I purchased this printer specifically to print CD's. When I brought it home, I tested it on 4 x 6 Epson Photo Paper, and the reults were impressive to say the least. I printed 3 photos. I then setup to print CD's. the first dozen or so discs came out beautifully. After that, it was nothing but disaster. Ink contaminating the roller wheels for the cd tray has ruined the disks. After carefully cleaning all exposed parts and using all cleaning functions available on the printer, the same thing occurs. Once it starts leaking ink, it becomes a nice looking paperwight. I am days behind schedule. I returned the printer to the store I purhased it from and they happily replaced the printer without any problem. New printer, same problem. I can find no support at Epson's site mentioning this problem. The disks are good quality (Mitsui) and a bit expensive compared to standard blanks but I wanted a better product. I have $650 invested in this project. I will now have to buy more disks.If you are just printing photos, you will be very happy.But if you want to print CD's, I suggest another brand of printer might be more practical and less aggravating. One last thing. Epson's site has enough bad links to make support search a frustrating experience. I requested support via email a couple of days ago, still havent heard back, tomorrow I go the live telephone route and if that doesnt help, the Canadian Head office is around the corner from me, and I will take it directly to them. Stay tuned for update.Big disappointment.

Easy to use, good looking and good built in features.Bought the R300 mainly for its ability to print on cd's which it does extremely well though quite slowly (I can print an A4 sized print in best quality on my old HP in the same amount of time it takes the R300 to print a cd in draft), it also has a frustrating cd loader that insists the tray isn't loaded correctly, I've found that the best method is to line up the arrows then pull the tray out very slightly then I have no problems.A test print on photo glossy paper showed the image to be darker than the original but a quick play with the settings should sort that.Have now printed out over 50 cd's with no misalignment, smearing or other problems and the ink isn't being used as fast as I thought.I'd recommend this printer to anyone.1 star deducted for the tray and slow cd printing speed.

Don't be fooled by the price... this printer has given me nothing but fits. I'm an MCSE, so I'm used to dealing with software problems, but I've never encountered an ink jet printer this unreliable. Paper feed doesn't work 1/2 the time, and once it *thinks* the cartridges are out of ink, good luck on printing anything.Aside from that, take a look at the cartridge prices (if you can find them). $35 for a black, $13 for each of the 3 colors. R-I-P O-F-F. We don't print very often (maybe a couple pages twice a month), and we ran out of ink in 6 months. The only photo printing we did was 3 4x6 prints on the trial paper that came with the printer. I had an HP 855C for close to a decade, and I remember changing the ink maybe 3 times.I strongly urge you to find something else. Do not waste your time or money on this product.

I loved these printers at first. But like so many others the printheads jammed. One lasted a little over a year, the other ten months. I am getting the replacement for the one in warranty but not the other. How many loyal customers have they lost with this little number. They need to just give you credit on a better printer, but why would they? We just keep making money for them by buying cartridges and running cleaning cycles. Don't buy this printer!

Forget any negative reviews you read about this printer. My only explanation for those reviews is either those people got a defective unit, or they're one of those people who throw their hands in the air and give up if things don't work on the first try. The photos this thing produces (on Epson paper) are great. But enough about that. I bought this printer for one main reason... it's ability to print directly to injet printable cd/dvds. Doing so could not be easier. I will say this READ THE DIRECTIONS. They tell you how to verify the alignment using a cardboard mock CD that comes with it. Also if you slide the CD try all the way in, it won't work. Slide it in until the arrows match up (about 1/4 inch of being in all the way.) Not mentioned in any other reviews here is the software that comes with it for printing to disks called Epson Print CD. If you've ever used Adobe page maker or or MS Publisher, you'll be printing CDs in 10 minutes. Want to change the background? Click Background. Want to add a picture? Click on the icon of a photo, same for text, etc. Plus you can save your design to use again (or modify slightly IE family movies disk 1, 2, etc) For under $200 you can't beat it. A full set of ink (SIX cartriges) will set you back over $70, but that's true with most ink jets. If one COLOR runs out, you can only print in Black and white. If Black runs out, your shut down until it's replaced, but that's true of most ink jets. Buy this printer, then buy stock in Epson. HP better catch up quick.

Update of my first review below. I've now owned the printer for nearly three months and its everything I had expected. I don't use it for text so I don't know about its text quality, but its photo prints are awesome using Epson's Colorlife, Premium Glossy, and Heavyweight Matte papers which are good with the types of ink in this printer. Ink usage seems light. Its hard to estimate but I'd guess I've printed the equivalent of 70-80 4x6's and so far each of my ink cartridges seem to be less than half used. I chose the Epson not just for the print quality, which has not disappointed, but also for the cost of consumables. Check paper prices before you buy because you really do want to stick with the correct brand papers unless you really know what your doing. And DON'T use non branded ink if you really want pictures with accurate color......................I don't own this, but I'm ordering it today. It has exactly the same print engine and software as the R300 that's almost twice the price - I checked the specs at Epson. If you don't need the card readers or pictbridge, buy this instead. On the Canon printers you have to go to the i960 also close to twice the price to find a six color printer. Read Steve's digicams reviews of the R300 if you want to know how well this prints. The best buy out there. The inks alone are worth $70.

