- + Тихий. Экономичный. Не греется (Замечено только если использовать его как второй диск на котором будут хранится музыка, фильмы и прочая ерунда). Прост в установке
- - Затруднительна установка на него ОС WinXP.
При использовании диска как основного на котором стоит ОС и/или установлены игры будет довольно таки прилично нагреваться, так что без допохлаждения не обойтись
В принципе диске...

Отличная модель
- + Если без лишних слов, то прожил данный товарищ около 9 лет (51008 часов) и почил на покой, что является абсолютным рекордом для меня. Супер качество и долговечность, отработал в среднем в 3 раза больше чем среднестатистический жесткий диск.

I used this drive to back up all of my media files. It worked perfectly well for two years and 6 days, then suddenly started making a clicking noise and died. Up until last Sunday I would have given it a 5-star review, but I expect hardware like this to last longer than 2 years.I know that nothing lasts forever, but it's always frustrating to depend on something and then have it suddenly break down, then find out that the company won't stand behind the quality of their product. I guess next time I should buy something from a company that has a bit more confidence in their ability to make a reliable piece of hardware.

I never thought I'd be able to afford a 1TB internal drive, so I've been sticking to external ones. This thing holds all the data I need - and even though it's still backed up on the externals, it works awesome. I always used to have to transfer data to DVDs or an external drive and it never happens now. Western Digital has never let me down, and seems to get the best consistent reviews as far as internal and external HDDs. Got here SUPER FAST for some reason - about 2 and a half days after I ordered it.

Even though my power settings for computer says do not turn off hard drive, some times I have to wait for it to start up to access folders. While watching movies, an hour into it, occassionally the video crashes and the folder with the movie file crashes. Probably the hard drive power saving technology. This is rare occurrance and could be somethign else...Besides this the hard drive is quite, is very fast for a 5400rpm drive, and hasnt died on me. Despite my low rating I would get a Western Digital drive again. They make great drives. Just probably a different model.

The drive is wrapped in a snug fitting anti-static bag. Then, it's mounted inside snug fitting "bookends". Basically, it's an injection molded foot on each end of the drive that keeps it suspended in the air. This GREATLY reduces packaging, but still provides tremendous protection against high-G shocks, such as UPS handling.The product box was put inside a slightly larger box with an air pillow. I guess they needed a second layer to protect against moisture or puncture, but that seemed a waste. The internal box would have been sufficient had it been taped and labelled for shipping.The drive itself is pretty standard for WD. It's lower power, lower performance, bulk storage. It's SATA, with command queueing, and a decent cache. That handles having a program running on it, plus bulk storage. This is exactly perfect for the design and capacity.If you think you'll make a RAID5 and run 5 active VMs on it, you're sorely mistaken. IOPS on this large drive is lower per GB than smaller drives, than SCSI drives, etc. Cache per GB is lower, even with the big cache. Also, RAID5 will cut your IOPS by a factor of about 3.5. If you want high performance, then use several smaller drives with 64MB buffers, higher speeds, and maybe even a smaller spindle, slapped into a RAID1+0 array.If you want something to store a boat load of data economically and with lower power consumption, then this drive is what I would recommend.UPDATE: I have this on Windows 2003 R2 as bulk storage. Initially, it seemed stable, but after 3 months, I started getting "Delayed Write Failure" and the device would go offline. Now, this happens about every 2 days.I thought maybe I needed to run the alignment tool; however, WD won't let me download it. One is a clone tool which will not install in 2003 because it's a server operating system. The other cannot be downloaded without registering with serial number. There's no easy tool to pull serial number from the disk while it's installed. The software didn't come with the disk.Basically, WD has made it very difficult troubleshoot this device because their custom software isn't readily available.I had similar issues with their 3GB MyBook USB3 drive, where it would go offline daily on both my Linux and 2003 system. I'm not sure what WD's problem is, but my supposition is that to meet their "green" claims, they're forcibly making the drive(s) go offline.Regardless of what's actually occurring, WD has lost credibility with me because of their green drives. A drive should work like a drive, and any custom performance software should be optional, not a requirement. Spinning disk should just magically work without any special 100MB enablement software. Etc etc etc.

