As usual, Amazon delivered fast and without any problems. The drive itself, although I bought it just a few weeks ago, has so far performed flawlessly and reliably. It is small and has a nice feel to it -- I personally am not a fan of the shiny fingerprint magnets that you see so often with external hard drives, so I actually really like the rubbery surface (which, by the way, creates some traction and thereby decreases the likelihood of you dropping the thing). After several hours of very quiet operation, it did not appear to generate a lot of heat. Also, no issues with power -- one USB port is sufficient. It is probably not the fastest drive available, hence four instead of five stars, but overall it's a great product and I am happy I bought it. Will probably buy another one or two.

After carefully researching several sources on portable drives, I was wary of the promises made. Indeed even CNET blog experts said that most of their experience and users felt that portable disk drives had bad experiences. Well Transcend is an exception. Not only could I use the drive flexibly, target certain files that I wanted to remove from my hard drive but it works perfectly.

These things are GREAT!! I have one and bought three more for other members of my family. There is a second USB connector on the wire for your convenience. If you use a USB remote hub without a power supply the second plug helps supply the power needed...good designing! If you use a good strong USB port on your computer and don't want to tie up two ports, the second connector doesn't have to be used. I use mine with a powered 4 port mini hub five feet away from my PC and it works great with one plug connected. My wife uses her's on a non powered mini hub and needs to use both USB plugs (connectors).It has a soft grip coating and is immune to shock from dropping. I proved that accidently.We think their the best on the market!

Sleek, durable and a bit faster then my old Seagate, this 2.5" external hard drive comes out of the box ready to perform. This stealthy system is lightweight and packed with a 500GB external hard drive that simply leaves the higher priced competition in the dust.Its fitted with a one button setup on top of the unit. Simple to use, the drive can be set to remember the files/folders to store in the preferences folder. With the installed software package, scheduling backups and setting security levels is not that much of a task. File compression is always a good choice to remember. All in all, the jury is still out when it comes to the on board StoreJet software. The only thing missing is Firewire support.The StoreJet 25 is built around a standard 2.5 inch SATA hard disk that spins at 5,400 rotations per minute with 8MB of cache. Powered via USB port, the drive draws its juice directly from the host sytem. Speed read is rated up to 28 megs per second and write speeds cruised in at 24 megs. This system is encased in a solid red or black colored, military grade impact resistant shell.Built for portability, the unit measures 4.5" H x 3.2" W x 0.6" D. It weighs in at almost 8 ounces and comes with the standard Transcend 2 year product warranty. The manufacturer's website is surprisingly helpful and loaded with useful information. A toll free customer support phone number as well as supporting links are posted.This unit has taken to being banged around while on the road quite well. Its still up and running. I bought this hard drive over seven months ago. I have taken it across the world and so far it has held up very well. The real test came a couple of weeks ago when it was plugged into my laptop, which had been placed on a dresser in a room with a hard tile floor. A family member took the laptop out of the room, which was now dark, not thinking the Transcend drive was plugged in. The hard drive fell to the floor. The Transcend hard drive survived the 4 1/2 foot drop and is working great. Not only does it work great it also shows no signs of the fall. A previous external hard drive that I have used cracked when it eventually fell, this product has met and exceeded my expectations.

I am very pleased with the ease of use and how portable it is. It was easily recognized by my new installation of Windows 7. I have found that both ends of the Y USB cable need to be attached for it to be fully functional on my Dell Studio XPS 16. The read speed seems to be faster than the write speed, which never lives up to USB 2.0 potential. I am generally very pleased with this product and would recommend it, especially considering the low price with the amount of storage space. I have not tried to drop it to see if it lives up to military standards, but it is very sturdy and sits stable on a flat surface as the surface is a silicone. Overall very good product.

