I purchased this router a few days ago to replace a D-Link DIR-655 that was starting to give me problems after several years of great service. I decided to go with the R6300 due to the (assumed) forward compatibility with 802.11ac devices.I have set up several routers in the past, along with range extenders and access points. Based on previous experience, I was expecting a tedious ordeal, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I could not believe how simple this router was to set up. I followed the 4 step process outlined in the included instructions, which took approximately 5 minutes. I had my desktop computer hardwired to the router, and I launched the browser per the instructions. Within a few seconds, I had a message that said "congratulations, you are connected to the internet". At that point, I hadn't even been into the Genie setup screen. I thought to myself "it couldn't possibly be this simple", but figured I would test a wireless device anyway. I tried my android tablet from another room, found the network, entered the default password, and immediately connected. I proceeded to do the same with my laptop, and had similar success (150Mbps from another room).I then went into the Genie setup software, just to review the settings and check for a firmware upgrade. There was a firmware upgrade, which I applied in a couple of minutes. I tweaked a few of the settings based on personal preferences for my home network, and then I went around the house connecting all my wireless devices.I should note that I currently have only 2.4GHz devices, so I cannot speak to the performance on the 5GHz band, but I suspect it would only improve. I am getting good range with all my devices, even my DVD player, which is only about 20 feet from the router, but is behind 3 walls and is located inside an enclosed entertainment center. It showed 3 out of 5 bars and has no trouble streaming Netflix and Amazon Instant Video.I've had it up and running for about 72 hours now, with no dropped connections. So far, I am very pleased, and can't wait to try 802.11ac later on when devices are readily available.I cannot stress enough how simple this router was to set up. My wireless network was up and running in 10 minutes, including unpackaging and reading the simple setup intructions. It was a little more expensive than other dual band routers, but it will hopefully work well when the 802.11ac standard is more widely adopted, and my 2.4GHz performance has been outstanding. I'm very happy with the purchase.

I bought this router to replace the pitiful router that Time Warner provided me with with I signed up for their cable modem service. I wanted three things from a new router:1. A separate Guest Access (it is becoming more and more common to give a guest access to your network but I wanted a completely separate SSID and password that I could reset if need be without having to re-connect all the wireless devices that I have in the house). The N900 goes above and beyond by providing guest access at the 2.4GHz (b/g/n) and 5GHz (a/n) frequencies. Impressive!2. USB connectivity to a hard drive in order to have a network attached storage. Talk about simple, I plugged in my portable Western Digital hard drive and Voila the Ready Share feature recognized the drive and it is now available for wireless access from any computer in the house.3. Range: With my free router from TWC, I was dropping down to 2 bars in the living room and losing a wireless signal entirely in the back yard. Now I have a wireless signal half way down the block. And I can chose my frequency in order to avoid interference from my two neighbor's wifi networks.I thought it was important to dispel a rumor that "Does not work with MAC". I don't agree. We have two Macbook Pros that I am running and it works fine. Both Macs are able to connect to the router. I have one Mac that is connected via ethernet with no problems and I am able to view my wife's computer on the network with no problems. We are a bit of an Apple family here and I have both our iPhone 4s, her iPad (2nd Gen) and my Apple TV connected to the wireless network with no problems whatsoever. Both of our computers are able to access the network attached storage (portable hard drive I have plugged into the router) by opening up my Lion OS finder >>Go >> Connect to server >>type in NAS name that I gave it through the Netgear Genie. Super simple! Now I can backup my wife's files to the NAS while she keeps surfing completely interrupted. No more having to pry her Mac out of her hands in order to back up her files! Also, I had no problem whatsoever in connecting my printer to the network in order to have wireless printing. I have a HP C6180 and it connected wirelessly right away. It is a wifi enabled printer but I could have connected it via USB (N900 has not 1 but 2 USB ports) or just ethernet and I am sure it will work all the same.I also have a Galaxy Tab connected to the network again with no problems to speak of so it works with Apple and Droid products alike. Now here is where it gets really cool. This router has the ability to be a media server. All the photos, vides and pictures that I store on the drive now connected to the router can be accessed/viewed from my PS3. All the folders on the drive can be viewed right from my PS3 Remote. You can put together a slide show of pics and display the slide show on your 50in Plasma in a matter of minutes. The only shortcoming of the router is that the ReadyShare Cloud isn't available yet for the MAC OS. It states that it is "Coming Soon" so once available, I will definitely be taking advantage of this feature. Nothing beats cloud access to all your files on the your shared drive!I don't write reviews often but I found this router packed with so much functionality that I just had to take the time for this write up. I hope you find it useful. In closing, I am so glad I went with this router over the Apple Airport Extreme.