About a week after the warranty expired the hard drive died. In the future I'll probably look to buy a hard drive from a company that offers a longer warranty.

The item arrived on time; but it was not the WD caviar green I ordered. They sent be a WD caviar black instead. Was pleasantly surprised since this is a better drive that operates at 7200 rpm. Bonus

I have 2 hard drives in my computer. One is for the windows operating system and the second one is for storage. I'm using this hard drive as slave drive for storage. Now I can store all my music, videos, photos, documents, etc. I just received it yesterday and I install it to my computer and then I had to create a partition and format the hard drive and then I placed it as a slave hard drive and hook up my primary hard drive where the operating system is and when windows boots up it detects my new hard drive and I'm transfering everything to the new drive so in case If I have to format the primary hard drive my stuff in the second hard drive won't be deleted. I just transfer about 200gb of stuff that I had. I recommend this hard drive for people do not want to loose stuff when it comes to wipe the hard drive.

I have confirmed that just beyond the warranty, which ended in August 2012, my WD 1TB Caviar Green is dying so I have to purchase another hard drive. I am frustrated with this because I have a refurbished Seagate hard drive that is nearly six years old (relegated to storage when I bought the WD) that is still functioning without a glitch. I plan to steer away from Western Digital drives when I purchase a replacement because this is the only hard drive I ever purchased that failed this soon.

We own two of these drives as redundant back-up drives in Win XP SP3 P4 design machines, purchased in 2010.I was impressed at first by the speed, cost and "reliability" of WD products. The XP installation was simple (jumper not included, but still easy none the less).Recently, within three weeks of each other, both drives have write failures and go offline.WD's Drive tools are skimpy at best, and due to the size of the drives, Windows XP Disk Management has little control.The concept of an inexpensive large capacity drive is wonderful thing, but these drives do not withstand the test of time.Once they've failed, (total loss of data), we've been able to eventually "service" them and coax them back into operation, but they continue go offline or drop out.Since data back-up is the purpose for these drives in our operation, we've little choice but to replace them with another manufacturer in order to ensure we've access to our data when needed.

From what I know, from being involved with the computer industry and building my own systems, being involved in technical support, if the drive works & continues to work without issues or problems, it's a good drive. I'm not quite sure as yet but I may be experiencing some noise as in a whine from the drive. Please don't quote me on this as I have not proved it as yet. It is still operating just fine.

There's an old adage... "It's not IF your hard drive will fail, but WHEN." Still, after owning dozens of PCs at home and work over the past 20 years, I never experienced a failure until 3 months ago.My work horse system at home is used for everything except serious gaming and all our family photos are on it, so I opted for RAID in order to have immediate backup. Good choice, since one of the drives failed after 18 months of use.No problem, I bought this Western Digital 1 TB Caviar Green SATA II 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive WD10EARS. I installed it and rebuilt the image and it was very easy. Unfortunately, the new drive failed after 3 short months. I haven't started the warranty process, but certainly expected more.On the positive side, shopping and buying the drive from Amazon was painless. It was packaged well and delivered promptly.This time, I did more research on industry failure rates and quality trends. Hopefully my new Hitachi drive will live up to its reputation.

I purchased this drive in March of 2010 as a secondary drive on my computer. I used that secondary drive as a layer of redundancy to back up my files. I was pleased with the packaging. I was pleased with the ease of installation. And I was pleased with its performance. I should add that the drive worked perfectly for a secondary drive, however I think it would have been a bit slow if I was using it for my operating system. Anyways, it ran cool and was quiet. Six months later, the drive starts acting up. It begins disappearing from my computer, locking up, and throwing out all kinds of errors. Since it is a secondary drive, it is quite easy to diagnose simply by popping the drive out. When I do so, the computer runs perfect. So after running the Western Digital diagnostic tool, I determined that the drive was definitely failing. I called Western Digital and they sent me a new drive under warranty. All I have to do is return my old one within 30 days. So kudos to WD for having such a great warranty process, but I'm very disappointed that my drive failed within six months of use. Hopefully the replacement will work better. Based on all of this, I don't know that I would recommend this hard drive to anyone. I've had much better luck with the Samsung Spinpoint F3 drive. And judging from the reviews, I'm not the only one experiencing this hard drive failure. So I'm off to warranty this hard drive for the second time. Unfortunately, warranties only allow for a replacement of the exact same product. Honestly, I don't think Western Digital could pay me to use this particular drive again. All of the hassle that comes from hard drive failure and replacement far outweighs the energy savings from running this "green" drive.With that, I can unequivocally recommend against buying this hard drive. It has too high of a fail rate to make it useful. Look somewhere else if you are in the market for a 1TB drive.

