Had it for 6 months and realized that it does not switch off even though I here switches switching and the On/Off L.E.D.(light) turn a different color. Noticed the unit was very warm while off for hours. I confirmed the unit was drawing 240 Watts in the off position. The specification is 0.3 Watts!!!! Anyone who has purchased a SONY receiver should verify their receiver ASAP as this is wasting a ton of energy!!! Now in the process of dealing with SONY customer service as Amazon will not help you after 30 days. Not advisable to purchase electronic equipment fro Amazon. Now I have to probably pay for shipping to a service center and not have my receiver for a month. Should have purchased at FRY's.

Overall it's a good piece of equipment. Everything works as expected, video throughput and audio system does its job. One star for UI configuration takes a bit to get used to, with no access to handle it via the receiver. Also, my base is on its own for power source and I'm on my own handling the fact that the base ticks off when there is no base being pushed via the receiver at some times during movies/shows. (a power click in the middle of quiet scenes is definitely a nuisance.

Перевал через HDMI и не работает. Что означает, что вы должны иметь усилитель включен во все времена.
также в качестве источника питания в этой модели является слишком чувствительной. Усилитель будет вырезать, когда выключатели находятся в эксплуатации около дома.<БР />после нескольких звонков тоже Сони, они не могли решить проблему, Я заменил его на модель Пионера.

отличные звуки товара супер
Класс АВ ресивер, Я заменил старый Денон звучит так красиво, настройки с все меню на экране каждого параметра объясняет, что изменения настроек, и автоматически калибровать, это тааак приятно и сделал большую работу. Единственное, что немного раздражало меня была нехватка операторов руководство, видимо Сони чувствует меню на экране, на уровне которых он до некоторой степени, но все же хорошо иметь инструкцию на соринку в подробные объяснения. Но если это мое единственное схватывание то незначительные.

This Receiver is AMAZING.
Purchased this earlier this week and finally received it yesterday evening and was able to do basic setup just to get sound out of it and it was alright to say the least as I couldn't go through the proper setup (only had one HDMI from my fire box). I had an older JVC unit (purchased 10yrs ago) that worked just fine except for the sound bugged out occasionally so I dealt with it until I could get another HDMI.
Let me tell you the difference in sound once I was able to get this thing set up properly... holy crap everything is heard from the super rich bass all the way up to super high frequencies. After you do the easy setup I HIGHLY recommend going through the more in depth settings to get it setup exactly the way you prefer things. This receiver opened up my ears and brings entertainment to a whole new level.

5 Star by far. I paired this with 5 Pyle Quintet speakers a 100 watt Sony sub and 2 KLH speaker I had hanging around. Sound is amazing. 1st out of the box hooked up speakers and plugged in all the HDMI inputs. Went to TV mode and didn't see the start-up screen. Hit home on the remote and it brought up options. Phew, thought something was wrong. Then used the Mic that comes with the package and put it on the couch. I did the setup for speakers and it chimes the speakers to see where the Mic is located. I tell you that the mic setup works. After that put in a blue ray movie and wow was I blown away. I could hear rear speakers!!! My old setup was a 5.1 surround back 10 years ago. I never heard the speakers sound like that. Was like I was in a theater. So Next I though well I heard movies in blue ray sounded good lets try the iPhone hookup. I put some jams on the iPhone and played them on iHeart Radio. I was amazed. There is another music input on there that even made that sound better!!! So then just playing around with the remote I hit next. IT CHANGED THE SONG USING THE REMOTE IN iHEART RADIO! Wow I thought this is a nice feature. I didn't do any changes other than just plugging the phone it and it changed the song when i hit next. So I went back to blue ray and put the setting back to what they were with the mic setup. I have a Sony Blue Ray player and thought well if it worked with the iPhone I wonder if the controls worked with the Blue Ray Player. AND IT DID!!! Tried the TV which wasn't a Sony and well.. No biggie that didn't work. Look elsewhere and you wont find a 7.2 with over 1000W receiver for this price. I wasn't worried about not having all the bells and whistles like the Airplay to listen to music. I have a Roku for that. For around $220 with shipping I got this from Amazons Used and saw one that was like new. Pretty much just an open box item. Everything was intact and all cables and everything were in the box. No speaker wire but I already had that setup. * * * * * 5 Star rating for sure.