****Update 4 Jan 13****After the wireless connection was dropped during the radio show (referenced below), did a little research and decided to change the wifi channel to 11 (after determining the optimal channel using inSSIDer). Since the change to Channel 11 (a little over a week), haven't had a single problem, so as I stated previously, when its working as designed > 5 stars.************************We've had this router for almost 2 weeks - setup was a breeze and connectivity for the first few days was terrific. After 4 or 5 days, the modem to router connection started dropping randomly (i.e. no Internet access at all). I'd have to unplug the modem connection into the router and plug it back in to get it to reconnect (after trying several different variations of powering down/up the modem, router and computers, this method is the only one that consistently reconnected the modem to the router). The last couple of days, that problem has been replaced by a wifi connection that drops once or twice a day. To fix it, in the wireless section of the router software, I have to reapply the wireless settings and, after a few seconds, all is well again. When the router is working, the range is terrific (we connect desktops (windows-based and mac), iPads, an iPhone, an XBox and a couple wireless printers - located all over the house including the basement) but we're really disappointed in the inconsistency of the connections. We work from home and also do an Internet-based radio show - random connection drops aren't going to cut it. Last night, 10 minutes into the radio show the wireless connection was lost - to say we're frustrated with this router is an understatement. The connectivity issues may leave us no choice but to try something else.In short: 5-stars when working as designed, 1 star for consistency

I have been a Netgear fan for a while now and I've been using their routers for quite a few years. This is by far the best router that I've had, it's everything I have come to expect from Netgear and more. For starters, I love the user friendly approach that these routers follow! Setup is as easy as 1, 2, 3! Just follow the easy setup manual to connect the router properly, open a web browser on your computer, and you're done, really! That's it, you're done! It even gives you an automatic wi-fi password! The whole setup process takes from 5 to 10 minutes tops. This router also let's you setup a temporary signal to share with visitors or like me, neighbors, you assign the time that you want to allow them to connect to your router, from 2 hours to as many months you'd like, after the assigned time, it will block the signal. Cool, huh?You can also plug in an external hard drive straight into the router and share it with different computers around the house within the same network. I usually use this to stream videos, music and pictures to my PS3.And now for the best upgrade on this router... Range! This router excels when it comes to range, I went walking down the street with an Apple Touch just to see how far it would take me, it took me about three houses down before it started loosing signal. This is just great!I have various devices working online, including two xbox 360's, one PS3, Wii, 2 DVR's, two Apple Touch, two iPhones and one Droid 4 running on this thing (wired and wireless)just to see how much it could take and I had not one hick-up during testing. This is overall a great product and I highly recommend it.

First, I'm glad I made my purchase through Amazon, even though I could have gotten this item about $20 cheaper elsewhere. My luck over the years has not always been good with electronics, and the two or three previous times I've had to return items to Amazon the experience has been excellent. This is my second Netgear R6300. The original, three days prior to receiving this unit, was completely DOA. It wouldn't even light up the Netgear logo in the middle. I contacted Amazon via the normal online ordering process, and they had a new unit on its way that day. They paid for the the return by E-mailing me a prepaid UPS return label, and I took the defective unit to a local UPS store the next morning. The setup and installation for the second unit was flawless. I had already installed and played with Netgear's Genie program on my older Netgear WNDR3700, and that made things easier. I don't have anything running the new AC protocol yet, but the write-ups I'd seen indicated that the overall signal strength for N would be much greater than that offered by my older router, and they were right. I had never been able to use 5 GHz wireless N on my 3-year old HP laptop, because the signal was too weak a floor below, after having passed through a couple of walls, and about 65 feet of distance from my router, so I always had to use the very overused 2.4 GHz frequency. This new router gives me a solid maxed out 5 GHz signal at the same location, so now there's nothing competing with my laptop while using it on the internet. I've now been using the router for a little over a month and a half, with absolutely NO TROUBLE on my Earthlink DSL source, and I'm getting a distinctly faster throughput than I was before. I'm looking forward to that far away day when I acquire my first AC protocol device.

