The technology behind the Wii is just amazing. It is incredible how swinging the remote in space can be sensed correctly by the system in determining whether you made a jab or a punch or a forehand or a backhand -you get the point. This is like bringing high quality simulation to the family room. In the near future, we will soon have training games that make a person better at say, golf or any other game.
It seems that the Wii sports package that come as part of the original purchase is all that we need right now. The games - Bowling, Baseball, Tennis, Golf and Boxing - are all high quality fun. I never thought I will try Boxing, but it is the game I, as well as my wife, have enjoyed most. What's more, is it gets your arms swinging quite a bit and at the end of the day, you will end up with quite a sore arm (which is good anyway). Yes, the Wii is something you have to get up and play! Don't think you can get your daily dose of workout here, but it is better than playing a video game sitting. One fun part of the Wii sports package is the Fitness challenge. I came up rated at an age 80 :( On my defense, this has got more to do with the skill/technique required than physical abilities).
One thing that other gaming consoles boast about is higher definition (better than 480pi). But, the other dimension that the Wii provides - involvement physically - far exceeds this drawback. So far, we have just tried the Wii Sports that come with the base package. The graphics is fun and I haven't found a need to appreciate more than it is.
If you have a wall mounted TV or are planning to get one, then you will see quite a few wires that need to come of the TV. These aren't an eye-sore, but if all other wires are hidden, you may want to plan for wires-behind-the-wall.
I really haven't found something to complain about. The remote comes with a strap now that secures it to the hand and keep it from flying off and hitting nearby objects or the TV. If there can be some improvement, then built in storage to hold many games would be an advantage as one doesn't need to keep popping in and out DVDs.
Lots of fun in store for the family in this gaming system! With the summer coming up, you will have a little less to complain about your child's time with video games. Video games are better this way due to physical involvment and this can be a starting point.

With that said, I have also had some reliability issues with my Wii. The first console gave me consistent disc read errors on all three of my games, so I called Nintendo about it. After talking to/persuading a CSA to send me another console, I got a new one (it's actually refurbished I think---had a sticker on it that implied it wasn't new). My second console has worked fine, except that I still get a lot of error messages when playing Wii Sports. So now Nintendo is sending me another Wii Sports disc, and I'm hoping that will work better. I will update my review when I test it.
In addition to these issues, I bought some Wii Points through the internet connection on my first console, and the CSA I spoke with the first time said that I would be able to transfer them to my replacement console. Well, then another call to Nintendo after the replacement console arrived, and I am told that I can NOT transfer the points (worth $30) to the new console. I end up having to speak to a supervisor, be put on hold many times, get a call back a few days later, etc---before they finally relented and put the points on my new console. Bottom line: be really careful about buying stuff through your console, because if it dies, your stuff is lost (exception: games you have previously downloaded should be download-able again).
All in all, I love my Wii and have had mostly good experiences with Nintendo's customer service. Good luck finding a Wii, and have fun.
EDIT (10/15/2007): My second Wii Sports disc seems to be working better---not getting the error messages on the second console now.

If you want to buy online, I recommend you to use a debit card with just the right ammount of money charged, that is, the price of the object you are going to buy, the shipping charge, the tax charges (if it is neccesary) and a little extra money, just in case. Even when amazon is a very secure site for buying, taking some extra measures to avoid internet phising or any other ciber problems its indeed a good thing to do.
Buy safe, enjoy and take care.

The wii is perfect for my family. My six year old can play all of the included sports games -- and can win against older kids and adults so it keeps her engaged. Plus we have a couple of new singing games (Disney Sing It and HS Musical) that are ideal too.
My ten year old loves the sports games, but also enjoys the Star Wars and Bash games. The resolution and gaming is not an issue -- the Star Wars games look great and play great.
Its perfect for the family -- everyone can play and have fun. I highly recommend a wii.

Motion controls are a great addition to many game titles.
Play many great GameCube games(backwards compatible)
With internet connection download your favorite old video games for cheap
(Super Mario 3 anyone)
WARNING: Many companies are putting out very very bad games, trying to cash in on the Wii Sucess!!!!!
Here are some great ones
Must have games
-----------------
Zack and Wiki
Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection
Super Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Mario Kart
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Resident Evil 4
Wii Fit
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Bundle
Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree
Okami
Wario Land: Shake It!
Battalion Wars 2

If you have wireless access, you can go online and download some interesting sites, such as weather. You can also download some games from there at a reasonable price, but in my opinion the options are lame.
You create a character for playing games and keeping track of scores and records. This sim called a "Mii" and can interact with other Mii's.
I wouldn't recommend this for "gamers." We haven't bought any games based on action or strategy, but it doesn't seem much is available.
We also got Guitar Hero which is the same as in other game systems.

I've lost the 5 pounds I gained during the Holidays within a week (and I didn't diet or anything... just didn't eat as big a portion and played this game... making sure I did some stretches with Gilad on Fit TV first to help me get high scores and beat my husband's.
It can get competitive but competitive fun for everyone! And if you like wii fit, you got to have this console :)
the only other one I'd recommend is Xbox 360 Console Includes 20GB Hard Drive so you can play Xbox 360 Rock Band 2 Special Edition after exercising on the wii fit.

We give this system 5 stars!

They all enjoy a lot with teh product.
I played with this and it is fun
i hope they will find it interesting even in few months

Since few things are indestructable, however, what happens if your Wii goes kablam and gives up the ghost? Recently, one of our remote controllers stopped functioning. It continued to work on some movements, but was non-responsive on others, primarily swinging. After replacing the batteries, and doing all of the basic diagnostic things you do when a piece of hardware is being stubborn, I took a visit to the Nintendo website to find out more. The problem was documented there, and it did seem to point to a failure with the remote. I visited some other websites and got the same feedback. All that swinging around and shaking of the remote, can, in some cases, result in a damaged controller. It's not common, but it can happen. I went back to Nintendo.com and followed the links to the customer service section. After filling out a brief form (which doesn't ask for any product info other than what's wrong with the device and the month/year it was purchased) I was told to wait for my UPS label to arrive within 4-6 days. In three business days the label arrived, along with a statment saying that there would be no charge for the repair. The device was mailed off and I am currently waiting for it to be returned. The wait time is guaranteed not to exceed 4 to 6 weeks. That may seem like a long time to do without a controller, but I'm a pretty cheap person, and I would gladly wait that long for a free repair. Not to mention free shipping & handling.
Good customer service (or, "great" customer service in this case) goes a long way with me. I can forgive a lot of things except for companies who refuse to stand behind their products. In this case, I have to say that Nintendo just made me a lot happier with my Wii investment.
In short, if you do happen to buy a Wii - which, for my money, is undeniably the best system available - and you encounter a malfunction (other than throwing your remote through the television) rest assured that Nintendo will make the replacement a painless, albeit "inexpensive," experience.

We were lucky enough to get a Wii at Best Buy the day we decided to look for one. There were none available online (at a reasonable price), otherwise we probably would have bought one from Amazon.
I think my favorite "game" is the Wii Fit. We did have to wait for that, but it's worth it. The Wii Play, which came with the unit, is still one of my favorites. And I like House of the Dead. Sometimes you just have to go out and kill zombies. :) Oh, and Mario Kart is also a lot of fun.
What other game can people of all skill levels and ages play together and all have fun? What other games don't leave you with sore thumbs? OK, there might be some out there, but this is the best system. You get your whole body involved and you feel like you've done something.
Now, if Nintendo would just get around to making them a little more available, that would be great.