Bought this to replace a four-year old STR-DH800 7.1. (The old one didn't have 3D pass-through and I had to run a separate HDMI to the projector). The wattage is advertised for 6-ohm speakers and I was worried that it would not sound as well as the older one when running full blast. I usually ran volume of the 800 at 45 or less and I feel as though I need to run the new one a bit higher. However, I don't detect any distortion.
The 3D pass through works as advertised--make sure you have a recent HDMI cable.
The unit, weight-wise, is lighter than the 800 that it replaces. Not sure that's good or bad.
Speaker set up is the same as before, using the tuning microphone. Set it up where your ears would be, press the right button, and it sets up each speaker's volume to ensure proper 7.2 sound.
A new feature, in addition to the 3D pass through, is for front high-low speakers. Instead of having the middle surround sound speakers, you can mount two smaller speakers above the front main speakers (at least 25" or 0.7 m) and experience the sound of, say, a descending helicopter. This is a feature I haven't tried yet because I have to reroute speaker wires through the ceiling. If I try it, I'll update later.
I also ordered banana plugs for connecting speaker wires--my only regret is I didn't do it earlier. Jamming so many pairs of wire into the back by turning the thumb knob tighteners was frustrating. Don't cheap out as I did if you hadn't used banana plugs yet.
Over all, I love it. Good price, good features. Definitely recommend!

Отличный АВ пож - купить!
Я купил этот усилитель, чтобы заменить древний Сони АВ усилителю, которые не имеют возможности подключения по HDMI или True HD звук<.br />этот новый усилитель класса. Он ездит на 5.1 комплект акустики Bose и стоит в разы "страшно". Звук настолько реалистичный.
я бы порекомендовал этот усилитель для тех, кто действительно насладиться высококачественным звуком для кино и музыкальных приложений. Небо ТВ звука тоже отличное качество с колотилось, но четкие основания и подробная середина и trable диапазонов.
я снял одну звезду, потому что это заняло довольно некоторое время возиться с настройками, чтобы получить звук на оптимальные настройки. Микрофон нормальный, но не идеальный.

So far this receiver (the STR-DH740 7.2) has been excellent minus its auto shutoff. (Need to figure out how to disable that at some point).
The last two receivers I purchased were Onkyo, both died just out of warranty and Onkyo treated me like I should be worshiping their feet to get any kind of service at all. Needless to say, I moved on to something different and honestly wish I made the move earlier. This receiver is head and shoulders above either of the previous two (that were "supposed to be equivalent" but were definitely not). I guess now will see if this unit stands the test of time!
As noted above, my only complaint so far is that the unit has a built in timer that if it doesn't have any audio pass through it for around 10 minutes it automatically turns off (or goes into "sleep" mode) but does not wake back up when it receives audio again, and since its in an out of the way location, its kind of a pain to get to when it does go to sleep.

Excellent portable!
Я только что получил Пха-3 и по сравнению с моим предыдущим Пха-2 разница будет как день и ночь. С помощью компании Shure SE846 в сбалансированном режиме. Инструменты лучше расположенные, более определенными,. Туже базу, более широкую звуковую сцену. Я не уверен, что разницу можно отнести к сбалансированной и несимметричных или просто разные микросхемы ЦАП, но я впечатлена<.БР />
это от моего MacBook Pro и USB и Audirvana+ с FLAC и DSD файлы.<бр /><бр />РНА-2 был хорош, но даже по двойной цене, я считаю, Пха-3 стоит обновить.<бр /><бр />обновление 1/8/15:
я могу подтвердить, аппарат отлично работает с моим Samsung примечание 4, используя любой стандартный аудио плеер (например, усилитель).

