WD makes one of the best hard disk. We ordered 4 more because the Hitachi hard drives tend to run hot and crash. Never had that problem anymore once I changed over to Western Digital.

I've got a cheap Dell laptop, and this drive fits in it perfectly. My laptop now has huge amounts of room; enough so that I can set it up as a dual boot system.My only issue is more of a warning. If you are planning on swapping out your drive, first find out how much work is involved in swapping drives, and also whether you can easily clone your existing drive. I had problems with both.First, cloning my existing drive. It turns out that Dell formats their hard drives with 512 byte sectors, which means that I could not clone the drive with the software I had. Microsoft thinks that a drive this large needs 4K sectors, so you need better software. Make sure your software can handle it.Second, my cheap little Dell's hard drive is clamped to the bottom of the motherboard. In order to swap out the drive, you have to completely disassemble the laptop. Before buying this drive, make sure that you are willing to take your compute apart.Or, you could end up doing what I did, which was to have my local computer store take apart my laptop, clone the drive using their equipment, and put the whole thing back together with the 1T hard drive replacing the 500Gig drive that was already in place. A bit of extra money, but since they had to take it appart to clone the drive, it seemed stupid to not have them swap the drives, too.

"Arrived September 21st installed it, ran a ps3 update from a usb drive. Then I ran my restore which took about 3 hours. It ran games etc okay, but seem to be a bit sluggish in menu screen for my ps3 slim. I ran the ps3 recovery menu and rebuild the database and everything was smooth sailing after that. Thank you Platinum Micro, inc for the great service."

drive came wrapped in anti-static bag only.The protection against damage in shipment was only air-bags.So the drive may not be reliable for full warranty period,Drives from other sellers had substantial packaging.

Installed WD HD in Toshiba laptop, used Recovery CD that shipped with laptop to initialize HD. Then connected old HD to Apricorn "Drivewire adapter" to laptop USB port. Using Apricorn software CD to boot system I was able to clone old HD to new WD HD. Split partition and assigned each as D & E. Working just fine.

I partially purchased this drive because of the free WD Acronis TrueImage disk imaging software. The drive itself is fine - worth 5 stars - but if your current drive setup is RAID - mine was RAID 0 - then be aware that the WD version of Acronis will not work with RAID drives, nor will the upgraded version - you need to get the top of the line version of Acronis to make an image from RAID drives. This is not mentioned anywhere that I could find on the WD website. I ended up using the free Paragon Backup & Recovery - it worked fine.

Replaced a smaller drive in my mid-2010 Mac Mini with this one. Quick and smooth transition.The only reason for the 4 stars is that 5400 RPM drives are really unnecessary in this day and time.

Bought this to replace the first WD 1TB drive that was 12.5 mm Western Digital 1 TB Scorpio Blue SATA 3 Gb/s 5200 RPM 8 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Notebook Hard Drive - WD10TPVT. There was nothing wrong with the other one, I just wanted to put my OWC 240GB SSD back in the HDD spot and fit this into the optical drive spot. I used an OWC Data Doubler for this and it works a treat. The previous drive I had was 12.5 mm tall and so I had to put the SSD in the optical drive spot and the HDD in the normal spot (this being in an early 2011 17 inch MBP). This drive is nice and quiet, obviously has a ton of space and it sips power. Transfer speeds are very good, I used FW800 to copy everything over before I installed it and I was getting 85 megabytes per second on the high end and 60-65 on the low end. If you need a slimmer 1TB 2.5 inch laptop drive for massive storage then this is the drive for you. It's a really great drive and will fit in anything that will accept a 9.5 mm 2.5 inch HDD. For those of you with MBPs this will fit in the optical drive spot no problem and OWC sells the Data Doubler that is extremely well made for a great price. Coupled with an OWD 240GB SSD (dual booting OS X and Windows 7) I average 10 second cold boots, have a ton of extra space for both OSes (have a partition set up for both OSes without a single hiccup), and my battery life took a minimal hit. Used to get 6.5 hours out of a charge with just my SSD, I get about 5.5 to 6 hours now. That drop is well worth having all your data in one place without an external drive mucking up the works and Time Machine backs up both drives to my old WD 1TB (Western Digital 1 TB Scorpio Blue SATA 3 Gb/s 5200 RPM 8 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Notebook Hard Drive - WD10TPVT)drive at a smoking fast rate. If you're looking for a very fast drive with a ton of space and sips power then this drive is for you! It's a screaming deal so pick one up quick, you won't regret it.