This seemed like a good value when I bought it. And it worked fine- at least for a while. But after 13 months of very limited use, it konked out-- yes, that's one month after warranty ended. And Epson wanted $10 just to talk to me. Skip it-- my Canons and HP's have held up better. Forsyte.

I agree with the other reviews concerning unit reliability and cost of ink. When the printer is working the quality of the output it good. After 10 months ownership, the unit stopped working properly. I called up Epson and they sent me a refurbished unit free of charge. However the replacement unit did not print at all. I call them back and they sent a second refurbished unit. This one did not work out of the box either---the printer head would not move. So I called them back third time and they are now sending a new unit. In short I have considerable concerns about reliability. In addition, I find the cost of the ink very high and agree with the comment around the high use of ink when attempting to clean the heads. I do not plan to buy an Epson again after this experience.

The heads need constant cleaning, and cleaning uses up a lot of ink. Cleaning often clogs the heads even worse. The cartridges are small and expensive. They have a chip that disables them after a certain amount of use, whether they are really used up or not. You'll spend more time and ink cleaning heads than printing. Print quality is okay if you can get the heads clean, and if you have any ink left by then. Built-in media card reader is nice.

I beleive no one has review this Item yet, so let me share my experience with all of you but when the final decision its come you are your own judge. Let's begin!At first I was looking for a replacement from my old printer, I when to some many websites to find out which Printer are the best for my needs than I found the Canon i450 looks ok, everyonebody offer a good REVIEW on it than I when to a local retail store in my area I purchase it I pay for a total of $49.87 than I said what a DEAL right than I when home I try it, Pictures very nice detail, than I decide to browse a little bit more over the internet, I when to EPSON website and guess what I saw this EPSON STYLUS-C84 I compare the detail technical specification than I made my own final decision of course cost more money, than I read the whole page but I still not convince I try to find some reviews but no luck then I check on different online store to see how much guess what SOLD OUT, SOLD OUT, SOLD OUT, from every where than I when to Office Depot Store they HAVE IT two left I paid for it right away. I bought this printer almost a year ago, it seemed great until now. When used properly it prints amazing photos on the Epson premium glossy photo paper. No one could tell I printed the images, everyone thought they were developed. Recently the photos became bad with line spaces. May be it is the generic print cartridges that might be ruining it don't know. After clearing the heads still get horizontal line spaces. Or it is running low on ink. Seems to be a pretty good printer for all other printing documents, no lines there(after one year).

I purchased this printer a few months back, it is a good printer.First I would like to say that I've read other reviews on this printer stating different types of problems people where having with it. In the time I've used it, I have not experienced any problems with it. Print quality is excellent. In fact when I ask people to try and tell the difference between the printed copy and the copy from the film developers they end up picking the copy I printed, thinking it came from the developer. In fact my printed copy comes out more crisp and clear. It is a bit slow printing, but I think that's why the picture comes out so great. Besides I won it on Ebay, BRAND NEW for $56.00. You sure can't complain about that! Good Luck!

This is a horrible buy! I have had this printer for less than a year and I have had to replace the ink cartridges monthly. If I do not get the double black cartridge, I have to replace the black cartridge every couple weeks. I do not do a lot of printing and I have yet to use it for photos. The cartridges run between $25 and $32 each and there are 4 different cartridges. I am going back to the HP, it may cost a little more on the start but the savings in ink are going to be worth it!!

Buy this printer if you are looking for something cheap to use for one - two years. I had mine for 2 years and after 1 yr it stopped working properly as soon as my warranty expired. This printer got minimal usage from me as well. It was cheaper for me to buy a new one than get it repaired. I am shocked that Epson would create such a poorly engineered product as I have used Epson Color printers at work and they always had good quality.My printer said it did photo quality color, but it was always pixilated.The ink cartridges were not cheap either and were hard to find.

This Epson 925 printer is the best I've ever owned. I've owned HP, Lexmark, and Compaq. This one is just the best. Easy, reliable, can use multiple types of digital camera cards, cheap ink refills and cartridges last a long time. I like it so much, that I bought a second one for my son. Highly recommend!!! Works great with XP Professional!

The printer is good and gives affordable prints but it is quite sad that EPSON spoil the impact by including incomplete propably refurbished catriges when you buy the printer. Also in genral color prints are fine but careful with document the black ink runs out before you know it. Overall good priter but the Ink esp. black is costly and makes you wonder.