My older Sony receiver started to loose the center channel, a problem all to common with earlier Sony products due to bad soldering on the boards in years past. I though I made it with the older one but it too started to cut in and out so I was forced to upgrade.
PROS:
- Uses the newer technology to auto set-up your speaker configuration by using the plug-in mic and placing it where you'll be sitting in the room.
- Works
- Is able to do 7.1 OR 5.1 I bought it to use with my 5.1 set-up and configured it to work as 5.1 instead of 7.1
- Most of the settings are configured by using the on screen (TV screen) configurations through the HDMI connection fed from the receiver. You can't really do the setup using the front display of the receiver as it won't show you all of the options and fields.
- Sound is crisp and clear
- Price was not a killer
CONS:
- Not as many optical inputs as my previous unit
- Not as customizable for the display to read what you want it too. They have key words and you are basically tied down to their choices.
- Auto shuts down when it does not receive an audio signal for about 5 minutes. You'll need to turn it back on or go into the programming and disable the feature. I chose to leave it on in the event that my wife leaves it on by accident as she moves the harmony remote due to impatience thus not allowing the macro to finish.
- I wasn't too pleased with the auto programming of the speakers. The volume on the center channel was too low when it was finished setting up. I didn't care for background noises being about as loud as the vocal track on the center channel. Luckily it allowed me to go back in and adjust the center channel while preserving the rest of the settings.
While I do like this unit it just isn't as friendly as my previous unit. Hopefully by now though Sony has learned about cheap solder connections and this one will last a long long time.

I bought this receiver and returned it within a week. When it was working the sound was good about this product and having an "all Sony" environment meant the remote worked across devices. That's all that I can good about this product.
The "Bravia Sync" feature with my Sony TV worked on intermittently. On more than one occasion the receiver simply stopped passing video through from the set top box to the TV. Any use of my Sony Blu Ray player (whether Bravia sync was active or not) would disrupt the Bravia sync with the TV to the point that every Bravia-sync setting had to be reconfigured manually.
The on-screen menu created by the receiver is horrid -- looks like it was designed in the mid-1990s. When the TV/Receiver powered up in Bravia sync mode, about 1/3 of the time the on-screen menu capability would activate and create 20+ rows of gibberish letters across the screen requiring the use of the remote to clear.
Manual is cryptic and written with very rough english.
Completely disappointed in Sony.

So far so good after a couple months. It "sort of" works as a 2-zone receiver but man was that hard to figure out how to make the zone 2 (B) speakers (patio) function as the middle surround. I wish you could still watch tv while listening to the radio or CD source on audio like other receivers. But for 99% of use (home theater TV and movies) this thing sounds brilliant right out of the box after calibration. Just can't beat this price for quality

не стоит бесплатная доставка......
Продукт я получил, был неисправен. Я проверил всю проводку и даже использовал свой старый приемник и единственное, что не корректно работает этот кусок. Только звук будет работать, а не видео. Я пробовал в нескольких конфигурациях, и кажется, если HDMI выходы.....все они жареные. Раньше как Sony, теперь я хочу свои деньги обратно!

Many excellent reviews have been written about the good and the bad of this receiver so I will simply say my experience mostly mirrors the good reviews. What I want to cover is the complaint one reviewer had concerning the "dishonest power ratings " Sony uses to rate the output of this receiver and what if any effect it has on performance and sound quality. For the record, virtually all their direct competion rates their receivers in much the same way. Years ago I used to build and sell speaker systems. I also assembled from kits my own amplifiers. Early on I realized the weak link in the sound system was the speakers. I also learned that most people knew what they liked their speakers to sound like but had no idea what high quality sound reproduction was. Yep,I learned to give folks the sound they liked,flat accurate frequency response be dammed. Could not build my custom made speaker systems fast enough! Now with that said here is the point of my review. My son in law bought a big beautiful home with a built in theater. 100" big screen,big powerful Harman Kardon AV receiver 7.1 rated @ 100 watts per channel all channels driven into 8 ohms. Speaker compliments are as follows. JBL studio L880 left and right front speakers, JBL LC2 center speakers,JBL L810's for all the rear surrounds. Subs a JBL L8400P puting out 600 watts. When the receiver started to fail his challenge to me was find a 7.1 replacement for $300.00 or less. He is not into high performance audio and considers what he has now over kill. Here is the bottom line folks I selected the Sony 740 and it has filled the gap more than adequately. Sure it has a few functions I would do differently if It was my call but the fact is it is doing a fine job in this application. Am I surprised? Nope, the speakers are the heart of this system and great speakers make any amplifier be all that it can be and average speakers make great amplifiers sound average. By the way Sound and Vision tested a slightly more powerful version of this reciever (5 watts a channel more rated power) and it put out 82.9 watts to all seven channels 20-20 cps in to 8 ohms @ 0.1 THD. more then enough clean power to get the job done. Bottom line, spend you big bucks on your speakers if you want the best bang for your money unless money's no object then sure buy the best of everything. I bought this receiver for $252 and my son in law thinks I am a genius. If you buy it I feel confident if your speakers are up to it this amplifier will "get the job done".

