I have had as much experience with routers to know generally what to expect but this one surprised me many times. I have come to the conclusion that this is a cross-over product the first of a new generation of routers. When you get this product be sure to follow the software upgrade instruction or you will have trouble on networks with multiple wireless devices. They did 8 different "models" of this and this is number 8. You will need to remember that when you upgrade, model # plus 8. Another quirk this has is using a cable modem with it. In the box is a small insignificant looking piece of paper with instructions on setting up with cable modems. Always reboot the modem when you have finished setting up. User manual lists two urls to the device one is tplinklogin.net and the other is 192.168.1.1, neither one works. The extended user manual has the right one which is 192.168.0.1. These steps can be confusing because the router works regardless but it does not keep working reliably. Twice I almost returned this product before figuring stuff out. Since doing this the router has been really good. Speed is awesome. This is a professional product in low price clothing.

I've got the revision 8 model and so far (a week) I am very pleased. Stable and working great. Just after I took it I realized that, indeed, my Internet provider is really serving me 80 Mbps connection. With the previous Cisco/Linksys WRT160N (again N-standard) I could only get ~30 Mbps with constant restarts. Now it is 75 MBps. Range is roughly the same.And a note - the router is advertised as 300 Mbps. While true, it is acheieved with a channel width of 40 MHz. Meanwhile the router is 2.4 GHz only. And by the WiFi Alliance standards at that range 40 MHz channels are not allowed. So, most clients are configured to not allow 40 MHz channel width. So, if your client connects at 150 MBps to the router, you'll need to set it to allow 40 MHz at 2.4 GHz range.However, I'll give it 4 starts, just because the not so true ad about the 300 MBps, which are reached trough some tweaks and are not tolerated by the standards.

The other reviewers' comments were really helpful when I was looking for a new router, and the TP-Link products were also extremely affordable. My household needed a new router when our seven year old Linksys router gave out one day. With three computers, two televisions and two smartphones in the house, it was like the end of the world when the Linksys died. I went out right away and bought a different, more expensive router at a local electronics store. It just couldn't handle our home network needs and had to be reset several times a day. Totally annoyed, I went on-line, did some research and ordered the TP-Link. Two days later it arrived and we have had absolutely no problems since. The more expensive router was returned to the store and I saved $12 on the deal!Thanks Amazon :)

I bought this router after buying an expensive, name brand, "whole house" router that got returned after a weeks worth of problems. I had shyed away from ordering one of these mid range priced routers in the beginning for whatever reason. I should have known better seeing as though my $39.99 Dilink that died and put me in this predicament was well worth double it's money in age at 6+ years. So I ordered this TP-Link TL-WR941ND and received it in two-day shipping through Amazon Prime. Set-up was fast and easy for me and should be for anyone who may or may not have any experience with a similar product and can read instructions. A install CD is provided and is very straight forward. This was an upgrade to wireless N for me and it is backwards compatible to B/G wireless which is nice for people who may have older hardware. I also bought and am using a TP-Link 150Mbps Wireless-N USB adapter on my old desktop that does not have a wireless card installed and it works and installs as easy as it's big brother.These two peripherals have worked flawlessly for months in our house transmitting wi-fi to a number of wireless units including an Xbox, WII, google TV, droid & I phones not too mention numerous computers. Once in a great while the router itself needs to be reset via unplugging the power and replugging but this is very minimal. The signal is strong and remarkable considering I have this unit installed in the enclosed stairway leading to the basement in our house.I would recommend a TP-Link product to anyone looking for an inexpensive, working alternative for any hardware situation they may have. A+

I'll admit it- I got this because it was the cheapest wireless-N router I could find with good reviews. I was replacing an ancient Netgear router which was terribad- couldn't hold a signal more than twenty feet away. Got this one and it has good range, and the speed is fantastic.Setup for these devices can be a pain. This one was pretty straightforward using the included utility (does require a DVD drive). The router supports WPA2 and security was easily configurable.The router itself is low profile and quite compact, and actually looks pretty cool. I'd never heard of the brand before, but would definitely get another one if I needed it.A note on the range- while it's good for a router of any sort (let alone one in this price range) I did get a pretty weak signal from the extreme opposite corner of the house. Thus I'd estimate its range at about 70 feet, taking into account several walls, windows, and other obstructions that probably impede it pretty severely. To address that issue, I stuck a Diamond WR300N into the wall in the dining room, and that solved the problem nicely.Pro:CheapSecureSetup was easyGood range and great speedCon:Doesn't have insane range, merely good

