Good mids and highs, very good base, clean sound, allthough for a great sound you might need an amp.
But all these qualities are surprisingly well-blended, giving a very natural sound to my ears. To me, CKS 1000 is like those "raw food" recipes that are popular these days, in the sense that there is nothing completely fancy in the sound presentation. But there is the sense of harmony of ingredients, the sense of naturalness and raw and organic quality in the presentation, just like a true, sincere and raw person who does not try to be someone else but himself. Analogously you can find a sweet and delicious cake or yummy and tasty pizza full of processed ingredients everywhere. A raw and organic dish certainly are no on par with respect to these qualities. But the raw and organic dish will always has its own place and virtue, for it possesses the sense of sincerity that nothing else can give.
One thing needs improvement is that it kinda hurt after long time of wearing.
Only real cons for me was the fact that the construction of the headphones was mostly plastic (which isn't really a big deal). Also, I'm a real bass head. (I want to feel the wubbs). When I first listened to the headphones, the bass wasn't quite as knock-you're-socks-off-powerful like i was expecting, nevertheless, the more I listened to them the more I loved the amazing all around music quality. So in the end, I would definitely recommend these headphones to really anyone.
Had a friend bring over his new Skullcandy Aviator headphones and I was admittedly impressed with its sound, but I found the two headphones to be comparable in sound quality. I do believe the Audio-Technicas delivered a slightly more powerful low bass tone. But still not bad for $120.
Bottom line is - if you're looking for headphones with powerful bass, I urge you to consider these. The presentation of sound with these headphones is amazing with music. It has a way of separating each layer of music so it's like you can hear each part of the song with unparalleled quality. The bass too. It comes in loud and clear without drowning out all the other layer of music. I'm a little bit of a basshead and listen to a lot of drum and bass and these are great. It has just as much kick as Dre. Beats and just because it isn't 'brand name' doesn't mean it isn't a fantastic product.
I would give these headphones 5 stars, but the one of speaker swivels in my first order became very loose in just one week of use. For $200 dollar headphones, I expected much better built quality. The swivels on my replacement pair, however, did stay snug for the first few months. Unfortunately, the left swivel did become more and more loose over time. After further inspection, it turned out that a simple Philips screw is the only things holding the speaker to the frame. Although it's a bit inconvenient, this is easily fixed using a small screw bit and thick piece of paper or cloth to prevent scratches. As expected, the tightened speaker swivel will continue to get loose over time. If you don't want to do deal this with this problem, definitely avoid these headphones.
I am able to wear these headphones for hours on end, but during and at the end of every listening session, my ear are sometimes left hurting. Although these may be not be the most comfortable headphones at first, they do become more comfortable as you use them.
Although these are the first headphones I have ever owned, I am really impressed by the amount of bass they deliver, especially when using an amplifier, and how it still fails to overshadow all the other frequencies in music. I am very satisfied by the ATH-WS99's sound quality and clarity. At my time of purchase, these headphones were $190.
Lack of bass aside, the headphones do have good clarity and handle high volumes well. Mids and highs are there with the highs not being shrill. Little fatigue wearing these. The headphones are fairly light weight and comfortable for the most part. I guess you could consider that the extent of the pros.
Now back to the cons. Due to the lack of warmth, poor sound stage, and inability to hit low notes, I assumed that my headphones were defective. I returned them to Amazon with no issue and got replacements. Unfortunately, the replacements sound exactly the same. Oh and the light weight plastic also creates a con. The right earphone keeps coming loose due to the screw coming out of the cheap plastic. I would return them to Audio Technica under warranty however Amazon is not an authorized Audio Technica dealer so the warranty is void.
Overall, I would say these would be good headphones if they were half the price. Otherwise, don't waste your time or money.
Theyre extremely comfortable for me, with soft and luxurious pads. The build quality is excellent, the machined aluminum earcup panels remind me of the chamfered aluminum edges of my iPad air.
Unfortunately this item is made in China, I had hoped it was made in Japan so I'm taking off one star pretty much solely due to that.
Also there is no sort of carrying bag or case, which is pretty sketchy but doesn't really matter.
EDIT: Honestly the reason i gave them a 4/5 was because i was nervous about its durability but after a few weeks of hard use, they are still good as new, id say 5/5 for sure!
However the design is terrible and feels like a 40 dollar headphone especially with it's very thin wire, not to say they don't look fancy, they look great but seem way to cheap for such a expensive headphone. However i'd suggest these headphones over any main brand products like beats.
pros:
-great clarity
-great base, sounds like theatre base, not like wobbly bobbly screeching my ears base
-look fancy
cons:
-feel like 40 bucks
-very thin wire, makes you very carefull and scared to do any quick movement with it on
-wire gets tangles very easily
This headphone is sound superiority over design inferiority, it's the king of products around it's same price
-I'd advise you to make it a studio-like headphones or maybe taken out on vacation, but not to take to school where they are guaranteed to break somehow
The sound of these things is outright addicting, they have punchy bass that does not overwhelm the mids or highs, although I will admit it does bleed into the lower end mids though. The ear tips these come with aren't awful but replacing them with Auvio tips from Radioshack definitely helped the sound quality, since the stock ones do not have a wide enough opening.
If you couldn't tell from the picture these are relatively, but not excessively, large headphones. And no, they are not the end all of comfort for in-ear headphones, although they are not uncomfortable. As for isolation, they are incredible if you can get a good seal (which is not hard); I can't even hear the person next to me talking, or the TV 10 feet away from me.
I mainly listen to rock and alternative, guitar sounds great with these. For just around 150 dollars from amazon these are a no-brainer.
The Grados are warm, balanced, energetically-bassy, while still providing a fantastic-amount of clarity, separation and depth. These headphones, on the other hand, were not warm or balanced. To me, they just felt extremely-clear and flat.
ATH-WS99 Pros:
- Superb mids and highs
- Very-comfortable
- Aesthetically-pleasing
-Comes with an extra-cable, which has a mic, mute-button and a volume-switch on it
ATH-WS99 Cons:
- Extremely-disappointing bass-production and execution
- Unreasonably-expensive (Poor price to performance ratio)
While there are, technically, more pros than cons for these headphones, the poor bass-reproduction is too-important of a variable. I would most-certainly not recommend these headphones.
Also, I often need closed cans to avoid disturbing and being disturbed brothers around me.
I first tried the WS-55 model in this same range, significantly cheaper, and they were good, but a little too much of the treble is absent. These WS-99's really add that back, and it's fairly smooth treble, and of course they pack a good bass thump also. These are amongst my favorite go to cans...I find them comfortable also. BTW - I also burnt these in for maybe 48 hours before giving this review.