2011 UPDATE: Well, it's been almost two years that I've owned this router and have been dealing with it's "issues". Every time I seem ready to move on and swap it for something trouble-free (relatively), it seems to behave, like it knows it's going to be replaced. Recently, after a few months of ok service, it suddenly gave me horrible service on my g network. My N network was completely fine. I was so frustrated that I unplugged the important stuff and took out my frustrations on it. I usually treat my electronics with respect and care, however, this one did not return the favor. So, I gave it a "what for" on the floor, made a huge racket and relieved some stress. I figured, 'hey, it doesn't work, anyway'. After the knock-down-drag-out part was over, I tried a new setting in the web control panel. In the Channel selection, mine was on Auto and it gave me HORRIBLE service. I picked a random channel, and it's been fine ever since. Like I flipped a lightswitch. Now, it works beautifully. My phones, istuff, roku, printer, cameras, HDD, all work great on their respective networks. Go Figure.END 2011 UPDATE* * GOT DROPPED SIGNAL? UPDATE THE FIRMWARE :) It's easy & cheaper than buying another router (& better for the environment). It may not work for everyone, but it worked for me, on my refurbished WNDR3300, well enough.PRE-FIRMWARE UPDATE EXPERIENCE - (Highlights in CAPS or, skip down to the Summary if you'd like):I've had this router for almost a year. When I purchased it, I was really the only one using the wi-fi (on a vostro laptop, running vista, and on a Nokia phone), my beau used the wi-fi rarely (on his latitude laptop, running xp, as well). It worked ok. Would drop signal every few hours on me (more or less) and a few times an hour for my beau. For me, the signal would return within a minute or so, for my beau it was a much more frustrating experience. Maybe that's why he rarely went online. A few months in, I bought a wi-fi-enabled canon PRINTER, I set it up, was concerned about the dual-band thing, but all went well. Works fine. A few months after that, we bought a WII (YAY!) it connected to the wi-fi fine, stayed connected for the most part, when needed. The router range seemed ok, but we were in a small house at the time. Then, we moved and just a few months ago, we signed up with NETFLIX (love it!), and a week later, we received a disc so we can stream TV shows & movies to our TV, via the wii. This is when we started to really notice problems with the connection. Maybe it's due to the energy star part of the technology?? The situation went from bad sometimes to terrible most of the time. I would reset the thing, mid-movie, over and over again, it was just awful, 90% of the time, the other 10%, it worked fine. Nothing's worse than getting really involved in a heart-wrenching movie about a young boy who runs the Boston Marathon, hoping a win will save his dying mom, just to be confronted with a still shot and a slowly-moving red "Retrieving" status bar, as he and one other runner race to the finish line. UGGGH! After a number of movie nights interrupted in this way, I decided it was time to buy a new router. I went on-line to do a little research and saw that others were having similar issues with this router, and someone mentioned a FIRMWARE UPDATE. I know how much FW updates have improved the function of my nokia phone, so I decided to try it. 2 stars, before updatePOST-FIRMWARE UPDATE EXPERIENCE:It was super SIMPLE, almost painless to do! You just go to the Netgear website, open the instructions and follow them. It includes going to your router's control panel, via your web browser and clicking something to the effect of 'update firmware'. It really was super easy. And it FIXES the problem! Well, the router does drop signal once in a while, but not nearly as much as it used to! I'd say this router was giving us problems 80% of the time, before the firmware update. Now, I'd say it gives us problems 10-20% of the time. Still not a 100% running router, but I already paid for it and it does have the cool dual-band feature (so I can run wi-fi N, and my beau and the rest of the house can run wi-fi g). In addition, as an extra measure of precaution, since it seemed from reading the reviews that the router's problem occurred when two or more things were wi-fi'ing on it, I hooked my laptop up to it via a CABLE. Have no problems with that connection, whatsoever! The printer, nokia phone, wii, and latitude, all seem to be utilizing the wi-fi 4 out of 5 stars. Note that this router does have the feature to NOT broadcast the SSID, so only those devices which already know the SSID, and enter it, can connect to it. I think that's a cool feature, good for privacy and security, I'm assuming. I tried to disable the SSID broadcast after the FW update, but my devices (or maybe it was end-user) had some issues reconnecting to the wireless network. I just re-enabled the SSID broadcast, put a little faith in my neighbor

