I got tired of hearing my hard drive chattering as the PC booted up, and then waiting for all the background processes to load/complete before I could actually start USING the machine, so I thought I would try one of these SSDs. The performance increase is incredible -- even more than I hoped for. Windows boots and is ready to go in 30 seconds; PhotoShop CS 5 launches in about 5 seconds. I'm no longer waiting for anything and it's completely silent (no chatter). Fantastic! Running Windows XP on a Dell Quad-Core machine.The Intel migration software is simple and does the job -- no problems at all. The whole process from start to finish took about 90 minutes. That includes the time I spent opening the box! There was a rebate at the time I bought this, and I think I spent more time filling out those forms than I did installing the drive.The only bad thing is that I am now spoiled. I never want to use a spinning hard drive again!

Just screw it in, plug in the sata cables and you are running. Be sure to initialize the drive. I did a fresh OS install on my drive so I cannot attest to intel's file transfer wizard. This thing boots fast and shuts down fast. Before now the loudest thing is my system was the hard drive. Now my rig is practically silent. This SSD has excellent I/O speeds, and is backed by a name you can trust.Current Setup:Intel DZ68BC MoboCore i7-2600k processor16gb Kingston KHX1600C9D3 RAMCorsair HX750 PSUTwo WD 640GB Hard drives in RAID 1Intel 520 Series 120 GB SSD

I bought this to be a rock solid system drive that would never fail in 1,000 years. Wow, was I misguided about that! Not only did it fail, it failed less than two weeks after I installed it and about two hours before I left for vacation. I replaced it with an OCZ Agility 3 SSD so I could get back up and running, then started researching the problem with the Intel 320. It turns out that Intel admits there is a firmware issue causing large numbers of 320 SSDs to fail and has released a firmware fix. Meanwhile, the replacement OCZ SSD started bluescreening my machine about once per day (apparently also a well-known problem according to OCZ's forums)! On top of all that, I'm now seeing lots of reports that Intel's firmware fix doesn't actually fix anything. So, after reinstalling Windows three times (with at least one more on the way), I think I'm heading back to traditional HD's until SSD's begin demonstrating some reliability...Update 12/15/2011After performing the firmware update, this SSD is now rock solid. My system runs for weeks at a time with no problem. I'm increasing my rating from one star to three stars because, even though it's now rock solid, Intel's poor QA on the product's initial release caused me a massive headache.

I have had this drive for almost 30days and no issues (knock on wood). Getting good read/write speeds. i tried to see any reviews and no one had posted any to get a review, i am using this on a HP DV-7 3165 and i have reloaded windows and installed all my applications that i wanted, i didn't clone my drive b/c i wanted a fresh install anyway, after everything installed boot time came to be about 23 seconds from the boot logo to desktop load. it beats over 2min from a 7200rpm HDD. I love it so far especailly with the deal for getting it for 199.99 then an 80.00 mail-in rebate, so for 119.99 for a 120GB SSD, you cannot beat that right now. I purchased my HP DV8t notebook in 2009 and I found that the boot time and application performance were not as zippy as I remembered. So I decided to upgrade the computer for speed and I selected the Intel 320 series 120GB SSD drive.Pros: Boot time now less then 30 seconds. Apps snap open.Includes: USB 3 to SATA cable to make data swapping easy. Protective silicone cover for old drive. SATA Cable and 2.5 to 3.5 inch drive adapter (for desktop use). Also includes the Intel SSD sticker (for sticker fans).Cons: None at first (see other thoughts).Other thoughts: I was using my first Intel 320 Series 120GB SSD drive for about 2 months and Windows 7 started throwing random errors and after a BSOD and reboot Windows said I no longer had a boot drive. As it turns out, Intel has a firmware patch that needs to be applied to the first batch of these drives or the drive can become a brick. Intel exchanged the drive and the new drive has been flawless for another month.

I have this SSD about 1 month and have no problems with the speeds everything works beautifully! After Corsair NOVA 2 SSD i saw a huge difference in speeds and have no lag. I have no Sata III interface so it works on sata II on full speed! From cold start Windows 7 takes about 20 seconds and shut down is about 5 seconds. INTEL is the brand which you can really trust and I was convinced.

