So far so good - very compact and sturdy drive and at a reasonable price...only complaint (so far) is that I had to delete, recreate the partition and format in NTFS - the preinstalled software is basically useless.Would highly recommend - am thinking of getting another.

Just hooked this up to my new MacBook Air, and it works brilliantly. Obviously no USB3 speeds to test though (thanks for that, Apple) but I guess this does show that it works great with USB2 and transfers as fast as I'd expect it to. The look is great..clean, portable, and minimalist. The one issue I did encounter was that the drive's (presumably) formatting program that comes preinstalled on it is PowerPC only. For those of you who have OS X Lion, you won't be able to run it. So, for people who aren't familiar enough with Disk Utility to format the drive to HFS+ for use with Lion, it might not be the best choice, because otherwise it's a useless chunk of aluminum with bloatware preloaded. That being said, once I formatted the drive it worked perfectly.

When I received the LaCie drive I was unable to use it with my Mac mini using Lion. I have been trying to return the drive to the company and as of this note, I have been unable to, due to their refusal to take any action. If for ant reason you are not sure what you are doing DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THEM.

If u have lion, it is not compatible. it stinks when the description has that it is compatible with macs when it isnt with all macs. It is quite misleading

This Thunderbolt drive has exceeded all my expectations. The transfer speeds are really good. The drive is perfect for working with large media content. It's excellent for travel too. Doesn't take much space, is pretty compact and very sturdy. I'm impressed!

It's a great Item, easy to use no problem at all. I work in a Macbook and the speed of the LaCie rugged are fast even with port USB 3.0 cable (USB 2.0-compatible)

The hard disk is light and small but well finished and feels good quality. It comes with an utility to set it up out of the box, it will automatically detect if you are using Windows or Mac OSX. I tested it also in Linux without any problem. The power consumption seems very low, as it works with a netbook I have, that didn't deliver enough power for other drives before. The cons could be, if you're fuzzy with the mini USB connector being on the side of the drive, instead of on the back.The capacity is not astonishing for nowadays numbers, but the ratio Gb/$ is one of the bests. I was thinking in buying the USB 3.0 (backwards compatible with USB 2.0) but saw some reviews telling about the need for an "Y" cable to feed the new power requirements. I also thought that, when the time comes that I will have a laptop with USB 3.0 ports,... I'll just buy a new bigger faster and probably cheaper USB 3.0 (or even upcoming wireless USB) hard disk.

I bought this product in June 2011 so my boss could work while she's traveling. It is now Nov 07, 2011 and the product died over the weekend. We worked at a major University, so we had our IT people look it over. Needless to say, they said "there's no hope for it. Get a new one - of a different brand!" They have had other dealings with products from this company.I had planned on getting one for myself but not now.

Once again LaCie have produced an excellent drive. Rugged and versatile. I am a bit disappointed in the USB 3 speed, but the drive itself is a good one.

After searching for a new passport to replace my broken Western Digital, click of death, I stumbled across the Lacie lineup of portable hard drives. My search criteria for a new passport were: silver/white color, 1 tb of storage, design, and price.Color: Since it's a portable hard drive, I like it to match my MacBook. I'm not a really big fan of the colorful options such as pink or blue and black clashes with my white MacBook :DStorage: I need 1 tb of storage because I do a lot of photo editing for a small studio and the files eat up a lot of space quick! I also do a little home video editing, so that takes even more space.Design: I need a compact, contemporary portable hard drive. The design of the Lacie Rikiki GO is very neat. Aluminum casing will ensure that the case doesn't break like my plastic Western Digital. It had small, chipped off pieces on the corners and cracks. The unique design of the usb cable is attached to the side of the portable hard drive. It's a neat feature that makes carrying the Lacie Rikiki GO drive less of a hassle. Some may find this design a disadvantage, but worry not! The usb cable can be detached, it is just a short mini usb to usb cable. So a longer cable may be an option.Price: For the storage capacity, I found that the price was very reasonable taking into consideration of what I was searching for in a portable hard drive.The Lacie Rikiki GO also comes with 10 gb of internet storage with Wuala, which means accessibility to and sharing of your files from practically anywhere. The drive is compatible with both Windows and Mac OSs. On first start-up, on my Mac, the drive launched its software to easily format the drive to my desired requirement. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase.

Using as the "Time Machine" for my Mac. Have been using another brand, but it was difficult to be recognized by the new Mac - gave up and purchased two LaCies for my two iMacs. Plugged them in and they started off on the first try, no problems,

I've had several LaCie 'big disk' drives and have had very good service from all of them. The one failure I had was nothing I can blame LaCie for, and they replaced it promptly with a new drive. They even sent a shipping carton... tested the device, found it to be truly busted, and sent me a new one. This refers to the early, but similar-looking BigDisk series.I've used my 2Tb Quadra drive since September and it's NEVER put a byte wrong. It could explode tomorrow, but like all drives your data's only as safe as the most recent backup.These cases are very well-built, they feel hefty and solid, look great and again, so far, so good.I've had other LaCie drives, notably a sleek-looking Porsche-design unit, that were complete junk, a nice enclosure and perfectly fine disk drive let down by a badly-designed firewire controller. I pulled the disk out and installed it into an old tower, where it's still working fine.It's important to research the individual models from ANY manufacturer! I've determined that the BigDisk and this similar-looking Quadra series are well-made, very cost-effective, and reasonably well-performing drives.BUT IF YOU DON'T BACK UP YOUR DATA, YOU HAVE NOBODY TO BLAME BUT YOURSELF!

Mine stopped working within a month. Maybe I was lucky until then but no hard drive ever failed on me, even those bought 6 years ago. Won't buy from Lacie again.

I bought the lacie 2TB HD to use with time machine on my mac for backup. I had also ordered firewire cables from lacie on another site, Turned out i didnt need them. When i opened the box, I found USE, eSATA, and firewire cables for the drive to connect it any way possible!installation was as simple as plugging in two wires (power, and firewire) then turning it on. my iMAC had an issue with the drive when i tried to auto-install it for use with time machine, but after re-formatting the drive manually with two clicks of the mouse, it was up and running and took a few minutes to back up my entire computer (it was about 68Gb, almost 2 hours by firewire, but eSATA cables would have done it in half that, maybe less. my mac lacked that option)overall i highly recommend this HD over paying $50 more for half the storage when you get apples "time capsule"plus, the lacie just looks badass.
