The printer refuses to print higher resolution prints 99% of the time; especially if the image in large in size (W and L). I have only 3 photo prints in frames from this printer because it does not print the image 99% of the time. It will print at 360 dpi(more of the time), but at 720 dpi and especially 1440 dpi I get wasted paper and ink(lots of it). Part of an image will print; then, empty paper shoots through the printer, and then it resumes printing the image only partly (this abnormality repeats itself sometime several time). Most often I have several pages of the pieces of the partial printed image. I've cleaned and alligned the printer head many times with no satisfactory lasting result. I've had to return to my old Epson Stylus color 600 model to get any results. I've wasted my money, and I find Epson's support wanting (no email contact or 800 telephone support). Do not believe all the hype. I've had the printer over 8 months. My computer has 1 GB memory, and I'm computer savvy. This is my third Epson printer...it is sad they produced this boat anchor - I mean printer - I think that is what it is supposed to be.

Great printer when it works, unfortunately you use more ink cleaning the heads then you do printing. You have to clean the heads constantly before printing and if you have a long document you might have to stop and clean the heads half way through printing the document. The black ink is very expensive especially when you have use half of it to clean the heads. Should have bought an HP

This printer is great for printing pictures and you can even print them without owning a computer, as long as you have the memory or flash card. It is also capable of printing the long roll of 4 x 6 borderless photos and has a self-cut device that cuts out the roll for you.When printing the glossy quality photos, it consumes lots of ink, so you might want to keep some back up cartridges, since they will drain out pretty quickly. Look for those generic ink cartridges for this model. They work well and save you money.If you're looking for a printer that prints great quality picture and capable of doing the regular printing, this printer is for you. But if you're looking to print a regular color picture or just for printing documents, I suggest a cheaper printer.

i actually bought it based on comparisons i made at a local retailer. on the plus side, colors were richer and more realistic looking. the down side is that is does seem to be a bit of an ink hog, but i've come to accept that if you're looking for a quality print, you're going to burn through some ink. even then, it ain't THAT bad...overall, i'm quite pleased with it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a great all-around printer.

I'm a freelance illustrator who sells prints regularly. I bought the Epson 1280 printer two years ago thinking I could produce "professional" quality prints of my artwork. Much to my dismay, using the standard printer settings and the available epson papers, I got less than desirable results. The prints were plagued with wysiwyg problems. The art on the monitor looked great, but when it printed out, the colors were off!I had to constantly tweak the printer settings to get the right colors. Not only that, I heard the prints would eventually turn orange over a period of time! I was about to give up on the printer, but then came along the colorlife papers. Every print that I made with the colorlife papers have come out a near perfect match with its onscreen counterpart. The quality is terrific with vivid colors and great detail. The printout feels and looks like a real profressional quality print! Overall, I am very satisfied with this paper. Oh, I should also mention that you MUST download the colorlife printer profiles from Epson to get your prints looking right. Its a very short download and worth the small inconvenience to download it.

This works like a dream. Installation and setup on XP Home version on my Dell Inspiron couldn't have been easier.The photos are truly awesome. Incredible clarity.Since I print mostly from the computer I don't really need the extra ability to do it stand alone, but I guess it's nice to have.

If you agree with me, you would say that a great deal of the quality of a printer lies on the ink it used and its cartridge, since the brightness of the prints, the range of colors and the size of the dots depend on it. I bought the printer in a hurry because my other printer (other brand) was broken. Although it was a hurry buy, I am please with it because of the quality of the prints (the printer is a little noisy and it takes a bit until it's prepare to print, but this is not a review of the printer). Also the ink dries very quickly.I've print photos in normal paper and the results are very good (for the paper), it convinces me to by photo paper to see how the quality will be, I predict it will be very good in general.Cons: the printer consumes the cartridge a bit to fast.

I bought this for my department at work. I use it mostly to print photos on Epson's glossy photo paper and get tons of compliments on how good they come out. I also print text and graphics with it and have been very happy with the output.

After going thru several ... printers, I bought this one based on a recommendation from http://www.....org/. At first all I was worried about was b/w speed - which the C80 tackles well - but once I got into photo printing I was really impressed. The 2880 dpi printing looks amazing, the printer driver itself handles color balance and pitch very well, especially on glossy photo stock.The print quality is next to perfect and Linux compatibility means I can use it will all my machines. Highly recommended.

