The drive came in a timely fashion and easy to dissemble. Meanwhile, the Laptop I'm using it with is not giving me optimum performance. I don't know if the problem is with the Laptop or it's with the Hard Disk.

Installed this drive in an old Dell Latitude C610 PIII laptop. Needed to replace a failed IBM Travelstar 20 GB IDE drive. Selected this drive since it was compatible. Utilized existing drive mounting hardware and connector with this new drive. It was sized perfectly. No problems with installation or compatibility. Reinstalled XP with no problem. Had to update the BIOS to recognize the 120 GB drive size. No issues there. Drive works perfectly. Drive is quiet and doesn't get hot. No problems so far. I've had it for about a month now.

I bought this Hard Drive a few days ago to upgrade from a 40GB drive, the problem with the last drive was that it was old and it was developing a lot of bad sectors, so with this upgrade the laptop started working a lot faster and now I have more space to put stuff. I didn't believe this 5 year old laptop could work like brand new again. I'll recommend this Hard Drive any time.

I bought this hard drive to replace a 160GB drive in my five year old Dell Inspiron B130 laptop. It installed like a dream. The included software made it easy to transfer all my files from the old drive to the new, and I now have much more room for my YouTube video files. Good show, old chap.

I needed a HD to replace OEM 60gb HD and this 160gb size did the trick for me. For Dell Inspiron 600m. A 10 year could replace this drive.Some things can be tricky..this is not one of them.Be sure to remove the plastic adaptor from the old and put on the new.Be sure to backup old drive if you can...I did not. I tried to retrieve with other software but it was corrupt. Had it for 6 yrs or so. No big loss.Also bought PNY ram for this laptop. Old 2x 256mb ram. Now 2x 1gb ram.Once again ..in my case....very simple. Google for howto tips and related info.Google is your friend.

Great value, fast shipping. I'm not a computer savy person but a friend who is recommended upgrading my hard drive instead of rebooting my six year old computer(which had become infected w/a virus). I installed it by myself one month ago and it runs like new.

A reasonable replacement (or, clone) disk for an old laptop (i.e. non-Sata).No complaints.It would be good to add "PATA" or "ATA100" to the description for this disk drive.

Great value for the money, seems there isn't a lot of difference between Seagate or Western Digital. They seem to hold up under rugged field conditions in a laptop.

Ordered the WD to replace the hard drive (30 gig) in my Dell Inspiron 6000. It took about 5 days to arrive, and I was able to image my old hard drive and restore the image to this one. I had a minor glitch with the computer not recognizing the extra space, but all I had to do was resize the partition and everything worked perfectly. Overall, I am very happy with it.

A bit on the pricey side, but those who don't want to spend an arm and a leg buying a new laptop just for more space, this product is it. Some operating systems may not register the whole drive, formatting the other space with a free partitioner will do the trick in using all the space.This will come barebones, so take out all the stuff that holds the old HDD to the laptop, strip everything off of it and put them on the new one, and you're good to go.

I have used this drive numerous times in older laptops. The speed and size is great for the price. It always amazes me how fast these are compared to the original hard drives.

I just recently installed this 160GB Western Digital drive in my old Dell Inspiron 6000 and so far it is running fine...BUT, it randomly clicks every 30 seconds or so which is pretty damn annoying. Unfortunately I had this problem with the stock hard drive that originally came with this laptop and had to go through 2 replacement drives before discovering a Fujitsu drive that was quiet - but had a recent failure.My old drive may actually still be OK and had just shut down automatically due to overheating (if it has this function), but it was already 5 years old and a bit on the small side, so it was a good excuse to upgrade. One thing I did which seemed to make a HUGE difference during the upgrade: I cleaned the dust out of the entire laptop with an air compressor. Not just one of those wimpy office duster cans, but an actual air compressor at 90 psi. A cloud of dust came out of the laptop, even though it appeared pretty clean from the outside, and now the fan runs much, MUCH slower than it had run in years, and the computer is generally cooler as well. I would actually venture to guess that this was the real cause of the drive failure. Of course this isn't going to solve the overheating problems of all laptops, but I'll bet most computer owners never blow out their laptops like this, but they really should, and annually. From now on I'm going to do this regularly! Just a note that if you're going to blow out the dust with 90 psi, don't jam the blower nozzle right into the laptop or you might damage components with the strong pinpoint force of air. Hit it from at least several inches away or lower the pressure to, say 30 or 40 psi...Some people were having problems with their Dell Inspiron 6000 not recognizing more than 128GB on this drive, but I didn't have this problem. I did upgrade the BIOS firmware and installed Windows XP Service Pack 3 so that might have helped. Another tip for Inspiron 6000 users: this laptop has a crappy cooling system design and vents on the bottom left, so if you like to actually have the laptop in your lap (like me) you should buy a hard placemat and put the laptop on the mat. I know, this kind of sucks, but not only does it unblock the vent but it also insulates the laptop from heat from your legs. The hotter your machine runs, the shorter its life will be.

Installed as a replacement drive in a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop after the original drive started to give up. Did research at Dell and other websites, got good info on the type of drive that seemed to work best. Laptop and drive work great. Drive is fast and quiet. It was very easy to install. I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

I have had this PATA drive for almost 2 months. My laptop is Western Digital WD1200BEVE 120 GB 5400RPM IDE 8 MB Notebook Hard Drive (2.5 inch)on 24 hours a day andI am constantly using diiferent applications that require disk read/write operation. This hard disk works super fast and incredibly quietly. I strongly recommend this to those who like their old laptop and like to upgrade its hard drive.

Western Digital and Amazon have done it again. WD is by far the most reliable hard drives on the market as I have been running them for more than 10 years on the same compuer. I am still running Windows ME as originally installed on my Dell Inspiron 8100. With mirroring hardware and software this can be done by anyone. Amazon got me the best price and delivery was quick. BTW, I am still running Netscape and can usually go to any website with ease.

I was out of space on my original 30GB drive. I used a USB/IDE adapter and the WD program I downloaded from their web site to transfer the image of my original drive. This worked perfectly. The new drive booted up without a hitch. I am very satisfied with the drive and it appears to be slightly faster than the original. I no longer have to worry about managing file space.

Got a great deal on this drive. I was looking to upgrade an old lap top and found this drive for a great price. Previously owned , but never opened. Worked great I have used western Digital drives before and have never had a problem.

Purchased to replace the HD in an older Toshiba laptop. Now, I've got an additional PC that I can take with me for web & email access while on the road. The drive is a good value. I've purchased other WD products and am satisfied with their performance and customer support.

The Western Digital 80GB drive was exactly the one I was looking for and Amazon offered the best price with fast, free delivery. Installation was quick and the computer was up an running on the first re boot. Its been running for a month with no problems.
