Step-up ring fastened easily to my K-50 as did my filters. Just as it should. Microfiber cloth worked great on my eyeglasses, so should for filter cleaning.

I'm biased here since I've been a Pentax lover for my entire life, I'm coming from a K10D and this was a big jump, this one has so many new features that combines a point-and-shot and a full DSLR functionality, gives you a wide range of posibilities

I wrote I was disapointed that the petal lens hoods for both lenses I bought were not in the box. Turns out there weren't supposed to be there in the first place. don't know how to recall the message either. Anyway, camera arrived and its a beauty. cant wait to take it down the Amazon River and the Rio Negro. Leaving tomorrow! Spent some time familiarizing myself with the controls. easy and intuitive. picture quality outstanding. will have lots more time with the camera in a kayak all week so may come back and update the review

The camera seems solidly built but the auto focus and the shutter noise are quite loud. The camera is touted as being able to communicate through WI-FI, but nowhere did I read that the function required a special memory card. As a result, I bought the wrong card. I can't use the camera in the way that I wanted & that was the tie breaker on which camera to buy in the first place.

I'm not exactly a beginner. I am in a media major at school. I know what aperture is. I know what shutter speed is. I know what ISO is. But this is my first dslr. I looked through all the comparison sites and decided that I wanted a Pentax k-30. At this point you're thinking that I'm posting a review for the wrong item. No. I wanted a k-30. But after some research, I found that is has an older (uglier?) brother. The k-50. It was the perfect camera but I did some more research. By giving up an electronic level and the weather resistance, I can save about $100. And what else? I can also get double the lenses for the price. This is perfect. Lenses are working great thus far, though I can't wait to save enough for a 50mm prime. I've gotten a few filters, a rechargeable battery, and a camera bag with the money I saved. Can't wait to go pro :)

My most recent Mid level camera was a Cannon Rebel G, and I loved it. I wanted to wait to buy a digital camera until the time was right, and the technology was up to speed, and I was going to go with another Cannon model, but remembered I learned everything I know about camera's on a fully manual Pentax. This camera was less expensive than it's Cannon counterparts, I've had it for two weeks, and I cannot stop playing with it. It's incredibly user friendly, and just plain fun. My kit, came with both the 18-55mm and the 50-200mm lenses and both are fantasic when it comes to focus and sharpness. I have read some complaints about the lack of heft or size, but it's true what they say about size not being everything. So far I have no complaints.

It was such a struggle to make the final choice, all get excellent reviews, but the K50 won hands down. I bought the K50 in red with the 18-135 lens and am very impressed. Image quality is superb, and a viewfinder to die for. And colours are so true to life. Exposure has been spot on in a variety of daytime lighting conditions. At this price, this is just a brilliant piece of kit.

So i've had the camera for about five days now and can say that it's a brilliant camera. I've had various cameras before, to name a few, Olympus E500, Olympus E510, Nikon D5100, Konica Minolta A200 (slr like compact camera) and the Pentax beats them all for image quality. The menus are very well laid out too, and as long as you use the built in noise reduction, the camera seems to have less noise than any camera i've owned personally. The sheer resolution of the K30 is magnificant, with the 18-5mm lens images are sharpest when an aperture of F8 and a focal length of 35mm is used. The 6 frames per second that the camera can shoot is very fast, I choose to shoot this way virtually always apart from when i'm taking a distant landscape photo and have the camera on a tripod. The auto white balance is always a little cold so you'll probably need to adjust the photos in Adobe Photoshop or another photo editing software, but the auto white balance isn't as cold as the Nikon D5100, that camera shot very cold pictures, even when you adjusted the colour balance in the menu settings.

Anyway, overall, the K30 is fantastic, definately the best camera out there for image quality at this price range. I even tested it against a Canon Eos 6D and preferred the K30. Normally I use Sandisk SDHC cards but seeing as the raw DNG file size with the K30 can be as high as 25mb per raw photo and Sandisk cards can be pretty expensive, especially the 32gb and 64gb cards, I chose to use a Sony SDHC I 32gb class 10 94mb/s card instead. Great price for an intermediate level DSLR. The construction is sturdy and rugged, while being lightweight. The stock lens is mediocre, but whatever... Aesthetically, it is slick, suave, cool.

