I am a novice,but I absolutely love this camera. We were able to use the camera within 5 minutes without looking at the instructions. It takes beautiful pictures. The extension view finder is so helpful. It is an easy switch between taking pictures and viewing them without using menu.

Excellent choice for the teen/adult who knows a little about photography, but nothing about digital cameras. I could take photos straightaway, yet 20 minutes with the user manual was also hugely rewarding. Camera is a bit bulky (fist-sized) and like other digital cameras, can devour batteries if one uses the LCD monitor a lot. I recommend getting some Energizer rechargeable batteries.

This is my third Powershot and they just get better. The video quality is a great improvement and the mute really works. Extraordinary value for money!

I thought my rating would help others who are looking for a compact camera. As far I know, this camera is a great piece for the price you pay. Many features will attract anyone, I haven't got chance to try all the features yet.

I am not Camera savey but I really am pleased with this camera.
I bought the 1G memory card also with it. There is sooo much to learn & do with this product. The easy options/pictures on the camera make it easier for me to learn what it can do.I found the other reviews on this site really helped me make my decision. The video option is the coolest.I am VERY happy with my purchase..........

I bought this camera to my brother and, according to him, it's such a good camera. He told me he can apply many effects using the camera that he was only able to do before in Photoshop. It's lightweight and powerful. I'd say he'd recommend it. :)

This camera has everything that you need even if its your first camera. The auto shooting is great, the macro its the best one I have ever seen.

Biggest piece of crap I have ever bought. Got it for my wife's birthday two years ago. Had to send it in for repairs right out of the box. Again 4 months later. And once again a year after that. With a turnaround time of almost two months each time, it has been in the repair shop almost as much time as she has got to use it.

The camera works pretty well. Price is nice. If you are looking for no delay after the shutter press, SLR might be your choice.

I spent consideable time researching the Canon A620 amoung many others. The A620 was my top pick in its class. Huge number of features for the advanced Hobbyist but also ready for the novice to point and shoot on auto settings or do video that far surpasses the quality of my 2-3 year old VHS-C camcorder. I Love it. Excellent all around. For full reviews I suggest you google "Canon A620 review". My only complaint is the I/O port cover is flimsy in comparison to how solid and well built the rest of the camera is.
Don't forget to get high speed memory for it. I'm using Corsair 2GB 133x SD and getting excellent speed and beautiful photos and video.

Started taking pictures right out of the box - the quality of the pictures is very impressive even in the automatic mode. Extremely happy with the zoom capability of the camera. At 7.1MP, picture segments can be cropped and printed as 8 X 10 while still maintaining the overall clarity. Very happy and satisfied with the purchase and the product!

This is truly the master of all trades. 7.1 megapixels is really as good as it gets by todays standards. The only other camera that beats this one is the Canon S2 IS with its 12x zoom, but even that camera doesn't have 7.1 megapixels, and is quite bulky (trust me). Canon really locked it down with the swivel LCD, which was a life saver while taking photos at a concert. I used a 2GB Ultra II SD card with it for hi-res photos and movies, and the camera worked wonders.
I have one or two very minor gripes with this camera.. but you'll realize that this was the only way the camera was sub $400.
- The red-eye is an issue
- Wish it had optical instead of digital zoom in movie mode
- I wish Canon would switch to Mpeg4 instead of AVI for movie mode (Better Compression)
I think its safe to declare that Canon is the digital camera king.

This well-designed case allows you access to almost all the functions of the camera---zoom, video, auto and manual settings. The camera is able to take superb pictures even with overcast skies. We lubricate the gasket, as recommended, each time, and have had no leaks. The picture quality possible with a good camera like the powershot S80 and a waterproof case so far exceeds that of disposable underwater cameras (I usually manage one decent shot/camera) that there is no comparison. Since you can take as many photos and videos as you want, and see them immediately on the monitor, you know whether you got the shot you wanted. We took some neat photos half above the water and half below. A flash diffuser spreads light from the flash, so that you get even light when you shoot that lobster hiding under the rock.

I just received this items yesterday and LOVE it! I was able to figure out the basics without reading the manual, which is great.
I'm writing this review to clarify one point. Amazon states that this camera has a setting for underwater photos with an optional waterproof case. That is NOT true. The underwater feature is on the A540 only.
I did not buy the camera for this feature, so it's no skin off my nose. But for others, it may be a big deal!

Very happy with this product. For this price it is hard to find a 4X optical and 7.1Megas Pix. It is very easy to use. The outcome is great. Easy to shoot videos. Highly recommend it.

The camera itself is great but the exchange I had to deal with wtih Adorama was beyond bizarre. After the shutter broke I had to send it back to the company and they told me that I;d not have to pay shipping again but then charged me for it. I'm still sorting out the details.

Message for the person with the defective lens cover:
I don't have this camera, but I did read on some other customer review site that some digital cameras come with AA batteries that aren't fully charged, and the camera has enough power to turn on, but not enough to properly open the lens cover and whatnot.
So maybe you should try some brand new batteries that you know for sure are in a good state.
Personally, I'm a big fan of Canon digital cameras. I've had an S400 for about three years, and I love it.

This camera takes really good pictures and has several features. There are so many setting that make it easy to take shots. I only wish it was a little smaller. I really like the pop out screen and it also will shut itself down when you haven't used it a long time to save battery power. Still finding new things that it does. I would recommend this camera.

I did research on digital cameras for one that was easy to use and took great pictures. This camera does all that and more! It was a decent price and the pictures that I have taken so far are fantastic!!!

Canon has never let me down (after owning three already). I love this camera. So simple to use. Take it out of the box and start shooting. I had to adjust the pixelation as I used out of the box (no extra memory) and because of the outstanding quality from higher pixelation I ran out of memory. That's my only suggestion. Otherwise sit back, smile really big, and say "Cheese".

Por the price it's a good item, it has 5 megapixels and 4 optical zoom, aditionally use sd card. Good Flash and you can add a aditional one: HD-FC1. Only we can't add aditional lenses. A540 do, but is more expensive (60$ aprox).

Great price and takes very nice pictures. Lots of features that I will never use, but nice to know they are there. It's a little clunky at times, but the great pictures more than make up for it.

First impressions after one week's use.
I can't fault the camera as far as it being an image making machine - it does the job fantastically. The immages are bright and clear - both in the viewfinder and the very nice LCD screen.
Of the very few pictures I've taken with this camera, I've found them to be truly remarkable, even when enlarged on my Epson Stylus Photo R300 printer to A4 size. So far, the only things that let the camera down, are the two plastic 'doors' on the USB cable port and the battery compartment.
They've got to be a joke!!! You will truly find much better quality 'doors' on cameras costing £5 or less!!
The USB 'door' keeps popping open and flexes like it was made from tissue paper - hardly something you'd expect from a lead brand camera such as a Canon.
Still, it does take damn good pictures though!

I had very good choice whem i buy Canon A620 with 1 GB KIT. Recomiendo a todos los compradores, que cuando requiera una camara compacta se decidan por esta excelente camara.