My main router is a wired Netgear in our basement and I had another Linksys wireless router hooked up to my Netgear as a wireless access point. The wireless Linksys worked well for a while then the wireless speed dropped to 4 to 6 mbps from 12mbps so I decided to try this router. I changed the IP address to be within the Netgear router addresses and disabled the DHCP but OMG, this little router shows 130m connection which is better than a ethernet connection and my internet wireless speedtest is 22mbps and it shows full signal sitting in my basement more than 40 feet away from the router, which my old Linksys didn't! All this from a twenty-five dollar router. I purchased mine from B&H NYC didn't know that Amazon had it also. Anyway, I am a happy camper! Hope this lasts!

The router and additional components are packaged well. The instructions are a fold-out piece of paper that does a pretty good job of diagraming how to hook up the modem to router and router to computer. However, beyond that, good luck.I inserted the supplied CD-ROM and attempted to install the router, drivers, etc and I was unable to do so. I then called their 24/7 technical support line:1st call: Someone answered, gave their greeting sand hung up before I could speak.2nd call: A lady answered who spoke so softly and in an accent that I was unable to understand so I ended that call due to the language barrier.3rd call: I spoke with another lady (same issues as above) but we were able to comminucate better. At this point I was desperate for help so I advised of my problem and she was able to help me manually connect after a lengthy call.So far, the router is performing well with great coverage in my home. I can view videos, etc without any lag time.

At first this router was great. Setting up I wouldn't exactly call it a breeze but it was simple. It worked great and had great signal and range. I use a laptop which was connected to this router and I got normal speeds and no connection problems. The only problem I had was with the wired connections. I had ethernet connections from this router to both my Xbox 360 and my desktop. While playing Halo Reach I would lag badly and I thought it was my internet, or someone in the house was slowing me down. The same happened when I played games or even used my desktop, the internet was unbelievably slow. I checked the connection speed on my desktop and my laptop at the same time. Laptop speed was normal, but the desktop speed was 10 times slower. I don't believe this applies to all the routers and perhaps I just got a lemon, but I returned it and purchased a Netgear WNDR3700 N600 Manufacturer Refurbished and was quite happy with that purchase. I purchased this through MYeHUT Inc.

I purchased this based on the great reviews and the price was right.the problem that i have is that every 2 days the router just drops the connection with the modem.there is a big when there is a note saying that TIME WARNER customer may need to go thru extra sets to set up.I should have just returned it then, but my POS BELKIN 600DB was dead and i needed a router.i tried on several occasion trying to get a hold of their non existent customer/tech serviceafter 40 mins i just have to hang upi had time warner make sure i had a clean line and that the modem wasn't dying.It was the router,,, as i have replaced it with a linksys and there has been no problems since (knock on wood)

own this one for two month, working bad: bad connection, keep drop connection. I dont recommend this to you who look for cheap and good one. buy another one.I am so regretting. If I were you, spend more dollars and buy other one please.Today, i went to bestbuy and bought linksys 300 which is $45. it works much better than this bad product!!!also, the one thing i like bestbuy is that they have two years additional full coverage warranty just for 9.99!!so i bought warranty too, i think total was $54 something.My home is small and have three computer, so it was good enough to buy ^^ and i am happy.