I was actually tired of dealing with Linksys so I purchased this router instead. I must say that this router is more stable but it isnt compatible with Samsung 3D LED TV's or mybook world external HDD networks hard drives. Another issue with this is that it doesnt automatically recognize DLNA devices in your home. Previously before this purchase I had a Linksys EA6500 that I couldnt stand because it constantly dropped signals but must say that atleast with the EA6500 it automatically recognized DLNA devices in my home without any setup at all. Just plug and play and would pick up automatically on my TV's, XBOX 360 and my Computers. With this Netgear AC1750 it wouldnt recognize it at all and after calling Netgear tech support in India or Iraq, they couldnt assist me with setup and they tried to get me to pay for premium support. I tried to get tech support to help me with the setup of my Samsung 3D LED TV and the tech support guy told me I had to call Samsung to have them change the IP address on the TV "Really"! Anyways, after dealing with tech support that couldnt help me fix my issues, I switched back to the linksys. In no way am I trying to get you to switch to linksys but must say that even though the linksys is not as stable as the netgear router, it is compatible with my netbook world external 1.5TB HDD that I have in my home and its also compatible with my TV.Bottom line, if you have a small home maybe 1 to 2 stories and you dont have any samsung devices or a mybook world external HDD then this would be the router for you... If you have a big 2-3 story home, then you should probably go with another brand...

This was my first Netgear router purchase as I have always purchased Linksys routers however my Linksys WRT610N would loose the connection to my ISP also to my computer that is wireless downstairs. I had to purchase a Hawking Repeater in order to strengthen the wireless signal to the computer downstairs. I figured it was time to replace the router so I seen this Netgear and read the ratings and figured I would take a chance on it. I disconnected my repeater and installed/setup the router which did not take much time and was easy and I have had no issues with signal strength or dropped connections to my ISP. The wireless signal fluctuates at times but does not go below "very good". The other feature I love is the guest network so when you have company they can have access to the internet but not to your local network. For anyone who is having problems with their wireless signal I would definitely recommend trying this product, they also have an app for the iPad or Android devices. I would like to see the app improved as you do not have all the functions available as when you log-in via your browser. Lastly I would like to mention that on this router they have the word "NETGEAR" in the center on front of the device and it stays lite all the time and is very bright, especially if you have your computer located in your bedroom. You can turn off the router via the power switch, however I would like them to add an option in the settings to dim or to turn it off.

Bought this router after reading a glowing CNET review that gushed platitudes about this new dual band AC router.True, the power is impressive, covering a much greater range than my existing D-Link DIR 655. No question about the range. It is, again, amazing. However, I just returned the device because CNET and Netgear need to be a little more forthcoming. Here is why:My home network on the D-Link DIR 655 wirelessly broadcasts to an iPad, an iPhone, two HP laptops, a Roku device, and a Wireless Canon MG 8120 printer that is situated NOWHERE NEAR the D-Link router. To configure the Canon printer with the new Netgear 6300, THE PRINTER MUST REMAIN CONNECTED VIA USB TO THE NETGEAR 6300 while running a Netgear utility in any computer using the Netgear PrintSharing utility.Unless my Canon MG8100 was connected to the Netgear 6300 by USB, The Netgear 6300 could not see the printer!!!!Amazing step backward IMHO. Imagine, we take a step forward with router speed and range, while stepping backward to cable connections at the same time.So unless you want to tether your printer to the router, forget the Netgear 6300 till they implement complete wirelessdevice configuation.By the way, Don't even try to call Netgear for help. Useless!!!!!!!!Why would anyone want to go from a completely wireless setup to being tethered to a new generation router. Again, seems like a step backward.

