I had to go through 2 sets of ink cartridges on my C80 to find this out so maybe me learning the hard way will help you.Epson printers will not print at all if any single cartridge is empty on its multiple cartridge versions. Fair enough until taken with other factors. I do a lot of black and white printing and only once in a while I print in color. The problem is that the occasional necessary head cleaning on the C80 uses up color ink even if the only printing you are doing is black and white!! After my experience I would not be surprised to find the same problem with other Epson prints and possibly other brands as well. So watch out!I noticed my color was going down as I did black prints and of course I didn't like it, so I thought that when the color cartridges ran out I would not replace them. What a shock it was when my printer refused to print a black and white print in spite of the fact that I had installed a brand new black cartridge. It refused because a color cartridge ran out during the increased head cleaning necessary when the black ink cartridge was almost empty.In other words, gentle people, if you were to do only black printing on the C80 you would never-the-less have to occasionally buy a black cartridge plus 3 color cartridges to keep it going.BAD NEWS!!

!!!This is exactly what happen to me!"I bought the printer in November 2001 for home use. I typically do not print more than 20 pages per week. The printer worked fine until about a month ago when I discovered a pool of ink at the bottom of printer. I assumed it was a faulty ink cartridge, cleaned it up and bought a new cartridge. I have ink at the bottom of the printer again. I contacted Epson. After a couple of emails, they suggested that I call their tech support line. That would cost $10 just to talk to them. The printer goes in the garbage and I am replacing it with an HP."The dates may be different, but the model and problems are exactly the same, write down to the $10.00 service call. What a racket! The warranty was for a year and that is as long as the printer lasted. I will never buy an Epson again, but I won't buy an HP either.

we use this printer at work and can't wait to replace it. it takes too long just to turn it on (sounds like the print heads are cleaning), is very noisy and lately will not print (flashing red light comes on). we have uninstalled and reinstalled which seems to work for the first print job and then the red light comes back on. and like other reviews, the ink cartridges need to be replaced frequently (we don't print very often). this is the worst printer we have had and will not buy epson again. we have only had this printer for about a year and purchased it new.

I'm an Epson afficionado, but after having this printer I will not be buying another Epson. It has been a constant headache, frequent paper jams, firmware glitches, inkjets clogging over and over (I lose a lot of ink by having to clean jets at least 2-3 times in succession to get ink flowing again).Stay away from it. Go with a Canon or HP. Those seem to get the best reviews.It's a shame... the output really is beautiful, but it's not worth tearing your hair out.

This printer produces very high quality photos, as well color documents. Easy to download and install software gives increased flexiblity for photos and documents. This is a great printer for all of your printing needs. I highly recommend this printer.

I bought this printer for a freind who has no desire to own a computer. Yup, they're still out there. He loves my old digital camera I gave him. But he was frustrated taking the smart card to the drugstore for printing. He can now print his own pictures at home! The photo quality is fantastic. Really a great stand alone printer.

I have purchased Epson printers for years, and normally I am fairly satisfied. This design however was obviously not tested. As others have said, the paper very easily jams, the nozzles clog frequently and easily, and the printer drinks quite a bit of ink. I currently also use an Epson 2200, which has ended up costing less because it does better with the ink (ink is where these companies make their money of course).

When it works the pictures, transfers and post cards we've produced look great!The problem is: you just don't know when it's NOT going to look great. You *must* baby-sit the printer, and about half way through each print (when you can actually see a portion of the image) decide if the printer is function correctly.To get two transfers (at a each, just for the paper) we've had to print four times... wasting paper. 1st try: good. 2nd: oops - clean the heads (uses ink). 3rd: oops, clean the head. 4th: great! Tah-dah!Post cards: same thing. Several great Xmas cards in a row, then wham! Bad one. Clean the heads. Several good, and another bad.If you like babysitting, don't mind wasting money every now and then, enjoy listening to the printer cleaning the heads and printing test sheets, this printer is for you!Love the instructions that come with Epson's transfer paper, too. "Place the printable side up," it says. Uh, could you be a little less specific? There's two sides, and this is my first time using the paper. Is that the smooth side, or the rough side?"Choose 'Flip Image' in the driver." Uh, AIN'T no flippin' "Flip Image" option anywhere I can find!On the plus-side: the printer has a small footprint so it doesn't take a lot of room on your desk. Ink cartridges are easy to replace.On the negative side: any paper thicker than your normal printer paper requires you be present to hand-feed each sheet. Post cards, business cards, etc will feed multiple sheets and jam the printer. Another "Engineering" marvel.Yeah, but when it works... nice pictures are assured! When I win the lottery, I'll try a different brand, and let you know how they compare.