What's really great is lens compatibility with old K-mount lenses. If you have vintage K-mounts lenses, this is the perfect body for you. Only beware of the infamous Ricoh Pin which in rare situations may cause your lens to become permanently stuck to the body.

In a world of photography overshadowed primarily by Nikon and Canon, having something different feels good for a change.

If you're indie or a hipster, get this camera.

Friendly user interface. Bright LCD. Pretty quick performance and memory writing.

I am happy with the K-50.

I have used Pentax film cameras for over 25 years and have several lenses from my old cameras that will work on the new K-500. I am still learning about the features of the K-500 and am looking forward to using them so I can't really rate that aspect of it. All of the photos I've made so far have been excellent using the automatic mode. My only complaint is that the shutter button is very sensitive and I may take 2-3 shots when I only want to do one. No problem though, I just delete the extra shots.

Been wanting a DSLR for a while now but couldn't justify the price of some of the other brands.
Came across the K-500 when some friends bought a K-50 and got me looking at Pentax.
After reading reviews and considering past experience with Pentax Cameras we bought this one...and we are not disappointing in the least.
It takes great photos. Period.

This is a rugged camera that can still out perform the competition. I shoot mainly in manual and the two control dials are a massive advantage. high ISO was a massive surprise although the live view performance isnt great. I never shoot in live view and i never shoot in video so the lack of a HDMI out put dosent bother me. The camera is advertised as rugged and it defiantly is. Mine has been out in rain sleet and snow, i had landed on it several times while mountain biking and skiing and it is still as good as new. The auto focusing is more than up for the job. image quality is about the same as a nikon d5100, and d7000 while it blows a canon 600d out of the water. My only complaint is that the viewfinder is a little bit dull, It has 100% coverage but it dose annoy me at times. I would strongly recommend this camera to anyone who is looking for a camera at this price point and especially is you do any shooting out side.

Since i wrote the review I have has a few issues mainly with service. I turned on the camera one day and it refused to take a photo, no matter what i did it simply didn't want to take a photo. I then got in contact with pentax, who told me to send it down to jpservices, which I did. Within six days my camera was back with the fault fixed BUT the viewfinder was filthy and the sensor was covered in rubbish that showed up in photos and made them unusable. I then emailed the company and they replied once and then nothing for a few days. I sent them multiple emails and they simply didn't respond, so i phoned them. They told me to send it in again, which i did and i got it back in around six days but when i tested it the sensor hadn't even been touched while the viewfinder was clear of crap it looks as though their is a finger print on the focusing screen. So Another phone call and more emails and i have to send it in yet again. I still haven't got it back. This has been going on for around four weeks, and is starting to make me change my mind about pentax.

I have since got it back and the sensor is clean but the viewfinder still isn't right, it is usable though so i am not sending it back in. It isn't worth the postage

Overall it is still a great camera but the service is truly awful.

Extremely versatile and durable SLR. Photo qualities so far are very good and the camera has survived some minor drops unaffected. The weight and balance of this camera are great. The lens itelf is top notch. I have also used several ancient K-mount Pentax pre-digital lenses with some really neat results - requires a bit of experimenting but if you have some 30-40 year old manual focus lenses they'll work fine!

I was interested in taking pictures with a better camera other than a point and shoot, so I started doing some research. I decided to go with the pentax k500 camera and two lenses because of the price. It is very easy to start using even without reading the instruction manual. This camera takes good quality pictures with good color.

It comes with the two lenses, battery and battery holder, usb cable, strap, and instruction manual. The items purchased were a camera bag and a 32gb sd card,

perfect pentax (k30)? not entirely. as ever with pentax their own brand of lenses are (by and large..unless 100's of pounds is spent) clunky and noisy when focusing and (consequently) obtrusive because of it. a third party (relatively inexpensive) lens by sigma is considerably quieter and makes you wonder why they can get it SO RIGHT and pentax get it SO WRONG?! I defy any pentax user to say that the focusing ability of pentax cameras (in general) is smooth. that aside..the photographic results are superb and given the weatherproofing abilities built into this camera it's hard to find anything that 'offers' such good versatile value. the star of the show IS (without doubt) the sensor..but with that being courtesy of sony..it's to them (sony) that the greatest thanks must go. I DO like the camera and it has its real merits but living with its noisy mechanics is NOT easy and if taking photos whilst the sun shines accounts for your main usage of a camera there are (I believe) easier (to live with) alternatives.

