Netgear has created subtle technical blockages designed to extort a great deal more money out of consumers.Refurbished products older than one year are sent out by the Netgear factory without the correct website address needed to complete your basic setup, DSL provider settings - hence no Internet connection. Since a refurbished unit is out of warranty, Netgear wants a large tech support fee just to provide the troubleshooting steps necessary to get the correct static IP address needed to access their Setup website. Only a fool would pay that tech support fee, so one must wait 48+ hours for an e-mail support reply. The serial number necessary to download firmware is painted over. Even if you do manage to register the product and download the firmware for the router, you end up with a zero (0) byte CD - no firmware because the unit was refurbished and they blocked\botched the program.

After purchasing this product, the company is immoral about not stating in its description that it has had firm ware malfunctions. Additionally, I phone customer support has such a heavy accent they are unable to be understood. Chat support has only provided instructions that are in Greek, do not work, and have hung up from the chat session. The router is junk if you are looking for a reliable piece of equipment. Aside from the cost of the router, I have spent hours and hours in trying to fix it - and that is priceless in terms of time and effort. So, now you know what to expect when purchasing this product.Update: Netgear responded to my request to return the product for refund by saying they do not do this (except through retailers) which makes them immune (by their standards) to terrible product quality. This means that state, federal and independent agencies will now be contacted to review them not for only their products, but Netgear as a company. In the end, changing their ways to be more consumer oriented will probably have been the better choice.

I initially started with the Asus AC router...what a mistake. It gave me all sorts of issues just trying to get it up and running. Plus it needed to be the primary router...that would have made me change up a lot of configurations. Anyhow after trying for 4 hours I returned it. (I did not buy that from Amazon...what a mistake)I bought this from Amazon with 1 day shipping and as soon as it arrived I plugged it into the living room. It recognized that it was the second router in the home and the think actually configured itself...I have 2 net gear routers. I believe the other one is the previous version that I use as my main router. This one is used to expand the wireless signal in the home. Fairly large home one router could not cover the whole area. This router did the trick. The network performance on the 5G band has been greatly improved. My Ipad's, Nexus 7, laptops and phones all connect noticeably faster. Wireless HD streaming is also perfect even up to 1080p there is no lag.I would recommend this product over Asus. I did not try the Linksys, but have read that it has had a ton of issues. This router was performing so well, I got one for my Sister-in-law and My dad.

all router product pages from all manufacturers are full of people complaining about 2 main issues.ISSUE ONE: DIFFICULT SETUP / UNABLE TO SETUP -> most of these folks simply lack the necessary know-how. Routers require a bit more skill/tech background than everyday windows / osx navigation. Manufacturers often make things worse by adding "features" that appear appealing but require even greater expertise to handle or are simply ill-developed... router USBs particularly fall in this category...ISSUE TWO: ROUTER DIED AFTER X PERIOD OF TIME -> this second complain is valid. Routers often die in action. Especially heavily operated routers placed in badly ventilated areas are prone to malfunction or die prematurely. More than often it's their tiny PSUs to blame. If your router starts misbehaving try another PSU...Now, on to the netgear dgn3500...+ Gigabit Lan ports!+ Descriptive front panel. Gigabit LAN connections go green, lower speed LAN connections are displayed amber...+ Router page allows to put names to mac addresses, the single ability i greatly missed on my belkin playmax.+ Router displays mac addresses attempting to connect, user can select them and allow them... no more "ipconfig" each time i want to allow a new computer through my mac address filter.+ well placed ventilation holes and a 1.5A PSU (instead of most common 2A PSUs found on gigabit routers), a sign that less power is needed than the competition ...+ WiFi on/off hardware button as well as power on/off button.+ Router based traffic meter per user definable time periods.+ large but slik design... easy horizontal or vertical setup with supplied vertical stand. power input is placed far from the lan ports... design doesn't look internally crammed, which i find very important for an "always on" device.+ instead of offering yet another inoperable "torrent mode" this router does not offer one at all, leaving that job to a proper NAS... Indeed this router's OS includes features that are meaningfull whereas other brands stock their products with flashy features that fail to yield acceptably errorfree results.So far the router appears 100% stable and able to fully utilise my adsl nominal speed. Wireless is also reliable and fast for it's spec range. Finally, Gigabit lan ports are a must!

