This is a good drive no problems at all. Quiet, no bad sectors. Only negative is Western Digital's lack of customer service. I called the product support line with a question and the said they would "we will call you back". Of course the return call never came.

This drive was bought as a replacement to the 40GB drive originally found in my Dell Inspiron 8600. After roughly six years of use the original drive was showing the signs of the wear and tear it had received(yes it still works after all this time).The drive is whisper quiet and is faster than the drive it replaced;however this increase in speed is partially due to a fresh install of Windows XP :)The slight drawback to this drive is that it runs a bit warmer than the old 40GB hitachi and tends to heat up the left palm rest of my notebook noticeably.Notebook Hardware control puts it at ~50 deg C.Well the good thing is IT WORKS and it works Fast.!on a side note...Bitdefender Internet Security 2010 is a beast of a resource hog. After ditching it and switching to ESET Nod32 security suite, Performance increased noticeably. Bitdefender almost made me believe i wasted my money buying the new hard drive (btw the older hard had AVG free to work with and to me it is one of the least resource taxing antivirus programs out there!)

I ordered this 320GB ATA hard drive to replace my laptop's 120GB drive. I had a tech transfer the os from the smaller drive to one large partition on the new drive. It worked flawlessly. Great product.D

Wife's notebook computer hard drive failed. Unfortunately it's 5 years old and it only takes an 2.5 IDE drive. Unfortunately we do not have a budget for a new laptop so I had to resurrect the computer with an outdated 2.5 inch IDE drive (Most laptop now have Serial ATA drive now). It installed very easily but it is an outdated technology.

i gave this 3 stars on price vs value because you can nearly get a 500gb sata drive for the price of this ide one? but when your old laptop takes an ide drive thank goodness these are around! i have owned many other hard drives in my computer building time here on earth and i have had each and every one of them fail! that is except WD to date i have never had one of these drives fail on me and i have been tinkering with computers for 10 years now. so i guess thanks Western Digital, and amazon please lower your prices? :o)

I bought this as a replacement to my overstuffed and slow 60gb drive for my aging Dell Inspiron 8600. This laptop only supports 120GB so that's what I got. I am amazed at how much faster the PC boots, and responds in general. I can get another year or so of life from this old laptop for the small price I paid for this drive. It arrived in the original paackaging in perfect condition. One note on the Dell, it uses a pin adapter. Make sure you swap it to the new drive. I recommend using a backup software to run a full backup of the old drive, then reloading OS from scratch on the new and restoring data files from the backup. Much cleaner that way. Really happy with this drive though!

Great non-SATA laptop drive (which you don't see much anymore) for upgrading an older laptop. Works great. Very fast. I recommend everyone clone their hard drive and keep the old one as a backup in case of a crash/virus etc.

I installed this little baby into my 2005 Mac Mini which had experienced hard-drive failure. While cracking open the Mac Mini is not an easy task at all, this hard-drive worked perfectly once I got it in. It fired up right away with no trouble at all. It just needed to be partitioned using Disk Utility and then it was ready to receive the system software. It has now been in service for about a month and has functioned without any problems. And the price rocked, too.Highly recommended!

I received the HD about a week after purchase and it was in great condition. The information is fetched faster than the original hard drive. So far more than 1 month since the purchase and I do not have any issues.

Had to replace the hard drive in my sister's laptop. I could only put a max 120GB hard drive in this laptop - so I took the plunge on this hard drive. It is old technology (IDE drive), so the price tends to go up on these items. This one was about $65.00, so it was a decent price.The HD was perfect when it came in - no problems installing, formatting or loading the operating system. It was about $20-30 cheaper than getting it at Best Buy - "if" you can find it (Because it is old technology).

Disappointed to find this drive has only 149 GB of storage. Drive states it is a 160 GB, but only recognized as a 149 GB. Once Mac OS 10.5 is installed it ends up being only 134 GB on disk. Not happy with WD these days.

Needed to replace the OEM hard drive for my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. Had this installed in the computer in less than 5 minutes (only 4 screws) used Ghost to re-image the new hard drive, and was up and running in about an hour. Did not have to do anything special, did not need to format or partition the new hard drive. This is the way to go if your looking to replace your existing hard drive. So far the hard drive is working very well. Is faster, but that may be due to the fact that the OEM hard drive was going bad. Would recommend this hard drive for anyone looking to replace/update their laptop.

Like the wheels on the bus it spins a round and a round and a round and like the engergizer bunny it just keeps going and going and going......Easy to install and setup, works just fine. WD is normally a decent quality item. Not bad for the price.

Father's Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop died, This Western Digital (WD) drive used to replace an *80GB Hitachi TravelStar 5400RPM drive that faithfully served for over 5 years, then died. *(upgraded back in 2004 from the original P.O.S. 40G 4200RPM Dell drive)I usually don't bother with WD drives as their quality has dropped dramatically over the years. I needed a good, low cost drive that was Amazon Prime for next day delivery. It survived the delivery (was ice cold from UPS) Brrr! Let drive acclimate to ambient indoor temp.Swapped drives and formatted NTFS, no issues so far, loaded Win XP Pro, etc.. Long story short, the drive survived the cold, swapping, formatting, and running all night reloading 10 years of Win XP updates. So, So far so good. No issues since Dec 29th '09Time will tell. I rate its performance so far as 5 stars, 2 stars for WD's reputation, so an average of 3!

The interface on this harddrive was just what I needed to fix the laptop I was working on. Previously, there was an 80G harddrive so there was no need to put in anything larger. Most of the drives in the stores I looked at had huge capacities and prices to match. Thanks for saving me money and time!