Shortly after I purchased this drive from Amazon (160GB version), I started seeing threads about the dreaded 8MB failures. I was really concerned and cautiously backed up all my files....but it's been months and months since I bought this drive. It's performed perfectly and it has the same firmware as the other drives that have failed.Looking through all the one-star reviews for this product, I noticed a trend: Most of these people report using Windows, and Windows 7 at that. That makes me wonder if the firmware error has something to do with Windows specifically. Maybe it even has something to do with NTFS (though I actually run a Windows 7 NTFS partition on my drive for Bootcamp and I haven't seen any issues).Have any MacBook Pro owners experienced the same failures as the Windows PC users? I use the early 2011 Thunderbolt 17" MBP running Lion and haven't experienced any issues. Maybe I'm lucky, or maybe the drive failures are catalyzed by external influences (SATA controllers, OS, file systems, etc).I would recommend this drive for the same system as mine. It runs so, so fast.

I purchased this Intel 320 series 80GB SSD because of my long held faith in Intel and the 5 year warranty. Sadly it looks like there's something wrong with these drives (circa june/july 2011). I installed the drive in my Dell E4300 laptop in late June 2011. Install is smooth - good tools in the kit allow you to connect the drive via USB to clone your hard drive. Once installed it was a beautiful thing. Files open quickly, MS office (powerpoint, word, excel and outlook) open and handle files much more quickly.Then after 7 days the PC froze, and BiOS reported no boot sector. BiOS sees it as a 0GB drive. OK, stuff happens. I returned the unit to Amazon (it was within 30 days) for a replacement. Amazon was excellent, shipping an immediate replacement with 1 day shipping while I was still holding the defective unit.I received the replacement on July 11, 2011. The install again was easy, and the performance is great. Today (Aug 4, 2011) the drive died. My Window 7 system froze and then blue-screened. Just like the first time BiOS reports a 0GB drive and can't find a boot sector. Incidentally, as recommended the Win7 defrag had been disabled.This time i'm returning it for a refund. Since I purchased this drive there are 4 other 1-star user comments reporting similar behavior.

Installed this product with the enclosure I used with my previous clone with no problems.This product is fast! I can feel it during loading and play. Right now I'm running both DDO and Star Wars with it and loads are really quick. Updates go very fast.Building a second machine and thus far OS & Office installation has been amazingly quick! (having problems getting iTunes squared away though).A great upgrade over a Velociraptor (10k rpm hard drive)! Also very happy with the five year warranty. Hopefully I'll never have to exercise it but it's good to know that Intel is willing to back it to that extent.

Went with the cherryville due to the Sandforce controller. Arrived perfectly, installed perfectly, latest firmware already installed. I use it for windows only. I have not optimized it at all. But still takes only 12 seconds for windows to load after the bios access screen disappears. WOW

There are plenty of reviews about this drive's speed and reliability. I'll cover what they missed:-the screwdriver is a PH1. You'll need a PH00 to install this in a unibody MacBook Pro.-the silicone case is flimsy -- really flimsy.-the USB adapter is USB 3.0. You can safely use it in a USB 2.0 port, although you'll be limited to USB 2.0 speeds then.-the 3.5" adapter comes with plenty of screws to both mount the drive, and then mount the adapter.-the sata cable is roughly 19.5" long-the power cable is roughly 6.5" long

I have both the Intel 510 and Intel 520 in my system and to be honest without doing benchmarks I can't tell the difference between the two. Both are great drives and knowing how long Intel held off before releasing a SandForce 2 controller based SSD is very reassuring and the 5 year warranty helps even more.

Purchased this on the advice from a friend. Made a huge difference in the speed in which my computer does about every task. Starts up faster, loads programs and games faster, all that jazz.Only downside was transferring everything to it was a hassle, but that was largely my own fault. For those interested, make sure you slim down your old HDD before attempting to transfer.That aside, couldn't be happer with it.

