I have used them a few times already, and I learn more with each use. I love the idea of the range and its extra goodies that come with the radio's. Not only are they cool looking, but compact and very reliable. I gave my wife one to use, and she drove several miles away, (testing it's range) and she came in clear as day. Then I went even further around 11 miles, and with very minimal obsticles in the way, and still heard each other! I was very impressed and happy with the radio's. We are going to use them camping and in servival situations. I would recommend this radio set big time!!!

I purchased this a few months ago as a recommendation for a cruise to the Bahamas. Although I can't speak to the "36-mile" claim, I do know that radio transmissions can be affected by several man-made and natural environmental conditions. But with our cabin on the first deck of the Carnival "Glory" and my early morning jaunt on the top deck, I was surprised that we were able to communicate with limited interference.
I'm currently part of a volunteer flood watch with Hurricane Sandy on the Virginia coast and my neighbor who is about a mile down the road is using the same set. We are communicating without any difficulty. Granted he is a few feet about sea level, and I'm a few feet higher than him but there are several houses and trees that could potentially degrade transmission but so far, no problems. Battery life is adequate and I've been outside in the wind and rain and they're resisting the occasional spray of rain.
As with many of my feedback ratings, I will continue to update and revise as necessary based on my usage so stay tuned.

Have used the two-way radios once on a trip and they performed very well between two vehicles. I have not tested them to they're maximum range yet, but I am well satisfied especially knowing they have NOAA weather alert channels incorporated into them. Thanks

While the Midland GXT1000VP4 package is priced well for all you get, be aware that the headphone/mic accessory units are difficult to keep securely in position via being clipped to your ear. The mic needs to be directly in front of your mouth and the plastic earclip does not secure it well and the length of the mic support piece is a bit short. Another item to be aware of is that a full charge lasts only about three hours from our experience so far.
I bought these to use when my wife and I ride bicycles because it is so difficult to talk or hear each other when not side-by-side. The range seems to be fair, but is absolutely nowhere NEAR 36 miles, unless we are just not using them correctly. We have difficulty if we are not IN SIGHT of each other. They were wonderful when they worked, particularly in VOX mode, which voice-activates them. (This frees your hands entirely but requires practice to not talk-over each other. Extraneous noises also can activate the VOX and make you think the other person tried to say something when they did not.)
So if we can obtain some solid earpiece/mic accessories for these to work to our satisfaction AND buy a spare battery pack for each radio to take along for long rides, these will work nicely. I wonder though if spending more initially for something heavier-duty might have taken care the issues and saved the additional expense.

We have both the black set and the camo set of these. We have no problems with the black set. One of the camo often stops working until you take the battery out and put it back in. Usually it works at that time. Don't know why.
Otherwise, we love these radios! We use them around our neighborhood to be able to communicate with our kids when they're off playing. They endure the small falls (with scuffs) of course, but work perfectly for what we wanted them for. I am constantly recommending them to friends.

The coolest thing about these radios are that they are camo. I was on 81 south boudnd coming out of WV with one and my buddy was going in the same direction with the other and was less than a mile ahead of me and I couldn't here him. I have a Motorola TalkAbout, it only has a range of like 10 miles and I get way better signal than I did with these. So needless to say I took them back and got my money back. Don't waste your money

USed these on a moose hunt and had no issues. Range was about 5km in the area that we hunt with lots of tree cover, hills, etc.

these quit working only a few months after I bought them. The 2 radio wont even communicate with each other. They are junk.

They work, they preform a function but they don't excel at it. They have a cheap feel to them, antenna is just a coiled wire inside a tube and can not be removed or replaced. They pick up a lot of static when receiving even at short range. Battery is good, lasts a decent amount of time, functions are great. I haven't tested the range on the extreme end but good for car to car going down the highway with decent distance between. Headsets are cheap too, if you intend on moving/running around they won't stay put. In short good for the price point but leaves me wanting more

These radios are working great for me.
I live in pretty hilly country, so I knew there was no way I'd get the advertised range simply due to obstructions. However, the sound quality is great, they are compact and seem to be pretty durable.
We use them when hunting, so they get clipped on a belt and dragged up a tree - no damage so far and we've had them for about 8 months.
The charge seems to hold well. I wasn't sure if this type of battery would develop a 'memory' so we've been letting them completely drain before re-charging. Even doing that, only once have I picked up the radio and found the battery drained - and that was after a period when the radios were not used for some time.
Overall, I've found this a great product for the price.

These worked great. Had great range and battery life. They also don't feel like a cheap radio which makes them feel like they will have great durability, only time will tell on durability but my expectations are high.

we use the radio often, mostly outdoors, no problems yet, range is as expected for this type of radio, got about 1/2 mile range in the city, 1 1/2 mile in a forest w/ hills & valley, not yet tried over water or wide open spaces . Don't expect the moon, it is not a $200 a piece radio, granted those should not be advertised with such a long range, maybe they do get 10 mile from mountain top to mountain top on a clear windless day : ) ,but to keep in touch with the family at the park, go hunting , hiking, or work outdoors, in that price range, you cant beat it.

radio works well, however there are so many options and setting it will give you a headache trying to figure them out. the vox waits a little too long before it stops transmitting and the headset could be louder. I wouldnt reccomend them for use on a motorcycle at highway speeds but work well at lower speeds like you might expect on a 4 wheeler

We purchased this for our move from northern Michigan to Florida. One radio was used in the moving truck we rented, the other was used in the car that followed. We had great reception for the entire trip. We carry these now whenever we go on golf-cart trips...and since we only have one cellphone, we've even taken them into Walmart. For the price, the radios are simple to use...

Midland, was at one time the best however the two way 36 mile radios, I purchased were disappointing. I purchased the Midlands to replace the 14 mile range two way radios I bought from another company that were getting old. The Midlands have the same range as the old 16 mile despite having a greater advertised range 36 miles, they do have more options but not worth the money for my use, If you want a larger range.

I have 4 different 2way radios and the Midland GXT is the best. The quality, build and performance are all top notch. The range is better than the others and best of all, the battery life is better than the others. If I buy another one for a hunting buddy, it will be this one in this price range..

I highly recommend these walkies-talkies over any other brand. A few years ago I purchased what I considered the top brand of wireless communication and walkies-talkies to solve the problem of communicating with my video crew during live event video production. I needed a walkies-talkie that I could use with in-ear buds or some type of headset for live event videography; mainly weddings and corporate events. The problem was that the walkies-talkies worked perfect as just walkies-talkies but the second I added the ear-buds or headsets they had all kinds of issues. I could not use the units as walkies-talkies during a wedding, that would be too distracting. After weeks of trying to get the units working correctly I figured if the good brand had these issues than the other companies probably did to and I decided to not purchase another set and move on until, at a recent event I saw a photographer using the Midland brand with the in-ear transparent security headsets. I asked him how well they worked and he raved about them. So I ordered these and I have not had a single issue. They work perfectly. DO NOT purchase any other brand. The midland work perfectly with transparent security headsets.

We use these for our church greeters and they work great. We had older Midland Radios that worked on AA batteries and were OK, but these are really good. They help us keep in touch with our cart drivers and one another. We now have 5 sets of these .