Forced to purchase a new receiver since my new tv required hdmi ports.
At this price, there may not be another receiver that is 7.2 with so many listening options. More than enough power for a
home theater set up. The calibration setup works nicely -- trust the measurements. The D.C.A.C is very accurate.
My suggestion is to set the speaker settings to small, the front speakers to 80hz and surrounds to 100hz. The speakers are
balanced crisp and clear.
Forced to purchase a new receiver since my new tv required hdmi ports.

I just returned the STR DH740 model. This unit works fine with Sony BDP S6200 3D 4K Blu-ray player in 3D Blu-ray, and DVD but not normal Ble-ray disk. When using Blu-ray disk, the sound disappeared during the middle of the sentenses or music/sound effect. It woks fine if I turn off the receiver and let the movie sound pass through direct to TV. I called Sony and they asked me to return it because thet believe there is sofrware/firmeare problesms and there is no update to fix it currently. I just get the new model STR DH750 model, and they both work fine together without the same problem. Ohter then this, the unit has good sound and I like the easy config mode for speakers.It may or may not work fine with other Sony or other non-Sony DVD players.

Использовать для питания домашнего кинотеатра. Подключили проектор Сони VPL hw40es, уставом связи высокой четкости и кабельными каналами, Сони 3D и Blu ray плеер, PS3, и pl89 Бик Хо.звуковой пакет электронной театра. Это доставляет!!! Шесть входов HDMI, два выхода HDMI, двумя оптическими входами. Очень доволен, звук потрясающий. Легко подключить. Просмотр 3D-фильмов является удивительным. Никаких проблем, расталкивая всех динамиков в системе 7.1. Лучший приемник для цене. Спасибо Amazon и Sony за отличный сервис и отличный продукт.

This item is in Ecuador and works great. This review originally included lines (now deleted) about the good buying experience, tips for choosing this A/V receiver vs. other SONY choices, advice for speakers configuration considering the high prices in Latin America, deploying of legacy configurations with DVD/component/optic connections, tips for setting the main audio parameters, and so.
Once you get an acceptable configuration of 5.1 speakers, your STRDH740 (or STRDH740,STRDH840) will deliver unbeatable performance in small and medium size living rooms. And you will also find advanced (and futuristic) features in the three models:
a) Most of the advanced (and legacy) decoders of audio
b) 3D pass through. If you have a 3D capable Blu-ray & TV, you only need to buy your 3D glasses. Your 3D media is available in your movie shop and from several streaming services.
c) 4K pass through. When 4K-Tvs and 4K-media (recorded or streamed) be available in Latinamerica, your STRDH740 will be ready for the UHD (Ultra High Definition) experience.
I have enjoyed my STRDH740 14 months now (March/2015), using a front pair of legacy panasonic speakers (250w, 3 ways: 2" tweet, 3" medium, 6" woofer), a surround couple of shorter 3-ways speakers rated up to 150w, a small central speaker, and a Boston Acoustics ASW250 subwoofer, filling my house with powerfull and well decoded surround sound. I have also got a BluRay Sony BDPS6200 ready for 3D & 4K which gives me the WiFi connection the STRDH740 doesn't offer. I was lucky finding here in Ecuador that good Subwoofer and BluRay although this is not a review for the Subwwofer/BluRay. It is just to remark that my configuration, STRDH740 serving as a hub makes me extremely happy even with a basic HD TV set.
I'm a happy customer and user.
Once you get an acceptable configuration of 5.1 speakers, your STRDH740 (or STRDH740,STRDH840) will deliver unbeatable performance in small and medium size living rooms. And you will also find advanced (and futuristic) features in the three models:
a) Most of the advanced (and legacy) decoders of audio
b) 3D pass through. If you have a 3D capable Blu-ray & TV, you only need to buy your 3D glasses. Your 3D media is available in your movie shop and from several streaming services.
c) 4K pass through. When 4K-Tvs and 4K-media (recorded or streamed) be available in Latinamerica, your STRDH740 will be ready for the UHD (Ultra High Definition) experience.
I have enjoyed my STRDH740 14 months now (March/2015), using a front pair of legacy panasonic speakers (250w, 3 ways: 2" tweet, 3" medium, 6" woofer), a surround couple of shorter 3-ways speakers rated up to 150w, a small central speaker, and a Boston Acoustics ASW250 subwoofer, filling my house with powerfull and well decoded surround sound. I have also got a BluRay Sony BDPS6200 ready for 3D & 4K which gives me the WiFi connection the STRDH740 doesn't offer. Я видел некоторые комментарии для 1050 и 1040, что там громко слышно гул от приемника, когда он находится в режиме ожидания и при включении и на малой громкости. Я рискнул на это, но как оказалось у меня тот же вопрос. Гул где-то от 40 до 60 дБ, и это ужасно раздражает при прослушивании на низкой громкости. Гул переполняет аудио. Это очень неприятно и может потребовать возврата. Я был в состоянии сделать шум, чтобы уйти, иногда, поставив передачу HDMI ПО на авто и на. Я предполагаю, что гул идет от перевала через порты HDMI и как-то связано с включением портов HDMI.

