So convenient! I have been using flash drives to keep my work organized and this Transcend external hard drive just makes all so much simpler. I work with a cloud and the hard drive now and feel my material is much safer and more protected than ever.

Extremely satisfied with the Transcend External Hard Drive. Very flexible and forgiving from a operational standpoint just think the case should have been included with the Drive.

I have this hard drive since late 2009.I have stored all my data on that.and in simply moving 8 gb folder from it to my laptop,it suddenly crashed,and my laptop aswell.I could recover my laptop to latest recovery date,but my drive is struggeling several time and,finally ask me to format it.I do not what to do,and also,if computer gigs in frys and bestbuy can help me.

I use to back up another Trancend drive I have. It requires 2 usb ports to power. So when I am backing up files I have to use a wireless key board or mouse. I am okay with this purchase.

This worked well for a six-month period, and then nothing.The problem is that the software is often unable to recognize the product, and it's a real struggle to get through to it..another person mentioned the difficulty of getting to the site for help, and I experienced the same.I too had another problem: it always backs up EVERYTHING! Not just the stuff that's new...EVERYTHING. That is a big problem, and shuts my laptop down for use for quite a while, so I have to back it up before I go to bed or leave the house only.I really thought Transcend had a good product report, and I know this particular product reviewed well, but no by me. I'm very disappointed.

The drive was inadvertently left on my boat, for a week, of which 3 of those 7 days it was soaked in Seattle rain. I thought I had lost the drive, so was pleasantly surprised to see it on the boat. Then, realizing it had been exposed to a week of rain I figured it may as well still be lost. Shocked and awed was I when the drive fired up.The drive is also fast and has a nice feel to it - probably from the anti-rain coating. I've gone through maybe 10 portable drives and this one is the best so far - and would buy it again.Mike

I purchased this to store all of my pictures from my old PC (wanted to get rid of it) and on my Mac. It didn't come with any directions at all and I still haven't figured it all out but still trying. Just frustrating since it said it was an easy plug in for both computers and it really isn't.Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I honestly don't think I am.

The hard drive works well and has a solid, quality feel to it. I have no complaints.It came with a backup program pre-installed which I thought was pretty unimpressive, and I removed it in favor of the synch programs I already have that I prefer (Allway Sync and GoodSync). Also, I think it would be a good idea if the manufacturer let people know that it really needs to be reformatted to NTFS if anything large is to be stored on it. The reformatting is pretty simple and painless, but figuring out that I needed to do it wasn't. Also, it requires two usb ports for power and comes with a warning not to use just one because the hard drive could be damaged. I don't find that to be a problem, but it's something to be aware of.I also have a Toshiba external hard drive that's several years old. I prefer the Toshiba, which is lighter, seems faster and only requires one usb port for power. But if you need something more durable for travel, as I do, the Transcend is probably a better choice.

Just received it today, and transferred 200 GB within a few hours. Came as 590 GB instead of 640, but I guess that's the GiB/GB difference? Smaller than the size of my palm, lightweight, shock-proof rubber shell. Requires 2 USB inputsThe software provided is fast and efficient, but difficult to control. It's simple, but almost a little too simple--I added one folder and it automatically synched beautifully, but the other folders I added didn't synch at all. This is when I made the mistake of pressing "synchronize". As I type, it' 3 AM in the morning--that one button made the whole hard drive re-transfer that 200 GB. There was no way to shut it down or safely remove the hardware, so I'm literally just waiting for it to finish. My laptop's fan has gone to hell, so it overheats pretty quickly (especially if left on all night). I'm so tempted just to yank it out..**EDIT**Do NOT rely on the provided software to back up your data. MANUALLY transfer files. I noticed some discrepancies in the folder sizes from the original and the hard drive copy, which led me to realize that some of the files never transferred over. For example, I synced 'My Documents', but none of my music transferred over.

I bought this hard drive as a replacement to my ipod; my car has a usb port, which meant that I was finally able to rid myself of my ipod and itunes in one fell swoop. The appeal of this product is the anti-shock rating. I figured that being in the car, it was bound to suffer a fair amount of vibration and a little abuse. So far, it's worked like a charm.Out of the box, the drive came with a usb cord that required two ports on the Pc to connect, which I found a little ridiculous. After testing it with a spare usb cord, I found that it connected with no troubles, so I packed the supplied cord away. That cord was my one complaint, but since it was resolved so easily, it's no big deal.I've had no issues with the drive, it connects quickly and, although a bit long in comparison to other portable drives, it is not at all intrusive in my car's small armrests compartment. Now I just have to see how long the dang thing holds up!

*Product was not recognized by my computer, and then when I sought help from the manual, the incorrect webpage address is listed. (real webpage contains a dash, not a period)*By the time I finally located the help section on the actual webpage the letters changed to Asian symbols even though the language was selected as English.*Only positive about this experience was that Amazon refunded me without any questions asked.