I am an artist and a big fan of Epson printers. So much that I will not even look at other brands as an option. But I got to say that I am very disappointed at this one. Before I had the Stylus 740, and although slow as heck, the quality of the print was amazing. The colors were extremely bright and translucent. But with the c80, forget it. I got was the dullest colors ever printed on an Epson. Even after trying every setting there was, still the colors weren't as bright. Don't get me wrong thought. The quality of the printing was amazing even with the regular paper. And the fact that the ink is water resistant, well, is not really water resistant. It's just that it won't smear like the others if little drops of water get on it. I think that because the pigment been this "water resistant" is the problem with the colors. Maybe because of this, the ink is not translucent and the colors do not come out as bright. I was comparing a reproduction of my artwork from the 740 and the c80 and the difference is extremely noticeable. Although the quality is amazing and it is super fast. I would give it 5 stars, BUT!!! Then again the colors are not the brightest. The dullest red I've ever seen, and the black? Forget it. It is not a deep rich black like the 740. And that's why I don't give it more than 3 stars. Oh yeah! The Idea of separate ink cartridges is great and I didn't thing it used that much ink. I trust me I really was trying every setting it had because I didn't wanted to take it back and it didn't used even a 3rd of the cartridge.

The Epson C80 is a pretty good printer. It's fairly cheap,it's fast, and it prints type and pictures very well. I saw other reviews that said colors were dull, but I thought they were fine, although I don't like the garish, super-saturated colors you get in some kinds of slide film, so my taste may not be yours. It wasn't that easy to install, but this is my first printer on my first computer,so...but once I got it going it was fine. I recently downloaded Windows XP, and that's caused problems, but I think/hope it can be fixed with the help of a more knowledgeable friend. I like that it has separate ink cartridges, but it is quite thirsty and that gets expensive. Sometimes the printer doesn't want to recognize that I've put in a new cartridge, which can be frustrating. Sometimes it doesn't want to let me switch from color to b&w and back, but whether that's the printer's fault or the computer's, I don't know. It's a bit noisy loading paper, but that's a trivial complaint. This may sound like a lot of complaints, but I'm just trying to be thorough. My most serious complaint is the expense of replacing ink cartridges, but considering everything, I would buy the C80 again.

This printer is a loss leader designed to make Epson rich selling ink cartridges. Even if you only print in black, the color ink level will decrease (or will be reported to decrease) ever time you print.Another interesting ink selling feature is that you can't clean the ink nozzles if any cart is empty. So if you mostly print in black ink, and after you color ink vanishes w/o reason you can't clean the black nozzle without buying and installing more color carts that will empty themselves out like magic.Epson has special chips installed in teh ink carts to prevent them from being refilled (and prob designed to report the tanks as empty automatically after a certain time period).

It had been time to supplement my 6-year-old Epson Stylus II, which still functions perfectly, and I wanted to be able to do decent photos at home. Spent months looking at the various "specialty" photo printers, including Epson's, but had bought a C80 for a client and was impressed with its general speed and solidity. Finally, an Epson rep at a computer store confided that the two extra colors in the photo printers weren't necessarily that meaningful, given the smaller ink droplets in the C80, and he had the prints to prove it. That, the separate ink cartridges for economy's sake, and figuring I could always return the product if dissatisfied, convinced me to order one. Must admit that some of the negative reviews ... did give me some pause.In my experience, however, the C80 has been about all I'd hoped for the 3 weeks that I've had it. Text is very fast and extremely sharp (after the longer-than-used-to spooling period that many reviewers have mentioned), and the photos that I've printed I have been proud to give as gifts. This doesn't mean that I'm closing my Ofoto account, but for most ordinary purposes it more than fills the bill. Have not experienced the "dull" colors that several reviewers wrote about. Haven't done that much experimenting with different setting, since the Digital Photo option and Kodak Premium High Gloss paper have done so well for me, but it will be interesting to see if Epson papers (or Fuji, which has been strongly recommended to me) make any difference.

I purchased the C80 about 3 weeks ago because of all the Great reviews it recieved from everywhere. I opened it up and tried to turn it on and nothing! The Power Button was broken. It simply would not turn on. Well I figured it was damaged during shipping or something. Mistakes happen. So, I exchanged it for another and this time the Power button worked just fine so, after I had it all set up I clicked the Print Icon on my Cpu and wow the the Paper pulled through to the left and jammed. So I tried again after getting the paper out and it jammed in the same way again and again and again! Finally a spring popped out from the inside. Well Obviously I had enough and am now getting a refund. I don't know. Maybe I have bad luck or maybe Epson is starting to have some Quality Control issues. I wouldn't buy an Epson product again.