Good connection through put, I can connect across 3 walls including the cooking range, a refrigerator and a fireplace coming between the devices across approx. 100 ft linear distance on both bands. Printer got a new life as a wireless printer.Cost a bit too high but it is worth the money. Sadly, there are only 4 ethernet ports which is a limitation for all the wired connections.My configuration is a little tricky because I use a DSL modem as DHCP and the 6300 as another router/access point (DHCP) and a 3500L as an access point w/o DHCP. Printing requires me to connect to the 6300 so the printer becomes accessible, it is a little painful but best configuration from the point of view of speed.Eventually when the price drops, I will consider another 6300 to replace 3500L and make it work as a repeater.Unit is a little too large and takes up vertical space which implies I have to get shelves done for additional height.

I purchased this router last week (so not lot of experience) but found it great so far. Main reason for my purchase was to replace an ageing router to improve the range in my house, this is the best purchase for this year which included two laptops, two ipads, one ipod,cordless phone set, windows phone and probably other junk which I don't remember. The ipad mini was also very good until it worked, it stopped connecting to wifi after two weeks so had to return it.Coming back to the router, it was a breeze to setup and the internet speed which was slow for one particular laptop went up from 1 MBPS to 10 MBPS at my favorite spot in the house, the increase in that speed triggered this review. I had issues with one of the IP based cameras which stopped working even after port forwarding on the new router but turned out to be the issue was with manufacturer DDNS and as soon as I moved the IP camera's IP to purchased DNS it worked fine.I have setup the guest access too and both 2.4GHz/5GHz connections working great. If something changes I will update the review. Hope this review was helpful!

I bought this router at Staples a few months ago to replace an older D-Link Gaming Router. I decided to opt for the best router I could find, since I have many wifi devices in my home, and stream a lot of content around the house. Router setup was quick and painless, and literally was just plug-and-go. The Genie router software is surprisingly robust, and very easy to deal with. It even lets you view traffic data, which you don't see in many default manufacturer router software. I won't even have to switch to custom DD-WRT software for this! The router strength is absolutely superb. Every inch of my house is covered in wifi, and I consistently get maximum speeds throughout. I get 50mbps down/25mbps up here in Georgia, and Speedtest shows that I get 55mbps down/25mbps while connected to the wireless N (5.0Ghz). Absolutely no slow down at all when going from ethernet to wireless! All in all, this is an EXCELLENT router, and will offer everything you'd ever want in a home router. It's even future proof because it comes with 802.11ac!

For right now this is the latest and greatest router to have in your possession. Right out of the box it was very easy to set up. If your not the "tech-savvy" type, all you have to do is follow the instructions out of the box... I upgraded from the Xtreme N Gaming Router DGL-4500(which is a great top of the line router) to this one and I am really pleased with the range and speed of this router. I upgraded because the Xtreme N Gaming Router DGL-4500 kept giving me problems by turning off and having problems where I would have to do a hard reset from time to time. So far this router has been doing great for me. It handled my laptop(*2 including my wifes), iphone, Nintendo 3DS (*2 including my wifes), and Playstation Vita all without breaking a noticeable sweat. Also I'm going to be connecting the PS3, XBOX 360, and Wii("""Nintendo Wii U""" when it releases this holiday season 2012) to this thing and see how it handles online gaming. Oh yeah, did I say the "range" was A-W-E-S-O-M-E... I actually went out to go get something to eat and while I was walking down the sidewalk next to my building I had a strong connection. I got at least 25 to 30 yards away and I still had a strong connection. If you have a humongous house then the further you get away from the router the weaker the signal would weaken with every wall you hit. But, this router kicks out some firepower so if you are willing to pay the price I would say go for it cause it is well worth the little time you have to put into the set-up and the whole time you will be using it to share your wi-fi connection with the whole family. This really is a great Router.