There is something wrong with the shutter on the camera that I ordered, going to see what can be done about it today

Pentax K-30 DSLR Camera Body Only - Black I bought the Pentax K-30 body in December 2012 "with" cashback promotion. I live in Poland and I don't know to I qualify to the cashback promotion. Before the order I was calling to pentax cashback consumer hotline. Someone from the Pentax support told me: "You can ordered this camera to Poland, this promotion cover all European Union (also Poland) and You will receive money when You purchase Pentax dslr K-30 body". After that I ordered Pentax K-30 DSLR body. Camera came before the Christmas. Next I sent completed letter with invoice and claim form to Pentax (before 15 January 2013). Two months later, I had no answer (money on the account). I wanted to know where's my Money. I sent a few e-mails and I called to dedicated hotline number. After exchanging several emails I got the answer: Your claim has been rejected, cashback not cover you ..." I do not know who works in the company... Some incompetent people work on the support line. If i knew that the promotion does not include people from Poland, I would choose another DSLR manufacturer . If the warranty service looks the same, I regret that I chose pentax company... I could buy a Nikon d5100 (or another camera) - the same CMOS sensor, but the price much lower. For the saved money I can buy better lenses. Everybody knows the dslr camera body is not important, but the lenses. I could consider the Canon 600D, although I know that in Poland they have a good warranty service (I fixed compact camera). In conclusion Pentax K-30 is not a bad camera, but I would not recommend this company for the approach to the client. I regret, because I feel cheated. Think before you buy camera from the company... but is your choice what are you buy.

They work well to block the ultra sunny light. And the seller/customer service was very good and accommodating.

I purchased this camera in January having used Pentax DSLRs extensively since the K10D was introduced a few years ago. My most recent Pentax DSLR was the K-5 but due to personal circumstances this had to be sold. Fortunately this was already on the market so having carried out some research I opted for the K-30. My main concern was that I didn't want to be taking a backward step with my photography having used the K-5 for almost 2 years on a fairly regular basis.

I've used the K-30 twice now on days out to test it in the field so to speak. I have to say that I'm not disappointed with it either. For me this is effectively a mini K-5 with regards to image quality which is very important to me. I thought that without the top screen and exterior metering dial I'd be struggling but I've got used to it and the two control wheels help enormously. I've also noticed a vast improvement in the AF over the K-5 which benefits my style of photography. The weather proofing is also superb and if you can stretch to it opt for the 18-135mm lens. I'm using this as well as a DA 55-300mm set-up and for me that covers most focal lengths on a day out when I want to travel light. With the blue body I'm hardly going to be discreet :-) but at the time this was the only body available and there was an offer on this as well.

So to sum up my review this is an excellent mid-level DSLR and it will deliver fantastic images and if like me you've been used to more advanced models you will quickly adapt to the spec & handling of this body. The weather proofing is a big bonus and providing you're using a weather sealed lens then you should be able to use the K-30 in almost any kind of British weather!

The only negative point for me is that the battery life of the Pentax battery doesn't allow for many shots (not me anyway). It's a good idea to either buy a spare or the AA battery adapter so you've always got an alternative battery supply on hand with you.

All in all I highly recommend the K-30.

Full featured SLR camera with all the functions. 16 megapixels, and you can't beat the price as it comes with two kit lenses which are quite adequate for most amateur photographers. I bought a Sigma 50 mm Macro lens and a ring flash for doing macro photography, and it works great. SLR's are more complex and take time to master, but they are so much more versatile than digital point and shoots. It also takes wonderful movies in low light.

does everything I want at a low price only negative is I was getting memory errors changed sd card if it comes back so does the camera

Great camera. Easy to use and the photos are clear. You can do lots with this camera. We'll worth the money. Love it.

Great Camera, image quality is Sick! SORRY- Nikon and Cannon Lambs, Pentax gets it down quietly and with so many lenses to use new or legacy glass.....either way you can not go wrong.