I bought my new dell about six monthes ago and this was the printer they suggested. I had not researched printers at all. When I set the C80 up a spring popped put from the paper guide. I was a bit worried , because I could'nt figure out where it came from. My copies began to jam , but with a few adjustments it's been just fine, without the spring. This is my third printer and the least exspensive. I could'nt be happier.The print quality is excellent and this printer is quiet.I'm about to buy a digital camera and put the EpsonC80 to the real test, but I'm sure it will pass.I'll let you know.

I am very happy with this printer! It works well with Linuxgimp-print drivers under CUPS.Advantages:Quiet.180x180 dpi draft mode is very fast.Separate ink tanks for black, cyan, magenta, and yellow.The print quality is great for most things, but don't expect archival-quality photos from this printer.Drawbacks:Large "footprint"The ink is kind of pricey.1440x720 dpi is SLOWAs with all inkjet printers, dust can create streaks in your printouts, so make sure it's cleaned regularly.

This is a nice printer, if you're looking for one which will dump black ink into the bed of the printer without warning. When I asked the tech staff about this, they suggested cleaning it up. Which I did, so the printer dumped again. I've been using the manufacturer's cartridges, so it's consistent at least. I really would have liked tech staff to answer my questions about what caused the dumping and what to do about it, but "clean it up" was the best I got. My next printer won't be an Epson.

I purchased the C80 and i must say this printer is simply amazing. This printer is the only printer out in the market with durabrite technology. This technology provides exceptional printing quality even on normal paper! Just print out a photo on regular paper and do the same with another printer. There is truly a comparison. The C80 durabrite technology blows the rest of the ink jet printers out of the water. Not to worry if your printing photos on glossy paper. It does an exceptional job as well. This printer comes with individual ink cartridges for each color. Black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. A very smart idea by the epson people. [Don't you hate it when] when you had the one color cartridge and you ran out of one of the colors so you couldn't print the right colors? So what did you do? Throw it out and buy a new one right? Well not anymore... thanks to the individual cartridge. When you make colors you don't use the same porportion of ink from all color pallettes.. you end up using more from one color then the other. So forget one color cartridges anymore.. that's a thing of the past. The individual cartridges are reasonably priced too. And you can make lots of prints before running out of ink. Its exceptional value is an added plus. On top of that, you also get Epson's micro piezo technology. I have no problems with this printer so far. As long as you maintain the printer properly you won't have any problems or hassles. So read the user manual that most people neglect. I been a loyal epson customer for over 3 years. They make excellent products. The customer support is alwayz friendly and ready to help. This is a great product for those who do application printing and photos. This is a very versatile printer, i'm very happy with it... thanks epson.. keep making new products to keep me happy!

I own 4 Epson inkjet printers and was expecting the usual trouble-free installation and use of the new and highly rated C80. Unfortunately, there appear to be real difficulties with the C80 driver software, which has in the press been noted to cause "occasional problems" with Mac System 10.1. This printer fared extremely poorly with System 9.04 as well. The C80 printed a few pages just fine immediately afer setup, then took 37 minutes to print a 4x6 color photo. At last, it simply quit working.altogether. Downloading the updated driver software from the Epson support website did not help the problem at all. Nor did two seperate half-hour consultations with the nice people at Epson's tech support number ( long distance toll calls), which culminated in their recommendation that I return the printer to the retail store for replacement. I did so, but had exactly the same problem with the second C80. I have since replaced the C80 with a Cannon S600, which works very well. It is worth noting that during the entire seige with the C80s I had two other Epson printers functioning flawlessly from the same Mac computer. Having been an Epson fan since the days when they were the only major printer manufacturer supporting the Mac platform, I am hoping that this problem with the C80 is something they will address posthaste. I have found their other products to be consistently excellent. Until then, Mac System 9 users beware!

A great printer for anyone looking for an affordable printer for Mac OS X (or OS 9). It's quieter than the Epson 740 I have and LOADS faster, and there are so many more print options, like an economy mode and double-sided printing. And the text quality even at 360 dpi on the lowest quality paper is really good.Best of all, Epson has OS X drivers for this printer and set-up was a breeze.If you print both text and images, this is a good choice. And if you're looking at the Epson C60, go with this one. Even if you don't need the extra image quality, you'll appreciate the faster printing speed.I don't know how the ink useage will be with the three color cartridge system compared to the (cheaper) single cartridge. However, I'll continue to get my cartridges from Ink4art.com. I've used their cartridges for my other Epson printers for two years, and their quality, service and PRICES are all excellent.

