This camera has exceeded my expectations. I don't believe there is a better camera at this price point. My only minor complaint is with the noise when the camera is turned on.

Great filters for the price. Really like the cap with the leash too. I received the package quickly with everything intact.

This is a fun and easy to use camera. It is comparable to all my Canon and Nikon cameras. I highly recommend it.

I have always admired Pentax cameras and in my time have owned many spotmatics, then the K1000 and mx. Since the advent of DSLR's, I have owned 5 Pentax cameras and still have a K10d and a K5. I also own several full frame Nikons, but prefer the Pentaxes when I need something more compact and light. The K3 is very similar in weight and size to my K5 and the controls are similar, so it didn't require any time to familiarise myself with it. The K3 is small and lightweight for an SLR but the build quality is excellent. I haven't owned it long enough to make direct comparisons with my Nikon D600 with a similar pixel count, but I expect the K3 to match it and with the lack of an anti aliasing filter, probably surpass it. The results from my K5 with just 16mp were biting sharp when printed to A3. I can thoroughly recommend this camera to anyone requiring a compact lightweight but well made and durable
DSLR who doesn't need full frame.

Excellent product not had chance to use it much as intended to take interior shots of boats but not able to do this because of winter. It is an excellent camera though having had a Pentax with film and is superb quality.

This is my first DSLR, as I was shooting film before, and I think it was the right choice. It's honestly a better camera than any of the entry level ones from the other manufacturers and is right up there with some of the mid-level ones. I'm a Nikon fanboy but this Pentax has split my allegiance. It's honestly a better camera than the Nikon D7000 and maybe even the D7100 depending on how much you value bragging about megapixels. I'll just skip ahead. Pros: weather sealing, 100% pentaprism, build quality (not a toy like a Rebel and I honestly think it feels better than the Nikon mid-levels), screw drive for old lenses, really nice video in my opinion. Cons: no battery grip (why why why), lens selection is a bit lacking and they need to make some fast and affordable WR lenses, it should ship with a weather sealed body cap for transport. Other than that I can't really gripe much about it. More megapixels might be nice and it actually looks better in person than it does in most of the photos online. I like knowing where things are made and this is assembled in the Philippines. In the end, it's not as sexy as a Nikon but it's built better and I think it obliterates that company when it comes to value.

I expected mediocre quality for shots of record. With this lens it appears that I am looking through cellophane. I cleaned it off well, thinking that it might be condensation. No change. I am in the process of returning it.

I've always used Pentax SLR/DSLRs and have been using recently the K10D and the Samsung (Pentax based) GX20. It's fair to say that those 2 are very good top-of-the-range models of their era, but starting to look and feel a bit dated. I was simply browsing on Amazon at the current models when I found this up-to-date, but clearly entry-level K-500. But what hit me between the eyes was the amazingly low-price. As the K-500 seemed to be based on the K-50, with a couple of things missing, such as weather proofing, it seemed too good to miss out on - so it was ordered at the last-minute on the Express service.

Today, this came well before the 1pm deadline with helpful updates on both email and text from DPD as to my package's progress.

So far, I've configured the camera with some of my settings and shot a few basic tests. Although the K-500 has some control and menu differences from the older cameras I own, it was relatively easy to find out the features and settings that are the most important to me - even though on a couple of occasions I did resort to the manual (shocker!!!) The manual is nice and clear and it was very easy to find what I was looking for and so far haven't had any problems tuning the camera.

My initial tests are very encouraging and the camera is a lovely little gem of design and very positive to use. At this stage I wouldn't class any of the differences as downsides, more like progress that makes the camera neater and more compact. It would be interesting if any photographers with large chunky hands could pass on their own feedback.

I'll update this review once I have more meaningful shots to talk about, but so far, this entry-level camera is a total steal at

I haven't used this camera extensively as yet but so far I have been able to take great pictures (in manual mode of course) in low light without the use of the flash. I shoot in RAW format and the software included for processing the final picture works well for me since I try to take my shots with the best exposure as possible hence not having to do much with the software. The weather resistant feature of the camera coupled with the 100 percent field of view and the fact that the anti-shake is built in the camera are the points that drove me to buy this camera. I have yet to try out two old lens (about twenty years old) that I have with it.

I purchased the new Pentax K50 body to go with the 500mm Opteka lens; seems to be a great combination....JimMc

I'm happy with it but there is one item that I haven't figured out what it's used for. The rest of it is exactly what I wanted.

I love it in general but i seems that the camera randomly get a problem related with the front scroll that stops working. I have read that with some contact cleaner can be fixed but i havent tried yet

The components are good mechanical and optical quality -- what you might expect from Vivitar. The pouch itself is a substantial part of the kit. The item was delivered ahead of schedule; arrived in great condition and met, actually exceeded, all expectations. I will not hesitate to purchase from them again.