It took buying a second one to realize why my system was performing like it had a hangover. This Green hard drive is for someone who REALLY wants to conserve energy & does not care about performance. I like Western Digital® hardware, but this version of the Caviar(tm) lineup is decent at times but mostly lazier than the fat dog at the beginning of that wonderful SuperBowl® Volkswagen® commercial! I added this Hdd to my PC build. Its good thus far, at time i do hear a squeaky sound but its not to often. It doesnt ship with a Sata cable so be sure that you have one to complete you installation.Good Buy

I have purchased a number of these WD Green 1TB drives and almost all have now failed on me. I am a die hard Western Digital fan having over 25TB of Western Digital Drives in my office, but something in these green drives does not last. I will continue to buy WD, but only Blue and Black drives as I have not had issues with them. I use my drives primarily for video recording and editing so it may have something to do with this. I had one WD Green 1TB drive die in my HomeServer within a couple of months of installation. WD is great at replacing drives while they are under warranty, just make sure you backup before they die :).

THE QUICK TAKE: The WD10EARS is a new (shipping 12-2009) version of Western Digital's popular and successful WDxxEADS Caviar Green series of drives. It's a very good drive, but may need more thought than usual about whether it's the right drive for you.The Caviar Green drives offer low power consumption, low noise and moderate operating temperatures, while still maintaining performace good enough for many applications, such as networked storage. This new WDxxEARS series uses more dense 500GB platters - so a 1TB drive has just two platters, and several drives up to 2TB are available. The new models have 64MB of cache.ADVANCED FORMAT: There's another change as well. WD is using this series to transition to 4KB sectors on the hard drive; they call it WD Advanced Format technology. The long-term goal is to improve the efficiency of large hard drives, but as a transitional move they still trying to accomodate the 512B sectors that Windows XP uses. So the drive emulates that, using 512B logical sectors. However, they still claim that Advanced Format provides an improvement in burst speeds.ISSUES WITH XP: While that sounds like all good news, it turns out that many XP users need to use the WD Align software to setup the drive, which can be time consuming and create some potential issues in formatting and partitioning the drive, and in finding tools to do that.The exception is if you are using a single partition for a clean install - then there is an option to set a jumper on the drive before installing. WD has a table which summarizes installation at their "Advanced Format Hard Drive Download Utility" web page - anyone buying this drive should be sure to review that page.So less technical users may want to believe WD when they say "WD Advanced Format drives are specifically optimized for Mac and the latest Windows operating systems such as Windows Vista and Windows 7." This drive might not a good choice for some XP users - you'll be fine with the tried and true EADS series.VISTA AND WINDOWS 7: Further, cloning and partitioning tools might present issues with Windows Vista and Windows 7 as well. You can read more about the AF transition at the WD web page mentioned above in the AnandTech article, "Western Digital's Advanced Format: The 4K Sector Transition Begins." They note that as of 12-2009 there might not be any commercially available cloning and imaging tools that would work with these drives.LINUX AND MAC: The Anandtech article also states that current versions of Linux and Mac OS X are not affected by issues with Advanced Format, but discussions online suggest that Linux users seem to face some complexities on how to best partition and format to avoid mis-alignment.OTHER INFO: The WD site has a good whitepaper on Advanced Format. This is not the fastest drive out there, but It was more than enough for some cheap storage. I have bought 3 or 4 of these for clients and no one has had any issues. Great drive!