I just bought this two days ago. I was switching from a Canon S800. I was extremely impressed with the pictures that were coming out. Much better than on my old Canon. Setup was a cinch. The best part is the true borderless prints. The 4x6's I printed look like they came from a photo developer. In fact, they're probably better looking than any one-hour photo I've used. And the pictures look great on matte or glossy. The epson paper is also cheaper than the Canon paper. I only wish Epson made precut 5x7 paper!I haven't determined if it really is an ink hog, but for the quality, it's worth it. And I don't think the tanks are that expensive. A full set of the Canon's used to run me ~[$$], but these are under [$$] (color, don't really need black all that much). The printer is really really slow, though. Probably the biggest drawback for me.I haven't played with the features on the display. I've been printing from the computer.The best part has been that I had a paper jam that I caused, and couldn't fix. I called tech support, and they agreed to send me a new printer right away. I will send mine back after I get the new one, which should be 2-3 days. No hassling, or anything. I've been converted to an Epson user.

I have owned Epson since I can't remember and ALL of my printers have died the same way.. clogged to the point of being unusable just because you didn't use it for a month.. And like another reviewer here I was totally peeved at the fact that just because a color ran out I was unable to print in black ink which was full. Now as I write this I have just spent 2 hours trying to 'declog' my printer even though I have used nothing but genuine Epson ink cartridges and I just threw away 12 bucks on a new ink cartridge that is now useless.This printer less than 2 years old is going for a little ride when I drop it off the edge of a cliff. Curse you Epson!

I agree with the other reviews here in that this printer produces amazing photos. But if you're planning on using this in your home office, read on...When used as a day-to-day printer for documents this is the worst printer I've ever had. Paper jams occur EVERY SINGLE TIME I print multiple page documents. The paper feed mechanism is the worst I've encountered, scarring some pages with it's grippers. I've tried all kinds of papers, various numbers of pages in the feeder, all to no avail.Ink is another problem. The heads clog once a day, producing a page with about 20% ink coverage. I've tried name brand and generic ink cartidges, and it doesn't seem to matter. To fix it, I have to perform a head cleaning about 3-4 times in a row to get back to decent ink coverage.So DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER if you are looking for a workhorse. It's the most-unreliable printer (I can't leave the room while I print because I know I'll have to clear a jam) I've had the misfortune of owning.

I had an Epson Stylus 660, which was an older model, slow, noisy. So I upgraded to the R300, WOW. It is also very quiet, has seperate ink cartriges and I have had no problems with it. Pictures come out beautifully!! And as an extra bonus you can print on CDs.

I purchased this printer to replace a 3 year old Epson 900. After 3 years that printer had become ink-logged. It smeared ink over everything we tried to print.The Epson 925 is doing the same thing after one month of use. We went through a color ink cartrige within the first month even though we were not printing color. The simple act of cleaning emptied the cartridge, which needs to be done often in order to print at all. I actually purchased the printer from Best Buy. I asked for my money back. Too bad, it actually worked for more than 14 days. Please contact Epson. Epson says please contact your reseller.Do not buy this printer or any other Epson for that matter unless you are just looking for a paper holder. If you actually need to print more than once a month, buy something else.

I have had Epson printers for over 10 years so I know a good Epson printer when I see one. This is not a good printer. The colours are dull despite being heavy on ink and the printer needs constant head cleaning to keep away heavy banding. While not being a professional standard at this price you would expect this to be a quality product. Mine failed after 15 months and, in my opinion, Tech Support are neither Technical or Supportive.I would strongly advise caution before paying your hard earned cash for this unit. As for me I moved to a Canon i9100 - Lets see if this fares any better.

