I bought this drive to install in my first "official" HTPC build (I previously owned a prebuilt HTPC I bought on eBay) and it has been working great. It is definitely very quiet. In fact, it really is silent as others have said. I can't hear it over the case fans which themselves are very quiet. I've installed them in an Antec Fusion case that has a sound shielded hard drive cage but I still would have expected to have heard some muffled noise even through the cage.Western Digital drives have always worked great for me and this drive is no exception so far.

I am going to return this product because I cannot copy any files to it without having issues. I thought Western Digital made quality products but I keep getting drives that are DOA!!! In the future Western Digital need to make their products more user friendly and skip on the long names. Plan on me sending this drive back for a refund, if I cannot get it to work!!!

WD Hard Drives are one of the things I trust the most in my computer. To date, I haven't had any fail on me. Plus, these Caviar drives are really silent, which helps enjoy the quiet life working :)

I bought two of these drives to install in a D-link network storage device. They are mirrored and are performing with no complaints. Opened the box and slid them in the storage controller and they fired right up. It is a gigabit LAN on Extreme N wireless; the speed factor of the drives is fine with no delays.

I bought this drive after reading about some models of Seagate drives failing.. unfortunately I built three computers with Seagate drives with those model numbers.. Anyway so far I am using this drive running Windows 7 RC and it is working flawlessly. Very quiet and speedy for its specs.. its no 10k rpm drive.. but definately 5 stars for price and matching exactly what it is spec'd for.

I have been using this drive for several weeks now and am completely satisfied with it. I plugged it into a D-Link DNA-321 and it is whisper quiet while providing good performance. With the network enclosure, they both consume about 10W, which allows me to keep the power on the drive without feeling guilty about power consumption.Overall, one of the best hard drives I have ever purchased.

I bought this drive as a backup to use in a SATA drive dock but decided to use it as the primary drive for my system and replacing my 500GB. The 500 GB drive has always been noisy and this is really quiet. I am very pleased - so pleased that I ordered another one. I have more space and drives than I need but I have many pictures and back them up to a drive using the dock and then put the drive off-site (my office) and bring it home every two weeks and update my backups. That way if there is ever a fire I have everything from pictures to scanned important documents safely stored. At the price of 1TB drives today it is cost effective to have off-site storage.

The drive is excellent. Had I known that it was going to be packaged by a complete idiot, I would have never ordered. Surprised that the drive worked in the condition I received it. Almost refused package from UPS. Was in a box approximately 3"x5"x7" with ONE layer of bubble wrap around BARE OEM drive!!!! AND the box was crushed! The drive was flopping around in the box. Guess you can give credit to the quality of Western Digital that it survived. I ordered Seagate the next order, because they are packaged right although Seagate is having firmware problems.

Two of these drives were installed in RAID 1 configuration in a new media server. The mirroring process took about 10 hours. We have no issues to report; they have performed flawlessly. They are quiet; the only perceptible noise coming from the server are the fans.

Don't buy it for main OS drive. It is MUCH slower than WD black model, and not so stable. If you want something as a backup drive, this is a very good choice.

I purchased this drive fully aware that, as OEM, it would not include cables. I made the incorrect assumption that my new HP Pavillion would have plenty of available cables inside. It DID have plenty of cables. However, all of the available ones were of the older style not compatible with this SATA drive. Now I've had to search out and purchase the cables separately... no easy task... and will add several days to my installation. Make sure you have the proper cables inside your box to connect this drive. Otherwise you might be wiser to purchase a non-white box version with cables included.

The WD Green drive performs well and is quiet and cool.The Green drives have improved since their original release and some of the prior shortcomings (such as drive speed) seem to have been resolved well.Basically the drives work fine and I have not found them slow and they have been solid, no failures or data loss on the 3 that I have and they are running alot.

Solid Drive. Used as bulk server hot swap storage RAID 5. It is remarkably more quiet than some of the other drives in the array. Had concerns about the "Green" idea because of the server requirements - didn't want it falling asleep on the job saving energy when my data needed to be backed up. No problems that I can see.

Having bought seven of these over the past eighteen months, I'm very happy - not one failure, not one bug. They're a touch noisy, but not a major problem. Price has fallen in line with Moore's Law.Still, it's just a hard drive.

I bought this drive for Time Machine. I had it in an external MacAlly enclosure but it didn't seem to backup hourly, so I put the drive in the MacPro drive bay and it's been working perfectly. VERY QUIET. Good drive.

This drive is cool and quiet and large, which makes it perfect for my HTPC. And Western Digital honors its warranty, which is a good thing, because my first one of these locked up. The replacement is working great, and I didn't lose anything because I back up to a separate drive. I recommend getting two of these, one for back up. You won't do better on the price, and on the off-chance that one goes down, you've got your data saved on the other.

I've heard that this drive isn't the fastest on the market in the 1TB size range. That's okay for me though, as I'm using this as a wireless disk with my Airport Extreme router.This bad boy formats out to about 930GB of free space, which is expected. Perfect for my growing media library that currently has over 600GB of content.The drive works brilliantly in my setup. And it is quite possibly the quietest 3.5" disk I've ever had the pleasure of not hearing.So far, five stars!

