Oh. My. Goodness! What an absolutely wonderful camera the K5-ii is proving to be....

Picture quality is superb. Usability seemed fairly daunting at first, but having the enclosed mini-manual by my side as a reference point, has been a great aid in my becoming accustomed to the camera and all the features it has to offer.

Everything about the camera is just wonderful. Ergonomically and technically, the camera has proved a joy to use. It is feature packed as all reviewers who have done their research, before or after purchase, will testify to.

A truly magical development of photographic design.... I can highly recommend this camera to photo enthusiasts at all levels of competency. If you are a beginner then you will enjoy honing your interest with this camera. If you are an experienced dslr user, then this camera will further enhance your joy in the art of photography. Guaranteed...!!!

Good entry-level DSLR.

The instructions are in FRENCH so it's been pretty much a case of learn-as-you-go and I am sure that there are many functions that we are not taking advantage of because of this. However, as a piece of kit, it's a good camera - just be prepared to invest heavily in French lessons so that you can read about it.

Wow - what a great camera! I finally decided to transition from my old Pentex K-1000 to a DSLR. Yeah, I know, but I really was resistant to give up film. It has all the functionality and capabilities I wanted - at a great price.

Get a whole lot more camera for a lot less bucks. Pentax has layed out a sturdy, slightly smaller camera body with controls and options on par with the upper level cameras - in an intuitive mix between Nikon and Camera set ups. Easy to use, kit lens 18-135 is weather sealed, quiet and adept. Unless you need stellar video with mike-in or a full-frame camera, this is a great choice. Solid DSLR, which leaves you with more cash to spend on lenses and accessories. Pentax's lenses span the decades and and are almost all compatable with this camera. Tamron and Sigma also produce some excellent options. All in all, this camera is great as an entry DSLR for a photographer who wants to learn and grow into the field. One day, I may realize I need to move on to a full-frame camera (Pentax doesn't make one..yet), but for now, I'm toting my K50 around with a smile.

I brought this as an upgrade to my Pentax K10D, wow what an upgrade, colour definition is much better, exposure is spot on if you use the white balance exposure settings, the detail is splendid, I also brought the battery grip and two extra batteries and it's an absolute joy to use. I can't praise it highly enough

I am not camera savvy so I graduated from my Coolpix auto zoom with apprehension. I did my research and decided on the Pentax over the Nikon (they seemed very close) mainly for cosmetic reasons. Upon first powering up it was a little intimidating but I took time and read the manual while playing around with it. I love the fact that if I think I have messed up the Menu button just sends me back home. The picture quality is beautiful and for my purposes easy to use. It is apparent that the more experienced photographer will enjoy this also. It has so much more than I would ever use.

This looks, feels and is, a quality product. The clarity of the LCD Monitor and photo's is superb.
I was very impressed by the detailed layout in the instructional manual.

I would recommend this camera to anyone starting to take photography serious.

My one regret is that I did not buy the 50-200WR twin lens kit with my initial purchase.

Could not be happier taking fantastic pictures again. Camera is everything and more than I hoped for. Easy to use, easy to set up.

I should have done my homework a bit more before buying this camera. If your primary use is going to be for still shots, by all means....get this camera.

But, if you are looking for a good budget DSLR camera for video, I don't think you will be too happy with the K500. Images are are jittery, and suffer from excessive rolling shutter effects (straight lines become diagonal during camera movement).

It's a perfect compliment to my Nikon D3200, I've used a taking a few nature shots, and it's as good as my nikon, plus it's weather sealed and that why I got it. Will get real test in a week or so when I take it to the coast. It's what I wanted and more.

Finally I upgraded my old Pentax DSLR to something more up-to-date.

At first I had a lot of trouble getting it to work in 'AUTO' mode - it just didn't seem to work properly. But then I found a firmware update on the Pentax/Ricoh site, and now it's working fine.

Results so far have been impressive and I get positive feedback on my pictures. I know the camera is part of that success.

Great filters, I use them on my Pentax K-30 and they have opened up a whole new world of photo styles for me.

The camera is small and ruggedly constructed. Well suited to fast action photography. Controls are conveniently located and easy to use. I would have preferred to have a lock on the mode control dial. 6400 ISO performance is amazing. Menus are extensive and mostly intuitive. The features and modes are more than most people will ever use. I am very disappointed that some of the manufacturer supplied accessories had been removed from the box: Owner instruction manual, Pentax battery and charger. I believe this is a HIGHLY unethical practice.

