I am using this for my home theater setup and it has the power and sound I need. I have the display in black out mode and it looks great. It also plays the ipod as a bonus. The only negative is that when I adjusted the volume level it shows up on the screen. I ran the hdmi cable directly to the projector to solve that problem, but if I add a 2nd source I will lose that option.

if your a fan of the cinema this is the right amp for you but be aware that you should have someone program it for you and it can be hard to understand if you dont know what your doing but its an awesome amp would recommend it to any one

I was looking for a 7.1 receiver for cheap. This fit those requirements. Its limited functionality was fine since I only needed hdmi inputs with hdmi audio. It was easy to setup, under 5min. Running the auto calibration was needed for serviceable sound quality. Sound quality lacks the clarity that my more expensive receivers have, but still provides good enough for entry level.

There is no video conversion with this unit. This receiver expects 100% digital input. No "up-conversion" at all. Any composite video must be output to the TV as composite. For $250 it sounds good and it was the Amazon price that pulled me in. $50 less than Sony or other sites. No phono preamp. No analog audio outputs.

A review for the non-audiophile: Bought this unit to replace a Yamaha that had no support for a second zone of speakers. Once set up I couldn't believe the difference. This may very well have been due to user error or my inability to correctly configure my last receiver, but the auto setup on this Sony using the included microphone was easy, quick, and sounds AMAZING. When my wife actually notices the difference, I know it's a big change from what we have. Very pleased so far.

While I know that I wasn't getting the best receiver ever, I did expect decent sound from the Sony. It's horrible. It sounds so dead. I've tried all the different manual and automated setup. Nothing fixes the sound.

This receiver replaces a older Sony Home Theater receiver and this one is much better. I really like the auto-calibration
which did a very good job setting up my speakers and melding the Sub-Woofer with the other speakers. The look of the receiver is very attractive and fits well with the other components in my system. I would recommend this receiver if you want a nice
5.1 or 7.2 Home Theater system.

Very pleased with the Receiver. I have all Sony equipment (TV and BlueRay) so everything auto connected without issue. The setup of the receiver with my speakers was very simple. The enclosed mic does an auto setup and when it failed it told me I didn't have front speakers. I checked my plugs and sure enough I had the speakers wired wrong. My old speakers sound much better with the new , higher powered Amp.

I've never owned another receiver before with the exception of sony's "soundbar/receiver" deal. This thing is superb. I was worried about complicated set up or having to play with settings every time I want to use it. Nope, just set it and forget it.

I replaced a Denon that went down in a lightening strike. This Sony gives me nearly the same performance for half the price. Missing a few bells and whistles, but honestly, never really used those functions on the higher end receiver. Great bang for the buck with this one.

got alot for the money with this receiver...input/output options are somewhat limited hence not 5 stars, but can use TV, FM receiver, separate CD and VCR, and ipod with no prob.....in summary, a veryt nice receiver for less than $250

would recommend!! Sounds very good,no problem to hook-up.Shipping was fast and price was good.there was a small dent on to but I have it in a cabinet and it doesn't show.

I have this as my main amp and it is a unreal sound machine. Plenty of hdmi pass thru slots on screen prog 7.1 Dolby and 4k to boot .

The only comment to add to the rest is, why is there a record player shown so prominently in every shot of Sony's promo video, complete with arranged lp covers, but there is no phono input? Yes, I know that there are plenty of preamps for every budget, but still.

Good product, could have had more hdmi plug-ins. For the price and quality, it serves my needs. The setting of speakers is a little on the touchy side, as you have to read manual and use the mic as instructed. Once you get the desired effects you want, the sound and features are good. I recommend getting banana plug ins when using the speaker wires to receiver. I would recommend this unit. It makes my home theater sound better.

Great receiver, great sound. After you get your speakers wired up the rest is gravy. Just follow the directions and use the mic to balance out your surround sound levels. Very good receiver for the price. Like other reviews you do need to tell it the front speakers are "small" if thats what you have but that's in the directions too.

I have only had it a few months but so far I'm very happy. It has a very convenient USB jack for my iPhone in the front. It worked perfect for my system, Apple TV, direct tv, smart tv, blu-ray, iPhone. I think it's a great value for a low budget system. Used with klipsch HDT 600 speakers and it sounds goooood

This is amazing. This replaced my 12 year old sony 5.1 system. Easy to hook up. Great to have HDMI connections finally! No extra wires ran to everything like I had before. Decided to run the 2nd set of front spekers on the Dolby IIz setup due to room restrictions and it sounds great!

This thing is awesome. It goes great with my in ceiling speaker system. I also hooked this up with 2 Sony SA-W3000 subwoofers and it sounds even better.

it is a very powerful amp, but the menu is not the easiest to navigate. it does have a gui that shows up on the TV but it is not easy for anyone that doesn't understand Sony speaker placement to into the amp, unless you look up the seat code chart.

I am upgrading from a Harman Kardon that doesn't have HDM ports. I think this receiver is actually pretty good and the price isn't bad. One thing to keep in mind is that I have a Sony Bravia TV, so my setup may be easier than someone who doesn't have a Sony TV. I have not experienced any issues so far.

This model has alot of power. I have top of the line DCM speakers and my onkyo receiver just wasnt powering them so i went with the sony and i am very pleased. Its also much easier to use and set up. Overall very happy so far

bought this item on Wednesday ,got it Friday ,and it's going back Monday ,subwoofer output wouldn't work ,I tried everything and nothing ,the top end doesn't even sound that good either

Ich brauchte einen neuen Verstärker für meinen Schreibtisch um CD/MP3-Player und den PC für meine Musikbearbeitung anzuschließen. Eine Systemfernbedienung mit den notwendigsten Funktionen wird mitgeliefert. Auffällig war für mich sofort wieder die "andere" Klangabstimmung gegenüber meinem alten Pioneer A-202. Unter zwei hochwertigen Sennheiser-Kopfhörern konnte ich das Gerät gut testen. Ein ganz leises Netzbrummen ist vernehmbar, wenn man laut aufdreht. Die Loudness-Funktion ist etwas schwächer, das Grundrauschen ist etwas höher als beim Pioneer. Der Bass klingt mitunter leicht "verwaschen", vor allem wenn man zu weit aufdreht "wummert" es und die Feinzeichnung fehlt. Beim Pioneer hatte ich immer beide Klangregler etwa in Mittenstellung. Die Bässe beim Pioneer kamen knochentrocken und der Klang war sehr ausgewogen, was dem Sony nicht ganz gelingt. Beim Test über verschiedene Lautsprecherboxen war ebenfalls eine leichte klangliche Unausgewogenheit zu verzeichnen. Ich hatte bereits mehrere Verstärker von Pioneer und Sony. Fazit:
Der Verstärker ist gut verarbeitet und als Zweitgerät klanglich gut. Für die Hifianlage im Wohnzimmer nur bedingt geeignet.