My question is not about the product, but about the way it was sent out. I was informed it had been shipped via Fed-X, however I received it via USPS. This item had a Fed-X tracking #, and info telling where it was located on different days of its journey. Now explain to me how you can track this item on Fed-X when it's actually being sent thru USPS. This has happened on my two latest orders. As far as the products I have ordered from Amazon, I am very pleased with them and will continue to use your service when at all possible.Thank you,Jim Bassett

First thing I did was open this up and get DD-WRT on it. The process was pretty straight forward, just get the newest version with the build for this model and flash it through the web UI. One drawback with DD-WRT is the LEDs on the top no longer flash with activity, but this is a minor drawback.I set this up first as a wireless bridge to provide ethernet port access to local devices over wifi adding the WAN port to the switch. This worked fine, but even with wireless N to my router the performance wasn't quite up to par; it was slow. I believe this is mainly due to the weak fios router antenna and weak wireless signal downstairs. So I ended up running cat6 anyway and just doing it right, nothing against the device.Since wireless signal downstairs wasn't the best, I figured why not set up two APs then? Leave this in one area of the house with weak signal and have the main fios router to cover the upstairs? Works great for that, now I have two APs set up with the same SSID and WPA2 settings, one on channel 11 and one and channel 1 for full house coverage. My laptop and phone both seamlessly choose the strongest AP and I have no complaints. DD-WRT is great software and it truly makes this router perform wonderfully. Zero issues with wireless stability and no real complaints with the coverage from the built in antennas.I didn't try tomato or any other distribution with this router, I've used tomato in the past and it was wonderful, but I'm not aware of a build for this particular model, but no complaints with DD-WRT for what I'm using it for.

Bought this router a few weeks ago, easy to set up and excellent coverage throughout the whole house. It's been running straight with no reboots thus far, great buy, give it a try, I was a little skeptical because of brand but so far this is an excellent product.The only odd thing I found so far was in the directions the server IP address is 192.168.1.1; however that didn’t work for me but rather 192.168.0.1 no biggie though easy to change devices to 0.1 if needed manually.

I work for an auto dealership as an IT guy and the techs where having problems with the wifi we had when they serviced vehicles. The computers and or modules in the vehicles have to be updated through wireless laptops and the worst thing that can happen is to lose a connection during an update. Anyway ever since I installed the TP-Link (TL-WR941ND) Router the problems with the connections have stopped. I will say that I have installed a lot of routers and I did this one manually. So I don't know how well the setup disk works.This is a great router and I would recomend it to all my friends and family.great Router for a Great Price Well Worth it!

5 months after I ordered this router it started giving me problems, cutting in and out, and ultimately not connecting to the internet at all. I called TP-Link for customer support and they were very helpful. I was on the phone with them for 35 minutes one day and we thought we resolved the problem by resetting the router. The very next day the network wasn't showing up again, so I called again. After another 20 minute phone call we determined that the router wasn't working properly and needed to be returned to the supplier. Unfortunately, Amazon is only able to give me a partial refund since I only had 30 days after purchase to return the item. I will not be buying a TP-Link router again. Super frustrated.

I didn't need to set it up with either a disk or online. Just connecting it was all that was needed. My old slow desktop computer is hard wired to it, but I mainly now use a much faster laptop and an Android tablet both at my desk and elsewhere in the house. The 7" tablet which I imported from China runs at 150 Mbps. Wish the laptop did. Need to see about upgrading wireless chip inside the computer to take full advantage the speed of wireless router..

The big issue I have with this router is it's 802.11n signal. At 10 feet from router my signal degraded to the point that I was getting 9 Mbps wireless compared to a little over 30 Mbps wired. There were no obstructions during this experiment. For the price ($20), I would give it 2 stars as a wireless router without a good wireless signal is kind of worthless.I was hoping this might be fixed by DD-WRT, but a quick look at their page for this router shows that it probably would not.I have had this device a week, and so far haven't had any issues with the device other than the wireless signal.It's a great BACKUP device, but that's about it.

I upgraded my home Internet connection from basic DSL (1.5 Mb) to ADSL2+ (6-18 MB) and of course then the limitations of my old wireless routers (Netgear and then Fon) became apparent, so I upgraded to this TP-LINK WR841N. The speed and stability difference is noticeable. The one problem was streaming music from my laptop running iTunes to the Roku Soundbridge M1001 connected to my stereo. It used to work fine with the old setup, but not with the new router. After searching the web for an hour or two I emailed TP-LINK and within hours got a reply that suggested changing a single setting (disable WMM in Wireless Advanced settings) and streaming once again works fine. For anyone in a situation similar to mine, I recommend upgrading to ADSL2+ (Sonic.net's Fusion service over basic home copper phone wiring is fantastic, FWIW), and upgrading an old wireless router to this inexpensive basic new one.