Amazingly fast drive. Came from the 64GB Kingston SSD V100+ and this is ALOT faster. I have this in my Dell XPS 15. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for something quieter, lower power consumption and fast. I used Acronis True Image 2011 to clone my 750GB and restore that onto the SSD. Took about 20-25 minutes to do.

The new Intel 520 18 GB SSD is amazingly fast. However, I have gotten a few blue screens. Also at times I get a freeze with a spinning wheel. The freeze usually last around 60 seconds which is very annoying. Has anyone else had trouble with their 520?

This ssd Is Great, I highly recommend it, if possible always go with Intel!!!! What I didn't know when I ordered it is it comes with lots of extras: 3.5" to 2.5" adapter for desktops" (this intel adapter is 15$ on newegg), a sata data wire(7$ value), a molex to sata power adapter, a silicone sleeve for the hdd, and a sata to usb bridge to use the hdd externally.It also includes a migration software for use with windows. Though for mac users it is recommended to use "carbon copy cloner" to install ssd as boot drive.The bottom line with intel ssd's compared to any one else's is the have the lowest failure rate of any available, though a little pricier, all the extras make it worth every penny, I also own a X-25 series which is also great.

Bought this product with high hopes and installed in my dual drive HP laptop I had just purchased. Installation went smoothly, functionality was working quite well, for all of 3 days.Now,Totally dead, SMART 301 error, will not boot will not see the drive, totally gone. I will be calling INTEL shortly and if they can not resolve the issue it is going back to the seller. VERY disappointed in this product if I could give it 0 stars for burning all my data and wasting my time I would

320 -- it is not 320gb it is 300gb, of that about 270 usable.It also says "Intel Sata 3.0 GB-s 2.5 in"Ok once again deceiving. That is the data transfer rate. However many typical readers would assume SATA followed by 3.0 = SATA 3.0 an upgrade from Sata 2.0 compatability. This drive is Sata 2.0 not 3.0The name really needs changed to avoid confusion.------Aside from the obvious annoyance of the product having a very deceptive name, it works great. However when Copying all files from my old 160gb drive to the new 300gb drive, it somehow lost my windows CD key. I had to re-enter it. Also, my files copied over where defaulted to Read only, not read write. So I was forced to go through a long annoying process to fix that.----Is it worth the money? No. My 160gb previous version was faster on benchmarking than the intel 320 series. Not by much, but enough for me to ask myself why didn't I wait another 6 months? I wouldn't buy this product now, I recommend anyone wait if you already have a SSD, and if you don't start with the previous Intel ones they just as good and will hold you over till prices come down.

I wanted to improve my Windows 7 (64 bit) Experience Index "Primary Hard Disk" score of 5.9 so I purchased the Intel 320 SSD (120GB).I used the (included) free Intel migration software to copy the contents of my existing Raptor hard drive to the new Intel 320 SSD. Copying could not be easier, the copy was flawless.As far as performance, the "Disk data transfer rate" score of 5.9 with the 10,000 RPM Raptor is now 7.1 with the Intel 320 SSD. The speed improvement is noticeable.I must admit, Solid State Drives are expensive but if you seek performance, the improvement offered by a Solid State Drive is worth the investment.

I got the power cycle bug that could leave your SSD 320 in a mostly unusable 8MB state. After speaking to Intel they directed me to some NON Intel sites to secure erase your drive, which did not work.This happend after I Updated the Firmware that is what surprised me. Intel says that the update would avoid the problem . not My case) only option is to do a return . which I am working on . Lucky it has a 5 year warranty . But I would advise anyone not to pick this model .

I did many hours of research and this kept at the top of my list in every case. I trust Intel and liked the conversion and maintain tools and hardware conversion kit they included. It was VERY easy to install the drive into my computer and VERY easy to copy over my existing hard drive to this drive with the tools from Intel. If I would have known it was going to be this easy I would have purchased this much sooner then I did. I have had this for 3 months now with zero problems. I read that some have had issues with the 8MB issue but I did not and there is now a patch for the issue which I just patched as Intel recommended too. I highly recommend this SSD!

