If you're looking for a generic color printer, the C80 is most likely your best choise, even compared with more expensive printers. It is fast, economical, quiet (except for the paper-feed mechanism) and prints excellent quality text, graphics and images in both B&W and color. I use it with XP, without any problems -- true plug and play, without the need of any driver installation.However, if you're buying the C80 for photo-quality prints, you'll probably get disapointed. Before I bought it, I read many user reviews describing the C80's photo prints as "dull" -- this is exactly the case. I tried a number of print options (and the C80 gives you plenty) on photo-quality Epson paper -- in all cases, the feeling was that the print came out OK, but didn't have the sharpness I was expecting ("dull colors" is the right word). Another disadvantage, is the print sizes: does not have the "bordlerless photo" capability, and needs some trial-error based adjustments in the print options to print even standard photo sizes (4x6, 3x5 etc).Very reluctantly, because it's a great printer, I decided to return for a true Photo Printer.

I purchased the Epson Stylus with hesitation. I was planning on purchasing the HP 1218 but after speaking with the sales rep at the store who had reviewed all of the Epson's features such as individual ink cartridges, 20ppm black and 10ppm color speed as well as the price (about 120 dollars cheaper than the HP). I decided to give Epson a try. Boy, was I disappointed!!.After getting the printer home and installed, I was unable to get the printer to communicate with my laptop. After uninstalling and reinstalling the product, I called the tech support, which was honestly, a bigger disappointment than the printer not installing. They kept insisting that the parallel port cable I was using was the problem. After explaining to them that I use the same cable on my HP 690C without difficulty, they thought that perhaps the parallel port on the printer was bad. Back to the store, exchange the printer, buy a USB cable to ensure it is NOT a parallel cable problem and after 2 more calls to tech support and reinstalling the drivers from their website, the printer would never work. Very disappointing. I have Windows 98 with a 500MhZ processor and 128 RAM, so I would caution anyone considering purchasing this new printer to wait until they fix the software drivers to accomodate Win 98. Other disappointment was the inability to print 4X6 prints easily. It is not pre-defined in the printer set up. You must define the dimensions each time you want to print this size even though Epson makes a 4X6 photo paper. In talking with the tech support, she was dumbfounded and said she would report it right away and was sure that the driver would be updated to accomodate the 4x6 dimension as default.

I had an HP printer for years, never had a problem. I've had this C-80 for 6 months now and it is nothing but trouble. Color rarely prints properly, 1-8 sheets of paper feed each time, the printer goes through ink like crazy, but it doesn't seem to end up where it is supposed to be on the paper. Bottom line: a complete piece of junk.

Colors in photos are washed out. Cannot handle deep blues, deep reds or deep yellows. The ink is handy though, replaceable individually, but I wish they would revamp the ink quality for this model.Construction quality is superb, this printer will last you several good years. It prints very quickly. The price is great and the cost of ownership is low in part to the individually replaceable ink cartridges.I love everything about this printer except the photo quality. I expected better inkjet quality from Epson. I guess they are trying to steer me into needing an inkjet printer and an inkjet photo printer. I'd rather have a laser printer and an inkjet photo printer.

I've been using Epson Stylus Color printers for awhile, originally the Stylus 740, and recently the 777i printer. Each has been impressive in the print quality, especially photos. I decided to make the leap and upgrade to the Stylus C80 printer, in part due to the $30 rebate offered.Setup was very easy as is with most Epson printers. I use it with a USB cable to my Apple iBook computer and had no trouble with installing and using the printer drivers. As a matter of fact, these drivers are nearly identical to the ones used for the Stylus 777i. I have also used the Printer Sharing function built into the driver and now print wirelessly from my iBook to this printer - COOL!!!The print quality is excellent and speeds are noticeably faster than my 777i printer. The best improvement was the reduced noise during printing, it is much more quiet! I did notice that there is a considerable difference in photo print appearance between the C80 and the 740/777i depending on the type of paper used.Previously, I have used the Epson 4x6 photo paper with very good results- on the C80 however, the prints appears somewhat washed out and dull. Using Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper produces much better results as does Kodak Premium Picture Paper (for less $$$ than Epson). I was also perplexed at the limited paper sizes supported by the drivers, 4x6 print is missing and must be user defined. Mac OS X drivers are due out on Oct. 22 so I am looking forward to testing those as well.I recommend this printer for fast, quiet photo quality printing for a budget price.

I admit that I am not an expert pertaining to inkjet printers but one does not need to be one to realize that the Epson C80 is an excellent printer. My Epson C80 prints perfectly clear colors as they are suppose to appear and it prints out extremely fast with virtually no noise. The added bonus is that it is inexpensive as compared to other printers. You definately will get more than your moneys worth if you purchase this printer.

This printer EATS ink - especially since I seem to have to clean the heads every time I use it. It also feeds the paper crooked to the pictures aren't square with the edges. I won't buy another Epson printer.