This is a review of the Netgear N900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router (WNDR4500)I am an IT professional, author of many technical books, and I work from home and needed a performance upgrade from my older Linksys wireless router (Linksys WRT54G2 Wireless-G Router). So I purchased the Linksys E2500 Advanced Simultaneous Dual-Band Wireless-N Router (from amazon.com) and it was a disaster, see my 1 star review there for details. I packed it up and returned it. Amazon handled the return smoothly as always. I decided never again for Linksys. As a replacement, I first thought about getting the NETGEAR N750 (WNDR4000) which had great reviews, but I decided that for the small difference in price I'd go for this top model.I unpacked the Netgear N900 (WNDR4500) and had it installed in about 5 minutes on my home network (with 11 computers and many wireless devices) What I did:1) I made the cable and power connections, and directly connected a PC to the Netgear router to obtain the configuration information.'2) With a web browser I entered the router's web address. The Netgear N900 reported:* a 2.4GHz Network Name (SSID) : NETGEARxx and password* a 5GHz Network Name (SSID) :NETGEARxx-5G and passwordAlso did a firmware update (single click of the notice that it was available)3) I turned on a wireless laptop (Windows 7) and opened the wireless connections dialog, it listed the NETGEARxx SSID, I logged in (with the previous info.) and was immediately on the internet.4) AFTER having confirmed that it was working, I logged into the Netgear N900 as administrator (admin/password) and changed the admin password, the SSID names and passwords. (Then made the corresponding changes on my laptop computer in the Windows' networking configuration.)5) I tested it, did some downloads, Norton and Windows updates and rebooted. Then I went to [...] and watched several of my favorites videos (mostly games) in 720p and 1080p, and the video's played as well as on my direct connection (Road Runner Turbo Internet).Played my PS3 with the wireless connection (online multiplayer) with several games with no visible lag. Connected my Kindles and they worked well.Signal strength is excellent: shows 5 bars everywhere in the house, my previous router showed 1 bar (or failed) at some distant points in my home. This couldn't have been a better experience, great product, fast and I'll update this review in a week to report about the reliability etc.Great quality, good looking device, has 4 LAN ports and 2 USB ports. Includes an network (CAT5E) cable.Highly recommendedUPDATE: Thought I'd give an update after several weeks of use. It's great, really worth the price. We use this router for hours everyday with several laptops, tablets, Kindles, 2 PS3's; have a printer connected, I download software, ebooks, large work related files, view youtube and netflix videos and have seen no dropped connections at all. Signal strength is great. I am puzzled by all the reviews that report problems, couldn't have been happier with this router. I'd buy it again.

i originally bought the Buffalo Air-station but returned it because the range was so limitedi have always liked the netgear stuff because of reliability but i wanted to try something different hence the buffalo.to make this as short as possible i ended up buying the netgear and i am glad i did.the range is crazy the speed is awesome it is kind of ugly at least my wife thinks so:)it would have been nice to have had an e-sata instead of 2 usb ports one is a readyshare port the other is for a print server, this router does run a little hot i think it may be because of the logo backlightat this point i can go anywhere in my house and keep a decent signal.my buddy bought one two, and he brought it over so we could test bridge mode, and man you wanna talk speed @ about 45' from upstairs to my basement through the floor we were able to get gigabit speeds wirelessly if i had the cash i would pick another one for outside use in the summer.the setup is a bit simplistic but usable and there are no full speed periferal's to take advantage of the ac protocol the only way to get full speed wireless is to buy two and run in bridge mode.there is the a6200 usb dongle but it is usb 2.0 witch means it cant get above 450Mbpsall in all i like the router. yes it could be better, but for the currant price its a good deal.just my two cents.

Generally speaking this router is ok. That being said, don't expect to get a 300mbps wireless connection (Channel bonding). My laptop that I know for sure to be wireless n @ 300mbps capable reports a connection of 150mbps and never 300mbps with this router. I have connected to other networks at 300mbps with the same laptop so I know it is something with the router. Now, I know the actual throughput speed of a proper wireless n @ 300mbps is about 8 megabytes per second and the best I have seen it perform is momentarily about 5 megabytes per second tops (which is better than wireless G) but, you're going to be disappointed if you intend to stream true hd in your home network (or copy large files to or from a NAS through the wireless.I don't want to say that Netgear falsely advertised this router to be wireless n 300mbps capable, maybe if your house is somewhere such that your nearest neighbour with wifi is like a mile away (meaning no interference on the wifi channels) you may be able to connect at 300mbps. But technically, if your wifi isn't the only one that your laptop can sense, you're only going to get a 150mbps connection. If you're going to use the wired lan connection, the gigabit ethernet will meet or exceed your expectations. They really did a good job there.

