doesn't really explain how this works. Anyhow, I select the 35mm area then it only scans that and I get one usable image.I like the near instant LED lamp and the sound is the basic whine that I have heard on every scanner I have ever used. Not loud but I could see where it might be annoying to other people in the room.Like other reviewers I have slides and prints from years gone by that I want to put into electronic format and this scanner does exactly that for a reasonable price and in my opinion, excellent quality. I just wasn't comfortable sending my originals to a service to do this. I wish I would have picked up a slide viewer so I could pick out the ones I wanted to scan but it is easy enough to un-select a slide in preview.I cannot say this is the best scanner out there but I can say that there is nothing about it that does not meet my expectations. For me it is worth every penny so I can look at the old images and share them electronically with friends and family. I think some people expect miracles but even with software enhancing, you are limited to the quality of the original.The Amazon price and delivery was excellent as always.

I wish I'd spent a little more and gotten a USB-powered scanner that takes up less space. This one has a brick-like AC adapter, and the scanner is bigger than it needs to be.

Great scanner for photos. Much better than the ones that come with the all-in-one printers. I have owned several Epson scanners and been happy with all of them.

Scan directly to e-mail does not work with Windows 7.Drivers not compatible with Windows 7. You have to use the compatible with a previous version trick in properties. Not an easy install with Windows 7.

I purchased an HP 5590 refurbished and rarely use my wife's Epson. No comparison. Software is not veryFriendly and lacks functionality. Consider HP with numerous updates and support.

The Scanner works well. The Installation First use could use a little more instructions. The price is right in line with similar products.
