What can you really say about a drive when it is all working as expected? That's a good thing I say, no complaints, no problems, seems quite, never notice it running. As for what other's have said, the packaging from Amazon is a little questionable, but in the end, all worked out fine.

I got this HD with my custom built PC. 1 terabyte space is more than enough. I previously had a 250 GB hard drive and I only filled up 97 GB of space on it. Very quiet. 1,000 GB hard drives are the wave of the future at an affordable price.

I was a little worried buying a "bulk" hard drive, but I went to the WD website and downloaded the installation instructions. I am a photographer and keep all of my data on a separate internal hard drive (D) and use the C drive only for programs. I traded this for an existing 500GB internal D drive that was full. I renamed the existing drive to "Z", dropped this in the drive bay, hooked up the cables, and followed the online instuctions to intall this as the D drive. I transferred all my data over, and all of my software recognized this as the D drive as if nothing had changed. I have stored the old drive off site for triple redundant backup of my old files. I happily saved a few bucks to get the bulk drive.

plugged this into my HTPC build as was looking for a large, yet quiet and cool HD. This HD is perfect and performs exactly as I had hoped. The energy savings is added bonus.

I have had this hard drive for a couple of weeks now and it has been great so far. The price is great for the amount of storage on this drive. However, it does not come with any cables so you may need to buy an extra sata cable if you don't have one already. Also it doesn't have any install software or instructions really but it is pretty easy to figure out how to set it up and format it if you do a little google searching.

This Hard drive is great as a storage drive. It is quiet and efficient. It does take quite a while for it to format in NTFS but that is to be expected for such a large drive. It runs nice and cool so it will not add to system temp at all. I would not recommend this as an O.S. main drive. For that I recommend the WD Black Drive

I ordered two of these drives to go into a NetGear ReadyNAS as mirrored drives. They arrived in perfect condition, installed easily and started up immediately in the ReadyNas. I'm very satisfied.

I get everything our of this drive I could want. It runs very quietly and does not emit very much heat. It also comes with a 5 year warranty which makes the drive superior to many consumer drives and comparable to enterprise drives. I have not had a single bad drive and if I did I would not worry since WDC would replace it for the next 5 years.

I purchased this drive for install in my TiVo HD.It works perfectly so far (used for about 3 weeks now) and my only complaint is the very faint grunt it sometimes makes while doing some reads or writes.This drive works exactly as advertised and consumes less energy that other drives, so this is a real plus for TiVo users whose drives are highly utilized.

This was just a drive, no packaging, installation intructions or software. I bought this as an upgrade to my existing drive so I had to download software from a 3rd party site to partition, format and clone my existing drive. I would not recommend this for someone who is not tech savvy.On a positive note, once I got it installed, it worked fine. It's fast and quiet.

If the product breaks they will not replace it. No one at their call center speaks English. I lost a lot of data because of this company. Do not buy from them!!!

great product. 4 stars because nothing is perfect. the hd is installed inside my tower, i dont hear the heads or any noticeable noise when the drive is in use. i only use it for storing my media. i have read before that these large hd's are best for only using as storage and not for loading and running your operating system. the hard drive has been installed and running well for 1 month. i hope it lasts for atleast 5 years.

i ordered 4 of these drives and one is DOA, i shipped then by FEDEX 2 day service, and the actual boxing was kinda weak, light bubble warp in a small box each, and all those small boxes inside a bigger box with no more bubble warps or anything. just a plain box. i decided to order this HDD on amazon because the heavy protections they use to ship their stuff, but i guess THIS time they decided not to protect my stuff.those pics that ppl uploaded on amazon about the HDD shipping box protection was not true on my case...maybe because i ordered 4 at the time?i usually don't leave reviews but this experience had to be told. be aware.READ COMMENT FOR MORE INFO

I've had this item for a few months now, and have gotten exactly what I've hoped for-- a cool running, quiet, trouble free drive at a bargain price to expand my HP MediaSmart home server. The fact that it may run more slowly than other 1 tb's is moot for my purposes. Trust me, for server use it's plenty fast. Within my LAN, there's no noticeable difference for file serving, and accessing it remotely from even South America is never a problem. The media streaming from WAN situations is another story, but that may be related to the Windows Home Server setup.This is the bargain to beat for simple storage at this point.

I recently built a Windows Home Server and wanted to have an energy efficient Hard Drive because the machine would be running all the time. Based on my research, the Western Digital Caviar Green 1 TB drives where a perfect fit. Installed it into my new machine and Windows Home Server Formatted it without any issues. I can't hear the drive at all and so far no problems. I will say that the product is a bit expensive when compared to other 1TB drives but who's really complaining when you can get 1TB for under $100's.

I bought two of these drives to put into a NAS system (Linksys Network Storage System with 2 Bays (NAS200)). Plugged them in, the NAS formatted them, and all worked fine.

The drive came in bulk style packaging but was adequately protected. It is fast, quiet, and installed without incident. It is a great performer at a great price!Note that there are no cacles or screws included, so this is better suited to be a replacement than an additon to your system.