I've had this printer for over a year now. I'm a full time college student, so I print a fair amount of text, and a few photos. It's held up well long term, and I've had absolutley NO problems with it at all. That's abnormal enough :) Also, I work in an office supply store that sells this printer, and it seems to get generally good feedback from the customers I deal with.I will say that for this price class, this printer is excellent. My only complaint is that it takes a while to warm up. After that,it prints fast, and it prints well. The photos off of this thing are amazingly good for an 80 dollar, textcentric printer; I've used them in presentations and projects. They're nearly photo quality.The text is sharp, clear, and readable. Printing rates, with text are good, with the photos, it's a little slow but not much. If you print mostly text (and a fair amount of it) with occasional photos, this is a great buy.

I hate this printer. I wasted my money. Having 6 ink cartridges is a nightmare as it will not print if you are out of ANY of the cartridges. Even if you tell it to print black ink only, and light magenta happens to be out, it will not print anything. It is slow to print. It uses a strange TSR on your windows computer. It alerts you too much before just printing. Who wants to configure a hundred things just to print something? DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!

The first moment after putting in the generic ink cartridge there was a message from the epson driver that the printout might be "different' by not using genuine epson. Correct: the printouts became terrible, smearing, etc.I have used generic ink before, no problems.I just replaced the black ink again and this time also replaced the color ink carts. Of course I cleaned the heads several times and checked the alignment.This time the generic black ink prints perfectly, but the colors are almost non-existent. Hmm, I'm gonna buy some more generic color and maybe the second round will work.

I have tried generic ink to save a few bucks. The color is not always right if you get a generic ink replacement. Stick with the original (since Epson will gladly exchange it for another if you are not satisfied).

BEWARE! DO NOT UPGRADE FROM WINDOWS 98 TO WINDOWS XP IF YOU WANT YOUR 1270 TO WORK PROPERLY EVER AGAIN! I have had my 1270 since Aug. 2001 and it has worked exceptionally well and produced award winning prints. I would have rated it 5 stars until I made the mistake of upgrading my system from Windows 98 to Windows XP. I had visted the Epson site to make sure they had a download for Windows XP, 1270 drivers. Sure enough, they did. What they didn't say, is that the printer really won't work at all satisfactorily after the conversion to XP and after downloading and installing the two programs from the Epson site. After three support emails, and, in their favor, receiving three quick answers with instructions on how to overcome the problems my printer was having, it still does not work. And, trust me, I followed the instructions to the "T". Why would Epson put the download on their site without making sure it would work? Entirely unsatisfactory experience. BEWARE! DO NOT UPGRADE FROM WINDOWS 98 TO WINDOWS XP IF YOU WANT YOUR 1270 TO WORK PROPERLY EVER AGAIN! I am writing the following months later: Now my printer works perfectly with Windows XP. Somewhere, somehow either Windows XP or Epson fixed the problem. Great printer.

I originally bought this printer at xmas 2003..At first I found the printer to be excellent..However,after a couple of weeks my problems started...The problems I had all related to the cd/dvd printing mode..The first problem was the tray refusing to feed itself in and needing to be "nudged" to start the feed...Next,after printing, if I was not watching what was happening the printer would continue to try and feed the tray out even when it was already out resulting in the "paper jam" error...On top of these problems on numerous occasions the tray would travel too far into the printer and on coming back jam on the drop-down flap resulting in another error..I returned the printer and a new one was received under the d.o.a agreement as it had all happened within the first thirty days..Again,at first no problems but within a couple of weeks all the above problems began happening again!!!...I am now in the position where I have to "wet-nurse" the printer by sitting next to it for every print job in cd mode to prevent the errors happening!!...I suppose I may just be unlucky but a friend is having exactly the same problems as me....Not recommended!!!!!

The quality of the print is not a problem; it's good. But it's not good enough to neutralize the expense and frustration caused by the requirement to replace ALL of the ink cartridges every time one runs out. When the cyan ink ran out, I tried to print in black only. It would not. I replaced the cyan ink, and it still would not print. It indicated it needed black. Back to the store, and I bought a whole set this time. After replacing black, it called for the other two. Finally, after replacing all, it printed again--in black only or in color. The ink was Epson ink. Epson Help just figured they all ran out together. Even the first time, I knew they wouldn't all run out, by coincidence, at exactly the same time.This has happened twice more now, and I am replacing the printer. It will be cheaper. I will not want to risk another Epson product, although I liked them a lot years ago.

I purchased this in Feb 03 and it worked fine and the print quality was great. Ink ran out and I replaced. I noticed the one of the nozzles was clogged and so i run the nozzle check, which I believe run a small amount of ink thru to unclog. Long story short, just when it looked to be getting unclogged, I run out of ink!!!! I whipped thru the ink in less than 2 hours of nozzle checking! I looked online as well and it seems I'm not the only one that had nozzle problems. I've tossed this guy in the trash and purchased an HP 7550. It's older technology but at least it's proven and the reviews are good on amazon and CNET.
