Product came exactly as described and it's a good one. The wired cap is much useful, and everything comes in a nice pouch.

I've purchased two used K-5's on Amazon both with descriptions saying the camera was in "like new" condition. BOTH cameras were defective. The first one a button didn't work and the second does this violent shake thing when in live view mode (not every time it's turned on but enough to prove it's defective). I have to pay for the return shipping for both of them adding 60$ to a camera I could barely afford in the first place.

I am very pleased with this camera. There was no charger included, although the description and manual suggest there should have been. Because of the bad reviews given for the manufacturer's charger and battery, I bought a different one and am happy with that. Overall I would recommend this camera to anyone who wants wonderful color rendering and ease of use.

I switched from Nikon D40 to the Pentax system, because I now consider myself an enthusiast up from an amateur. Alas in these difficult economic time I can't afford $2000.00 for a weather resistant Nikon with a better sensor, but I can afford the Pentax which has the aforementioned qualities I'm looking for. Pentax is such an easy to operate camera, it has all the switches and dials on the camera, no more diving into the menu to adjust ISO or to get continuous focus or metering. And the lenses are affordable, even for the fast primes as compared to Nikon fast lenses. Backwards compatibility you got it, K mount is a popular mount, this allows for purchasing high quality glass affordably, ebay has thousands of quality lenses. Also it seems that Pentax has enthusiastic fan base with helpful forums, which comes in handy from time to time. For such a powerful camera it's tiny, as small as my D40, and the lenes are small, which is cool for carrying around all day. The down side of being small is my pinky finger drops off the camera, so I ordered a battery grip, and I bet it's still going to be compact. Speaking of ergonomics the camera is easy to hold, due to its deep grip, and the switches and dials have a quality feel. The fit and finish is superb. I'm glad I made the switch, I like being a "rebel", in the world of cameras anyway!

Long time Pentax user but first digital buy. Controls are user friendly. Got outstanding Grand Canyon shots w/o even looking at the manual. I can't think of anything I don't like.

still learning buts its an amazing camera. Works exactly as depicted. vibrant colors and great clarity. Good that I bought this after reviewing canon and others.

I HAVE HAD A PENTAX Kr for two years and remembered why I had more than one body in my 35mm. days and then saw this kit the K-500. Both kits had lenses DAL 18-55mm with K-500, and the K-r had two which included a DAL 50-200mm so with 2 short zooms and one longer one plus a SIGMA 18-200MM. plus 35mm 2.4 fixed lens which I tried with new K-500, what a surprise in quality that was, so if you buy a K-500 and can afford another lens get a prime lens of 35mm. I am not qualified to give a full review on either system but can say I'm more than satisfied with both systems and not being able to take them out in rain is not a problem I never could in 35mm days. .

After nearly two weeks of on-and-off usage some first impressions...
Pro: very good image quality up to ISO3200/6400; rugged; fast and mostly reliable AF; many and flexible settings; efficient handling; ISO priority mode;
Con: battery life mediocre at best; noisy shutter; live view and viewfinder measurements (for AF and exposure) not always in agreement; manual sometimes too terse;

A couple of (cheap) spare batteries are a must; the AA battery holder is probably also not a bad idea, especially when shooting off the beaten track.

I will edit this with a more complete review once I've used the camera for a while.

And yes... it is indeed VERY red though not exactly the Ferrari red I'd expected.

Lightweight and with superb stainless steel and magnesium body, this is the successor to the excellent K5 model. On the surface, very little seems to have changed and the two cameras are very similar indeed. The K5 II is capable of shooting video in full 1080p or 720p, with the abilty to switch frame speed betwen 25-30 fps in 720p mode. The new autofocus system gives much better results in all lighting conditions although it can take a little practice to get used to it. The camera's LCD screen is a big improvement over the old K5, and offers a far better resolution, making it easier to read, especially in bright light. The weather proof body certainly seems resistant to water (I've used the camera in fairly heavy rain) and it's also had it's fair share of knocks over the last few months, but these have left the body undamaged. On the whole, picture quality is very good indeed, although I wouldn't say it was leagues ahead of the K5. Video looks great through an HD TV and still pictures are rich, full and accurate. The kit comes with an 18-55mm lens, although this can be a little on the noisy side when being operated. The only other downsides I can think of are the focus select button, which is has a lot of resistance and the overall complexity of the camera itself. Expect to spend a great deal of time reading through the user manual, especially if you are coming to the K5 II from a much simpler point and shoot camera. The original K5 was the best DSLR camera I had ever used and this one is an improvement. It is certainly worth every penny of the

Pentax is the camera I started with in 1979 and have trusted their products since. With this camera I was able to use an older Macro very expensive macro lens. I have posted videos to youtube and everyone comments about how good the quality is.