Great unit for the price, however, one of the HDMI ports has already went out. I don't have a ton of pieces to hook in, but it is a bother.

Пользовательский интерфейс достаточно прост в навигации, но не включающий интерфейс в xross, который теперь включен в более поздних моделях. Дополнительные входы HDMI могут быть необходимы в зависимости от количества компонентов HDMI вы намерены провести в домашнем кинотеатре. У меня Сони Блю-Рэй, игровая приставка Xbox 360, а Тиво...так, я все установил для входа HDMI. Честно говоря, я думаю, что есть смешное количество подключений на задней панели устройства: три компонентных входа и один выход, четыре входа HDMI входы и выход, пять композитные входы и выход, невероятное 11 аналоговый стерео аудио входов и пять выходов, пять цифровых аудиовходов. Список действительно можно продолжать и продолжать. Проще говоря, если у вас есть любое устройство/V сделал в последние несколько десятилетий ее найдете на задней части STRDA2400ES. Устройство также поддерживает Dolby цифровой плюс, технологии Dolby TrueHD и DTS-HD качестве.<БР />
это, конечно, внушительное устройство. На передней панели находятся большое количество циферблатов, переключателей и кнопок, а также съемную панель для подключения портативная a/V устройств. Для собственно переключения и вывода всех портов и соединений, там выбора композитный, компонентный или HDMI выход; HDMI-порт способен до масштабов всех видео источников до 1080p.<БР />
при этом масштабирование отличного качества, с DVD-качеством источников удивительно ярко и плавно повышается. Конечно, масштабирование никогда не будет так идеально, как оригинальный контент HD, но STRDA2400ES позволяет наилучшим образом использовать любые материалы, так что вам не придется полагаться на свой телевизор встроенный скалеров.<бр /><бр />усилитель способен более чем адекватной 100 Вт RMS на семь каналов одновременно, а также предлагает выход для подключения сабвуфера выход. Этого более чем достаточно для питания полноценной объемного звука домашнего кинотеатра к болезненным уровням и я не мог обнаружить каких-либо заметных искажений при движении колонки от AAD.<бр /><бр />переключение между входами и режимами был прост; с небольшой практикой, контролирует блок станет второй натурой. It's just OK for my set up. I lose on this purchase. I thought that I could finally switch HDMI video from my sources to our 2004 (ancient) Sony 57" projection TV. We do not use it much and the video is really outstanding. Not worth throwing away just because it is old. The color and sharpness is equal to our LG 47" LCD/LED TV. Unfortunately the Sony's age shows itself with having the dreaded DVI-HDTV plug, which will display HDMI video from a Sony Blu-Ray player and a Western Digital TV Live Player. I'm giving a long intro to the disappointment with this Sony STR-DH740 7.2 receiver. The OSD and the ability to switch HDMI video will not interface to the DVI-HDTV technology. So, the clumsy way of setting or changing anything is done through the gross front panel display on the receiver. Quite a set back, for me. Basically the receiver decodes (most) DTS and (most) Dolby Pro sound tracks very nicely. Better than my ancient JVC surround system. Much much better!!! A lot of powerful audio. But my dream of switching HDMI sources is just a pipe dream. Now using some kluge arrangement that will switch HDMI to the old faithful Sony 57" TV.
