These headphones take a little time to get set up. You have to charge the headphones, and pick the ear pieces that fit your ears, then it takes a few minutes to get them set up to custom fit your ears. But once it's set up they are very easy to put in and stay in. Pairing it with my iphone was super easy. I am having a little trouble figuring out how to stop using them and get the sound back on my iphone though. But that is my inexperience I think, not the fault of the headphones.
I would recommend these to anyone looking for good quality headphones that don't fall out of your ears and are super comfortable.
However there's one major flaw which made me just return this product. That is it uses Bluetooth 2.1 there for any other device you may have for example a smart watch or an activity band will run interference with the speed. Since most new phones ship with Bluetooth 4.0 or 4.1 with BLE. It becomes almost uses less with your phone if you are using any of the items that I mentioned above.
Jaybird confirms this too. When I called their customer service they asked me to unpair all of my other Bluetooth device and use this. And personally I don't see that as a solution. If you are okay with it go for this one. Like I said it's one of the best if not the best there is except for this one major flaw.
So, you get to the headphones and you're like YES THESE WILL BE AMAZING. And then you get them synced to your phone and... hmm. I foudn that they did not stay connected all that well? I had a fair amount of skips and disconnects -- way more than my very basic Jabra earpiece. (Granted, different use case scenarios, but the bluetooth connectivity should be the same.
Sound quality was ok, although I echo what other reviewers have noted which is that they just don't get that loud. I also had issues when trying to switch between music and incoming phone calls, although I'm willing to say maybe that was my phone and not the headphones.
Ultimately, these are good headphones that are priced and packaged to make you think they're great. I don't think the value is there for those considering paying full price.
It comes with small, medium and large size earpads and a curved plastic piece to fit in the curve of your ear.
You can also put the cords over your ear for more stability.
These stick out of the ear a bit and the fluorescent green color isn't as cool as the beats colors. Conversely, the beats are less comfortable to wear with glasses and sunglasses.
Sound quality: 8 out of 10. Sounds clean and crisp. Spoken word sounds great. Sound quality is good at low volume and high volume. Bass is not great. No sound drop outs.
Bluetooth: Connects easily and pairs instantly with the iphone 6 and the Ipad mini 2 and with my two cars.
Looks: neon green. not the greatest. Beats looks better.
If you found this review helpful please give it a thumbs up below. Thanks!!!!!
-very sleek, streamlined, all business kind of style and look
-nifty charging port
-easy to use the volume/voice call control
-comes with the Comply tips which do wonders. Went running and did several heavy workouts that my previous corded earphones would simply not stay put with or would get tangled...had no issues with these. it was almost phantom-like how I kept "avoiding" the cord via muscle memory.
-good quality sound for being so small
-once it syncs and remembers your devices, switching from them is very easy. makes going from laptop work/listening to walking around with phone nearly seamless. (I use iphone6 and macbook pro retina 2015)
cons:
-sound could still be a little better
-not very bass heavy
-not sure that the batter actually lasts 8 hours...I've had them 2 days and going on my third charge now..and I haven't been using them that much.
Included are three sizes each of silicone and memory foam tips for the earbuds. The fit is good for me with the medium foam tips. They stay in fine even without securing the wire, though you get a lot less noise if you use the included clips to keep it from flopping around.
The sound is good, though not special. Not a lot of bass, but it sounds natural. They're not noise-canceling, so you can hear what goes on around you.
These are designed for use close to a portable player. They're not so great for use in a gym or workout space where you leave the player away from your body. The range is the same as other ordinary Bluetooth devices, about 30 feet, but if I get more than a few feet from the player and turn the wrong way mine sometimes cut out.
Batteries work fine, last for many hours. Takes an hour for most charges, no more than a couple so far.
Pairing is easy, operation could hardly be simpler.
The manual isn't printed, it's online.
I am constantly doing different workouts and do triathlons as well. I can leave my phone in my bag at the Gym, walk all over the gym to different workout stations and stay connected. And I don't have to worry where I hold my phone on my runs and bike rides. I will never go back to a wired set. And I can't imagine another brand getting close to what Jaybird has got with these. They sound amazing, great base, clarity and fit are latterly perfect; they never fall out, no matter what I do. They connect every time to my iPhone bluetooth and take calls great as well. They also block out sound as well and on some flights I will leave them in without music just to block out some of the noise to sleep.
Over all I recommend them to everyone I know. Love these headphones
I've owned 3 pairs in total. My first pair I lost, my second one got some sweat damage after a little over a year. BUT! I talked to their customer support, they asked me to send a couple pictures to eliminate the need to send the product back and wait months for inspection and sending new ones, and I got a new pair in under a week. INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING FROM A CUSTOMER SUPPORT CLAIM IN UNDER A FREAKING WEEK. Speechless.