Love this camera! There are so many things that are nicer than canon's or nikon's at this price point (100% pentaprism, etc). Only thing that would have made it perfect is if the vf showed the focus points (K-50 does), but I can deal with that for how cheap this camera is.

Filters work just fine with my pentax k-500. They can be stacked (though that will kill image quality). Lens hood can be placed on top of the filters but filters can not be placed on top (inside) of the lens hood Lens hood is great with my 50-200mm lens but shows up in the frame of my 18-55mm lens. But for the price, it's perfect.Oh, and the case is really sexy.

As I use manual mode 99% of the time when using an SLR, my ideal camera would have 3 little wheels, one each for aperture, shutter & ISO. This would allow me to make adjustments without pulling the camera away from my eye to see what I'm doing (I shoot all pictures through the eye-piece).

The Pentax K-30 comes close, having 2 wheels which normally control the shutter speed and aperture, but can easily be reprogrammed for any combination (e.g. shutter & ISO, aperture & ISO, & so on).

This is my third Pentax (or is it really a Ricoh? I also have a K1000 & K110D) but I'm not a "brand bunny", its just that when you already have a range of lenses, it makes sense to find a body to match.

Pros:-
1. Very good for manual operation (what else would you use an SLR for?).
2. Textured "grip" area (for right hand) minimizes chance of dropping it.
3. Sensible diopter adjuster (can't be accidentally offset when someone picks up the camera).
4. Last picture RAW option; if you have just taken a prize winning picture in JPEG (i.e. the last picture you took), you still have the option to save it from the buffer to the SD card in RAW format.
5. Its weather resistant. I wouldn't use it in the bath, but I don't have to run for cover when it rains.
6. I think its a much better camera than my wife's "fair weather" Canon EOS 1100D.

Cons:-
1. Can't think of any.
2. I've had this camera 3 months, and the weak link is the idiot standing behind it.

Amazing shots, love the features and can't beat the price. I can use all my old Pentax lenses on it as well, which is a pretty good saving too.

A good standard mid range camera, for someone wanting that little bit extra.
I used a wide angle lens with the camera and it became twice as good.
It is heavy, bulky and does not hang well around the neck when sitting on your chest, and care must be taken when carrying over the shoulder to prevent knocking the lens. though this would be the case with and SLR?

All as promised. Great price! Nicely packaged and arrived quickly. I like to protect lens with filters as well as employ them for effect and these filters are just what I needed. And you get extra stuff.

So,I will not reinvent the wheel. Read the glowing reviews of this camera and take everyone's word for it. This camera rocks. I bought this camera for three reasons. 1) It's a Pentax and I have been happy with Pentax since I bought a Spotmatic in the early seventies. 2) Some of the forum reviews thought the K-5ii feature set wasn't worth the higher price vs. this camera, 3) I was going to the Burning Man festival and I wanted a weather-sealed high end camera to use in one of the harshest environments on the planet. All I can say is that I have not been disappointed. The camera worked like a dream. I am totally happy with my photos and despite heat and ferocious dust that thoroughly coated the outside of the camera (aka Playafied) it never quit. Indeed I have not been able to detect any dust getting inside the camera at all (don't take off the WR lens though). BTW: I bought mine from Beach Camera and was totally satisfied unlike another recent reviewer.

Had a K5 for about a year now and needed to replace my backup camera (a K100 super) so this was the obvious choice (other than getting another K5). The differences are not immediately obvious from the original K5 and it feels exactly the same in the hand and I've not noticed any other operational changes. Images appear to be pretty similar too though I've not done a full range of images to enable me to compare them to my K5.

I've always had Pentax camera and though I have been tempted to move to Canon or Nikon I have stuck with them. The reliability of the cameras makes them worth considering and the build quality is great. Though the K5 isn't water proof I can certainly vouch for it being weather proof. I've used my original K5 in rain snow, sleet, and the other extreme of the heat of death valley (119 degrees) and I have had no problems at all. You can be confident that the camera body will work under most conditions.