I bought this router to replace my old 6 year old "G" router. My Old "G" router was fine for the time.. but since then our "Network" needs have grown. We have an XBOX, Netbook, MagicJakc Plus and a PC. It had come to the point that if there were 2 items being used on the Network.. they would interfere. For example if I was using the phone with our MagicJack and my son was on XBOX live playing an online game.. he would have lag issues and my phone call would be staticky and most I would most likely lose the call. I can say now since getting this new router. We have been able to successfully use the Netbook, do a phone call with the MagicJack, have my son on XBOX live playing an online game ALL AT THE SAME TIME with absolutely no issues. The phone call was clear, his gaming was lag free and my wife did not complain about the Netbook being slow. So if you need a router to handle many items at the same time. This router will do the job exceptionally well. This router also has AMAZING range. We were outside in front of my neighbors house and he could pick up our home router signal with 4 out of 5 bars.. where as to his was only 2 bars. LOL. So the range is great. One other aspect is the set up. I do not even want to call it a set up. I pretty much took it out of the box, plugged everything in, launched the web browser and BOOM we were on and ready to go. Just had to input the security password for all of the wifi products we were hooking up to the wifi.. and done!. Great router... well worth the money.

We have an older Verizon Fios router (UltraLine Series 3) for internet that also transmits our Fios TV signals (coax), but has pretty slow and terrible Wifi coverage. The problem with Fios TV users is that you cannot just give up your old router to upgrade to a new one because you need that coax TV connection for your TV viewing. However, you can use this router to strengthen and extend your wireless signal. Basically the Netgear becomes the wifi router while the old Verizon router still does it's old things (wifi is disabled). See here for instructions: [...]I can attest to you that the Netgear R6300 works absolutely flawlessly and set up is easy, even having to go through those extra steps for our Verizon Fios connection. We get strong wifi connections throughout the house where previously we had none or had weak connections. Both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands work well, and using both depending on your devices helps unload the network. The ability to attach storage and a printer to the router is awesome as well. We've had this setup for several months now and have had zero problems. I'd highly recommend this even for the price.

Finally.....Yes Finally a router that impressed me from the start. My town probably has the worst Suddenlink DSL service in the nation so many of my router problems I wrongly attributed to them. I attributed it to them because I have "gone through" several different routers and always had sub standard WIFI service. Even my wired desktop PC didn't preform really well. When running Netflix, we spent more time watching it buffering than the movie. I have always heard you get what you pay for and all the previous routers I owned ran in the $80 to $100 range, so I decided that maybe I should spend more to try and find the Quality I wanted. I installed the Netgear60 last night in under 30 minutes( most of this was checking out the new features) and I was immediately impressed with speed of the time to get Internet access and browsing. For the first time in years we watched Netflix without it buffering one time. I love my new Netgear60 and the features. I know that one night or day does not tell how well this product holds up and preforms later on but even a 20% decline in service would be 80% better than I had before.

I bought this router because my current one hasn't been able to handle my home's increase in bandwidth need. When we got the old one we only had 2 devices tops. Now we have 3 lap tops, 1 desktop, 2 kindles, and 4 smartphones running through it and it kept having to be rebooted and having intermittent errors. So this time I shopped only for higher end routers and the R6300 fit the bill. It was easy to set up. I like the dual band feature. I really like the guest networking capabilities to help keep our private network secure. I know this may be gross but I can now facebook or stream video on the toilet :) or in my bedroom. Couldn't do that before without constant pauses for buffering. Where my desk is at I only got 3 bars connectivity before, but now all bars are up and I have greater performance out of all of my devices. You get what you pay for and this router is worth the money.

pros:easy to set upreally nice lookingreadyshare is easy to usesharing for guest is active in both bandsparental control very nicemanage limits of broadband and limit of time of useCons:for me i dont know other but i have some issues to share with DLNA with both of my TV samsun 46eh5300 and LG47LW but with my cellphones and bluray the sharings works fine i assume is some issues with the ip or mac adrees some stuff like that (the con is that the router doesnot fix that for itself i have to do it and i dont know how)some times the genie says is not connected to internet but my speed in torrent does not get cut and when i open a page it says there is no connection so i think some kind of bug in hte hardware maybe or software !!! (i have to enter genie and push the button to fix it ,the router fixes it in no time and is everything OK)other than that is really nice Router really fast double bandgotta be carefull cuz it gets scratch really easy

I received this item today, and I am fairly tech oriented. I spent at least 5 hours trying to configure it for access with my windows 7 pc and could not even log in to the router! I could log in from a mac, but then could not log in at all from my ios6 wireless devices. In complete and utter frustration, I am returning this purchase until Netgear can improve their product. I have never been so frustrated--now completely unwilling to try this product again. In all fairness, did I call support? No, I did not. But I have installed the last 5 routers over the past 10+ years in my house without ever having to call support on any previous occasion. Why did I not then give the product 1 star? Because my Imac connected flawlessly and immediately, despite no other (of two) win 7 computers and no wireless devices being able to with WPA2 enabled. I was able to set security to off and connect, but in this day and age that is not really an option.Poor choice, and an expensive one at that!PS-I love buying from AMAZON since the return was so simple. Thanks for that.