I bought this unit to replace an Actiontec 802.11g to take advantage of the 802.11n adapter in my new laptop, and for the USB port in the Netgear so I could add a networked drive. Also I was told the range and speed of the 802.11n was much better. WRONG! The Netgear signal is weak, and led to problems maintaining the internet connection. Speed was MUCH slower. For instance, when logging on to Facebook it was sometimes 30 to 60 seconds before I could scroll down the page. With my Actiontec I can scroll down as soon as the page loads. It's about 60 feet from the modem to my office with only one interior wall, and it has an open door. With the Actiontec I get 4 bars of signal. With the Netgear I get two to three bars, the same signal as two of my neighbors and they are several hundred feet away. Netgear did respond to my e-mails quickly and they recommended I upload a new firmware, which I did, but it didn't help. After working with the unit for several days I gave up and am sending the unit back for a refund. Could it be that the Actiontec has an external antenna and the Netgear doesn't? I do know this - no more Netgear equipment in this house. It's a shame Actiontec doesn't make a unit with a USB port.

I got the A6200 to use on my netbook and with the Netgear R6300 router. I had constant and flat download speeds of about 30 Mbps with my netbook with the A6200 but my built in adapter would download at about 45 mbps. Also, the 45 Mbps download speed is faster with the R6300 router than what I was getting with my old router. I wrote a review of the R6300 here and Netgear engineers got in touch to work on the problem and still are I think. After doing test after test, I have come to the conclusion there is no problem with the A6200 or the R6300 router. I connected the A6200 to my quad core desktop and tried it. The download speed on my desktop was at 80 Mbps which is the same as what I get with the 1 Gbps wired ethernet connection. Conclusion: The problem is with my netbook and the USB connection and probably the speed of my netbook. This A6200 adapter and R6300 router combination is as fast as a wired connection in 5 Ghz AC mode since my desktop did just that. It's not possible to get any faster than the wired ethernet connection as far as I know and matching it with wireless is just incredible.Just think about using this as more drivers come out like when wireless N first came out. The speed is unheard of already. And something to be said about Netgear engineering: They continued to work on this and are still requesting information even though the problem is not with Netgear hardware or software. I think that what's called "above and beyond". Just outstanding.

I recently bought a new computer with Windows 8 and noticed that the internet connection suddenly would not work properly with my old Cisco Linksys WRT110 router, so I ponied-up the dough and bought the Netgear R6300. What an amazing difference! Everything is faster...much faster. Note that my new desktop is wired to the router, so the improved speed there was not surprising (other than there is hardly any noticeable pass-through effect of the router) but my wife's laptop is much faster (even though it is four years old and runs Windows Vista), our iPad is blazing fast (no longer pauses during Netflix playback), and our iPhones are crazy fast. I'm sure much of this is due to the use of the 5GHz frequency in addition to the standard 2.4GHz frequency. But the technology within the device also seems to be improving wireless connection on all fronts. We are also benefiting substantially from the USB control center with its ReadyShare printing capability...my wife can now print wirelessly from her laptop (without the hassle we had with the previous router) and either of us can now print wirelessly from any of our Apple devices since the router functions exactly like Apple/HP's AirPrint concept (our printer is a Canon MP800). Very very pleased with this product (so far). Would recommend to anyone.

