The console looks and feels flimsy, which we now know it is. Friends had warned us that these units break easily, so we treated it very carefully. Nevertheless, the unit died after 5 months, refusing to load a disk and deleting our saved games. It's just my wife and I being careful with it; I can only image what kids would do to it.
This was doubly terrible. I was nearly done with Lara Croft, and my wife with Zelda. We lost all that work. The thought of having to wade through the less interesting levels just to get back to where we were is not fun.
We should have listened to our friends, who said to get an XBOX or a PS3. We didn't, and now have to get the unit fixed, but neither of us wants to deal with that, or with getting back to where we were with the previous games, or even playing long games again knowing how likely it is to break.
Was it fun while it is working? Yes.
Was it fun when it breaks? No.
Would we do it again knowing what we now know? No.
Do yourself a favor and consider this purchase carefully. Now consider it again. It is an expensive unit, with expensive games and accessories. It really should last.

Now we know the graphics arguement. But you really REALLY have to consider this thought process.... what do graphics matter if the game play is no different then it was on the past generation? If there is no difference in response, in condition, then the development is purely surface. A common theory is that we have entered into a stage of development where we dont create new, we simply improve upon the old.
Wii may be an improvement on old concepts, but it is a new. It is not simply wireless remote with tilt response. it is a vast responsive system. It measures speed, and angle, gyration. its connection to the system is very tight. I had my doubts about how responsive it would be.. I was foolish to doubt.
Going back to graphics and game play. The demo disc (wii sports) that was included is a good example of group play. Bowling and golf are very strong titles, offering complex control of your tilt and curve of your remote. In bowling, A friend of mine has a wicked slice and was able to simulate that perfectly by going through the same motions he does when he bowls. Same story with golf.
Tennis and Baseball is about your swing. You dont control the physical movement of your player, done automatically, but it shows the potential. Also your pitch is influence by your throw style as well.
Boxing requires the most response from the control system, and for the most part delivers. In the heat of the fight, you tend to move less controlled, and the remote wont throw a punch unless it is a solid punch/jab, so half-a** punchs dont always register... DONT TAKE THIS the wrong way, its very minor and not often this happens.
Again, the graphics are not PS3/360 level... but why do they need to be. We arent talking atari 4600 or ps1 level here. We are talking crisp graphics that even the ps2 would have balked at. smooth lines, blurs, clean. Its nice and eye pleasing.
Outside the game, you can make your own avatar (mii) for you and your friends, if you have internet, you can set them to wander other systems, and in the end you can even have mii visitors. The virtual console channel (its all set around channels) lets you buy new games from older consoles, so if you have the option, buy the classic controller (it hooks to the remote, so its wireless) too. cost is no more then [..] per game, so enjoy the potential that is supposed to grow weekly (wait and see). More channels like weather, news, and browser, are to be unlocked through january... here's hoping for more.
So, if I didnt own all of them what would I do? Buy the wii first. BEST all around FUN machine. The graphics are pretty, the game play is tight, and the enjoyment certainly lasted a LOT longer then it did on the others. More then this, it fulfilled its promise, people who arent gamers were playing, laughing, and having fun. And then they did something else, they wanted to come back and play it more.

games such as Super Mario Party 8,Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, and Harry Potter and the Order Of The Phoenix the games play great and they read the remote and nun chuck controls excellently. The video is good but don't expect quality like the Xbox 360 or PS3 the wii has the lowest video graphics of these three systems that by no means lessens the quality of this system but again don't expect breakthrough video on these
games to much. So I say if you can get this system as soon as possible and if you can find one in a store since their still selling like crazy...GOOD LUCK

I hope this helps.