Got this because my 7 year old wireless router just was not keeping up with the demand in our house. I did a lot of poking around and found for our family this would meet our needs now and in the future. Setup was easy and the Netgear Geni works great.The only downside is it will not recognize my wired network capable printer. I can hook my printer to my old router and a new unmanaged router and I have no issues finding my printer. For some reason this router will not find it. Tech support was of no use. I had to use a USB cable to the printer and Netgear's ReadyShare Print app. This only works on one of my computers. The app causes my other computers to crash. Of course Netgear's tech support would not help resolve or fix this issue either. I realize I could buy a new printer and that might work, but I do not think I should have to do that seeing how it worked so well with the other 2 routers.

I bought this to replace our Cisco EA3500, because basically it sucks and in order to get help with it we have to pay a service fee. We have never used Netgear before and I wish I had switched a long time ago. We needed to cover a 1800 sq two story house with at least 5 wireless devices on it, laptops, Mac Tower, PS3, Ipad etc.. The set up was amazing, it took me a whopping 5 minutes if that to get it going. We Our internet connection is Directv and its upstairs. Right away we noticed an improvement in performance and speed. All of our devices were able to connect easily. The speed difference was awesome, especially playing Black Ops on PS3, definitely notice a huge improvement. The ability to access the admin controls on the R6300 was very user friendly. I would definitely recommend this productNETGEAR Wireless Router - AC 1750 Dual Band Gigabit (R6300)

I was in the market for a replacement router since we bought a new Smart TV and the crappy old router that Comcast gave me two years ago wasn't strong enough to support it. It was so easy to install and the moment that I had it online everyone in my three story house could tell the difference immediately. It has excellent range and I was able to connect to the Smart TV right away even though the TV is on the third floor and the router is down in the basement. It is rather large as I read in some of the other customer reviews but since I have a media center cabinet I just placed it on top out of the way and everyone has gotten four bars on their devices ever since. Great investment for the future since it has the one touch connect button for WPS, supports HD streaming, and is compatible with the next generation WiFi devices. I spent a long time looking at all the different products offered on Amazon.com and decided that I would go with quality and cough up the money to support my family's ever increasing desire for wireless devices; I am so glad that I purchased this router and I recommend it highly!

I bought this in August of 2012 .. For the first two months everything seemed fine but then it started to slow down and getting the WiFi to stay on became a problem. The WiFi would be on and then just drop for no reason ... All the wifi channels would be on and one by one they would shut down, reset and come back on.. Not only is this plain annoying but making me want to get out my old netgear 3700 ... It didn't have this problem .. I thought this would do everything I needed in my office with the distance it claimed and all the bells and whistles this said it had...I have been a loyal netgear user and not had this kinda problem out of any of my netgear products, but after calling netgear and not getting any answers for this problem I may have to find another setup... Can't afford to keep playing games and not getting products that do what they promise. If I ever get this working will revise this review..

I noticed the Guest Network on this router is completely missing. It does not appear anywhere and there is no way to configure it. I put in a call to Netgear and they are looking into the situation and I will receive a call from the ticket being elevated to senior technicians. The tech I had took over my computer and agreed it was missing. Well, purchasing a brand new router on the day it was released can have glitches in the firmware but the whole guest network missing? I await the senior tech's call.5-29-2012 - As of this writing I have not received the call from the senior technician that I was promised. I have also noted that the wireless range on the G network is very restricted next to the WNDR4500 that I still have. I swapped the routers back and forth to confirm this and each time the G network range on the R6300 was far less than on the WNDR4500. I have very reluctantly sent back the R6300 since these two issues make it a deal killer. The WNDR4500 is operating wonderfully and I intend to keep it until another generation of A/B/G/N/AC is released and the firmware issues are settled. I really like Netgear products and I have 5 of their 8 port gigabit switches and I have loved their past routers. They made a misstep in releasing this router before it was ready for the consumer. The firmware is in great need of an upgrade since the wireless guest network is missing and the range of the G network is so abysmal. I will still look at Netgear products but I will not be the "first on the block" with a brand new device again since thorough testing does not seem to be done before release. Long live the WNDR4500!