I have an office that uses several specialized printers. We use an Epson that is a few years old for ad proofing. In addition, a canon printer had been our "photo quality prints" machine. When we wanted to update the Canon I looked at all the new printers up to about $3,000. The Epson 1270 has the ability to print such high quality that it was not necessary to spend more. I have some friends in graphic design who do not use Epson Printers but almost all do. This Printer convinced me that Epson really does have the best inkjet technology. The 1270 did have some problems with color (orange shift) early on but Epson has mostly corrected the problem with new ink and paper configurations. Epson also quickly released a new version of the printer to help leave the problems behind. The new 1280 Printer prints at a higher DPI 2880 x 720 but the 1440 x 720 is fine for our usage. In fact I could only tell a difference when using a magnifying lens and comparing the areas of a picture where you have a variation in continuous tone - like in a cloud in the sky -. The dot pattern seems somewhat smoother at 2880 x 720 where the cloud thins. I think it might matter if your print is inspected under a loop but short of that you could not really tell. Due to the great quality out-puts I have started printing some of my digital photography using the 1270 and it is just spectacular. If you want the longevity of 20 years Epson claims, you really do need to frame the prints tightly to protect them from the atmosphere. Summary: This is one of the best printers ever. The only printers that compare to the Epson 1270 are other Epson printers. The 1280, 2000 & 5500.

First I will start by saying that I have been a fanatic supporter of Epson printers; I have owned (own) three of them. I have also owned HP's, and like I said, am an Epson fan.At first I was blown away by the clarity and brightness. But..We (Epson support) couldn't configure the printer for USB.Then I noticed the printer was literally drinking ink...I mean lots of ink on the lowest black resolution only.As far as speed, yeah, it cranks out the pages, but only after taking extended periods of time. On average, I have about a 25-30 second delay before the printer will begin to print (very annoying). Once it gets going, it kicks butt.Now, back to my biggest gripe...I have owned this printer since November 2001. It is now January 2002. I have blasted 5 black cartridges and 2 each of the remaining colors. By comparison, with my Stylus 740, I used to go thru 1 black cartridge every month, sometimes it would last 2, and the color about every 2-3 months.I have also found the ink incompatible with quality, high-gloss stock from Red River. Personally, I am now looking elsewhere.Dunno what went wrong, but I don't feel like spending [that much] in ink per year.VERY DISAPPOINTED!!

I'm partial to Epson products anyway, but this is the fastest, highest-quality inkjet printer I've ever had. It's especially good for the price range. I generally use a laser printer for my writing business, but I've purchased a few inkjet printers over the years because I need the color capability. This printer is faster than my HP LaserJet with more standard features (such as double-sided printing) and has a much cleaner text output than many other inkjets. You have to take a much closer look to know that it's not a laser printer. Using the color features and high-gloss paper, I created a complete marketing campaign for myself, and few people could tell that it wasn't professionally printed. The C80 also seems to not eat as much ink as other models, with the added benefit of using separate ink cartridges for each color. It's also very quiet. I highly recommend it for anyone who needs a good but inexpensive inkjet printer!

I purchased the C80 a week ago based on reviews I had read in several publications and because the Epson Stylus 850 I had before produced beautiful photo results (alas it died from clogged print head syndrome). Installation on my PowerMac was a snap. The printer does load paper with a bit of a snap but prints quietly and quickly. I should say that the initial print results were very disappointing. The photos came out dull and rather lifeless. So I actually returned the printer and got a second C80 (I didn't want to give up on it just yet!). The second printer gave me much better results--although the photos were still on the dark side (I've had to adjust the brightness on the photos I scan with the Epson 1640 scanner I own). The photos I have printer out have been excellent in durability and detail. I should mention that I had to align the print heads write out of the box because of horizontal lines on the print--these went away after heads were re-aligned. Anyway I'm going to try using different paper than the Epson photo paper I've been using and try different printer settings to get brighter more vivid photos. Overall I give this printer a fairly positive htumbs up.

Print quality is excellent if you chose the right setting when you print. The print options allow you to choose from settings such as regular printing paper, to heavy matte paper to premium glossy paper and etc. You can also manually select your own resolution--the C-80 prints up to 2800 dpi producing excellent results printing photos. The black and white printing is the fastest I've seen (even faster than some cheaper laser printers). The colors are accurate--of course that depends also on how your monitor is calibrated. I use the printer to print some digital photos as well as some color Illustrations from Adobe Illustrator. Both rater and vector prints look great on C-80.The ink: it uses four separate ink tanks. Black-$32, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow -$12. I think the ink is kind of expensive, though.Anyway, I am satisfied with this printer. It is also compatible with Mac OSX (new driver available for download automatically when you search for software update on your OSX).

The Epson Stylus C80 is my second Epson printer purchase. Epson printers always offer great quality at affordable prices. I use my Stylus C80 for both digital pictures and text print outs. The Stylus C80 handles both perfectly. I recommend using the quality instead of speed setting when printing out digital pictures. Changing the settings is quick and very easy to do. By giving up speed for quality you will have excellent digital photo print outs. I am using Windows XP and had absolutely no problem installing and operating my printer. Something else I really enjoy about this printer are the separate ink cartridges for red, yellow, and blue. A lot of printers have just one color ink cartridge containing red, blue, and yellow. Which means when you run out of one color, you have to replace all the colors except for black. With the Stylus C80 you only replace the color you run out of. I'm glad I turned to Epson for the second time when I needed a new printer. Epson printers never let me down.