The headphones hold an 8 hour charge, fit snugly, and I always have them behind the neck and they never adjust unless I adjust them. Working out, on the commute, they are loud enough to drown out any noise so you can listen and not be bothered by outside noise.
Jaybird, you've impressed me. Customer fo life!
First, they are way way over priced. If you want a set of bluetooth headphone that are okay but cost about $100 more than they should, then buy these.
Next, the sound is just mediocre. I don't understand the rave reviews about how great these sound, they really don't sound that good. I guess after you spend almost $200 on something you expect them to sound great so people want to justify their purchase and convince themselves they sound amazing. Again, just they sound okay.
And, if you have smaller ears they simply will not stay in, trust me, I tried. YMMV.
Bottom line, overpriced, mediocre pair of bluetooth earbuds. Nothing more, nothing less....period.
Would be great if they had a plug in connector so you could continue to use when battery does die (X3 perhaps Jaybird?) mibor issues aside I love these headphones!
So if you run or bike and you do either for longer than 10 to 20 minutes I would not recommend. I do agree with many of the reviewers here, the maximum volume is a bit low regardless of how perfect the fit, and while not performance related, you end up looking like Frankenstein with those ear buds sticking out of your head so far.
Amazon took care of me and sent a new headset that was delivered "next day." UNFORTUNATELY, the new headset did not include ANY medium silicone ear tips. The second set includes 4 small silicone ear tips. This is mind boggling. Does anyone use the silicone ear tips? How could two random samples not have what is supposed to be included?! This is a quality control issue, and Jaybird does not seem to care about my situation, as they have yet to respond to my inquiry. What type of service do you think they will give you should you have to send your head set in for warrantee issues?
Original Review (September 6, 2015)
Received these the first day they were available and noticed that my package did not have 2 of the medium silicon ear sleeves. Only one (1)medium silicon sleeve was included and three (3) small silicon sleeves. I am dreading having to send these back. I hate when I have to test a product's customer service the FIRST day. Needless to say, these headphones sound terrible, probably because I cannot get a good fit after having to use two different size sleeves.
Here are the improvements I've noticed so far:
- Better Fit: They are more comfortable than the BlueBuds X and stay in my ears better
- Sound quality: because of the better fit the sound seems improved
- Volume control: No longer interrupts the music with a "beep" sound when turned up and down
- Battery: I've kept track of my time and they have been regularly lasting 8 hours or more (My BlueBuds X only occasionally lasted 8 hours)
- Case: Comes with a cool case that I will actually use to keep them protected
I highly recommend these to anyone thinking of making the switch from wired to wireless.
They have four major winning points going for them for working out too.
1) They stay in your ears. Headphones literally never stay in my ears. IMO you don't need the fins if you use the comply foam buds.
2) Sweatproof is legit. I've run mine through the washing machine and they still worked.
3) Sound quality is really great, even on a windy bike ride.
4) They charge fast, and if I remember to turn them off, they last me nearly a week of workouts.
I haven't had an issue with mine, but I know from my experience with a different Jaybird product in the past that their customer service is insanely responsive, so I feel like anything from them is a safe buy.
My husband and I had been sharing set after set of wireless headphones for quite a while. He used them for running and I used them for working out at the gym (they scream: "Don't talk to me!"). He is convinced I ruined them all from wearing them with wet hair after I got out of the pool. Maybe I did. Yeah, I probably did. With these headphones, however, there have been no problems with sweat OR wet hair. I often use them for audiobooks and have caught on quite quickly to pausing, rewinding, and stopping. They fit quite well in my odd ear opening too. I have no discomfort even after a couple hours. I don't know that I notice the superior sound quality that a lot of people would appreciate, but I am convinced they will last a lot longer due to be relatively waterproof. And that's more than enough for me. I was tired of spending $40 to $50 every six months or so for decent headphones only to have them fizzle out.
One star I left bcaz one can improve like sound quality, it's material quality, etc even though whatever it is right now is not having any problem. One suggestion, I use to keep X and ear tips in a same box as its handy but box size is such small that to keep them is little tricky. I have to make round of X and then adjust ear tips. So it will be great if comeup with some design which can accommodate both.
Thanks for a great product.
Personally, I also had an issue with the fit. Mine didn't come with the conical shaped rubber ear buds that are featured in their pictures. Mine only came with different sizes of the standard round ear buds and they really don't do a great job of staying put during a workout. I used a set from a pair of Beats headphones but they aren't a very precise fit to the Jaybird set.