I used to initially not like the Netgear products, used to first have a Belkin. Finally after i noticed the then robust Netgear wireless router N600 (WNDR3700)2 years ago, i got that one.It worked really good for almost 1.5 years and then all my devices (computers/iphone/ipad) stopped detecting the 2.4 ghz network and even though the devices (other than iphone) detected the 5 ghz the signal used to drop now and then.Few months ago, after checking reviews on Amazon and local stores i got the Cisco Linksys EA4500. In just a month, i noticed that the 2.4ghz signal some times was weak. Then after reading the great reviews on this product (R6300) i got this one.This worked great for 3 weeks, the online steaming with netflix/hbo go or streaming videos from my NAS were just fantastic. I thought this is it, even though i was little concerned with the amount i spent on it. But now suddenly my iphone and ipad are not detecting either 2.4 ghz or 5 ghz networks. My computers work perfectly fine. Not sure why the apple devices are not working.I thought may be its got something to do with the ipad, so i restarted it few times still doesnt help.May be mine is a faulty device. I am giving the 2 stars for the Best performance i had experienced with a wireless router.Guess i will now have to try the Asus RTN66U or get back to Linksys EA4500.Final word, i guess there is no PERFECT WIRELESS ROUTER!!

NETGEAR Wireless Router - AC 1750 Dual Band Gigabit (R6300)I had purchased this router after reading the reviews in Sept 2012. After initial setup had some problem with firmware update. The speed drops, Router stop working, firmware update are the most occurring problem. The router stop working all of sudden, When I contacted Tech support, Techie was more pushy to sell me the extended service contract. You spend $ 199.00 for the router which dies within 6 months is a bad product. I will not recommended any one to waste money for this high cost lousy router.

The number of devices utilizing my home network has increased greatly in the past few years.I needed more bandwidth and a better router so I scheduled an install of 50 Mb cable internet and started researching routers.I had always gone with Linksys but was turned off by their "constant connection" with the Linksys servers.This router was an absolute breeze to install and to configure.No CDs needed to install!(Actually, I really didn't HAVE to do much of anything to get the router and network up & running but I did WANT change my network name and set my own password.)I currently have six to eight devices using the wireless connection and three devices hardwired into the router through a switch.Having the option to allow "Guest Access" when the kids or friends come to visit is a real plus!The router handles everything effortlessly. And I really like being able to choose which devices connect to which frequency. (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz).It is easy to change which channel the router is using so I don't conflict with the neighbors and the NetGear Genie app makes it easy to see which devices are utilizing the network at any given time.I'm not necessarily a "beginner" but I'm no "internet guru" either.This router, combined with a robust internet connection, has allowed my home network to go from "wimpy" to "SOLID".I would definitely recommend it!The price stings a bit at first...but it is much better than the remorse of buying garbage.

This is the only router I have been able stream HD video across the house from my media servers to my PS3. I have clients with large properties that need coverage and this device gets it done well. The coolest feature is the wireless grid that you can create by linking 4 of these machines together to create a very large wireless network. No wires required. Don;t need powerline switches to add wireless coverage in different areas of a property. I'm so happy with this thing. I make sure that the stores in Key West are sold out of this product all the time. purchase this modem to replace a 3 month old ATT modem. ATT said the ATT modem only lasts a year max. Plugged the Netgear in and used the setup wizard to connect to ATT. Connected and requested a password which I had to call ATT for. If it was not for the clueless idiot at ATT it would have been working in 5 mins. Took a lot longer the that to get the ATT modem to connect.The one thing not mentioned in the setup is that once it connects you must restart the network in you computer (or restart the computer) so your computer picks up the new network information.For advance users the modem provides great features to fine tune your home network not included in many other modems.Still wondering what part of "what is my DSL password" the ATT guy could not understand.