pros: inexpensive gaming console
loads of fun to play
the sports game it comes with can keep you busy for hours, a few months later and we still play it together as a family.
good customer service
cons: the controller takes a while to get used to--but when you do get used to it, it is no longer a con but a pro--because this is the best setup ever.
games are a bit pricey but thats how all game systems are when they come out, make sure you try games before you buy or at least read many reviews as it really sucks to put out 50 bucks on a game that isnt good.
the batteries in the wii mote run out and you will have to have spare aa batteries on hand, to overcome this it is easier to get rechargeable batteries or the wiis charger and stand.
pay an extra 40 bucks per controller and 20 for nunchucks x3.
overall we love our wii, even though we had to send it in. but since we got it back, the games load tons faster than they did before.
if you register your wii on nintendo.com they extend your warranty by 3 months so instead of 1 year you will get 15 months. nintendo has excellent customer service but i highly recommend anyone who has a wii to register it so they will have their warranty in place just in case. also check your game discs often to make sure the system isnt messing up your games ie circular scratches. i am sending my game back in again to nintendo, and hopefully they will return it fixed or replaced. will update when this happens.

all my friends have wiis and they love them. when i go over we could spend hours playing tennis or boxing like a champ. i have even bettean my dad well mabey thats because i have lots of energy and he dosen't. my friends are very supportive that i don't have a wii and let me play as much as i like when i go over to there houses. now i no you might have some diffrent opinons but don't we all. if you can find one thing wronge with the we put it down so the whole world can see that even the wii has things wrong with it and nothing can be perfect.
now i am no game excpert but i say that the we is one of the worlds must advanced peace of gaming in history of gameing and i bet who ever designed it has made millons. but thats just a guess have you ever thought about making the next great gameing system or the newest coolest phone. that seems to be dreams for lots of kids or mabey its the money that gets them stated. oh i don't no but when you really think about it wiis are just another way to suke people dry.
many people think that giveing there money for a wii is giving money for a good cause well in a sense it is because you now own the most advaned gameing system in the world. people all over are waiting for stores to get in more wiis so people will wait months for them to come through mail. the games seem endless and alough its nice for the wii to have the light someday there will be an even better gaming system that will steal the wiis light.....

So in short, if you'e been a fan of videogames all your life or are new to the scene, the Wii will NOT disapoint. Act quick, because the Wii happens to be quite a difficult item to reach these days.

The only game we've played so far is the Wii sports that comes with the system. Granted, the graphics may not be as good as what you will find with the Playstation and XBox, but the time we've spent playing the Wii sports game has been great! We enjoy the exercise required for the games and I've enjoyed seeing our kids enjoy playing with the game and interacting with each other - much more productive and more conducive to stronger relationships as opposed to just watching the tv!
If you are looking for a system oriented to families, then the Wii is for you. If you looking for higher-quality graphics and games with more mature themes, then the Playstation or XBox will be better.
We can't wait get to get more games for the Wii and enjoy more hours of quality family entertainment and exercise!
Highly recommended!

I used to be hooked into the perpetual upgrade cycle of hardware that exists on the PC gaming front, but somewhere along the way over the last 7 or 8 years, the industry became more about eye candy and less about the actual game. If you look at most of the top 10, 20 or whatever number of all-time game lists, you'll see games that are often way behind the graphics curve. Most of them are lacking visually simply because they're older games (i.e. Diablo or Half-Life for the PC), but the main point is that they're fun and they leave the player with a memorable and entertaining experience. All the eye candy in the world simply cannot make up for a game that lacks that. There are plenty of gorgeous games with no content to them, and shelling out $400 or more for systems to play the latest in games with cutting edge polygon counts, textures or rendering is akin to throwing down hundreds of dollars on a mannequin that looks exactly like Jessica Alba in the flesh.
Not that there is anything wrong with the PS3 or the Xbox 360, but there's a reason why the Wii is outselling everything else; it comes down to fun (and price). Yes, there are crappy games on the Wii and a lot of really fun games on those other systems, but in my opinion, when the Wii developers get it right (i.e. Metroid Prime Corruption, Wii Sports, Resident Evil 4), the experience is far beyond what you can get from games on other consoles. If you're enjoying the gameplay to the fullest extent, most people don't even realize that the graphics aren't perfect.
The lower graphics tech is part of what keeps the system's price down, which puts it within reach of just about anyone with a job and the ability to save money. Personally, despite still having both a high end desktop and laptop PC suitable to run the latest whiz-bang games coming out, I haven't even looked at either of them for games since I purchased my Wii...I spend my time playing the Wii or looking at the release dates for the next Wii game that I can hardly wait to play. And coming from a former PC game and hardware-junkie, that says a lot.