Drive worked well for about 6 weeks. Last Saturday I turned on my laptop to find a no boot drive error. Bios reported 0 GB drive. I bought an Intel because I thought they were supposed to be reliable. Amazon was great about shipping me a replacement. We'll see how long the replacement lasts.Here's an update. February 2012.I've had the replacement drive for six months now. No problems with the replacement.Here's a second update. April 2012Second drive failed. Lasted about 8 months. Replaced with a Samsung I picked up at the local electronics shop. Do not buy this Intel drive.

My drive worked great for 2-3 days... very fast and I was in heaven with it in my laptop running Windows 7 home premium. While browsing the web, the computer just froze. I waited a few minutes for it, but it stayed frozen so I power cycled it. It booted up to Windows and let me start the browser, but it froze shortly after. I power cycled it again and it froze before Windows started to boot up. Now the drive is non-functional. Any PC I put it in freezes up while trying to read the drive. The laptop works with the old drive in it just fine.Intel's support is not that great. Currently waiting for a Live Chat tech. support engineer to become available....

Hi,I recently purchased this item, it's all fine a good, but you should update the firmware before use.It's easy and simple, Intel provides the tools, as they realized their 320 series has an error on the initial firmware that might turin your disk into an 8MB brick.Acknowledgment by Intel[..]Intel Toolbox & Firmware Fix[..]Anyways, if nothing of this works, you can always get one straight from Intel as long as you have the invoice and the warranty is still valid.

Just Google "Intel 320 series 8mb bug" and you'll see what I'm complaining about. Had the drive for a week and it happened. I even talked to Intel Tech support before I installed as to what I should do to avoid this bug. They said to "make sure the system is powered down properly and it shouldn't be a problem". Wrong! I have a laptop, with a battery, so it gets consistent power. I was installing some software and it suddenly crashed on me, causing the 8mb bug. BEWARE! Great 5 year warranty, and a quality drive, but Intel lost the reliability in my eyes. Returned for a refund.

I purchased this one night because I was bored and wanted to spend some money. So, I bought this one SSD. Wow! Installed it in just a few moments. Hooked everything up, moved over the C drive to the SSD, booted up and was done. Whole process took a little less than one hour.The speed of this thing is out of the world. I went from an average boot time of five+ minutes to less than one minute total. I consider boot time from power on to desktop icons and apps loaded. Shut down time takes less than 30 seconds. Before, it could take a couple moments.This is well worth the price and makes my system scream.Pros: Speed, Price, Design,CONS: None

Bought two 120GB SSD recently and the very first thing I did was to upgrade SSD firmware to 0362. So far both have been working well in my 2011 15" Macbook Pro and 2011 Mac Mini. Boot into Lion in under 15 seconds! Speed and reliability have been perfect so far. There is even a way to enable TRIM under Lion. Excellent product from Intel.

I purchased this item based on the reviews and it was the best decision for my computer.This drive has amazing speed when compared to traditional hard drives. My only complaint is the cost but as more people purchase this the price will come down.Installation was a breeze and loading the operating system was easy. My computer boots in about 30 seconds from power on to complete loading of the windows overhead.

Fast drive. Installed easily. Didn't last. 3 days shelf life and then it died. Intel are going to take more like a week + to get a replacement to me. Their phone support/RMA process is also horribly LAME. I hope the next one just works. It's plenty fast, just died spontaneously. Thank Apple for Time Machine :)

I installed a 120MB 320 Series as a replacement for a failed drive on an HP laptop.It was a great drive for 2 months, and made the laptop much faster.Then it bricked. No 8 MB, just utterly dead.

Waited 3 months to get the drive after placing the order. Amazons reps kept lying to me, nominating different delivery dates and kept breaking them. After I finally got the drive it lasted 1 month before it died. Bad blocks and eventually boot failure - lost a lot of important data. This drive also has official bug in the controller, acknowledged by Intel, where it converts 600GB to 8Mb.