Got this for my parents for xmas. The wireless router they have wasn't powerful enough going through a big house. This took me 5-10 mins to setup. Piece of cake. Tested out on laptop and he noticed a huge increase in speed while uploading a video on youtube. Signal was strong upstairs as well.Update: After installing this router at my parents house and they noticed big improvements, I went ahead and purchased one to replace my belkin router. I noticed the Belkin was dropping the connection to my phone and was slow so I purchased this at the Amazon Warehouse as "Very Good" to save $6. Didn't even seem like it was used. Very happy!Update 1/6/12: No drop connections. I get my emails instantly via Yahoo app on galaxy 3. Very fast & no complaints

The TP-Link TL-WR841N is a good wireless router for a good price. Key benefits:* Thanks to its large antennas and configurable power level, it offers much better coverage than the more expensive Medialink 802.11n router (Medialink - Wireless N Router - 802.11n - 150 Mbps - 2.4 Ghz - NEW Design w/ Internal Antenna) that we were previously using. We now get full-house network coverage, whereas half the house had very poor connectivity with the Medialink unit.(!) One thing to look out for is a powerful wifi router can interfere with a weak cable internet signal. If you're using high power mode and can't access the internet, try switching to medium or low power, or moving the router further away from your cable modem and cable line. I also found that using a higher wifi channel number (e.g., 11, the highest authorized in the US) causes less interference. In the end, I just moved the cable modem and router to a different cable outlet much closer to the cable connection to the house to get a stronger cable signal.* The web-based configuration menus offer a lot of useful options. Each configuration page includes documentation on the right hand side. This is a lot easier than looking things up in a separate manual or online (especially if your internet connection isn't working!).* Bonus: Includes WDS support, to allow the router to act as a repeater for another wifi router (sometimes called a "signal booster"). However I wasn't able to properly configure WDS, because the only wifi network I could connect to was my neighbor's, and they use the Medialink 802.11n router with WPA2 enabled (WDS isn't standardized, so it generally doesn't work with WPA2 between different brand devices). For what it's worth, I wasn't able to get Netgear or Belkin WDS wifi repeaters to work with my neighbor's WPA2 network, either, so this is another strike against Medialink, not TP-Link.* The physical enclosure has a simple design and feels solid.

The price is right and the range is great. If you're looking for a wireless router then this is a good one to consider. The directions that are included are a bit suspect. Even though my instructions said differently, you will have to run the CD before connecting to outlet or computer for it to work. However, once I figured that part out it worked perfectly. I will recommend this one to everyone.

This was more difficult to set up than I expected, but it never worked correctly. At the beginning I could connect briefly at times, but I never could just turn on my computer and have wireless. By the end of it (several days of trying) I couldn't even get the router settings page to come up when I was sitting right next to it and even when I had the cables hooked up between the modem to the router and from the router to my computer. Worse, it screwed up something else, and I couldn't even get my hardline internet to work. I ended up doing a system restore. I tried multiple times to contact customer service on different days and times, and it never even rang most of those times, just a message that said all lines were busy. One time it rang and said please wait, and then told me they were all busy and hung up on me. I did get a reply to my email 2 days after I sent it, but by that time I had given up and wasn't willing to try again since it messed things up so bad. I returned it to Amazon, which was super easy, no problem.I ordered a different router that appears to be super popular and better. It is double the price, but I guess you get what you pay for. Their customer service is very active even on Amazon, so I am thinking my chances may be better with it.

I was looking for an affordable, easy to set up router to set up a wireless network for my Android tablet while using cable internet for my PC at home. I didn't want to pay a fortune for one but, of course I wanted one, which would work. I read many reviews and looked in many places. I settled on this router because of the price and it looked as if fit my needs. It took me (15) mins to set up. I get a wireless signal the length of my trailer in every room and around my property. It hasn't dropped a signal once so far. Can't ask for more.

After not receiving great transmission to a TV in my living room (router is an office 70 feet away) I contacted customer service and after working my way through interpreting very broken English the problem was fixed. The Routers automatic Channel selector apparently was getting hung up on bad channels. I set the router on one channel and it has been working fine. I was about to return this router but now I am happy that I didn't.
