I kept on running out of space, despite a 500gb external disk shared between desktop and laptop. Finally when I saw this disk on sale i decided to see whether it would help me get my storage situation under control. I was disappointed that it didn't come with an SATA cable--I had to order one immediately, and disconnect one of my other internal disks until it arrived--but that's the only negative I can think of.

The drive does not come with jumpers. OEM drives don't have screws or software, but since jumpers are required to use the drive as advertised with XP (there is even a note on the drive's non-static packinging to use a jumper with XP), they should be included.Western-Digital did send me jumpers and agreed with my position, but has no plans to include jumpers in the future. Be careful you know the limitations before purchasing, specifically you can't use the drive as shipped with XP without an additional purchase or acquisition of a jumper at a repair-shop.

Really nice - installed easily enough - I put it in an iMac, so getting the actual machine apart was harder than actually installing the drive. WOrking well so far, and loving the extra space.

I have purchased many hard drives over the years. It seems that WD is now the best bang for the buck and is really quiet. A great drive at a good price

Installed Windows 7 Ultimate fast and easy. Probably the easiest intallation Ive ever installed on a hard drive as it was already pre-configured for Win7. The packaging was excellent. Great price btw...

This drive is a very good one, great for backup if you ask me, the Seagate drives (usually 5 to 10$ more expensive) have a better performance. Still I recommend this drive.

Installed without a hitch on Win 7 Enterprise. Used as mirror drive with Windows 7 software RAID. Running great. Delayed in shipping, but the same good service from Amazon.com.

I bought this hard drive to replace an old 300GB Maxtor drive that I had been using in my HTPC to record TV programs. Besides allowing me to record much more than my old drive, this drive seems plenty fast for what I need it to do and the price was great!

Great product. Even though it is an internal HD, I use it as an external device. I'm waiting for it to become cheaper as it happens with media storage, though. The shipping took some extra time to happen, but I would recommend this product to a friend.

I'm using two of these drives in a Drobo 4-Bay enclosure. It's sitting in a closet attached to one of my servers, so I can't comment on noise levels. They've been working for a month or so now without any hiccups, and in my experience if a hard drive is going to have problems it will either have them right away or run for years. I realize that isn't always the case, but so far it's been my experience.

I bought the 1.5tb version of this drive from Newegg and had to send it back it would not work with directv. Earlier version of this drive worked fine but not EARS models.

This is exactly what it says it is. I don't normally write reviews very often, but if you order this directly from Amazon, be aware that you get ONLY the hard drive. It arrived in a plastic type of wrapping with no Western Digital box like you'd get if you bought it at the store. It did not include a data cable, or even hard drive screws used to install in the computer. So if you get this shipped from Amazon directly, just be aware you will probably have to get those items separately if you need them.

I added two of these 1 TB drives to my Mac, ran the disk utility, and created RAID 1 disk set. Quick, easy, and pretty inexpensive. I had my new 2TB volume ready to use in 20 minutes. Great product.

I am a photographer and I like to store all my raw images on external raw drives as well as on my Network Accessible Storage (NAS) system. I have bought dozens of drives from various vendors but have standardized on the WD green drives.Inexpensive, cool, quiet and reliable; can't get better than that.It is really nice to leave the dark ages with boxes of glassine sleeves storing the only copy of those special images.I am now buying the 2 TB versions for storing the VHS and DVD's. NO problems.

Bought this drive from a Gold Box Deal, and I'm pissed. I was going to use this as my main HDD for recording on Media Center. But the read/write times make it impossible to watch a program. It constantly stutters dropping frames and audio so that you miss 3/4 of the show. I'm going to end up keeping the drive and putting it in an external enclosure as a backup, and getting a new drive to record my media.

The I bought this drive for my Shuttle SG41J1 Plus and it runs very quietly. Usually, you can hear a drive while it is being accessed. It helps that this also has a 64MB cache, so it does appear to run a little faster too.

Bought this hard disk. It worked as described. If I knew how to do it, installation should be straightforward. I installed hard disk on other systems. You plug it in and do not need to do anything. For windows 7, I installed the hard disk and could not find it anywhere in windows explorer. You have to use disk management tool to format / partition the installed hard drive first before you see it

The hard drive was shipped quickly and I have no problems. Always keep in mind that the warranty period is 2 to 3 years and its more than worth it.

Bought it through eCost. Wasn't compatible with Vista 64, so I called them up, they said I have to talk to WD directly. WD washed their hands quickly saying it's eCost's fault. In the meantime i tried the disk in an XP machine, no luck either - so it was bad. Couldn't return it, couldn't replace it. I will never buy anything from eCost or from Western Digital again. As I am concerned, they don't exist any more.

This drive is only 5400 RPMs. If you are video or music editing (or anything else equally intensive), you will need a drive that is 7200 RPM's or higher. I found out the hard way. These large drives are great for storage or backup.

Wanted to replace my smaller boot drive with a large one. Picked this because of cost, "green" attributes and lower running temperatures. Certainly met all of the criteria. Running like a champ! One caveat, be prepared to run an "ALIGN" utility if you're using XP as the O/S. Will take a few hours (based on quantity of data).Highly recommend.

This drive has far exceeded my expectations. Having a 64MB cache offsets the 7200 RPM's. So technically this drive has a faster access time. Enjoying the performance. Please make sure you read some reviews carefully and not judging by the stars, because some of these reviews have nothing to do with this product.

I bought this drive to serve as a mirror (RAID 1) drive for my Netgear Stora NAS unit, which I use for backup on my home network. Installed this drive on the fly, plug n play. My Stora immediately recognized it and built the RAID 1 setup on the fly with no issues. Met my expectations without a hitch.

No problems with installation or operation.Unfortunately, a 2TB drive came on the market shortly after I purchased this one and the 2TB model was only $30 more.Oh well...