I got this to replace a previous Pentax so I had lenses. Everything is better including the speed of turning on which is practically instantaneous. I also like the option of using AA lithium batteries although you do have to spen

I've had this camera for over a month and love it! A professional photographer recommended it to me and at first I was a little hesitant because it was hard to find in stores and it wasn't as popular as Canon or Nikon models. But I'm very happy I went with a Pentax. It's the first time I've bought a DSLR and so far, it's been pretty easy to use. I'm still playing around with some of the settings, but overall, it's been great. I had been using a Canon Rebel (that I basically had inherited) and this takes MUCH better pictures. Brighter colors, better flash, faster, etc. My main purpose of this camera is to take photos for my child's elementary school yearbook and I'm really impressed by how they look so far. It has a lot of great filters and effect settings and I find the menu is easy to use. I also love that it's weatherproof. A previous point and shoot camera that I had ended up getting dust inside and became unusable. I would highly recommend!

I love this new camera! I have not learned everything that it will do yet, but I can honestly say it is super easy to learn on.

I've already used this to gather source material in France for a new project. The images saved as DNG's were absolutely stunning.

I haven't bought a DSLR since I bought the Pentax istD as I've been waiting for them to produce a model that delivers more than 20MP.

That was 8 years ago but it was worth the wait.

Good camera but not as much as I was expecting .... I'm enjoying the fact that I'm trying a new brand of camera. I started with a pentax but I've been using canon since then. I don't know if I would buy another pentax ....

This is my first DSLR camera. I've had a difficult time giving up my Mamiya DSX1000, which still works great and although I'm still an amateur, I wanted a suitable replacement for the old Mamiya, but didn't want to spend a lot of money. I decided after a fair amount of research to go with the Pentax K30 due to the weather sealing, although the kit lenses are not weather sealed, which is a bit ridiculous. The fact that you can use any k-mount lens with the K30 was also a factor in my decision. It was easy for me to start taking great pictures right off the bat and the Silkypics Developer, which came with it is also easy to use and allows you to custom develop your RAW photos.The camera is a lot lighter than the Mamiya and feels just as good in your hands. It is also a good deal right now, because it has been replaced by the K50, which isn't much of an upgrade. I think I'll be using the K30 for a long time.

I bought this after reviews on the web, and I'm not disappointed. It's a great camera built like a tank, non of this polycarbonate rubbish, so it can take knocks. It has all the bells and whistles of a high end dslr at a fraction of their price. So all in all a fine camera, and the 18-135mm lens us good too.

This camera was recommended to me by a photographer who agreed that the price was very reasonable for a starter DSLR. I have loved using it so far and am still learning about all the things that it can do (especially as the instructions are in French!)

Every camera brand has its pros and cons. Pentax makes cameras that are often weather sealed, comfortable to handle, have great picture quality, reliable and have in-body camera shake reduction which means lenses can be more affordable. The K-30 fits this summary perfectly. The successor, the K-50, is very comparable but has a slightly more conservative styling.

The K-30 is a joy to use. For the price-range it has a lot of useful features. Picture quality is excellent though nowadays you are more often than not limited by the lens you use rather than the camera (not to mention your own skill). It lacks a few convinces of the more expensive K-5 (or K-5 II) but nothing I personally miss, especially considering the price gap.

If there is a weakness to this camera - and basically all Pentax camera's - it is that they are photography orientated, not video. There are no dedicated video buttons, no external microphone input, etc. But I bought this DSLR to take pictures and as a camera for photographer there is not a weakness to be found.

If you get a K-30 and one of the many great Pentax lenses (the DA 40mm Limited or DA 40mm XS are a good start), there is nothing to stop you from taking gorgeous pictures for years to come.

First of all, an admission: I have only had small digital cameras before this (point and click type where it is all done for you) so I was quite daunted when first faced with learning about, and ultimately reviewing a camera genre (DSLR) I knew little to nothing about.
When this arrived I was more than impressed - this is simply fantastic. A heavy feeling camera, which is virtually indestructible (apart from the lens, obviously);a total of 77 waterproof seals for virtually weatherproof photos for even the clumsiest of camera users; 16.2 megapixels for crisp clear pictures; a body shake reduction feature for people like myself who struggle to hold a camera in one position for the required exposure length; ergonomically perfect design for my hands with all the buttons in the right places so I can intuitively select the right functions; an easy to understand menu system on the rear lcd screen ,with a smaller screen on top to check any other required settings prior to taking your shot; 'green' modes for new users to get to grips with the camera, and then what appears at first a quite overwhelming number of different features to select.
After reading the manual (about 250 pages), looking at books and magazines, speaking to other DSLR users and also online, I now have a good understanding of exposure, shutter speeds, aperture settings etc. and I am managing to produce some excellent results using the supplied 18-55mm lens. I have invested in a lens cover and will be purchasing a few other lenses and filters for projects I would like to try but am finding that the results produced are superb after a bit of trial and error. I apologise that I am unable to report on a large number of the functions at present but will edit this review once I have mastered the art a little better, but I cannot think of a better camera to use to help me on my journey.

Additional Information: I have now had a few weeks practicing to understand the basics and am now able to produce fantastic results, I have taken family photos, wildlife photos and scenic ones and am very impressed with all of them.

It's a well made camera, has all of the modern features. I've noticed it does sometimes think quite a lot before taking a photo, but nothing too extreme.