I have had an Epson printer before, a Stylus 600 and it was of better quality than this one. This printer prints fast and the quality is pretty good. The downside is the printing heads clog and need cleaning frequently, which uses up a lot of ink. This can get costly. You can only print up a few art projects, such as cards or labels and then the colors are dark and have black lines through them. After cleaning the nozzles, this problem disappears and the quality is better, but you have used up more & more ink. I would not buy a Epson next time due to this model. I had a Canon Color Bubble Jet printer that did a better job than this one!

I loved this printer when I first got it but now I am having problems and the only way to get help is through a 900 number! ... Should have a 800 number or an E-mail contact but I can't find it.

This is by far the best inkjet I have ever used…Unlike another reviewer, I had no problems whatsoever getting this printer installed and working. I can’t imagine the install being much easier. The drivers work very well with Windows 98 as they do with Win2k, Winxp and NT4.The print speeds are incredible! I can’t believe it prints this fast while maintaining such a high quality output. The print speed has also improved a lot with mixed text/graphic pages. It seems to recognize that the text portion doesn’t need the same speed of the images and prints them much faster.I like the separate ink cartridges, as you can replace each color independently. Canon has had this feature for the longest time, and I am glad to see Epson finally adding it. Time will tell if this makes it much cheaper than before.The image quality is great! They have improved the plain paper printing quality from the last Epson printer I have used. On photo quality paper, it’s amazing! The picture quality is also much better than you get with latest HP printers, which tend to have grainy images when compared to the C80.The only thing I don’t like is the styling. The previous printers look much better to me than the C80. And what’s with the naming scheme? So far, I have enjoyed this incredibly fast printer....

I never noticed before how varied the color output can be from one printer to the next until I purchased this printer to make brochures for my home repair business. I have an HP printer for another computer in my home and when I print out brochures on this printer and brochures on that printer... whoa, what a difference! I find that the blues are much more vibrant on the HP than on this Epson printer. It must be the diference in the base inks. For black, white, red, orange, and yellow printing, this is an excellent printer... but I do love my blue, so I'm sticking with the HP.

Nice printer,Clear colours, crisp text, quiet fast operation. Good value for money, good ink cartridge life (the separate colours tanks are great) and overall, a really nice little printer that can handle high volumes well...

Installs easy and is very easy to use. It prints crisp,clear documents and pictures. The seperate ink units are a plus. The only downfall is the noisy paper advance.

Epson's Stylus C80 is a great printer. The printing speed is very fast, it took only 30 seconds to print out a full color 8x10 photograph in economy mode. Some users repot that this printer has a loud paper feed mechanism, and it does. Epson rates this printer as having a 42dB sound intesity rating during it's loudest operation, feeding the paper. But, the Epson C60 had a 47dB rating so the C80 really is an improvement. The C80 also is the first of the C-series to feature pigment based inks, which in my experience with this printer, are working very well. Linux users will be especially pleased with this printer as it is [one of] the most suggested printer[s] for use with Linux (...), and with the new Gimp-Print 1.2.0 drivers, this printer is fully supported and it's quality in Linux (2880x1440) now surpasses that of the Windows drivers (2880x720). And with the fast spool speeds available over USB in Windows, Macintosh, and Linux, who can argue that this is the fastest, and highest quality mid-rage inkjet on the market?

At first, this was a great printer. Then I ran out of ink in one of the cartridges and it has not worked since. Replacing the cartridges, running the nozzle check, and head cleaning failed to produce any print. Epson does not have a 800 number for service (just a long distance one) and has yet to respond to my daily emails (15 and counting). I will never buy another epson product.

I already have a decent inkjet, but I wanted one with higher resolution and better photo-realism. I read reviews about the C80. The resolution on it is fantastic. But, after running 4 hours of trials on it (in a serious attempt to achieve decent color), I decided to return it. On my other printer (only 1440 dpi) the colors are crisp, rich, and sharp -- especially the blacks. Looking at conventionally developed photographs, the same can be said. On the C80, the colors are VERY muted -- DULL. I called Epson, and they confirmed that the archival inks have a different tone than their standard inks. The Espson driver doesn't even offer an independent control over the black saturation (even though it does provide one for cyan, magenta, and yellow). If you're looking for realistic photos, this is NOT the way to go if color is important.

I had trouble with digital signing or something like that with Microsoft. The ad says it is compatible with Windows XP, but I ended up going to the web site to download a couple of things to make it work. I wanted this printer for the individual print cartridges - was tired of changing the others just because I was out of the color I use most frequently! The printing looks very nice and didn't smear when I highlighted words. If it weren't for the confusion on set up - I would've rated it 5 stars!