I bought the Netgear WNDR3700 when it first came out and that was my router of choice, my recommendation to friends and family until the WNDR4000 hit the shelves. The WNDR3700 was a great router, fast throughput, gigabit connections, really good wifi, etc, etc...but it had one annoying quality, sometimes mine would just cut out. I mean for a few secs up to a minute the wifi would just drop off and everything would be pretty much worthless. This happened infrequently but enough to be an annoyance. So I started looking for something new.The temptation of course when something fails is to look at different brands to see if someone else has something better. I looked and researched and I came close to buying the Linksys E4200 but all the negative reports on it and prior experience led me away from that. I also looked seriously at the ASUS RT-N56U ([...]) but the one drawback I saw with it was the form factor. I like how the Netgear routers stand up but the lean of the ASUS with trying to plug multiple devices in gave me pause. Also I kinda wanted the 450MBps option for future considerations. So back i came to Netgear and boy am I happy. I got the router with my Amazon Prime membership so I only paid 3.99 to get it next day and in 10 minutes I had it set up. To be honest, I have gotten used to the web UI that Netgear uses so I manually set it up and its been flawless since. I run 2 laptops, a Roku, a WD media player, an XBox 360 and out networked LG LED off this (and our two WP7 phones) and have nary an issue! We get much better video performance with Netflix on our XBox than I did before, Im not sure why but before this router we had a lot of quality issues with it.Ive tried to think of a negative and the only one I can come up with, I think is probably pretty general to all of the present generation of routers...with the wireless network modes over 54 MBps you dont seem to be able to run bridges. Maybe that is just something I havent figured out but would be nice if I could still use the bridges I had before at the higher modes. Maybe someone way smarter than me can clue me in on if that is possible.Anyways I am very please and highly recommend this router and Amazon Prime, how else could you get your cake and eat it too...all within a day!Update 05.21.11--I thought I would come back after one month and give an update. I continue to be impressed by this router, it works flawlessly, we press it running a Roku and an XBox with Netflix wirelessly constantly and we never have drops. As you know if you read net chatter, Netflix data packets are quite large and in my opinion if this can handle this itll handle anything. I have to say I love a router that I only have to touch IF Im just in a mood to play with it. It just works...flawlessly.Update 07-22-11--I continue to love this router, although I have come across one area that bugs me, doesnt really cause issues but bugs me. Everytime I test my XBox 360 wireless connection it tells me that there is a NAT configuration problem with my router. Ive tried to read up on this and any fix seems pretty complicated and since it hasnt caused any issues with my XBox connectivity yet I havent messed with it. Otherwise, everything still seems to work great, waiting for newer 5Ghz adapters to come out so I can make my setup a bit more wireless but not the routers issue. I still recommend you buy this wholeheartedly!

I am a big fan of Netgear. I think their products are the easiest to set up and come with the fewest hiccups. I researched long and hard for a good upgrade to my WNDR4500. I thought it would be this R6300 as its advertised coverage seemed better as well as the future speeds capabilities.I set the router up without a hitch. It is as easy as the WNDR4500 as it uses the same interface and has near-identical options. the router served the Internet for browsing and email just fine. However, I use an online game called Call of Duty 4. Whenever I went to use the game, the router would reboot itself! Only after a couple of attempts and reboots, could I access the Internet through the game to play. This never happened with the 4500 and should never be able to happen on any router. I believe there is a serious defect in this router. My tests were using the same computer, operating system, connection type and game. Game works fine with 4500 and reboots with 6300.Support had me try several tweaks to the settings. After a couple of days of these attempts without success, I decided to give up and go back to the 4500. I never had any problems with it and frankly, having tested the 6300, I get no better range than I was getting with the 4500. The 4500 is even $50 cheaper and while not an incentive to swap back, it's certainly helps.

This router is located in one end of my house, and works acceptably well in the other end, which is also one floor up.I always do manual configurations, which is no easier and no more flexible than on other routers. The only bad part is that the 5G almost immediately started getting weaker and flakier, and then it stopped working entirely. Netgear has reasonably responsive support, and eventually remedied the situation.I had already updated the firmware, but after speaking with Netgear support, I learned that updating it from a computer using a wireless connection merely appears to work, but does not actually work. Updating the firmware from a wired connection did indeed get the 5GHz working again. However, potential customers should note that Netgear support explained that the 5GHz will not travel as far as the 2.4 GHz, which explains why I still cannot use it in my office in the opposite end of my house like I can with the 2.4 GHz. That was a lot of trouble for very little gain, but only a small number of people have this problem, so I am increasing my rating from 3 stars to 4.

I've handled dozens of routers over the past years that have been plug and play with no issues what so ever. This is the first router I ever encountered that wouldn't work out of the box.The major issue that I have encountered is out of the box, the router would not connect to the internet. It took a firmware upgrade, and hours of finagling to make the LAN ports finally work. I am still unsure how the issue resolved itself, but all three computers connected via the LAN ports started working. I chalked it up to unexplained user error and left it at that. Now three months later, the same issue has randomly come up again. I've spent a day at it trying to fix it, and I can't even contact Netgear live chat support because my products Serial number is supposedly invalid. When I finally got in touch with Netgear, I was unable to request further technical support as they only offer 90 day technical support on their products which I missed by days.I will be downgrading my router to a "stupid" router, one that works plain and simply and doesn't need any configuration out of the box.