This printer is co cool! At first I was hesitant to buy it since saw some reviews that said that there was some kind of line on the prints, but I said I'll just give it a try, and I did. I could not be any happier. The prints are outstanding! When I use the PHOTO paper with the best resolution my prints look just like regular pictures (actually better). So if you're looking for a printer that is affordable and great print quality then you found it!

As an IT administrator for an engineering firm, extremely high quality is a total concern. Working with some of the most detail oriented people in the world, I have to be absolutely positively sure that all of my purchases meet or surpass expectation levels of incredible standards.This one passed. No one could tell which photo in my travel albums were Epsoned or Emulsioned.I have purchased the HP890Cse in the past and that printer was stunning for its time. However, we have found that with all HP inks, the colors shift badly under standard office lighting in just under a year. Luckily, the documents from the 890 were not reprographic runs involving digital photos. Forget that if I have to redo my photo album every year. This is a dirty little secret that you must pay attention to when purchasing any photo printer - IS IT LIGHTFAST? HOW LONG IS IT LIGHTFAST? WHAT THE HELL IS LIGHTFAST? etc etc...The 1270 uses inks that are rated for 25 years. This translates to 15 REAL years in the REAL world with REAL people.Other features of this printer include tabloid size prints and ink level status on the properties menu. If you're screwey enough like me, you'll find a way to reset the out-of-ink parameter on the carts and also a way to print stunning photos using KODAK and HP PAPERS as well as Epson's. I have dropped this printer from a table and wrenched jammed paper out with metal pliers (actually it was cardboard). It functions as if brand new ... well, almost new .... relatively speaking that is ..... sort of ..... you know ..... OK it sounds like it has asthma now.The only real problems I ran into is that Autocad plots do not print correctly using the default system printer parameter and only one page at a time can be sent if the 1270 is connected to an ethernet print server with no bi-directional capability. EPSON PROGGIES - PLEASE REWRITE YOUR DRIVERS.For truly amazing prints that SURPASS 35mm emulsion prints, check out Epson's Pro 5500. Its a printer that uses a new DX3 print head with drops that cannot be seen with the naked eye. I would not dare drop this one.

I thought I would take a chance and get Epson's latest 4-color pigment printer. I wanted it for an inexpensive photo printer. I thought the pigment inks would be great for their durability.I am overwhelmingly surprised. It exceeded all my expectations. It is quiet, fast and easy to set-up. I connected it to my computer according to the instructions and it worked immediately.If you are printing plain paper it is very fast. If you are printing photos I would recommend using the vivid setting on photo enhance. This is because the printer is being sold as an office printer, so Epson thinks it will be primarily used on plan paper and have adjusted the printing algorithms to such printing.The pigment inks make all the difference. If you need the best then go for the Epson 2000p. It has 6-color printing. But, with the 4 color of the 80c I was exceedingly happy with the photos done on Epson Premium Glossy Paper. They are better than regular photos. They are amazing. It prints with 3 picoliter drops so the detail is very sharp.Also, I did a test on the durability of the photo paper prints. You are unable to smear the ink right after printing. I then submerged a photo from an inkjet dye printer and a C80 pigment print. The inkjet dye ink rubbed off immediately. The C80 stood fast. I even increased the water temperature to hot and rubbed very aggressively and the print remained in perfect condition. I am sold.This printer is a great buy for a standard office printer or a photo printer for people who demand the durability of pigment inks at lower cost. As I said if you want the best get the 2000p. An added bonus is that Epson says the inks last for 70 years without fading.Buy it and have Fun.

I owned the old Epson Stylus Color II printer and decided to upgrade. I checked out the C80 and was very impressed with the speed and quality. The photo printing is extremely detailed and allows for a variety of filtering so that you can achieve the desired appeal. I have had many comments about the quality of photos, and many people are surprised when I tell them that I printed them at home.As for the general printing, I have to say that I am extremely impressed with the quality and speed. As an author, it is important for me to have a printer that is of good quality, and economic as well. I believe I found that with the C80. I was forced to print numerous copies of the manuscript my latest book, in addition to copies of the galley proofs. These, added to other things I needed to print, totalled upwards of 1000 pages of black text. That, plus the numerous photos I have printed thus far, and I still have almost half of the black ink cartridge left. Amazing!If you are looking for a printer that allows for great quality and value, the C80 is a great choice. The price is reasonable as well, considering that there are others out there which have a lower dpi, yet cost more.