I have always owned HP printers but never satisfied with the quality. I am so impressed with this Epson printer. I have made beautiful copies of pictures and found it difficult to tell which was the copy. The only thing I recommend is that if you are printing pictures then use Colorlife paper.

The cartridges do not hold much ink, are expensive, and the printer refuses to print if one of the 4 cartridges is low or out. Even if you don't care if color is off or the document doesn't use that color... If you want to spend your life enslaved to replacing ink cartridges or earning ink cartridge money, then go buy this printer. Print quality and speed are good...

I bought one of these from my local camera shop. The store owner raved about them. To be sure mine did work fine, once I'd used 1/4 of the ink supply calibrating the thing.Then over the next six months it went in for repairs three times for clogged heads (using Epsons wonderful ink) (twice) and once with a broken paper feeder.The last time we insisted on a replacement. When it had arrived, it broke within 3 weeks. Another paper feeder, plus ink dumps everywhere.What an expemsive load...! It costs a fortune to run too, though we've never used one long enough to go through the ink.Thinking of buying this printer. Just don't do it.

I run a small graphic design business, and this printer can handle anything I throw at it. We use it more than any of our other printers. I can print everything from a run of several dozen letters and lables to sharp color pictures. We even printed our "save the date" letters and envelopes for our upcoming wedding. I buy inexpensive ink cartridges at printpal.com, and the quality is still great. Sometimes there is banding across sentences, but then i just clean the heads, which takes a few seconds. I have to clean every three or four weeks. I think the banding occurs because dust and hair get into the opening where the paper sits. To prevent exposure to dust, i lay a magazine across the top of the printer with just enough space for the paper to feed through freely. This really helps to prevent the banding. The ink cartridges last a long time too. Overall, a great machine for the money, and i would highly recommmend it.

I wished to use this with the Linksys pps1uw usb print server. Could not get it to work. Received a message during install of the printserver stating not to use the epson spool manager. I was using windows 2000 and there is no epson spool manager program for 2000. Still waiting on both Epson and Linksys to return my email as both of there phone queuqes are a wast of time. If I can make it work I will repost so that others do not feel my pain.

Worst printer. I read it in some magazines how good it is, fast, quiet, superbo photo printing quality, ink saving comparing to other printers. Either those editors had been paid by Epson or they were simply blind. Yes, it is fast, but it's ugly, wrong color on photo printing, noisy, and it use more ink for cleaning itself than for printing. It's ok to have some lousy products once for a while, but it's bad to sell it by simply telling lies about it. I am about to chop it apart and stay away from Epson forever.

I received this printer only for a week. The printer setup was very easy, I like the Epson quick start guide, it was easy to understand and it only took me 10 minutes to setup. I can start print photos right away by insert the CF card without PC, it was so convenience to print snap shots at home without waiting for hours or days. I was very impressed by the colors and details that I got from the pictures. It look like the prints you order from the local photo labs. Before you decide to print a picture, print an index sheet first to avoid any mistake, also the LCD on the printer is so easy to make any changes. For best result, I am getting a usb cable to connect to pc, so I can do some photo enhancement to make my pictures look better, to get perfect prints.For the price of this good quality printer, you won't go wrong!

I have had no problems with these ink cartridges, and I wouldnt expect problems since they are manufactured by Epson. However both black and color cartridges run out of ink very quickly, sometimes even when I do not use it. I am guessing it is caused by the start up, since everytime it starts the printer sounds as if it is cleaning itself and probably using up some ink. I print mostly black and white, yet both color and black cartridges need to be replaced after each quarter of my school year (10 weeks). I print about thirty pages each week.

After owning an Epson Stylus Color and loving it, I thought I couldn't go wrong with the C80. WRONG! I am very disappointed with this printer. It has a very annoying habit of feeding paper, returning it to the feed tray, and then printing on nothing. I've used more ink on the bottom of the printer than I've actually put on the paper. Between printing on nothing and having to clean the print heads often, I'm lucky if I get 100 good printouts per ink cartridge. It also feeds too much ink in places and leaves big splotches on the printout. I used to swear by Epson but now I swear I'll never own another one.

My printer goes through ink like a man in the Sahara goes through water. It also has a nasty habit of dumping ink all over the inside of the printer. Will NEVER buy Epson again.
