I'm writing this review literally 5 mins after my drive fell on my foot ... not the ground, now the shock proof enclosure is ruined. And its the second one to go bad. I will stick to Western Digital, my old passport as been through a lot more and survived. This is a piece of crap and I will never purchase anything from Transcend again.

Works great and the price was right. Although it appeared to back up all my folders on my "work" computer, all the files were encrypted so nothing was really saved. Let that be a lesson to all to check your folders and files. I lost 15 years of pictures!

I have always liked Transcend flash memory products and the comfort of physical durability made for high expectations of this external USB 2.0 drive.The style and external build quality impressed. However, the write times for this drive are woefully slow. I have several portable drives from LaCie (Samsung HD), Iomega and Seagate and they are all at least x4 faster. I formatted on a 10.6 Apple laptop (HFS journaled and FAT32) and a Win7 Compaq desktop (FAT32 and NTFS) with similar results. Read times are acceptable.I use the drive to transfer bunches of small files (JPEGs, MP3, documents); my plan of using it for a backup drive had to be scrapped. On the plus side, the drive works fine with just one USB port on my MacBook Pro (2007) and Asus netbook.*UPDATE 2/23/11*Remembering that the drive has a two-year warranty I sent the drive to Transcend USA (Orange, CA) and about one week later received a brand-new drive in the mail. No explanation was given for the swap but the replacement drive seems to work fine and am pleased with Transcend's quick service. It's nice to be able to power this drive from one USB port from my silver-keyed MacBook Pro.

So I'm pretty pleased with this but realized after getting it that the USB cord that comes with it requires it to be plugged into two ports for power. On the MacBook air the two USB are on opposite sides therefore the splitter is actually not long enough... I'm looking for a remedy to my situation. Maybe someone mentioned this in a review but I'm not tech savvy, and I could have been careless Thus... Beware. If I find a good solution I'll post back. Product worked great with my old MacBook.

These are ROCK SOLID. I traveled with these drives to SE Asia doing photography and they never failed me. For the price I don;t think you can find a better rugged drive. Awesome product.

If you can't find the software cd it's because there is none, it's already loaded on the hard drive. I don't recommend using the software because it will only cause confusion. All you really need to do is copy and paste what you want(and if you like everything to be clean and tidy create some new folders in the hard drive to keep your info organized), but if you want(or like) to use back-up software then look around for the software that suits you (or your budget)and buy it. Over all it's a great hard drive thats sterdy; it gets a little warm, but only at the end that the USB cable connects to. The Transcend storejet is a GREAT HARD DRIVE!!! I recommend that you buy it!(DON'T USE THE SOFTWARE! You have been warned)

This external drive does appear to be as solid and sturdy as advertised. I cannot, however, figure out how to actually do the one button backup that they advertise so heavily. But I haven't made much of an effort either. The automatic backup in general works well, but anytime you create a new folder within a folder which you are already backing up, you must explicitly select that folder for backup in the menu as well. Think music downloading folders... This could be standard practice but I wasn't familiar with it at first and luckily I recognized it prior to reformatting my computer.What is not explicitly mentioned is that this drive actually requires two USB outlets to function, one for power and one for power and data transmission. This is preferable to having to supply external power but could be an issue with certain laptop USB outlet configurations.

I purchased this drive for my teenage son who carries such things around in a backpack. It has stood up well to the banging and bumping around. It was simple to use on his Mac laptop and the speed was better than I expected. Next time I buy an external drive I'll buy another of these.

This product is all that I expected. I particularly like the fact that it has a power saving feature, this is important when you are using a laptop. I also like the design and cushioning of the case.Cost wise it is a better deal compared to flash drives and it is fast.

I have this external for about 6 months. Works perfect so far. No complaints at all. Would probably buy another one, this one is already full, perhaps will get another of this rugged type with more storage.

I purchased this about 4 months ago for an overseas trip, specifically for the anti-shock feature. No way of knowing if that was needed, but the drive handled the trip without problems, was small and sturdy enough that I didn't worry about it too much.

I got exactly what I expected from reading the previous reviews. Everything is great: portable, rugged, and good capacity. I just wished there was not the requirement for two cables. Since I have a Mac without USB 3.0, I do not always need both cables, but still...I really like everything else. Unfortunately, I dropped it the second day, but fortunately, it was built for that and there have been know problems.

Honestly, I was terrified when I was two separate USB cables coming out of the box. I prefer minimalism, and I was okay with one USB cable with two heads (in earlier versions), rather than two separate ones. What if I loose one of them?Also, I work in an environment where I have to constantly plug and unplug the drive, and I am a bit confused which of the cable I have to unplug first, so that the drive would spin down correctly. I'm hearing "power failure" sounds. The documentation was no help here.Another thing, USB 3.0 plug into the drive has a very thin wired stick inside. I am afraid I'm gonna break it one day. It's a shock-proof hard drive, which is extremely fragile at the same time.