I used the little (honeycomb looking) rubber snap on pieces but they didn't do the trick either.
I'd say these would be fine if you're not using them while active but honestly..at that point, I wouldn't see the purpose considering how much better a cheap, corded set sounds.
The mic seems to work fine and although the little buttons are kind of inconvenient, they get the job done.
All in all, they were cool but after a couple months, they sit in my drawer and I use better ones.
For unknown reasons my set quit working after about 15 months of heavy use at the gym in a sweaty environment. I reviewed my warranty and found that's it had expired. Not having the extra cash to fork out for another pair of expensive headgear I instead called customer service to see if there was a fix.
Without even asking for an explanation my rep told me to box mine up, affix the shipping label he'd email me, obtain a tracking number, call him back and he'd ship me a new set. I did as directed and 3 days later I had a brand new set, as promised, even though I was out of warranty. It doesn't get any better than that.
In today's world where customer service is generally like going to the dentist this experience was like a cold beer and a cigar. My thanks to Jaybird.
I didn’t think I would have a great use for Bluetooth headphones, but these have become my favorite way to listen to music or my favorite podcast. I have a pretty sizable backyard and I love being able to leave my phone on the table plugged in while I’m doing yard work and still have the ability to take a call with the remote. I love not having to worry about dropping my phone and running over it with my lawnmower or into the dirt.
Also, I can’t speak more highly of the sound quality. I love that they drown out the hum of the lawnmower even when listening to podcasts.
They are highly recommended.
Packaging is ridiculously nice, and the case for the earbuds is one of the best I've seen. The earbuds themselves seem solidly built, with foam and rubber eartips included. The fit is pretty solid, though it took me a while to figure out how to get the earbud ear wings to fit properly.
In terms of sound quality, these are probably a 7/10 for earbuds, but a 10/10 for BLUETOOTH earbuds. The sound is extremely balanced, though I could use a bit more bass (this is my biggest complaint). The highs are clear with little distortion and the mids are full.
If you're looking for a nice set of wireless earbuds, I'd say pull the trigger on this one.
The volume is a JOKE! Top volume is about three or four clicks away from what I'd expect. They're ok for easy listening but when your jam comes on, these just don't cut it. The bass response is far below my $35 Sennheiser 685i.
I also got tons of cut outs when cycling home on a fresh battery.. I thought it was from the motion but then I got the same cut outs when mowing the lawn. Not reassuring, but due to the sound quality I'm not going to even try another pair.
I just don't have any idea how these headphones justify their price tag. A friend of mine has a $20 version of these that I found interesting so I figured I'd buy a "good" version. Turns out the $20 version is 98% of the sound quality at 1/9th of the price. I might get the $20 version because for biking home and phone calls the concept is good, but if you care about music quality I'd stay away.
I have had the jaybird X headphones for 3 years now and I absolutely love them! They still work 100% and hold a good 6 hr charge.
So when jaybird released the X2's I was willing to give them a try even though my current jaybird X headphones still work.
The major noticeable change the X2 headphones have is the ear phones are more rigid then the fins on the X. Also the X2 headphones have a notch to keep the fins in place when the X headphones did not. This is a very nice addition so the fins are no longer sliding around while working out.
I would recommend these headphones!
But if you want to save some money......
Amazon has the jaybird X headphones for $90-$138 (depending on color)
And you can buy the comply tips for $15-$20.
(Comply tips are NOT needed)
If you want to save some money buy the jaybird X headphones for half the price ($90 vs $180) and you won't notice a difference really.
First the good. These are the best headphones I've ever worn. I've tried many different types and hands down for general use, athletics and on a plane they are the best. You want to make them even better buy the comply foam tips.
Now the bad. I have had no fewer than 8 pairs of these things. They seem to last 2-4 months of daily use and then they die. You might be asking why if they fail so often do you keep going back. Simply put, they have the best customer service hands down, bar none. I've bought 1 pair and each time they break a different amazing customer service rep rushes me out a new pair no questions asked. If I were to ask one thing of the company, please try to make a better longer lasting product, I certainly don't want them going out of business because they are replacing too many of their headsets.
I use them while running, working out, and mostly while washing dishes and watching NetFlix on my phone :)
My only complaint in the past was proprietary charging cables, but even that has changed now so it's nice to be able to plug my headphones in at work, home, or in the car without having to carry the cable around with me.
1) The low battery warning comes about 45 minutes before the battery dies. If you hear it at the start of your workout, too late! You have to get in a routine where you are charging it before the warning comes.
2) The fins are required to keep the headphones at exactly the right spot. If you don't have a perfect fin and earbud fit, the bud can slip either in or out a millimeter and ruin the seal and sound. It's not very forgiving, compared to Shure or other in-ear headphones.