I just recently bought a Wii. I have had an Xbox 360 for a few years and it, frankly, has not done much for me. I play it for about a month, then put it down for 6 months. A few games might draw me in, but the game system doesn't draw me in.
If you want long involved games that take months to complete, then Xbox or Playstation is more your cup of tea. If you are not a big time gamer and just like short simple type games, then Wii is your cup of tea.
More than that though....it is a whole new concept that gets you up and off your butt. There is something different about the ability to really do the game actions rather than just holding a controller and pressing buttons. I love holding the controller like the handle of a bat and swinging it when the ball comes on the screen. It gives a whole new element of fun when playing over game systems like Xbox and Playstation.
Kudos to the Wii!! I'm VERY HAPPY with my decision to trade in my Xbox 360 and get the Wii. It was one of the best decisions I've made.

The part we like best is that he's not sitting in front of the
computer or TV. He is obsessed with it, but it's active and it
get's him interested and excited about classic sports. Overall
it's a good thing and the whole family gets to be a part of it.

In terms of all the new platforms (xBox 360 and PS3) it is the most affordable of the three. Plus, you get so much included - a hard drive (don't have to fork out more $$) and a wireless antennae built-in (a[...] add-on for the other platforms).
A hard core gamer will still need an xBox 360 or a PS3 to get your full gaming experience, but families and aficionados alike will love it!

The biggest advantage that the Wii has is price. To get the entire console at $250 is amazing! And I appreciate their simplicity in offering only one console instead of a core system and a higher-end system, something that aggravated me about the other two consoles.
On the innovative side, the Wii comes now with the remote and nunchunk. I was pretty surprised while playing to learn that the remote actually has a speaker inside. That is pretty new as well. But the remote looks like a small TV remote and adds a new level of flexibility to gameplay. For one, if you point at the screen then it can pretty much function as a mouse. It can also detect if the remote tilts in one way or the other. For instance, while bowling if you tilt the remote to the left when releasing the ball then the ball will curve left. In boxing, if you lean to the right then the body of your boxer leans to the right to dodge a blow from your opponent. There is a driving game where you can use the remote as a steering wheel. Again, this is completely innovative on Nintendo's part.
One complaint I have heard about the Wii remote is that it is easy to break once you get into the game. I can see why. While playing baseball or golf you swing it like a bat or a club. Also in baseball you throw it like a baseball while pitching. Instinct almost kicks in and makes me want to let go of the remote during the pitching part of baseball.
There is a learning curve to the remote as well. However, the Wii comes with Wii Sports to get you familiar (like how Bill Gates threw in Solitaire into Windows to help learn the mouse). Wii Sports will not keep you entertained for long because they become quite boring after you master the use of the remote but it does do a good job of getting you over the curve.
The remotes are also in short demand right now and most games seem to have written the use of the remotes into the games as an afterthought (the largest exception being Zelda). But I think games in the future will be written throughout with the remote and nunchunk in mind and these games are going to be amazing.
The graphics are not as impressive as what you'll see on the XBox360 and the PS3, but the DVD quality is good enough when you are more interested in playing and having fun. Don't get me wrong, the 1080 resolution is very impressive. But after you get into a game, the graphic difference becomes irrelevant if you are having fun. And the Nintendo Wii is a load of fun!!
One last note. While searching for a Wii I went to many stores (Best Buy, a few WalMarts, Target, several Game Stops and many others). I noticed that a lot of the XBox360's and PS3's were frozen or out of order. Very few demo machines actually worked. But I never once saw a Wii not working though all but once had a classic controller instead of the new remote. I've read that PS3's can overheat and the XBox360 can crash on occasion (Windows!! Typical). So I'm glad that the Wii comes out quite solid.
So, Wii loses in graphic capabilities but wins in price, fun, stability, and innovation. Choose which is more important to you and then go with that decision.