I was looking for a modem/router in one to replace my crappy 2wire that kept dropping connections with my ISP AT&T. After a long research, it apppears that there aren't many good reliable one out there in the market so I settled for this Netgear. It turned out I traded one problem for another. The setup seemed easy and simple at first, but any modification to it is quite a work around. The setup interface is less than friendly and extremely unintuitive. I still haven't figured out how to do many simple things such as setting up a fixed address for a wireless device. Our wireless devices randomly lose connections with the router and require a manual reset to fix. The problem seems to be a conflict of the random IP addresses assigned by the router. However, there seem to be no obvious fix in the setting. All our wired devices are working great, and it's far and above better than a 2Wire modem/router. I'm just hoping for an easier to use modem/router that operates more smoothly.

I bought this awhile ago before I really had any N devices but wanted to be "ready" when I started upgrading and consequently obtained N capabilities. When it comes to the G band, this AP is awesome due to its 7 antennas gets a very large range. So why only 2 stars? Because this is supposed to be a dual-band with N running on the 5Ghz channel. I have it setup, it works for a couple days, but doesn't have that great of a range so I only get half the speed I believe I should get. But it is 5Ghz and it gets affected by objects more so than 2.4Ghz so I'll put up with it, especially since I can still get 2x of what I can with the G band. The problem is that it only works for a couple days and then just disappears and my computer falls back to the G band, even if I specifically delete the G SSID from my computer. So basically I can't use the N band because of this problem. Hence the 2 stars. I just wouldn't recommend getting this AP to anyone because of the N issues. I plan to replace it soon actually as I'm starting to really need good N speeds on my devices and this thing just won't do it.

setup was easyI have noticeably faster browsing sessions, downloads, etc w/ the same internet connect when I replace my DLINK DIR-655 with this Netgear R6300 device.I have considerably better wifi range in my house than I had w/ the DLINK.I originally bought two of these as they are advertised that they can be configured as wireless repeaters. I returned one as I learned that if you want to repeat the 5Ghz 802.11AC signal, then you can only do so WITHOUT wireless security which is completely unacceptable - no one should run a wireless network unless you have at least WEP turned on, preferably WPA. I chatted w/ tech support and they said that if I forced the speed down to 54Mbps then I could turn on WEP (not WPA) but what is the point of having 802.11AC if you are slowing it down to below 802.11N speeds?Again, I really like the unit I kept that I am using as a normal 802.11AC access point, the only reason I am giving 4 star vs 5 star is that I would have like to have used the other unit as a *real* 802.11AC repeater at full speed with security.

I had an Asus RT-N56U for several months before this router and liked it OK, but the ASUS had issues w/it not allowing all of my airprint enabled printers to appear as available printers on an iPad and iPhone.Switched to this router and all of the airprint printers now appear w/out issue. These are HP printers that natively support airprint, I'm not using the additional software that enables printers that don't support airprint. Also, the Netgear has the best 5G signal of any router I have tried in the past several years...(and I've tried a lot from Netgear, Asus, TrendNet, Cisco, etc.) The 5G signal reaches throughout the house (single story ranch, router position is biased towards one end of the house) with a good signal. It's kinda huge, but I like the idea that the size/shape will help it dissipate heat better than other routers, and it does look nice overall.Setup was easy and will be for anyone who has set up a router before. I did it all manually. The Netgear also resolved an issue I had w/the RT-N56U, which would not allow forwarding ranges of ports - it would let you input the port range but not forward it properly. The Netgear works perfectly for that.Don't really have a reason to not give it five stars, other than I've only had it for a couple of weeks and need to spend more time with it to confirm that it has staying power...

I bought this router in nov of 2012 and now I am out of tech support via phone as netgear only provides 90 days of phone support.I was getting slow wireless speed and I tried different wireless adapter on laptop to increase as I thought it might be my laptop but speed didn't go up. It stayed around 2MBps (16-20Mbps) on 2.4 GHz with settings of 480Mbps. I contacted netgear via chat and this what tech rep told me "We are currently investigating why setting the 5GHz to 1300Mbps affects the 2.4GHz speed.", so beware until new firmware comes out you will need to keep your 5Ghz settings to lesser than 1300Mbps or look for alternate routers. After changing setting as recommended, now I am getting 6=7MBps (48-56Mbps), but still not more than that even when using 300Mbps wireless adapter, and I may be sitting 20 ft from router. To me seems like waste of money. I am going to contact netgear in few days and see if I can return this router.