Wow!!! I have had this Transcend 500gb portable hard drive for only a short time but like I said to start this review off WOW!! I have been looking at the portable drives for a while and just thought I'd give this one a try as it has had pretty good reviews. I have been putting my pics,videos on my flash drive and wanted to get another way to put my stuff on as well and with way more storage on it. This drive blows me away!! It i think is lightning fast and also durable and I would Highly recommend it to anyone looking for something to put the stuff on they want to keep in case of that dreaded computer crash that I as well as alot of people have had. I learned the hard way about this as i had all my pics,music etc. on my other computer and it crashed and I lost it all. I was not very happy as you can imagine. I havent loaded the software on this and don't really think i would need it but as far as puting stuff on it it is very fast. I would say to anyone looking for one of these to try out this one as I really love it.

Got it a few weeks ago and have backed up everything on my iBook. All works as promised. I'm giving the product 4 stars only because, while it does promise Mac compatibility, it doesn't tell you that the included software does not work with Macs. So Mac users need to do all their backing up manually.The speed of the connection is slower than I would like (it took several hours to back up about 60GB); however, I don't really know what is normal in this price range with a USB connection (my laptop is fairly old and doesn't have Firewire) so speed didn't enter into my rating.

Didn't know of this brand, after a research on Google comparing the different anti-shock portable drives. Trying to look for something that is fast, durable and anti-shock prove to replace my current 160gb WD and Maxtor drive which failed due to a low fall. My new Transcend drive doesn't only has a great durable casing, that also feals great, but is also fast using USB2 and is wright for the price. If your are working in environment were your portable drive might fall are needs to withstand shocks, this one is recommended.

I did a thorough review of the brands and hard drives available at the time, quite worried about all the horror stories of lost data. We use this as our main home hard drive, swapping it between our 3 computers. We move it around a lot, and the anti-shock housing makes us feel better than other models we have. Also it has some grippy rubber ou its outside, so is less likely to slip and fall (which we all know can be fatal to our data). After a few month using it, it has served us very well!!

Good price, nice size (and color), and rugged. It took me a few sittings to understand how to use the storejet, but I'm happy with it so far. Store mostly videos and pictures and songs, and there's still plenty of capacity left.

I give this product a 5 star review, could not fault it in any way i took it out of the box and it worked out fine. the software with the product can be installed or not but the drive works great either way.i have 3 computers and i swap this drive about between the 3 and encountered no problems.I will not drop the thing on purpose but it sure looks like it could stand it. it looks and feels solid and robust and the supplied cable although a bit short fits tight and snug into the drive.I did a great deal of research into purchase of a drive and i am glad i chose this one.

In response to an earlier reviewer, this portable hard drive is NOT that light weight NOR is it that fast--not compared to my Seagate portable hard drive, also 500gb. On the other hand, I've had two Seagate notebook drives that died on me, so I got a good warranty to go with this Seagate portable as I don't know how long I can really trust it. I purchased the Transcend drive because I have a 16gb Transcend flash drive that works well, so I thought I'd try Transcend's portable hard drive (500gb, shock resistant) to back up my dissertation work. It seems to work well, but it took FOREVER (more than two hours!) to synchronize my documents, much longer than the Seagate (about an hour). I'm hoping that the fact that it's so "tough" and drop-resistant will make it a good choice, instead of a second Seagate.

Drive is small, simple to set up and use daily. I bought 2 and swap one every day, taking the other home. Fits in my pocket, no more bulky cases to carry.

I've only used this for about a month, but I've had no problems. It easily connected with my Mac and backed everything up. It did it fast and the device did not get hot. It seems durable but I haven't dropped it to find out!

This drive looks good and works well. The bundled software is slightly cryptic, and not very versatile. I wanted to use this drive with Acronis True Image 2010, but was unable to take advantage of all of Acronis' features because this is a FAT32 drive. Old technology. Fortunately, I was able to reformat it as NTFS without difficulty. Also, this drive uses two USB ports via a Y connector, and can only be attached to the computer, not a USB hub. Despite these drawbacks, I would buy it again.

I was looking for a hard drive for my fiance. I wanted it to be something very reliable. After reading multiple reviews all over the internet I picked this one. Of course you should treat any electronics with great care, but in case something happens it is a good feeling to have a peace of mind that the product will withstand the accident. The size to price ration also makes it a great buy. Automatic back-up feature is somewhat useless, since she has a Mac, nothing beats Time Machine. I plan to buy it for myself as well in a little bit. It is fast and very light. Great buy all around!