I ordered this camera only a few days ago. I am so excited to start playing with my first Pentax. I previously owned a Canon Digital Rebel and then bought the Canon 60D. I decided to switch systems after seeing the cost of moving to weather sealed lenses and camera bodies in the Canon and Nikon systems. Canon and Nikon do not cater to the crop sensor systems. In-fact, it seems they are pushing you to their full frame systems constantly with lens selection/performance. I was expecting my system to take me years to build and afford until I learned of Pentax.I had heard of Pentax before, but largely ignored them (Cannon Snob). After looking for weather sealed and affordable systems, I came across a few publications about Pentax. I fell in love. I was wowed by the lens selection and price/value of the system. I could easily own a full system of lenses without breaking the bank. I stopped by my local camera shop to test this beauty out and decided I had to have one. I sold my Canon gear within a week and ordered this beauty.I know the K-5II and K-5IIs are available now, but I decided to save a little money and purchase the K-5. It didn't seem there was much of a upgrade from the K-5 to the K-5II, however the K-5IIs does seem to produce very sharp images with the AA filter gone. Still, the K-5IIs was not a camera for me, so really my comparison was between the K-5 and K-5II. Again, the price to performance largely convinced me to buy the K-5. Not enough features / upgrades to justify the additional cash.I will update this review after I have had some time to play with the camera and my new lenses. I suspect after reading all the positive reviews that I will greatly enjoy this camera.UPDATE+++++++I had to buy the K-5 II. Amazon would not fulfill my order for the K-5 :( something about issues with other people ordering them. I understand there may have been a bad shipment and several customers received pour copies. Found my K-5 II for 850 new!!! Loving it!!!

This is a wonderful piece of DSLR, although a bit expensive than the Nikon DSLRs but has a lot to offer in terms of weather resistance and sealed lens. 18-135mm lens has a lot of value in the long term use of the DSLR although it is an expensive buy.

Because of the place i leave, i need a camera handy if i want to go outside (most of the days are rainy or snowy). i love outside shooting, birds and sports stuff. I also need camera sometimes outside because of my profession. I already got other dslrs t3i and d7100, with many objectives. This little fella is my LIFE SAVER. I will not say it gets better pictures than d7100; it is not - as expected. However i dont want my d7100 ruined ( although i use body sleeves for all - i lost one outside). Moreover, quick "paintshop" operations just make it very near to quality of d7100. I bought this set for one grand. It saved me more than a grand already. Whenever it is rainy, snowy or windy i took only this with me. It just deserve all the money i paid for it.

You cannot compare this with other water proof point and shoot ones. This one is way better, near to a performance of t3i, maybe better. It is not as good as my d7100 though, but comparing the quality of them is nonsense. This one is for a different purpose and it works very well for me. Buy it if you are gonna use the machine in heavy weather condition. Otherwise buy a basic entrance level dslr. Price entrance level dslrs are 2\3 of this. If you use mostly inside and you need a good one, buy medium to professional dslrs.

By the way, it might be helpful to remind you, don't change objectives under rain or snow or wind.

I bought it to my wife as a present to learn the photo shooting with a real SRL.
As I had many years experience with an other brand I can surely say I did the right choice. It offers all the options and quality awaited from the more advanced cameras but easy to learn and in a price set of the entry level SLR.
Pentax seems it is not just an old big name... it is alive (I started to think about to replace my old Nikon... :-)

Bought this camera for my wife and I to use. This is our first DSLR so there's a lot to learn. So far it's been pretty intuitive and fun to use.

I had been shooting with a K200D for about 4 years. While it was a good camera, it needed improvement in a few areas, specifically high ISO performance, focus speed and accuracy, and live view. The K50 offered all these things.

With about 500 shots through the new camera, I can say it has exceeded my expectations, especially in the focus and live view areas. Low light performance is much better than the old camera but still not what the high end units offer.

I also got the 18-135 lens and LOVE that as well. It has become my go to lens for almost all situations, replacing the 55-300 which I used to use about 80 percent of the time. That lens still performs well on the new camera but the shorter zoom is much more versatile and very sharp when stopped down one or two stops.

The controls are different than the K200D, especially the two control wheels rather than one. I am getting used to this and will love it when it becomes second nature. I also like the quicker access to ISO and other settings that is available.

Am using the AA battery adapter with Energizer Lithiums and continue to get excellent performance from them.

Very pleased, would buy the camera again and would recommend to a friend.

Had to send it back. The 55-300mm lens in the kit is not Weather Resistant (WR). Why anyone would want a long non weather resistant lens after buying a weather resistant camera doesn't make sense to me.

More than a cut above my last canmera, a Nikon D80. It allows me to pretend I am a professional photgrapher, even though I am just a mediocre amateur.

Great buy! This is the last of a long line of Pentax cameras for me. Again I am impressed with the product and the purchase experience.

Having had a number of Pentax SLR's through the years I absolutely love this one! It is flexible, intuitive and produces some stunning results!

This is one well featured, well priced camera. i replaced my K-x with this one and it's better with the same K-x kit lenses. You put it with some of the less expensive primes and you wonder why people pay so much for other brands. It shoots great in low light with the in camera image stabilizer.

I love the 6fps shooting and the in viewer focus point identifier.
