Ужасно

Purchased this hard drive as I was using two 1 TB drives for my new PC build with my brand new i7.Three months later it's making a funky sound during startup and my PC reboots without warning. WHY?!?Oh, yes the hard drive is starting to crash. Maybe it was just time for me to have a bad drive. Maybe the Caviar Greens are CRAP! Maybe!Either way I still love Western Digital. But I'll never buy another Caviar Green. Can't put a cost on data that's not backed up.

Everything about this drive is great except that it didn't come with any installation screws. I bought this for an external chassis mount, and had to go dig up some screws to fasten it to the sled.That being said, 90% of your newer boxes (including my MacPro tower) don't require screws. I assumed screws would be included, and that is my bad.The drive seems to be working just fine from a useability POV.

I got this drive because I needed a quiet and efficient drive with a great amount of storage. The price was great and the delivery was a day ahead of schedule! So far the drive is running great; I use it as a media drive. Reading and Writing to/from it is fast too! I will recommend this drive to anyone who needs a new HDD at a great price.

I bought this hard drive for the purpose of expanding storage of my Acer Aspire AH340-UA230N Home Server. As it seems to be the only operating system that there have been no reviews for, I was a bit hesitant to purchase it. However, I have had no issues with this drive. Acer home server makes it very easy to install additional hard drive with front HD bays that are easy to open and require no additional cables. The hard drive was immediately recognized by the operating system, and it took very short time for it to be formated and made available for general use. The hard drive is quiet and thus far very reliable. I can't comment on how "green" it is, but I have not noticed any significant increase in the power consumption nor in the amount of heat that is emitted by the home server.Just a couple of words of caution: this hard drive is packaged in a bare-bones package, and comes with no instructions or other information. If you have never installed an internal hard drive, you may want to get some information online about what is the best way of doing it for your compute.

It is easy to figure out and install, if you have a mac; It runs fast and quiet, - reminds me of some nature sound. There were no problems formatting or partitioning as desired. Recommended.

For those of you with WHS and XP,approach with caution. The new advanced format, which changes the sector size of the drive, misaligns the drive when running on any OS before Vista. Microsoft says they are working with Western Digital on the issue in WHS. Until then, you must use the jumper on the drive.It does not come in the package. You can install the WDalign app or use the .iso file and burn it to CD. I recommend the .iso because you do not have to hack the .exe on WHS or spend hours aligning the drive(due to Windows interfering in the process). The drive performs reliably and works great. It is low-power,so I conserve energy. I typically have transfer rates of 50 to 60 Mb/s with this drive, with writing and read rates about the same. That 64 MB cache comes in handy.

Have not had this drive very long, but it runs fast and quiet even in an old uninsulated external case I'm using. No problems formatting or partitioning as desired.

it has huge capacity! my system:phenomII X6 3.28gb 1333mhzgtx 470and this thing. it does choke up my system from time to time. i might need to buy another cause this seems to be bottle necking my system

I've always been happy with the WD brand and the packaging that it came in will stay in my closet for later use. I like the small boxes that are better than those retail flimsy things with the huge plastic 'stabilizers'. The Drive is fine, I put it in my Drobo with ease and am now up to 2.3TB of redundant space for my families images, videos, and important docs. I especially like that I got this on the Amazon's Deal of the day (I got two) to finally fill my Drobo completely.

for the most part, ease of installation was my issue. inexperience with unformatted, non-initialized drives left me hunting info to explain why the drive was not recognized. learned something new and received a great product. note to new users. initialize and format in drive management.

I bought two of these drives and one was dead on arrival. Window XP could not recognize the drive at all. Also, I feel that Amazon packaging has dropped way below any acceptable standard. The box barely had any cushioning material. The inflatable bag only covered one side of the 6-sided box. This type of packaging is workable for books but NOT for electronis items. Because of this, I am now leery of ordering any expensive eletronics from Amazon.

I bought 3 of these drives for a Synology DiskStation 410 NAS. Installation and configuration was a breeze. I have the drives set to power down after a specified period of time, which they do. When I go to build another system, I will definitely consider these drives as my storage solution for that project as well.

**UPDATE 4/2/2013 - still working great!** -------amazon offered a sweet deal for this 1TB hard drive. it arrived quickly, installed easily, runs quiet, works great so far but i have only been using it for ~2 weeks. you'll need a SATA cable b/c it doesn't come with one. ours is partitioned into four 250GB 'drives' (music, movies, data and pics) to keep things running fast. in 1995, our first hard drive was 2GB and cost hundreds of dollars. LOL

Works like it should. Used with a Macally Enclosure, Installation was simple. pretty much plug and play. I now have a big, unique drive and saved about $50 building it myself.

This drive is a green drive, which means lower power consumption. If you plan to build a RAID, the drive manufacture would tell you not use green drive for RAID.However, I built two RAID using green drives and they all working fine. The problem with green drive and RAID is that if the drive went to sleep, it might lose data. I used LSI RAID card and green drives from different manufactures, WD, Seagate, and Samsung mixed to build the RAID. Running for almost a year now without any problem. I think mix different brands in the RAID may help the drive not going into sleep.I like this drive, reliable, quite, use less power than those 10000RPM drives.

This is the cheapest SATA's available out there even after two months since I bought it. I would rate it according to three thingsProscapacity : goodprice: bestConsSpeed: okayYou might feel the speed is a killer but who really cares when you are going to use it as a secondary drive. Moreover the price vs. capacity ratio as of September 2010 is still the best out there.I hope you find this review helpful!!

That's a good harddisk but the documentation about the Advanced Format give a bit of nervius at the moment to backup my important data over this disk. On XP SP3 has no problem later of install and run the software to aling the partitions, this software run fast over a empty disk (only partitioned and formated).The performance was very well over large files but not over a lot of little files... I readed "not recommended for an OS harddisk, only for backups"... but this disk is fast enought for my XP.

bought two of these when they were the gold box deal of the day and i couldn't be happier. i have a usb/eSATA dock that allows you to just drop 2.5" and 3.5" drives into it and both of these drives worked instantly. the drives are incredibly silent and should only be used as backup/storage drives since they aren't really the fastest drives around. i've copied a combined 900 GB to them already without any issues

This would not have irritated me nearly so much, but there was nothing that indicated this would be an issue. The first drive sent didn't work on anything, including a desktop running Windows 7. I set up to return the drive and Amazon overnighted a replacement immediately. That drive didn't work either, the "advanced format" seems to be a bit of a joke. The friend with a W7 desktop then suggested that we try to see if the disk manager was recognizing it and low, there it was. We formatted it and when I got home I installed it on my XP desktop (with a SATA raid controller) and there it was.

Great price for a 1 TB drive. Fast shipment and works as expected. It's hard to review hard drives since time will tell if it was a good investment. I currently own 5 Western Digital hard drives since 2005 and they all still work great. It's the only brand I will buy until something changes.

I had no idea I was buying a HD that I could not figure out how to install in a Windows XP PC. Sellers need to make clear to people what they are buying and manufacturers need to CLEARLY explain how to format and install these things. Even after talking with WD, I was not able to use this in the XP system. I ended up putting it in a Windows 7 PC with no problem.

It took about five minutes tops to pull out the old hard drive and put the new one in and it was my first time replacing a hard drive. Of course, it took a lot longer to put windows and all my programs back on but that's a given. The drive is quieter than the factory one and it seems quick although I haven't done any speed tests or anything like that.