Still my go-to workout headphones, but I have to admit that I don't wear them outside of lifting & cardio, due to the need for a fit that's tight enough to be fine while lifting, but not something you'd want to wear at the office / home / while communting.
PROS: Lots of fitting options. Good sound for Bluetooth. Two wearing options (In-ear and above ear). Duel duty as a wireless headset. Appears to be a quality built product (time will tell). Did I say "Lots of fitting options"!! Amazing battery life.
CONS: I think most of these are a problem with my LG G4 blue tooth and not the Jaybirds: Occasional echo when talking. Un-pairs from my LG G4 occasionally when I get a text message. Initially putting them on takes some fiddling.
I was initially disappointed with the music quality, but after some research discovered that having a GOOD music player on my Android device would improve the quality. I really enjoy the music quality now, especially since I've upgraded the software on my LG G4.
Good headphones. Time will tell.
Once I saw Jaybird upgraded them I had to check em out. I really like the color options and the matte finish but the biggest change for me were the new comply sport tips. They're an amazing upgrade from the X's and come standard in addition to the silicone tips in the X2's.
Super comfortable, great battery, great Bluetooth distance, great headphones. Woulda put them at 4.5 if that were an option cause I'd really like to see a waterproof version. But these are the best in ear headphones I've owned.
(I got them at a sporting event where Jaybird had a booth and was selling them for $20 less than retail)
The good:
- Stays in your ears during most workouts. The 'wings' actually do work. And since they're bluetooth there aren't wires going all over the place.
- Worked great on a plane, almost as good as my audia-technica noise cancelling headphones
The Bad:
- Bass is not great. Not bad either, but was hoping for a bit more.
- Battery life is short. Plan on plugging them in after a workout/trip. Probably would not last through a 3+ hour flight. Given the battery has to be super small to fit in the things, this isn't surprising but be aware of it.
- You have to go online to get the instructions. The instructions in the box are an exercise in minimalism.
MY COMPLAINT-
When the battery gets low, they start to BEEP EVERY 20 SECONDS FOR THE LAST 20 MINUTE OF BATTERY LIFE!
Who's idea was that?
That was very nice of them to replace my old ones with a new pair of better ones, but the new ones do it too!!
I hate it... once they get low battery, they start beeping and that may last for 20 minutes before they actually die.
That means that while I'm running or whatever, I know that my battery is low, but I can't enjoy that last 20 minutes of music because of the beeping! I don't need to be "ALERTED" that my batter is low at all. I will figure it out when the music stops! Besides, there is no way to re-charge them when I am running anyway, so just let me enjoy the music in peace!!
- Bluetooth connection is strong.
- The headphones are definitely comfortable.
- The sound. It won't blow you away but they certainly sound good. Do you care about bass? It's there but don't expect your teeth to rattle. No distortion at high volume!
- Battery life. You can run them almost all day. They claim eight hours. I went beyond that on a day that I was doing yardwork. My phone died first. Very impressive!
The Bad -
- The case. Garbage. You won't use it just because opening and closing it is such a pain.
- The documentation. You get a tiny card with three tiny pictures on it that explain almost nothing. It's so bad you can't help but laugh. Full documentation is online.
There are a few items that can be improved but these still smoke my cheap MPOW headphones that I was using before. They're a little on the pricey side but they deliver a great experience once you learn how to use them.
These headphones sound flat, lack volume and simply provide a mediocre listening experience.
They can be a little bothersome on the ears for long periods as they are pretty big.
They do serve a purpose, I use them for working out (depends on what I'm training that day). If you're doing arms, back and chest (your arms moving around and the dangling cable can become a nuisance) this work perfect.
For legs, and cardio I still prefer corded headphones.
This kind of technology will only get better... But right now these suffer all the early adopters problems... You're overpaying for a new technology that can still be beat by its traditional counter part (corded headphones) for a fraction of the cost. Any 150$ corded headset will sound better than this. Simple as that.
I owned the previous BlueBuds X for two years and loved them. This improves on the origibal in several important ways: the texture on the outside of the headphones is very important to keeping the ear flanges in place which keeps the headphones in place even when you are sweating a lot. This is a huge deal to me.
The wireless reception is noticeably improved. It was the best I'd seen on the BlueBuds X, and these are even better. The sound is also a little bit better. I loved the sound on the previous model and this is an improvement.
They seemed stiff out of the box but use has made them feel great and supple just like my BlueBuds X.
These and the original BlueBuds X are the only Bluetooth headphones that I can personally recommend to anyone. And I've tried a LOT.