This is quite simple the best camera I've ever owned. It takes great photos and is very well built. I wasn't going to upgrade yet. I'm the type to wait until a new electronics product has been out for a while and dropped in price, but the reports I've seen about this camera triggered my choice to take a chance.The first thing I noticed is how petite the K-5 looks, though looks are deceiving. This baby is dense and weighs much more than you'd expect from the size. I'm sure that the magnesium body and extensive weather seals have a lot to do with that. This is one solid piece of kit. The camera has plenty of external controls, about what you'd expect from a body in this price range. I've shot with my sealed K20D in the Pacific Northwest rain a lot with no problems. My two shoots with the K-5 in the wet show it to be as least as good. Though Pentax has dropped the multiple exposure button. You can program the custom program button to duplicate that feature. As far a programming, the K-5 has the extensive customizability I came to love with my K20D. The feature list is extensive and way too long to go over in a short review.And the photos! This camera has a huge dynamic range, over 14 stops! Even at ISO 800 it has the same exposure range of my K20D at 100 ISO. The tonality you can get from a print is beautiful. Another nice feature is the ability to choose 14 bit as opposed to 12 bit RAW files. It's a small thing but brings the camera in line with Nikon's offerings. I can't comment on the many shooting modes and effects available. They only apply to JPEG images. I don't understand why anyone would buy a camera this costly and capable and throw away so much potential image quality by shooting JPEG. That's not to say that the JPEGs from the K-5 aren't perfectly fine. They are. It's just that RAW files from this camera hold so much more information than a JPEG can. And that information translates into a very real difference in what you can print if you take the time and care to. My experience seems to mirror the incredible sensor abilities that DXO Labs has published for the K-5.One other huge advance is the focus speed. This is the fastest and most accurately focusing camera Pentax has ever built, easily in line with Canon and Nikon's offerings in the price range. One small disappointment is that the fast focus and 7 fps capture rate makes the camera suitable for sports and wildlife photography, but the camera has a somewhat limited buffer. The 40 frames of JPEG is reasonable but the 15 image RAW buffer is a bit cramped. But then Pentax doesn't make the long lenses for that kind of photography anyway. Though Sigma does make some with Pentax mounts. With the few ballgame or bird photos I take, I haven't found the buffer limit to be a problem.Looking at my histograms shows that the K-5 has a tendency to underexpose about a third of a stop. That's really no problem as I've pulled usable photos out of totally black portions of the initial image, great reason to shoot RAW. Another is the great low ISO capability of the K-5. the quality of my 6400 ISO photos is slightly better than what I get with the K20D at 1600 ISO, easily 2 1/2-3 stops improvement depending on situation. And the camera focuses much faster in low light, too.If I were a video shooter I might find a problem with the lack of autofocus in video mode. The newest Canon and Nikon cameras have that ability, though the autofocus is slow on both during video capture. That's the nature of phase detection focusing that true DSLRs use in Live View or Video. The couple of videos I've shot look great. It's enough for me. And the camera does allow for an external microphone.P.S.It was commented that this review is to impersonal and that I use terms that people don't understand. To make this more clear:14 stops of DR means in the real world is that my photos look better than any I've ever taken. Color gradations are smoother and more subtle. It means that I'm able to pull usable details out of parts of the image that I would have given up on before because they were too dark. It means that I can take single shots in situations where before I would have used HDR or exposure blending to pull in detail in both bright and dark areas of a scene. It means that I can the same tonal range at ISO 800 that I get with a K20D at ISO 100. It means that this is a terrific camera. I guess I'm a bit excited that a Pentax camera finally gets great press. I'm a bit tired of having equipment that I very much like ignored by most photographers.

For the price, this camera is everything you would need to begin your photography hobby. It is solid, the weather seal really comes in handy for the winter time, (much lower operating temp than rival nikon and canon cameras),

In body Image Stabilization is pretty nice too, another big upgrade that is not found in the entry level canon/nikon camera.

If you are wishy washy on buying outside of the big names, I would say just go for it. you wont be disappointing (unless you plan on taking your hobby to the professional space down the road)

Great camera for the the price, can be as simple of as complicated as you like and quite capable of amazing results

When I dropped my Pentax K2000 on the pavement it set me up to have to buy a replacement. I wanted to stay in this price range and looked at both the K30 and k50. I am very happy with my purchase. The menus are similar so learning this new camera has been pretty easy. Having video in my dslr is a nice bonus. One difference in this camera body is the wheel located near the on /off switch. It is taking me awhile to get used to it and it is easy to spin that wheel when I am intending to turn the camera off or on. I am very pleased with the richness of color that I am able to achieve in my photography using Pentax cameras. This is my third Pentax, the first was a point and shoot digital that was stolen out of my car, the second hit the pavement and I plan to send in for repair.

All I needed in one easy package. You can spend a ton more for one filter, but why? We are not professional photographers, but we like good photo's! These are prefect!

All my old SLR continue to work on a great camera. I got my first Asahi Pentax Spotmatic in Japan in 1967. I will be a loyal Pentax customer til I am pushing up daisys
