This drive is advertised as NEW. It obviously came out of an Apple computer which makes it USED. It suffered catastrophic failure and is NOT supported by Seagate because it is OEM, and only the OEM buyer can deal with Seagate. I have attempted to contact the seller twice now without receiving a reply. This seller should be banned fromAmazon because of Fraud and Deception.

There is much discuasion of the performance of this drive when used in RAID arrays. [...] The drive that notably beat the Seagate was the WD RE3. The real competition for the Seagate is the WD Caviar Black which the drive met or beat on virtually every test.Some background info:Both the 1Tb WD Black and the Seagate 1.5Tb had an issue with long "timeouts" caused by the drives "self-standardization" or "cache-flushing" (I'm not SURE of the technical details) at intervals. This "off-line" appearance of the drives caused the drive to a) drop out of the RAID configuration b) be "ejected" from the array due to "read/write errors" c) "hang" for up to 30 seconds or so. Needless to say, these cause major problems in the speed and efficiency of the RAID arrays.The most important thing to note is the major difference in corporate response to the using the drives in RAID arrays. I don't have the exact quote, but WD pretty much said "the Black is not approved for RAID use and will not be supported in this application. Use the RE3 drives". This varies MARKEDLY in the response of SEAGATE which was to work with users and issue firmware patches to meet customer expectatioins. The response of WD on this issue was, imho, unforgivable.. I mean its true that the drives, if applied to a true corporate environment RAID array which has very severe throughput and percent utilization challenges, is a special case. However, for home users, probably 90% of new motherboards contain SATA RAID options built in. For this reason combined with the great prices on HD's now encourage MANY MANY home users to begin using RAID configurations on their home setups. By any stretch of the imagination drives used this way get no more severe utilization than the same drives used in a single drive configuration.[b]Huge KUDO's go to SEAGATE[/b] for the way in which they have tried to support this 1.5 Tb drive while WD needs to have their ears pinned back for their "corporate speak" response to this issue. The RE3 is, on a cost per Gb basis, about 2.25 times the cost of the Seagate 1.5Tb. The 1Tb Caviar Black is the "comparable" drive (still somewhat more expensive $/Gb than this Seagate) and it isn't supported by WD in a RAID array!!! Pffft on WD!PS: I am a long time user of both brands of drives and previously was slightly biased toward WD.. but this incident weighs on my mind considerably(edit added) To summarize:Seagate 1.5Tb approx cost /Gb 0.085 .. RAID supported (need updates)WD Black 1.0Tb approx cost /Gb 0.120 .. Not supported in RAIDWD RE3 1.0Tb approx cost /Gb 0.180 .. Certified for RAIDAll have 5yr warranties, and based on my past experience (I've not had a failure with any of these drives) their warranty services are very good. But if you're having RAID application issues with the WD Black, you won't get support.

Installed this drive when my OEM disk kicked the bucket. The SATA connection made it easy to install and it has been a reliable drive for me. I've never had 1 TB of storage space before so it is needless to say that I am thouroughly enjoying it.

love it. had to buy sata cable separate but thats to be expected. a little slower than my main hard drive so this would make a good back up. its almost full though :X

Been in my PC as of Tuesday (4 days) and I have used it heavily.So far has been flawless if occasionally a bit noisy. This being a relative term and subject to personal opinion. However, much quieter than my old 80 gig EIDE that sounded like it had stark raving mad gnomes with pick-axes.So far, so good. Cant complain and the price was right.

Excellent price at the time my purchase was made, and it was shipped within a reasonable amount of time. Has been installed a running for about 2 months with no problems. I would recommend purchasing one if you have the chance.

I bought a WD OEM 1TB Hard drive few weeks ago, it runs slow like hell on my desktop running windows 7. As replacement, 1TB hard drive from Seagate gives me the hope of building a faster system. So if you are look for a hard drive fast enough to fit your i5 or i7 processor and not expensive (like solid state drive), this is it.

I got the two HDs in a week time (free shipping) OEM package. They're worked fine from the start. Fast low noise. one little problem with one Sata power socket it was chipped on the edge... not an issue decided to keep it.

just two things to note ...1. i hate it when i purchase something for $65 and the next week it is on sale for $45.2. you'd think that they would include a SATA cable so that i am able to connect it to my computer.

Got this drive on an Amazon deal. Overall it's not a bad drive for the capacity. The only thing I hate about it is the loud clicking noise each this the drive spins up/down when coming out of sleep or during machine power on.

I bought this drive in attempt to save my failed drive of the same after only 6 months of use. After swapping parts out, the failed hard disc failed to boot and the data was corrupt. So not only did the motor stop, but my data is toast too.I'm a computer geek and have been since 1992 and I have only had Seagate drives fail on me. No more Seagate for me.

My Mac Pro is hungry and so is my raid. This is the only food I feed them. They love it and can't get enough of them. Keeps my computers happy and healthy!

The only reason I can't give it 5's across the board is that I've only had it several days so I have not tested its warranty or even customer service. It was promptly delivered and worked as advertised. It was easy to set up. I just want to see how it holds up. I would recommend it.

I ordered this hard drive and have it in place as my offsite archieve drive. So far so good and would recommend Seagate hard drive as the best quality drives. Amazon's packaged this hard drive is a super huge box. It could and should have used much smaller box to ship it.

I needed an inexpensive, reliable HD and got this. Works flawlessly, you will need a SATA cable as it doesn't come with one. So far so good, best bang for the buck right now at $59.

Bought with 3.5" USB external drive case. Has worked well so far. Very easy to link to USB external drive case. Came in good package that kept it from moving around. Will update later after multiple month use. Can't beat price per GB even at Microcenter or online.

I purchased the Seagate ST31500341AS to replace a smaller drive in a Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ storage array. The ReadyNAS reads S.M.A.R.T. data (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) on the disk. After about 100 hours of operation, the system reported that the Reallocated Sector Count increased from 0 to 3 and warned of a potential disk failure. Drive has firmware version CC1H. Note that Netgear certified this as a compatible drive for their device. Not much I can do until it fails. On the positive side, it's under warranty until 6/15/2013.

I purchased an HP Media Server that was populated with one of these drives. I added three additional drives and ordered one more as a spare. For the better part of a year the drives have performed flawlessly running 24/7. I may never need to use the spare.

I had it as original part from Dell Vostro.After one year it stopworking, totaly dead. This was a home computer with little use, so no excusses.Not having Barracuda again,

After just under two years of ownership, the drive died. I lost hundreds of GBs of photos. Good think I backed them up on my SAN. I will never trust a Seagate drive again.

This is a very fast drive, upgraded from a Western Digital 640GB Black drive to this and I can defiantly tell a difference in performance. Those of you who are having problems with the drive failing or dying need to learn how to update the firmware.

This is a review revisit. I installed this Seagate in my iMac and ran the hard disk integrity and benchmark tests in Drive Genius that stresses the drive and looks for defects. It passed the tests above average and so far has been flawless. I'm the type that wants a reliable drive and if I have one that seems suspect I'll run it through tests that will either verify or restore the drive like new or expose it as unreliable.As anyone who has an '07 or newer iMac they are virtually silent. After installing this new drive I noticed it's normal operating sound level is just noticeable where the original drive had no noticeable noise. This is totally fine. And monitoring the drive's temperature is normal as well.

Great prooduct for the price have not had any trouble with Seagate drives and they have a better warranty that the other leading mfg's