I was looking for more space to store my photos and music, I did a lot of research and found out that this drive was the best option for what I was looking for, I also bought the Antec MX-100 enclosure and the match is perfect, the drive runs very cool even after hours of work, and is very quiet too.If you are looking for a drive that has lots of space, is quiet and runs cool, this is the best drive out there.

I evaluate drives in my work. This drive was used to upgrade my TiVo HD to improve the capacity for HD programs. I selected this drive because it has a much better power consumption profile than any other on the market. The performance level is appropriate to the application and the cost was quite right. Very low noise for the family room application and the drive spins down when not in use. (My machine is on 24*7 so that is an important feature).Tom S.

The drive works good. My only complaint is that you said there was free shipping and when I selected that and placed the order it said it would ship in three and 1/2 weeks. I then cancelled the order and placed a new order paying for 2 day shipping. Free shipping should ship within three or for days not weeks.

Two weeks ago, I replaced my 250GB data drive with WD10EADS. I chose this item because its cache memory is 32MB - twice of usual products - and its price is about $100. I am glad I made right decision. While I was moving my files from old drive to new one, I noticed much faster read/write speed from this drive. Copying 200GB to new drive took about 3 hours. I expected whole night to finish the job. Of course, comparing with old drive, I could seldom hear any noise from this one. So I think this drive will be my favorite choice for a while.

Pros: very fast, lots of storage space, right pricecons: First one crashed after three weeks, but amazon replaced very quickly.Have had no problems with the second drive, and I have ordered a new one for a raid 1 backup for my Dlink 323 NAS.

I bought one and have it running quite nicely in my Windows Home Server. The drive is definitely quiet. Speed? It runs fine. This is not an OS drive. It's more of a storage drive. If you're looking for speed, look outside the "Green" line. If you're looking for storage, and a great price, then the "Green" line is the best choice.I read plenty of feedback before making this purchase. The EACS got mixed reviews. However, everywhere I read, the EADS, which replaces the EACS, is a much better product.Amazon did a great job in packaging this OEM drive too. I've bought OEM drives from all the major online retailers, and I think Amazon did best.

Windows reports 931 GB. Great storage device. Great way to take my movies on the road. Handbrake helps me to get this done. USB is not too slow. HD requires 110 power.

This drive is cheap, has a very large capacity and is pretty fast for my needs. I highly recommend it. Tried Seagate twice and both times received drives that make clicking sounds (very annoying). Since then I am back to Western Digital. I have owned about 8 Western Digital Drives in my time and only 1 has failed.

This drive did not come with any cables (as described). Bought a regular SATA cable for $3 at a local computer store. Installing the drive on my DELL PC was a breeze. Made the appropriate Bios settings and the drive was recogonized on bootup. Used the XP Disk Management for partitioning the drive and formatting it. Absolutely no problems till now.

Really nice 1 TB drive. These green drives are really quiet. With my ASUS 1000HE netbook and this drive connected via a hard drive docking station, you can't hear anything at all when both are idling, not even a hum. Of course, once you start doing something you hear little clicks, but not the big time crunching typically associated with older hard drives.

I got two drives to install in a drive enclosure and mirror the drives. They are quiet, installed very easily. The enclosure is on my desk 5 feet from my ear and I never hear them. I tried to do research to get quiet and reliable drives. After about a month of service I have not had any problems. I would buy these again, and buy them from Amazon. They had the lowest price from the research I did.

I installed this hard drive into my new Dell desktop computer. It was cheaper to buy this drive and install it than to get a 1 TB upgrade from Dell. Installation was easy under Windows XP. Make sure that your system already runs SATA drives, that you have an SATA cable and a power adapter for an SATA drive (if you need one, my Dell had an extra power plug). You can find them on Amazon. Highly recommended.

With the days of low energy bills behind us, saving a couple of watts here or there can add up over a year. Not only does this hard drive accomplish this, but it didn't loose a bit of performance either. Factor in that it runs cooler then my other hard drives (HDTune has confirmed this), and we have an all around winner with the WD10EADS.It does seem to be a touch louder then my other drives, but nothing that stands out to annoyance.

Got me four off these 1 TB Green Drives for a NAS. So far so good. No problem whatsoever. For the guys wondering about warranty since Amazon failed to list it ... 3 YearsOops. I actually had to flash them to the newest firmware which solved apparently some issue. Did not had any but thought might as well do it now before I put data on it.

Great drive for the price! Just remember that this is an OEM drive and does not include screws or cables! I get ticked when people bad mouth OEM drives when they don't get cables and screws... you want a RETAIL drive if you need these items!

It works perfectly. I can't say I've saved a million dollars on electricity, but I'm sure it adds up. No problems yet. Let's hope it doesn't die someday. If it does, I'll be sure to change this review. (BTW... I'm using this drive in a Drobo.)
